I know Chevelle isn't really a prog band by any stretch, but this song is about the closest to it.
Off their newest album, 2016's The North Corridor, their eighth record.
I'm buying my concert tickets tomorrow. So excited to see them again.
I feel like Chevelle kind of does the opposite of what you see in progmetal. In progmetal, I feel like bands will take a guitar riff and use for only a section of a song before the song moves onto something else. Chevelle seems to take a guitar riff and frame the entire song about that riff.
Also, Chevelle's vocals do tend to be syncopated or on their own rhythm relative to the instrumentals just like a lot of bands do in progmetal.
Again, though it's been said, wouldn't consider Chevelle a prog metal or alt metal band. Maybe like a heavy alternative rock. I actually really like Chevelle though, definitely a solid band.
What even is alt metal? I've heard like the Deftones, Mudvayne, Disturbed, SOAD and like Marilyn Manson called it before. It seems like a term to justify liking a nu metal/hard rock band... I mean I like all of these groups to an extent but I really don't get the classification... And I used to be like a tech death genre elitist so I do kinda get riled up about correct genre labeling. Just because for reference finding similar bands. IDGAF what genre it is, but I'd like to know an accurate description.
I think Chevelle's one of the best alt-metal bands out there, and I really enjoyed this album, but this isn't your audience for this. If I were you, I'd remove it just because there will be people that are going to instantly hate anything attached to that subgenre.
