for adventure seekers nature lovers nomads and active retirees charge island is a great place for an extended visit or maybe even your next home [Music] the island is known for its relaxed atmosphere friendly people and inexpensive accommodations compared to other international surfing destinations budget backpackers staying in a hostel can get by for as little as 600 per month an expat with a year lease can get by for under 900 per month nomads living here month to month staying in the general luna area eating out every meal renting a motorbike for the whole time and doing a fair amount of island activities can expect to spend about twelve hundred to sixteen hundred us dollars per month or more stay tuned as we travel around the island and see what these budgets look like in general luna and cloud9 village [Music] general luna is the main destination for tourism and prices in this area will usually be the highest on the island tourism infrastructure runs from the town of general luna down tourism road to the cloud 9 surf break accommodations between tourism road and the ocean will be more expensive and geared for short time stays while places on the island side of the road and within the town of general luna will be more affordable although general luna is a small town on a remote island it still has many western comforts making it a unique destination within the philippines there's a good party scene in general luna especially during the high season months of september through december the big party is usually limited to one specific bar or venue for a given night of the week while other bars clubs or restaurants have their own unique vibe so you won't be lacking on places to socialize most are fairly chill and things wind down early the party scene is growing all the time but is mostly limited to the tourism road area [Music] for budget accommodations in and around general luna a hostel dorm or simple apartment will cost about 10 to 20 us dollars per night the same size room for a month may cost as low as 130 us dollars during low season and about 350 us dollars for a month during high season a nice airbnb will average about 45 us dollars per night and may cost 1 200 u.s dollars or more for a month in a nice place in the heart of general luna during the high season a decent studio or one bedroom bungalow may cost about 350 us dollars per month during the low season and 600 or more during the high season the real savings will come with a long-term rental a good house can be found for as little as 300 us dollars per month outside of the tourist zone however you may be responsible for internet and utilities i just talked to the owner of some beachfront bungalows and he said he would rent one for 30 000 philippine pesos per month long term he said the nightly rate during high season is 3 000 philippine pesos per night so you can see the possible savings of staying long-term if you wanted to sign a lease for the entire low season i bet he would agree to even go lower on the price i've used this strategy before at seasonal tourist destinations and stayed at some really nice places for a great price it's also good for the property owner because they have steady income during the low season and can maximize their high season income things to remember when looking for a long-term place to stay anything you can book online will cost more than what you can find in person however during high season many places will be booked up and it's harder to get a good monthly discount if you are staying for a year signing a lease during low season will be much less than signing a lease during high season sure-fit fitness gym costs 1 500 pesos for a month membership and a massage in general luna will cost about 500 pesos [Music] my friend anna has a place right in town called coco frio so we sell everything coconuts the main product is a coconut which we store in a box with ice blocks so when you drink it it's cold we have agua de coco so it's like coconut water based refresher so coconut water with ginger and calamansi coconut water with orange lemon honey and we also have iced teas and coffee anna sources everything of the islands in the philippines was you know a step forward from other places because last year january we started the ban on single-use plastic so we use bamboo straws and stainless steel straws and for our ice cream we use coconut balls and you can never go wrong with the coconut ice cream white beard coffee is right in town and you can get a breakfast like this for 160 pesos they have free local restaurants and even a fair amount of vegetarian options a meal at some of the restaurants may average around 500 pesos while some of the local carandarias and food stalls will offer a simple meal for less than 100 pesos kermit has great italian food and pizza with most meals costing between 5 and 10 us dollars surf and dine has a good burger and fries for a little over 4 us dollars you can get a meal at an inexpensive restaurant for two u.s dollars a full meal at a mid-range restaurant with a drink can be less than 10 us dollars domestic beers are about a dollar twenty and a cappuccino will be about a dollar [Applause] eighty [Music] chargeau is ahead of most municipalities when it comes to environmental thinking char gal recycling art studio is a non-profit project where you can bring your plastic in for recycling and then do some shopping in their pay by plastic shop [Music] they have a mission to help the kids in their community become nature kids by offering them fun eco-oriented activities on a weekly basis where the general luna road meets the ocean you'll find the boardwalk at the boulevard this area is popular with locals in the evening [Music] island
