would you make calm seven of nine actually the day before I read for the network Chris Berman and Brannon Braga and Jerry Taylor the three executive producers at the time sat down with me and they were they were wonderful and they sat down with me for like an hour and a half and just sort of answered all my questions and kind of laid on my fears and things like that and Rick Berman said you're getting on a moving freight train and you have no idea how fast it's going until you're on it and that was such an apt metaphor for this whole experience one two three ready good nice beautiful this is my pants my board hand this is residual from where my little laser online I was really hooked I really can tell you it's discus oh there used to be some plate over my head and this is what was left in the back it's very exciting to be part of Star Trek and part of history really I mean this is something that's gonna certainly outlive any of us just sort of a strange feeling I speak with a board it's it's a little bit overwhelming I mean two weeks after I'd gotten cast under what we had even started shooting it I had my own web page all of a sudden and I don't know how they find everything out they knew what I was wearing they knew my name and my resume they knew everything I mean it's really it's flattering now a human aren't you this body was a similar to 18 years ago ceased to be human at that time what's really funny is if you don't really watch Star Trek yourself you don't really know how huge the audience is for it people are coming out of the woodwork that I never knew watch Star Trek all of our friends all of our relatives my sister-in-law is a huge fan um so she was just beside herself when I got on Star Trek all the guys my dad works with her huge fans um it's fun a lot of my friends from college I'm hearing from out of the Blues I go my god I can't believe her on Star Trek so it's great it's really fun resistance is futile about the character itself they told me you know they told me sort of the history of the character what explained the Borg I didn't really know what they were and explained a little bit of where the character was going they did not however explain in detail what I was going to look like for the first two episodes system he sort of stops hold that one a little bit I'm a Borg for the first episode completely bored which means that I involved and I have metal plates on my head and I have a laser over one eye I'm gray and it's not real good luck in the second episode I look half Borg which is only slightly less terrific than full board comfort is a relative term here I'm Star Trek I learned that very early on um they told me that it was prosthetic makeup but of course you know they're downplaying it to the nth degree in the beginning I kind of had an inkling of what I was in for when I went in to get my body cast done half the costume made which is literally a blaster cast of higher quality it was quite process functionality and aesthetics in a pleasing enough matter body paint would be one way to describe it um it's rather snug it's sort of a feat of engineering it's a corset with sort of these like it's supposed to look like mechanical or board type ribbing sort of an exaggerated female form not exaggerated but certainly emphasized it doesn't hide a lot it's not very forgiving basically kissed food goodbye for the rest of my life I won't be eating very frequently anymore but um that's pretty cool no it looks very simple it looks like you know leotard or unitard and so everybody is shocked when I you know talked about how uncomfortable it is but it's because you can't with that type of costume you can't have typical undergarments because you would see strap lines from abroad and things like that I guess they don't wear bras in space don't know Bubba Vavoom I'll never forget the shot I saw her I was there I guess I was going into greeted she came through the smoke Gaga and this you know it looked like a Vegas silver suit and I knew our ratings were going to go up she was a great girl brilliantly written character and Jerry served that character and characterization very well no question about it or it wouldn't have been as successful as it was I think it's great to see sort of an Evert Lee sexy physical presence for this character as long as she continues to be written intelligently and they continue to give me good challenges as an actor I think it's great your link to the collective has been severed 7 was a human she was assimilated into the board when she was 6 years old so she has no memory whatsoever of humanity or emotions or of any event because she was basically raised by the board so in the first episode when she is forcibly separated from the collective um needless to say there's a little bit of animosity towards Janeway um because this is not something that 7 had ever wanted this is completely against her will she had no desire to be human she has no memories of humanity um so she's scared and she's angry and she's resentful now don't walk down life she comes to terms with the fact that she's gonna be human whether she likes it or not says she better to sort of get used to the idea and learn what she can about it I am finding it a difficult challenge to integrate into this group it is full of complex social structures that are unfamiliar to me compared with the Borg this crew is inefficient and contentious but it is capable of surprising acts of compassion this is such a show with history you know I mean this has been around for decades and I don't think anyone born in the last half of the 20th century doesn't know about Star Trek whether they watch it or not they're certainly aware of it so it is a lot of fun to be on the bridge and to see the transporter room where you know they beam people in and the first scene I remember where they gave me the little comrades little Star Trek badge with so ecstatic says my first little Star Trek things I had my little badge and now I've played with all the different toys I've had my phaser and I've had my tricorder and I've had my pads that's a lot of fun great toys unless you wish to change the nature of our affiliation there's an episode where um one of the crew members sort of starts flirting with seven and coming on to seven a little bit and gets in over his head doesn't really nobody's bargain before are you in love with me ensign well no then you wish to copulate no she's completely clueless about it I mean she understands the concepts but she has no idea what you know certain physical appearance what effect that would have on a male crew member or anything of that nature so she just knows sort of the black and white basic fundamentals of sexuality she doesn't really get it yet tell me something when you hear about people like the catotti no I think the wonderful thing about it is that we're taking a character that that is so bad I mean it's the worst of all possible bags and we're getting inside of this character and and learning how it or the Borg thinks and tics I mean I think that's something it's almost like getting into the mind of a serial killer it's learning how that happens and then how do you find a humanity there how do you how do you then find the goodness within the evil I mean these are wonderful themes and I think they're so pertinent and relevant today but in fact you are frightened by it I mean she has this knock out body and face but she kind of she kind of undercut with this dry level I mean maybe a very very smart almost arid intellectual approach which was very funny in sevens mind initially Janeway did the same thing at the Borg had done were before they she made that decision for her she separated from the collective against her will so twice in her life sevens free will was taken away from her so that was a hard thing to overcome for seven but she eventually and grudgingly came to really respect Captain Janeway and look on her has almost a mother figure and as I said it went through you know the mother daughter and rebellious teenager and daughter it's had all those dynamics of the mother-daughter relationship as well as just a mentor and I think it's become a friend your behavior demonstrates affection and sentiment traits of humanity once she came on board the show because now they got a they got established her back still they gotta give her a backstory they gonna give her you know they catch get her up to speed with the rest of us so I enjoyed it and from a character standpoint I think it was pretty cool that both of us tended to on the surface be speak in a similar fashion both it was tended to be rather rather rigid rather formal rather discipline because she comes from a mechanical society a drone society so there was a similarity in the way that we were to find a plight as characters simply because her perspective is so so much that of an outsider looking in in a way it's its childlike because she's experiencing all these things for the first time in another way she has all this wisdom from being a Borg and all this knowledge that she's wonderful assimilating all these other species so she has an interesting interesting perspective on humanity they've taken you apart there have been some wonderful episodes explore because everything is no to her everything has been a discovery there have been there have been a lot of really wonderful rich really fun things to do is this character
