big man is a man of the people shaq shops just like the rest of us except he has to make time for the fans which can turn a quick trip into a full day check can i get a picture yep bro you do the selfie bro hey make sure you don't cut off the top of his head with the framing boss all right we got four rooms upstairs five six total six rooms so what three per room four per room i ain't doing all that you think shaq's got time to do math just drop that in the cart and keep it moving [Applause] [Music] he's still getting [Music] do you more a bike sorry what do you have a bike no i don't well ask your mommy can i buy your bike make it quick listen to your uncle snoop kids don't take things from strangers unless that stranger happens to be shaquille o'neal follow me whenever i go to a store from now on i'm buying somebody else something period [Music] all right grab your bike make it quick every day i leave the house i got to bless somebody i can't i can't keep all this oh my goose i had the monkeys when i was little damn sure you don't want no mongoose cause all right get it hey listen to me don't take nothing else from those strangers all right let's roll i love going in the stores looking at moms with their kids because it takes me back that was me i wake up every day i try to do something positive i try to lift a person's spirits if i stick to those principles i think i'm doing pretty good as a man in the society you're awesome all right thank you [Music] oh you thought shaq was just going to give out some bikes and call it a day nah he's got some huge plans to give back to the community see dr shaquille has had a passion project he's been wanting to put into action since he was just a wee little shack i'm gonna give back to the community find a place for underprivileged kids and fix it up like it's my house because my mother told me a long time ago it ain't about you son that's about them it's time to make his dreams a reality shaq has picked a very special place to help out a group home for at-risk teens in his neighborhood oh i need a new basketball court big man's good friend zach is also neighborhood contractor and is taken a lead on the project for team shack along with the local sheriff's office a friend's house is an organization they actually take and disenfranchise you they have a lot of kids who are awarded to the states like parents went to jail whatever that situation is welcome to a friend's house we're the only long-term group home for youth in henry county and it's important for me that every youth that comes to a friend's house leaves with you know a positive experience this is what we call transitional suite [Music] now if you think about a home and a house this is what we consider our living room or our living area as you can see we have furniture that is over 20 years old that our youth are using and we need to replace that we have the rooms back here they're little pods that they sleep in we're wanting to put a door so they'll have privacy this one or you want the ones to open up yeah let's give them a donut these kids all the stuff that they go through they don't have anything they've never had anybody come help them out it's the right thing to do when you don't have a home and you come to some place that's supposed to be a home i want to make it look like a home but it's going to make them happy it's going to give them a sense of purpose it's going to make them feel good that's more important that right there is worth a billion dollars you
