SEMI AUTO POTATO CANNON for the Homemade Screw Tank

kali phos water tanks crew tank project but six quite quite quite I've got it I know you thinking Colin we want you to put the most epic potato launcher on your wonderful screw tank I think so way up Internet so I've been making a homemade screw tank there are lots of videos on the channel you should go and check them out the SUBSCRIBE way there it's what I do now this thing is awesome it crawls wait a minute you suggested you wanted either a flamethrower or a potato launcher you don't find flamethrowers on tanks but they do launch stuff but they don't just launch one thing no they launch multiple things so we're gonna make a potato launcher it's gonna have some sort of reloading system take a block Caputi that laddies the way for [Music] [Applause] back out the tracks of this one of right we're ready it doesn't work it's the most over-engineered potato launcher the Internet has ever seen so got a gas bottle got a regulator so we've got constant pressure comes Randy into a solenoid valve down through the pipe out over the fan Mixy Mixy Mixy and then a piezo unit push a button bang out goes potato right it's going to give it a test [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] she works [Music] [Applause] ah alrighty then she works we're not happy with it in its current guys it needs to be semi-automatic it needs to load itself it needs to have that little bit of a first touch okay so this is the plan I've got another ring with load of bolts welded onto it so we're gonna chop off this cone things unfortunately now this is our enemy because what I want to try and do is mount two linear actuators either side of the barrel barrel that's my Martin the barrel and we want to be able to deploy the barrel out a potato nugget drops in and then it pushed back in crush it into its own shape and therefore seal it in and then pish posh posh off it goes so it eats better good and hopefully it'll sound like that so then weld you on the end weld you up against the barrel make some little sliding mechanisms and what maybe make a little bushy thing for the the thing to slow I didn't a lot of things going on a lot of thing well I think I'll just do it and you look at it afterwards and go ho that's what he meant [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okey-dokey we have a deployable barrel I just connect the battery Oh check this out ah don't you sell prayer there any birds yes sir that's gonna move out potato pellets gonna drop down and then when it comes back it will kind of crush it a bit more and it will form a nice seal and it will squeeze itself in there nicely daddy's to plan but what we need need like a little potato hopper thing coming up here with all the potatoes into drop down and then off the go and get fired [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is a right contraption now and it but how is it essentially : how is it working well you call a bit out at the sugar beet you roll down that the hopper it'll hold six shots and it lands on this little plate thing it's little upturned I was gonna have a little semicircle but of course when the barrel gets pulled towards it it kind of cause it again and flakes these little bits off the side ear like that now of course if I add it in a little semicircle thing the flaked bits of the side wouldn't be in there and when the barrel goes back they'd just be sat in there the next one have come down it won't be in the right place so I've gone one upright bit so it can split it off and then it can all just fall out the way now these little lumps pliny bits on the side ear there so when this comes and gets called it splits that into at least two or four bits then whole lot can just driven out now is it gonna work multiple times I don't know is it gonna seal up against there I don't know Mike to make that bit a little bit stronger because it's bending slightly under the strain but at the moment it seems to be just about coping now the next big step in the old equation is how you're gonna control all this Colin you've got a lot going on here you've got linear actuators gas valves piezo solenoids timings all sorts of things can't believe I'm saying this [Music] [Applause] okay about the teacher so far to do this hence why the video is a week late so got an ID we know we've got five relays now the advantages of this is they're all programmed and timed so push of one button the actuators go out for a set amount of time the potato will drop it and then of course it will pull back for a set amount of time until it's loaded up and then the gas valve opens exactly for the amount of time we want now that is the crucial bit we could have done the in-app bit at the barrel with a toggle switch but the gas by being able to time down to the millisecond how long that valve can be open we can always make sure that we get the perfect amount of gas in so let's see let's go and see if all this works because there's a lot to test here where we are in the conifers underground firing range no idea why I didn't consider doing it down here before right got a map just down the end there to stop the mass have a go free my mattress oh there's me willing to not make any mess ah thought I was the sugar babe it's the ice appear the mattress is called its own mattress thing out okay gas amount perfect about to change the actuators for some more stronger ones because they weren't quite coring the sugar beet properly and also the shape they don't just drop down like that they kind of drop down to the side and then they just call it a bit out like that so I'm thinking we'll actually try it with something round like an apple and we'll give a potato a shock cuz I think now I've seen this they might actually work all right [Music] [Music] all right come on you're gonna drop down [Music] [Music] look I don't drop it out the barn nicely so cord itself excellent yes there we are loads three loads itself clears itself out Prime's itself smack bang off it goes brilliant now right I just need to get some slightly faster and linear actuators somewhere in the middle Gazeta slow the other ones weren't powerful enough boom let's get it married on the tank I think some of the stuff Furze builds is pretty neat (although very rarely of any practical use), but IMO he (or his character on video rather) personifies the "professional YouTuber" so much that I find it nearly unwatchable.

My heart skips a beat every time I see Colin's name in a post title. I always assume it's going to be "dies after wacky invention goes horribly wrong" or "kills neighbor when wacky invention goes through home"

Except that he can't "open a gas valve exactly for a fixed amount of time [...] up to a millisecond" using a relay. Those blue ones bounce for a random period between 20 to 60ms

I think he already knew how to use Arduino because of earlier projects.
