[Music] oh [Music] hello everyone it's seth probably better notice aphrodite and it's time for another edition of against the odds in this week we're heading to historic to do some shrining they think i'ma go in the eye dynasty we now have three full cycles of shrine so what happens if you dump them all together in the same deck how crazy can it get let's talk about our deck jump into some games and find out all right so here is our historic shrine deck and shrines are super sweet they're kind of like enchantment slivers each shrine triggers every turn but it triggers based on how many shrines we have on the battlefield so every time we play a stride we're getting its ability and we're powering up our other shrine and this kind of means we don't even really care which rides we have on the battlefield if we just get a bunch of them in play their abilities which range from car draw to ramp to finishing with removal and mill to killing stuff are just going to take over the game really quickly so the one trying that really matters sanctum of all tutors out shrines and once we get six shrines on the battlefield becomes shrine of monacon double triggering all of our shrines otherwise we got the new shrines from kamigawa neon dynasty the creature shrines we got the middle shrines i guess the corset 2021 cycle the og kamigawa shrines and like i said before we kind of don't care which ones we get on the battle view like if we can just play a lot of them and saying to the ball eventually it's going to win us the game for support we have some enchantment stuff sethus draws cards gains lights finds the shrine sanctum weaver fixes our mana ramps into shrine sterling grove protects our shrines in tudor's outstrides wrath of god to stay alive against creature decks mana base it's a ridiculous pile to make the five color mana work sideboard uh some counter protection for control bunch removal for aggro some graveyard hate and that is five color tries for historic that's alright gets odds deck for this week so let's jump into some games and see how good trides are now that we got a third cycle in the mix thanks for watching everyone i hope you enjoy it and i'll keep this our back is full of shrine so while a little bit disappointing we only have one in hand like we have many that we can draw into like that's that's our entire deck it's just a pile of shrines all right opponent's playing life gain well wrath of gods probably going to be helpful against our opponents deck lunar veteran so we're going to have all of our colors of mana which is good if we find sanctum of all we can really start doing some shrining opponent going to scry to the bottom and hit us for one well there is sanctum of all yeah temple garden untapped sterling grove question is going to be do we run out go shintai of ancient war or do we wait because we're probably going to have to wrath and we don't really want to wrath it away found it green mana heliod he only adds pretty good no play sanctum weaver land on black past the turn about it at taps i mean there are ways our opponent just goes infinite hopefully that's not about to happen but it definitely could oh we need like a couple more turds found it tapland oh passes okay so if we play this on blue we can sanctum of all sanctum of all is the most important shrine doesn't stop us from getting combo killed here but it does start finding us whatever shrine we need and one of the nice things about the new shrines even though the new shrines being creatures can be a drawback triggering on the endstep is actually kinda sweet that means we can tutor them up on our upkeep and immediately get benefit from them about it it says okay probably going for removal which i think means hidden cruelty yeah let's get hidden cruelty start killing stuff play ancient war and land on white past the turn a little worried about our opponent looking at this heliod no attacks end of turn snipe ya and blow up your veteran oh okay oh oh i was worried about coco for infinite but that's that's fine our opponent making uh making it one over the castle hard and veil is the best thing we could hope for there okay so opponent gets to do heliod stuff that makes me feel a lot better about where we're at we're up to three shrines probably gotta get card draw next yeah gonna grow the door because we have oh we have a lot of mana we just need more cards to go with it wow okay shrine value too good too good our opponent cannot keep up well in that case what do we want against lifegate excellent binding seems fine we gotta keep helia off the battlefield uh we're going down to stone fangs what is our worst shrines i mean i guess we just play one of all of them trim that way and then go down uh probably probably our mail shrine right like or anything like that yeah the mill shrine's probably not going to do it in this matchup all right well that was fine although our opponent scooped a little earlier than we would have liked it would have been sweet if our opponent actually stuck around a bit well i mean i think we keep this this is a really good shrine against creature decks oh that's a lot of lands that's a whole heap of lands untappland trellis aura that's a problem that's going to get big and scry to find more action to the bottom abound it gets in for what wrath of god is good i'll play this on white sanctum weaver opponent gains a life gets to scry well we're basically hoping that this wrath will stabilize us enough to stay in the game failure all right you're gonna be a slow wrath scribes to the top it says for five sure that's fine um land on red sanctum all right well next turn if the sanctum weaver lives we can wrath and then we'll see sand above shattered heights is really good if we can reset the board if we raise up the board we use our extra lands to shoot down our opponent's creatures which is actually like super helpful especially if we get a couple more shrines going like once we get a few shrines this can just this can just take care of a creature deck almost by itself if we draw some cards this is a fragile turn though with this thali out to tax us but it gets it hits us the other thing we gotta worry about is our opponent can coco end of turn if we wrath and that's also real bad that might be where this is headed one two three four five wrath of god it's all we can do but if our opponent follows up with collected company probably still just dead so sweep the board land on blue and see if we got coco hopefully no all right there's a coco how good is it we can kill x1 but we only have one shrine so this is only dealing one damage at the moment which is not a ton about it soul warden skyclave well discard a land kill the soul warden it's us to four well we need a really good draw ranger captain of eos that's uh that's bad well i guess we need another wrath like i think we seriously just need to top deck another wrath already opponent gets a selfless okay we need to top deck i don't even know something that doesn't exist a wrath plus selfless save your bone it passes life gain honda doesn't do it oh so we can play this in chump lock yeah we're i think we're we're officially dead coco that's a that's a good card that was that was a pretty slow start for our deck i will say slower than we were hoping i mean we can bring in i guess circle of confinement although it's not great we need the wraths hey let's go down the tapping shrine i guess the tapping shrine it seems good but especially in five color shrines it's not that good because you don't have that much white man anyway i mean i guess if we draw world tree we would but otherwise like its impact is not very high all right well we'll try this we got manna we got card draw we got a wrath this seems reasonable trium go opponent planes lunar veteran now play the land in we're gonna play seth is first because i don't think our opponent can kill it on turn two the removal is most likely like skyclave which we saw so hopefully we play this and then draw a card and protect it yeah right there's sterling grove draw a card play the dapland this is where we want to be no attacks and now we get down try number one sterling grove could also get a sanctum of all at some point if we need to the protection is nice but oh sanctum of all's just so good in this deck about it there's this guy glaive can hit the stir uh sterling grove oh yeah about it passes and let's sanctum weaver draw a card this man is so wild uh land on we have one black but black isn't a color we need a lot of i mean i guess the question is are we casting circle of confinement this turn let's just land on red yeah let's do it i mean we get a card right out of it okay there's another shrine that's nice get rid of this guy glaive and i mean plus we got two rats in hand which is good well next turn we might have a kind of big turn we can double shrine donut planes and passes well shrine one saying to the fruitful harvest draw card that is a nice one how much does this make for well uh signal of calming waters draw a card tap land yeah no attacks this is a coco turd well let's see what our opponent hits there's the coco wow all right that warms my my shiny heart oh but someday i'm gonna make a compilation of coco whips all right all right so now we get to draw cards and make mana yes please we will draw cards discard a temple garden we will make i don't even know flak mana uh so now we get to play a try draw a car up our shrine cow actually let's just play a shrine draw card up our shrine count going to gain some life play a land play a shrine draw card pass the turd no attacks kill your voice to the blasted oh so good yes new shrines paying off go shot die [Laughter] sniping them and i think we're good i mean now we're going off one two three four five shrines two more in hand this is this is a personal best this is a personal best this is as far as we've gotten i mean there's what a total of 16 shrines we could have on the battlefield that's the that's the ultimate dream phone it doing some scrying doing some growing questions gonna be when does our opponent scoop that's the real question well we get snakes we get to shoot your face or spirits rather opponent gonna make a big trellisara i guess we're kind of comboing with our opponents back here so ivana gets a ton of scrying a huge trellisara maybe we should have focused on killing it this thing is going to get really big all right we draw a tap land well we get to draw cards make mana yes please discard a trio make black manna uh sing the stone fangs draw a card hannon of knights reach draw a card sterling grove draw a card world tree for perfect mana hot in a cleansing fire draw a card and well cyclotrium i'm afraid if we kill the trellis sarah our opponent's going to scoop you know we're just going to pass we're going to pass we're going to snipe the soul one two three four five six seven eight sniper soul discard discard discard all right that's fine that's fine i'm afraid if we just straight up kill this our opponent's gonna scoop and that's gonna minimize the number of shrines that we can get on the battlefield opponent is milling out a concern it might be well no i think we kill our opponent before we mill out hopefully i mean we're gonna find sanctum evol eventually so opponent grows a dork sack this get a sanctum of all oh it's gonna be a turn this is going to be a turn uh yeah we get some triggers opponent take how much damage how many shrines do we actually have at the moment opponent all right wrap your hand wildlife cleansing nova too uh well drain you i think we actually photoscoped it up oh they had cleansing over that could have blown us out well that was pretty good that was pretty good that was not the max how much what did we get do what did we get because this is the current record one two three four five six seven eight that's exactly half that is fifty percent of the shrines in existence on the battlefield it was which is pretty good and a win which is a nice little bonus uh we'll have to see we'll have to see if we can beat that but i mean that's that's kind of what shrines can do like if we get time to just stack some uh stuff up the value they generate is insurmountable and i gotta give a shout out to the new shrine the new shrines might be a little skeptical of them are they really good enough they're creatures uh gauche and i have hidden cruelty great like it was actually just sniping stuff down and it could have done even more if we want to be more aggressive we got in this weird position where we're like trying not to kill too much of our opponent's stuff because we actually wanted more time to play shrines but well we'll take it sweet sweet against the time we are shrining in historic this week the sam doesn't seem too bad uh we got two shrines now sterling grove for protection looks like we're up against oh looks like uh let's just hm let's do it this way oh yeah sterling grove looks like we're up against a five color niv dak this is going to be very interesting small drifter spicy i don't know is this five color elementals what is our opponent i don't know what our opponent's doing i appreciate a good mulder of thing though yeah this is gonna make the most mana in the long run so land play this on blue pass the turn cool the question is gonna be when do we have to sack our sterling grove pire of heroes okay ponens doing something very spicy i appreciate the spot oh my god that's the second tip of all red white blue okay okay okay saying to evolve that's what we wanted to see with the sterling grove out all right here comes the shrines here comes the shrines oh yeah so yes this is exactly what we were hoping for opponent risen reef all right value verse value who's gonna win it sanctum of all we will search our library for a shrine that can kill yeah i mean i guess we got to kill the risen reeve play fruitful harvest have this for red shattered heights play the land on black past the turn end of turn kill your risen reeve neutral is coming through past the turd okay next up is card draw i think next up is the card draw oh so opponent's got kahiro so they got to be all elementals or this doesn't this doesn't work so they're like five color pyre elementals interesting i've never seen five color elementals in historic so you didn't modern a lot even in legacy but i've never seen it in the store oh spicy all right all right all right so thunder can awaken or gets back to risen or even gets triggers although wow shred up the only thing i dislike about the new shrine deck the only thing is that it uh it sometimes wins so quickly that or like it puts the opponent so far behind that they end up scooping the entire match uh so quickly that we don't get to get as many trends on the battlefield as we like like that is that is the only only thing i dislike well all right bring in a couple of vanishing lights run it back flying dynam shrine em try them about it common stack is a cool idea seems i mean there are some good elementals in historic you know we're just going to mulligan this molly on the first hand because we had a lot of lands and no shrines now we got a lot of shrines and no lands all right not great maybe we should just kept the two wrath hand all right this will keep we'll put stone fangs to the bottom and knights reach to the bottom well if we get the hunt and the scene wins going we could have a chance i mean sterling grove is always good like the protection is always helpful tabloid for opponent now play the sunway get down sterling grove could use some uh some manas opponent who sees you in real monka oh okay well then a blue plastic turd our mana is coming back to punish us a bit here not being able to guess the red cards about it mount 10 and oh boy all right well at least there's not a risen reef on the battlefield well with how this is playing out i wish i just kept that raffan i'll play sethus that this is good if we ever start to cast enchantments maybe maybe about it plays a dublin it's kahira attacks with everything well we will kill a token we don't want to kill this scorcher because that'll let our opponent reanimate it potentially oh well that's not great yeah seth is number two draw a card a shrine we can't cast oh boy well no attacks the problem is this kahir is going to come down and pump everything so i think we're pretty dead now i mean we were on the mold of five and the maldive is not at all where we want to be and yeah i don't think there's a draw that gets us out of this like we can't draw a wrath into land yeah we draw land yeah i mean the problem there was a multivive really that was the issue i kind of regret just not keeping the double wrath hand the double wrapping actually would have been really good you never know what thunder can awaken or reanimating stuff like there's always a risk that you rather just get their stuff back anyway but with how that played out it would have been really good okay i mean okay we're gonna keep this the bit of bad news is we can't play sterling grove at the moment at least easily i guess we can sanctum weaver into sterling grove that's probably what we end up doing uh yeah so landon sanctum weaver opponent fable passage cracks it well that sounds seems like it could go off if we get going we got mana and car drop oh my goodness that's a good shrine yeah play sterling grove land on red goshen tie of life wisdom when in doubt mill him out i actually think we don't activate this for a while because we don't really want to fill our opponent's graveyard but how much mana do we have three four five well play sethus see if our opponent counters play a shrine draw a card the opponent vetoes sure we still draw a card we still get to play the trio no attacks oh man it's so greedy you know what we're going to do it i think this is probably incorrect but we're going to do it oh okay we milled an omni that's actually kind of good i mean we're in a pretty good spot because we can get down hondan of seeing winds and then we can start drawing lots of cards opponent passes uh how do we do this sterling grove number two sanctum weaver land on black i feel like our opponent can still have a counter i have no idea what could be in our opponent's stack i don't think there's any flesh we're just going to pass and we're not going to mill i think we're going to end up sacking a sterling grove here about it tapland yeah we're going to do it sag the sterling grove this does minimize our protection but we would really like to get down more shrines which is probably just sanctum of all take a sanctum of all untap place hank to befall opponent has another counter well that's fine we still have the hundred of seeing winds which we can play and then land on white hitch yeah and yeah we're still not gonna mill yet past the turn well we gotta keep one sterling grove around i think i don't think we can afford to sack the second one if we sack the second one then our opponent's removals on all right risen reef well here we go this is gonna be interesting opponent's gonna go off we're gonna go off hopefully we go off more thunder can thankfully nothing to get back yet but everyone gets to draw a card well we also get to start drawing cards about a passes we get to draw three this tool two lands and a sterling grove i'll play sterling grove draw a card play sanctum sanctum actually is kind of insane here um play the tap land yeah we'll just pass the turn not gonna mill you you already got your thunder can okay so now we can start discarding lands to shoot things down which is pretty big i mean we'll let our opponent go off like if they want to draw cards sure like i think we win that battle especially because we have we have this mill shot oh you know what sure draw your draw your cards and draw your cards that is fine we'll just eat straw cards and we'll see who wins [Laughter] so opponent gets to do some rhythm reeving our opponent drawing cards isn't necessarily a bad thing because them drawing cards means we get to mill them out more efficiently but seizu and realm walker well we probably got a second other sterling grove here i guess we can do some cycling block block oh it doesn't even do anything they're just hoping we kill the scorcher but we're not going to block block block block stuff dies cycle of land cycle of land sac sterling grove sanctum of all we will not be denied so draw some cards sanctum of all oh oh here they come black mana play a shrine oh they're still coming all right uh rad mana play a shrine when we go off we really go off white mana play a shrine what does this do x damage to target player planeswalker and mill all right sanctum weaver land on green haunted a life's what what a turd what a dared what a turd and now discard a land shoot down thunder kid this guard will land shoot down realm walker discard a land shoot down risen reef and now opponent well take one and then you may go they're double triggering they're double triggered we got to try the monocot we got to try the monocots six rides the sanctum of all double triggers actually we could have done a lot of damage can we could we have one well i guess we're gonna win either way oh that's what the shrines can do the thing i gotta say about this deck is i've been impressed with the new shrines i mean obviously we didn't want a meal because of uh because of the thundercan awakeners but the new shrines have actually felt pretty good we might actually punt it there we have one two three four five six seven eight yeah i i didn't think it through and i was focused on just drawing as many cards as possible but if we just played our shrines in past with the sanctum out in this double triggering we could have just 16 to our opponent face that's absurd like the upside of these shrines the downside is they're creatures so they died in more stuff the upside is they trigger at our end step which is huge because we can use them right away rather than waiting a turn so i'm impressed they've been better than i thought i thought we were gonna win if we won in spite of the news rides but we're kind of winning because of them or in this case i mean we just we just played so many shrines what could our opponent do and our opponent it's not even like they had a bad game they had double veto and they made a bunch of risen reef and drew a bunch of cards and all that stuff and didn't matter shrines too good yeah sweet sweet uh yes not time we are shrining it up in historic this week i mean we're not gonna pass up two card raw shrines and uh some ram to get to it we'll see it's lure is so all right um madness probably uh well triumville we'll see if it's fast enough uh aggro on the play can be a bit scary but i do like drawing cards [Music] thought c's that's gonna make your hand a lot worse i mean i assume if they take a shrine it means they just have removal for sanctum weaver but we'll see takes the the cheaper of the two shrines another epicure and hits us uh well play this on white yeah i would be i would be shocked if this sanctum weaver lives but i'm hoping it does come on opponent leave it alone blood dye thermistor he goes so that can kill it next turn oh we draw nothing tap triumph i passed the turn about it all right let's uh cycle a triume we really need something we can do into another triumph okay triume tribal all right there's the anvil but it hits us i assume we start sacking blood tokens we'll see yep so bonus sags pigs oh oh my god another land yes it's just gonna be just gonna be too slow i think we just didn't have any anything to do in the early game and our opponent was able to thoughtseize and then kill our ramp that's not great phonic gets and hits us the only time whenever we lose with this deck we feel like we lose because we're just like a turn too slow opponent sex pings okay synthesizer sex that draw some cards another anvil [Music] boner doesn't have red mana i mean i think it matters but all right gets the lures we're gonna cycle this trium into even more lands blue red black all right let's just i mean play the sanctum of all still not sure this is actually gonna matter or be fast enough to matter pings us untapps so we probably got to get this blue shrine honestly being this i mean i think we need to get a wrath maybe they also have this hive of the eye tyrant which is more damage deadly dispute draws some cards while i'm glad they're not high with the eye tyranny thought seas yeah we've drawn all lands takes the honda and blood type harvester all right so i think we gotta take this oh yeah i think we gotta hit a wrath have any shot so i think we gotta go graveyard calming waters draw a couple extra cards oh those are not helpful cards yeah now we're just oh well we drew a lot of lands [Laughter] oh so close all right so opponent artifact sack i guess what do we want against this deck i don't even know if rest in peace is good it doesn't really stop their synergies all their synergies are leave the battlefield synergies they do have luris so they must have some graveyard shenanigans but most of their stuff is just sacrificed so that means that rest in peace isn't too much compared to like cat oven the cat oven decks the resin piece is great but hmm well trim trim the wrath seem okay maybe we go on a raft and go like ixalan's binding vanishing lights something like that every time that we lose with this stack it's like off we had one more turd yeah i don't think we can keep that all right well gogo pathway tribal we will put a yeah put that to the bottom that's more of a finisher well land on green yeah abundant schwamp in passes well land on white sterling grove gail all right all right we're making progress a little bit mountain blood dive harvester oh all right we'll play sethus that's good play him out and zappis with sterling grove is nice that makes it a lot harder to kill and now that'll hopefully it is our land drops and get us out from this mall again and maybe find us some shrines we will not block acre well spring all right i mean that's good sacrifice potter the deck looks kind of neat maybe we'll have to try the sack deck kid historic sometime haunted ridge a bill of asses now shrine draw a card all right play the tap land pass the turn slowly we're slowly piecing it together we might as well hit our opponent because we're not blocking it so card raw shrine i think is what we want next we're saying to ball once we can get it down we probably cannot afford to sack the sterling grove oh combo sack faker wellspring that's a lot of card draw yeah pono stick looks kind of sweet haunted ridge hits us down to 50. epicure more deadly disputes all right so bonus just they're drawing many cards they're probably thinking for a thought sees although our hand is not as scary as our opponent thinks all right so opponent does all this work they find it thought c's they see that our hand is actually kind of meh all right takes a banishing light well sanctum weaver's not bad that's by saying didn't weave or draw a card i mean that is a sanctum evolve for next turd we're close hopefully they don't have another thousands synthesizer like if we get outside the ball i think we can win this it's a voltage surge well that doesn't do much with the sterling grove out but it goes to gaba attacks we will take it no blocks down to twelve please no thoughts he's tap lad no fossies we really want the sanctum oh it's hovering okay passes oh that's so good so if we type this for blue black red white green sanctum of all draw card gates of life i mean that is what we were looking for the sanctum of all gets all of our other strides they must have another sack effect i guess oh black tried how can we lose is the question you know what we're just gonna set up for next turn whatever run it out draw a card if we hit a land we're gonna discard it okay and then discard the land kill the blood tide harvester we got four shrines next turd we're at 12. so we're not that close to dead opponent deadly just opponents drawn a ridiculous number of cards so many disputes have been deadly i'll pass the turret next turn we're gonna go off though next turn should be sweet we got mana we got card draw we can get more card raw we got a shrine in hand and we have protection so our opponent can't blow this up next turn should be a fun one about it ooh oh opponent okay well that is a way around our protection that's actually annoying well there goes a chunk of our mana and a chunk of our card draw the opponent epic here pings us down to ten oh we do gotta make sure we don't die that is that is number one search the library i mean i think we just get calm waters to do some immediate card drawing yeah so draw some cards make some mana discard a triumph make does it even matter not really and make black hotter tonight's rage shrine number five boundless vigor shrine number six an opponent has had enough i mean the deck actually kind of oddly works when you hear shrines you don't think competitive but yeah the deck actually kind of wins some games it's such a it's such a unique archetype i love i love tribes rides are just like so different like what would the what would the best comparison be kind of like enchantment slivers that might be the the best comparison how they all power each other up but they're just such a unique archetype and we're finally getting enough of them that they might kind of be good like with five it was pretty sketch with ten it got better because of sanctum of all but now that we got 15 plus sanctum of all and a bunch other sweet enchantment support it actually seems kind of good i don't even keep this one lander unfortunately oh you know what i think we keep this one lander though uh we're not going to five against the thoughtseize deck and this actually has a lot of our good two drops and cardra probably this five drop to the bottom or maybe this well that we can actually cast all right well that wing cast potentially if we hit another land or two don't it don't thaw zeus boss uses this fair enough fair enough takes our protection well play this on white well that's big for opponent because it means their removal is going to be live kind of onto that sterling grove untap land and epicure yeah abandonment passes well play the land play sanctum weaver so i assume this one is dying for sure so we're gonna play the one we have an extra copy yeah bono's got of fatal push but our point is down to two cards that is not that is not a ton of cards i mean they do have lures for the long game but still it hits us down to 18. oh my god another well one card opponent's down to one card takes our set this well play the sethus or play the sanctum weaver land on red i mean if sanctum ever lives things are good if it dies we're really praying for a land wow okay well opponent just had the best discard hand imaginable well let's i guess start gaining some life wow on the mulligan two thought season go blank is tough that is real tough but it gets and hits us gonna need some card draw gonna need some guard rug it's a loris well we gain a bit of life come on deck well sapphis kinda counts if we draw more enchantments that's dirt about it yeah no attacks thankfully there's nothing for lures to cast at the moment if they ever find like blood type harvester it gets bad about it wow stacking the blood discarding well okay crocs is all so bad jeez wow that's five discards and then the castle lock queen off the top oh all right luris gets to start recasting crocs well maybe we should have brought in graveyard a well all right doc if you ever wanted to give us a good time wow and like wow wow wow about it it was attacking just kidding if you ever want to give us a good draw deck this would be the time this would be the time banishing light that's a reasonable draw that's reasonable vanishing light question is gonna be what do we hit i mean probably just lures all right get rid of the lures go to combat no attacks the question is what do we do with this triumph uh you know what we're gonna play it they could get back if they can get a card in the graveyard they get back roxa so i think it's i think it's worth playing because of that well if we overcome this amount of discard that would be impressive opponent casa lockwave down to 12. well come on come on trides come on any enchantments really that's all we want amount of asses we need some life okay we will accept sterling grove for sure wrath of god oh that's that's fodder they have fatal push for said this hits us for a billion yep we lose a shrine uh-huh i mean that's a lot of damage that is a lot of damage and another anvil so i think we gotta get the blue card draw oh no is that exiled it is oh hmm that is an issue huh now i don't know what we're getting search our library so i mean this can kill something long term we want to draw cards can we afford to just get card draw for next turn we're taking 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15. that's tough yeah i mean i think we have to all right so we gain six we draw a shrine which is actually pretty nice play the shrine pass the turn no attacks well we're gonna pay grow boundless figure up to a five five all right what do you find opponent i still can't believe we're in this game this might not be the most explosive shine performance but it might be the most impressive because our opponent had so much disruption like an amount of disruption that we have no business beating yeah we'll take it block block i mean we're gaining enough light feature in that we're starting to get to the point where we're not super scared of of our opponent damaging us like next turn we gain what two four six eight assuming nothing dies so we go to 11. and we also get to refill our hand which is huge just to land i think we might have done it i think we might have stabilized and picked up the least likely win of all time uh yes sanctum of all library this time we're going for uh the new black try go to dive in cruelty get a removal going up to 21 draws some horrible horrible magic cards uh play sanctum weaver wow we drew a lot of lads not super helpful play a sanctum weaver one two three four one shrine short green mana cycle pony gives us the ggs cycle all right that's a whiff well play this on blue pass the turn one two three four five well we'll just throw the other the other one all right that's fine here we go opponent's gonna draw a card i think we did it through the so much discard so much discard gonna zach gonna sure sure but our shrines are now outpacing maybe having these being creatures and upside like maybe i was thinking it was a drawback but i mean that's a seven seven shrine that can stop a croxa like maybe maybe it's an upside rather than a drawback i mean if our opponent doesn't scoop your next turn should be kind of absurd we have basically unlimited mana with triple sector weaver and we get to draw quite a few cards i mean i think we can just win next turn actually he has a lock wayne draws a card epic your pings us yeah i think if we get the new red shrine we just win no attacks come on let us let us do it we'll go quick uh all right there's all of our triggers library red shrine yoshin tai of angie wars gain some life draw some cards uh one more shrine play the land pass the turd and now we just we just shoot our opponent down we don't need to attack end of turn double triggers red shrines yes please oh gosh and thai going off uh yes seven you yes seven you whoo the new shrines are good they're actually way better than i thought they're actually working ah they have won me over they won me over they actually are really impressive that was another game where we kind of went toe to toe with a really good draw we mulliganed our opponent stripped our hand they had double thoughtsies go blank they had loris they were able to kill our our sapphises and our sanctum weavers and we still got there impressive very impressive sweet sweet against odds time we are shrining it up seeing how many shrines we can get on the battlefield at once in historic this week we got 16 trides now and every single one is in our deck so we're gonna see we're gonna see how many can we get in play at one time uh that's our goal shrine value and this game is fine we really would like the sanctum weaver to live but uh we got shrines and if we can start getting them on the battlefield they do things boom damage boom one ones no tabling go if the sanctum lever dies it'll be sad because we really are probably going to need the mana abundant golden familiar well land on black and sanctum weaver you please live please live please live please live please live please live if xander weaver dies then we're stuck waiting for uh more mana to come and bless us with its presence trail of crumbs all right so sanctum weaver lives for now we would still like to draw land sanctum of all well pleasure i'd pass the turn so one damage in upkeep untapped mayhem devil that's not great for us so it hits us well i mean ping the cat that might be unwise all right we draw a tap lad oh play cleansing fire so get some life gain going the real payoff is getting down a sanctum of all if we can get down this egg to evolve then we can do it all literally that'll find us whenever we need i mean so now we got we're gaining four a turn and dealing two damage a turn which isn't bad we're still in pretty sketchy shape if our sanctum weaver dies just mana wise hi another mayhem devil please tell me you don't have a way to sack something untap land yo the goose okay we're live for now if we drop it on tap land we get down saying to my ball which would be sweet so we will snipe the gilded goose on tap land a depth land a dab land okay oh so we're at 16. i mean we got to do it black white blue the question is what color do we put this on black red blue white green so we got all the colors uh i mean there's still a chance that we just dye this turd but plain land sanctum of all that is a big one oh could we have hmm i think we if we manually tapped we probably could have played this thing too whoa strider are we dead three six seven eight nine ten eleven all right opponent's gonna shoot down our sanctum weaver well if we don't die this turn i think we have some chance we're gaining six sacks down to eight down to seven out of six down to five down to four down to three down to two down to one down to zero so we're dead well we'll make our opponent do it because maybe they don't see it but i believe they have like x-axis here wow that was okay opponent passes that changes things wow i wonder if this forces our opponent to to kill us yeah our opponent might accidentally yeah i don't know why our opponent passed maybe they don't see it ping ping drain get the cat all right so opponent i think just was yeah all right pony just rubbing it in i guess passing and giving us a glimpse of hope before they combo killed well rest in peace in circle of confinement in go down to wrath of gods go down what are our worst shrines that was so close like that was ridiculously close to to the dream well all right do a little trim and run it back that's one of the that's one of the brutal things about playing shrines is ah you can see it stacking up you can see this insurmountable value like approaching and getting so close but then in that case our opponent just had like 20 damage randomly sitting on the battlefield so it all it all went for naught if we had that turn we would have gained sex we would have shot down a man devil we would have tutored up another shrine but they could have shot down the other mayhem devil like i think we would have stabilized and then we're just gaining like 10 life a turn it becomes essentially impossible to lose but we did not get the one the one extra turn we needed to actually make it happen about it fabled passage passes well we will play a land on green play sethus go opponent cracks it'd be nice if that uh sethus lived could use some more lands use some more shrines opponent gets a forest and black manas trail of crumbs all right so sapphire's gonna live which is sweet well sanctum weaver play a tapland hedge over one okay opponent untapps oh can we get down sanctum of all we can't can't get it down this turn all right which is oven sure sure fable passage i'll make black mana yeah let's play honda and start attacking our opponent's hand draw a card play a tap land and pestered alright so now our opponent's discarding each turn next turn we can get down sanctum of all hopefully that does mean the sanctum weaver needs to live sophonic can do cat oven stuff well i mean we're not in that bad of a spot but i didn't think we were in that bed of a spot last time and then we just got absolutely brutalized out of nowhere so and we'll say found it gets back to calmer familiar down to 20. there's the mayhem devil i mean we got an answer for it see what our opponent views is most threatening sethus or sanctum weaver all right opponent sax the cat all right gonna go up to the sanctum weaver which is kind of annoying because that means we don't have any black mana so we're a bit away from sanctum of all again yeah opponent gonna kill the sanctum weaver i mean the good news is we do get to circle of confinement get rid of the mayhem devil we're gonna start making our opponent discard cards and we do have many more shrines that we can draw well opponent's got to discard i guess black man is probably what we want most got a discard not black mana well circle of confinement draw a card also not black mana get rid of the mayhem devil play the forest i guess and pass the turn there's a drawback to being a five color deck that's for sure about it untap land broco corvald yeah that's that's an issue not super good at dealing with big things that kill us immediately you gotta discard come on deck please triumphant doesn't do anything well yep legend rule ourselves to draw a card sanctum weaver to draw a card triumph and yeah yes corville just goes off though the funny thing is we really needed we needed more shrides because our mana got so so pinched we've only been able to get down one try and opponent just they just win um we only are able to get down one shrine so we weren't really able to empty our opponent's hand with the honden uh because we just haven't got enough shrine value we needed to be able to get down like the other black shrine or especially the sink oh my god all right sure we needed to be able to get out more strides tldr if you're going to play shrines you got to get out a lot of shrines we didn't manage to do that this game against the time we are shrining it up in historic and green white red i don't know this is actually kind of fine i mean we gotta set this we can draw cards and we got something to put balls so we'll try it we will see uh yeah i mean we could get torn up by thoughtseize or removal but when we have good mana in a in a section of evolve it's hard to complain too much drc well that's frightening yeah this i imagine has got to be a tough matchup for a deck gotta be a tricky one opponent going to consider gonna leave it draws a card land and smacks us down tonight dude second sanctum of stone fangs well all right so let's go the problem is our opponent's not gonna know we're shrines so they're definitely gonna try to kill our sethis i mean i guess you kill it even if he knew her shrines but if our opponent can see our hand they're probably going to be a lot less worried about zethus then than uh they already know about it kills ourselves surveils untap land hits us uh so we play this on black and uh sanctum stone thanks gotta get that life gain i think uh i think we win now no chance our opponent beats this boy so many can drips so many cans tripped and there is a arc light and the dragon rage channeler is turned on uh oh well we get to gain one no arclight's good boom down to 15. yeah i mean i kind of think we just wrath or attempt to apparently they couldn't get back to arclight last turn so island october gonis okay i mean maybe we got a shot we do get to i mean we play this on blue sanctum all well we'll see we'll see here comes the shrines abounded so they got a knock so they might be able to get back their food they're definitely gonna get back their phoenix hopefully it's just one multiple phoenix's would be real bad yeah odds of getting back phoenix really high since everyone found faithless looting are we gonna just be fast enough are we just gonna be too slow oh my god that's another phoenix that's a bad sign storm wink entity well maybe they can't get it back if they're storm winging they need two one mana spells one to the top oh my god whoa is this just like everything coming up wow so our opponent did have to run well but uh but they got there and now we take a ton of damage oh that's unfortunate so close well search our library i mean i guess we just gotta get some immediate card draw like it's rather rather bust i think yeah i think that's our only shot so calm waters life game that's too slow so we get to draw three we gotta hit another wrath we have to discard discard the trio i don't think this is enough so we go to eight i mean play this we can play this one two three four five so it's only one mana all right we got a plan we're not gonna mail you into more more arc lights wow the bad one is the bad one gonna come through payload suiting for our opponent triggers we can tap down enough stuff to stay alive and then who knows who knows what happens next wow if we win because a sanctum of tranquility the least powerful shrine that has ever been printed about it discards a couple cards two cards in hand finale of promise pillar of flame in unholy heat that exactly does it for our opponent i think that's that's exactly it right well we'll let him cast it but i think wow wow i mean so our opponent's deck does draw a lot of cards uh they have a ton of can trips so them finding their stuff i guess is not a not a surprise that was a little a little brutal just a tiny bit brutal that our opponent managed to hit oh that's every every time we lose a game with this deck it feels like we're a second away from winning that's another one where if our opponent did not scrape together exactly the right amount of man exactly the right cards to be able to win the game they're just there's no way they're gonna catch back up after we get one more turn and i think that's the story of i think that's the story of shrines like even when it doesn't work it's so incredibly close and usually it does work like it works way more often than it doesn't work and when it doesn't work it's just oh the most the most painful most brutal where opponent just has to have like exactly exactly the right cards at the right time and i mean that is that was phoenix on the play too with them having another like really good draw we got to cut one more of something yeah let's go down red creature shrine damage to a a player planeswalker doesn't seem that relevant well hopefully we just slam a rest in peace and our opponent cries themselves to sleep for a few days i mean we're gonna keep this although i mean i guess we can sterling grove out of rest in peace if we really want to donate doing some mulliganing i want revenge i want revenge after that last loss all right triumph babe is looting arclight and faithless looting discarded well land on white sterling grove we might honestly just be sacking this to rest in peace you know what we're gonna we're gonna let it go for now you know all right wrath of god go to our main face place at this green we're gonna hold on to the triumph there's actually a chance we want to cycle the triumph well we'll see what our opponent does expressive iteration grows the sprite dragon looking for lands i assume we might oh we might say the sterling grove again the problem is sethus is super fragile and we have a lot of lands we can't really afford to have it die opponent steam vents plays it tapped all right we're we're gonna do it i think sure opponent gonna get it and hit us i mean i think turning off the graveyard is enough value that's worth it sag the sterling grove get the rest in peace we would love to be getting one of our shrines but we just we gotta do this first get the rest in peace play the rest in peace draw a card get rid of the graveyard land and why play the shrine draw a car gain some life that's not bad so worst case if our opponent builds a board we can wrath otherwise we can just keep trying to all right there's an arc light well now maybe we wrath we don't have red mana anyway so we can't cast the shrine i'm going to combat attack yeah yeah rather god timbergarden tapped that's the shirt come on nothing else nothing else no moss storming entity all right well that is something else so that just cycles through itself so absurdly well remember when they used to let it have remember when they used to let it also have a brainstorm those are interesting interesting days about it losing the the saphis did hurt it was worth it but it did hurt about it discard some cards looking at our shrines world tree with white shrines not bad we still need more shrines that we only have two so it's still so much mana four mana to activate all right going to brazen borrower to bounce a shrine and up all right so opponent's just trying to get in as much damage as possible with this storming an entity by the legs oh my goodness and they end it with a dragon rage channeler well we dropped to eight we draw a rest in piece that does nothing play the sanctum play the land oh past the turd this is not a great place to be in we got two shrines that aren't really doing much we can tap down the storm wing but this is still a very very sketchy sketchy sketchy spot to be in but it heads us down to seven we draw a land we will pass the tur opponents also a deck that has burned so eventually they're gonna burn us out found it runs out brazen borrower well we will the scar to land kill the dragon rage channeler opponent untaps considers leaves it on top that's probably bad news expressive iteration draws two cards another consider gas to consider well i mean our opponent has certainly cast a lot of spells tap down the storm wing gonna need a card draw shrine and we're gonna need it pretty fast if we don't have the card draws tried in the near future [Music] i mean i think we are just going to lose rest in peace is great but we don't really need two of them i mean the only good news is our opponent should have a lot of a lot of dead cards hopefully since their graveyard's locked but we'll see past the turn arc light phoenix we can tap this tap the storming entity we can kill the phoenix to the top all right opponent likes them all untap land dragon rage channeler well we will kill the arclight phoenix i mean our shrines are keeping us around somewhat i feel like if we play sanctum of all we lose yeah we gotta pass we gotta tap it down it's just too easy for opponent to chain spells and just kill us with the storm wing oh boy this deck draws some cards we have killed so many things and it doesn't matter oh it's so sad to it's so sad to have the sanctum evolve and not be able to cast it about it going to surveil i mean maybe our opponent will mill themselves out draws two discards to well i will say the white shrine is it's done some work today oh we got to tip this it says for one ah we're down to six eventually we're going to be low enough that our opponent can burn us out which is a concern all right play a shrine pass the turn so we can tap the storm wing wow we are just barely barely barely holding on crackling drake okay i wish this could hit i wish this could hit the crackling drake we're one shrine short wow this has been a weird a weird controlling game but it's kinda working pillar of flame yep burns us down to four i mean this is one of the things we were concerned about that our opponent would eventually do they just mill a burn spell oh unholy heat all right we were concerned that they would eventually get us low enough that they'd just be able to burn us out and it's looking like that might be happening i'll tap the storm wing opponent hits us to three ah on tap we really need stormwind to die it's so risky i mean we gotta go for it go after the storm wing if they have an instant they can pump it fading hope okay surveils bounces the storm wing we draw tap land well sanctum of all i mean this is this is it either our opponent kills us this turn or i think we stabilize the problem is we're so low a pillar of flame kills us about it goes to combat tap down the crackling white shrine white shrine it did it i can't believe that worked that's the worst one that's the worst one okay well maybe we can't call the worst one anymore because that white shrine that white shrine saved us i can't believe we won that game i honestly honestly really truly cannot believe we won that game well now we got to do it with our opponent being on the play oh very scared very very scared i guess the big takeaway from this is the shrines that are considered to be some of the least powerful including the new ones actually have been really powerful we get to play first well that's rest in peace that's a resting piece and we got the white shrine so i mean i guess we just win gg white shrine op no chance uh i'll play the triumph pass the turn opponents faithless looting and we got the wrath too we don't have the second white mana yet but we got world trees so we'll get there eventually we're definitely shocking ours we're definitely shocking ourselves this turd unless we just run on tap white swords we're definitely shocking found it discards an arc light and a consider plays a blue source plays a consider meals a land grows a dragon rage yeah that's a turn two three three oh then it hits us well rest in peace turn off the dragon rage another dragon rage it's us play the world tree play the sanctum weaver ship litter with double dragon rage our opponent is going to do a lot of surveilling so they're going to be able to find what they want that much is for sure let's press iteration getting down this hondon for life game would be sweet if we can like hand in sanctum next turn and start gaining four a turn that undoes a lot of a lot of burn spells that does require a sanctum weaver living opponent yeah drawn some cards finds a land please the land hits us i mean we're going to block one of them down to 13. well there's the blue shrine well meg white mana condom of cleansing fire opponent negates does some surveilling i'll play the hondin land on red well we'll see all right well this is gonna force us to wrath i think tonight it says all right play this on i guess it doesn't matter play this on blue so i think what we can do is we can play hondon of we can play haunted of seeing wins one two three four yeah all right honda is seeing wins i mean i guess we could just tap crackling drake yeah let's just let's do that i guess there's no reason we have to wrath here as long as we can tap down crackles and now we get to start drawing some cards which hopefully finds us more shrines is this just like the the new best deck in historic is this like legitly good how does this keep working do we did we break it did we break it why why is it working about it all right glade phoenix well uh we're gonna tap crackling drake this almost certainly is gonna make us wrath but donut hits us down to six well make white mana wrath of god play the tap lad place at this play sterling grove and pass the turn okay expressive iteration seven's not bad seven's high enough and if you're on the other if you're under opponent side you know oh no they're gonna drop two more cards next turn oh no this is starting to snowball out of control oh no that's a sterling grove oh no why is my top tier is it phoenix best tank in the format losing to five color kamiki is the money on destiny shrines why why why starving eddie yeah yeah boy this white shrine has been the secret hero this is a secret hero the match like just being able to tap stuff down is so good about it going to pass well we're gonna draw some extra cards two of them they're not very good that one is also not very good but we get to play a sanctum weaver and draw a card there's a shrine one two three yeah go go shintai draw a car gain some life all right so play the land so i think we just gotta pass this dirt i think this turn we're tapping down storm wing and then next turn we can start growing our shrines plus we got the black one so next time we probably just blow up storm wing all right pass the turd tap the storm wing back up to nine and the snowball's coming up to three shrines oh if we had that life game trying to be over sprite dragon all right that's that's good for our opponent that's another threat consider sure i mean opponent's gonna fight they're gonna fight and clone give it their best shot opt tap down the storm wing an opponent [Laughter] it just keeps working it just keeps working i don't know why i don't know how but we're pretty much through platinum with five color shrines i guess the deck's just good i guess it's just good maybe it's not against odds after all it's got to be against it's one of every shrine essentially it's gotta be a good size but it's it's it's successful go go shrines sweet sweet sweet so what did we learn this week about five color shrines in historical the deck was great we went four and one almost got through all of platinum on magic arena so ranking up pretty consistently we lost once to a catavin deck which oh that's gonna happen our opponent had a big corvalled we couldn't stop the big corvall that's what kind of corvall does when it goes off but really the deck felt shockingly impressive like oddly shrines might be a legitimate archetype that you can actually win games with the new shrines sadly we missed the white one somehow deck building put on my hand but the new creature shrines i was skeptical of them coming into our games i was worried that as creatures they were just gonna die but it turns out they're actually kind of great like having shrines that are creatures give us blockers we can grow them with the green creature shrine and then their abilities are really strong we got to see like gushing thai of ancient wars killing our opponent out of nowhere like being able to trigger on our end step rather than our upkeep or our first main phase is really really big because we can play them and get their ability right away which is super powerful so i think the deck is actually pretty good the support cards are good if you're gonna try to build this as competitively as possible it might be worth trimming some of the shrines and focusing more on like the strongest shrines rather than trying to play like one of each shrine although really even the shrines that i thought of are bad ended up being really good in some situations like i would consider sanctum of tranquil light the white shrine from corset 2021 to be the worst shrine uh just paying mana to tap a creature i consider that to be the worst of the whole blood of them like out of all the shrines ever printed but they ended up winning us games like being able to tap down the big stuff against the arclight phoenix deck being able to stop like crackling drake repeatedly and other prowess threats it actually straight up won us the game so even the shrines that look bad are good in the right situation and part of the power of the deck is thanks to sanctum of all we're able to find the shrines when they're good and once we get like a card raw shrine going we just find everything we need and things snowball out of control really really quickly so i kind of love this deck and the deck actually felt surprisingly good and i think it might actually be as weird as it sounds too good for an against the odd stack like maybe this is actually like a somewhat competitive deck that you can play in the historic format is weird as it sounds to think that i might actually be true so shrines really sweet surprisingly good and apparently actually somewhat competitive as well so that is five colors rides shrines are sweet the new ones are sweet
