so the question is when you're first starting out in the development game no matter what type of development you're going to do web development front end back end whatever should you take the low paying job when you're first starting out short answer is yeah of course i did that myself so we're going to go back way back 200 years ago back in the early 1990s where i sold out of my first business and then i'm sort of sitting there going hmm what am i going to do now what am i going to do and i decided to start taking on freelance jobs as a web developer designer and i got my first job working for a little company i forgot the type of company was doesn't matter anyway got my first little job and it was like really like low rent type of stuff not very good compensation but i thought to myself being somebody from business day this is new i'm new at this i'm actually getting paid at this point in time i am getting paid to learn development coding web design web development whatever type of development you do you really learn as you build real projects there's much more to development than just writing the code by the way and this stuff cannot be stimulated with things like cold uh cold competitions and uh crap like that just get get a job it's amazing to me how much effort people put into to avoid actually reaching out and trying to get that job they put so much effort they'll go to all kinds of different they'll start taking all kinds of tutorials they'll go to cold competitions all this nonsense just get the job you learn on the job i like to uh i like to equate it to uh combat i used to do a lot of combat sports and i used to tell people when i would train them one sparring session is worth months and months and months and months of training outside of the ring one sparring session you know five minute 10 minute 15 minute sparring session whether whatever it happens to be is worth months and months and months and months of training it is very important as a developer that you get in there and start working on real world projects now you're not going to build facebook at first you're going to start with something simple install somebody's wordpress build a static website simple things but as you learn to build projects meet deadlines communicate et cetera et cetera et cetera write clean code write functional code when you start learning how coding is in for real then you're going to start understanding how to learn what to learn and so on it's typical and it's normal in a software developer's career to want to spend that you're going to spend rather the first three to four years really learning a lot so on day one the first job you're going to get typically it's not going to be a super high paying job there are exceptions there are different strategies or things you can do to level up quickly but i'll have to leave that to another video so back to the core point of this video should you take as your first job as a professional coder should you take a low paying job at first well yes because you're getting paid to learn so i'm steph some people call me uncle steph i'm the 169 year old developer and if you think being mentored by a 169 year old developer is valuable check out my mentoring program before below if you're interested in solo learn courses that make learning to code easy and fun with a gamified system that gives you instant help along the way tracks your progress teach goes deep into coding deeper than any other program out there i challenge anybody trust me hundreds of lessons well over a thousand quiz questions and code challenges nobody covers so much material in such a short period of time to get you up to speed as a developer so check it out i got my mentoring program if you want the full program with accountability and support in the community down below these are comparable to the five and the ten and the twenty thousand dollar boot camps but for a lot less expensive and i also have my solo learning courses as well which are extremely valuable to people all right enough of the shameless self-promotion i gotta go eat
