where are we going we're going to the beach and which beach are we going to um [Applause] chalmers is meant to be good for sea glass so we're gonna have a look and see what treasures we can find on the beach in the jurassic coast and we're gonna take you with us so stay tuned here's a map showing the route we took to get to charmouth beach car park charmouth dates back to the iron age when a celtic tribe founded a settlement evidence of hill thoughts can still be seen in the area the name charmouth originated from an anglo-saxon word meaning stony river [Music] the river char showing some of the native wildlife and a view of the beach car park [Music] we've been here for about a minute and i've already found these pieces of sea glass mainly green there's a nice frosted piece there too so let's have a look i've set myself down because there's things i can see lots of bits glistening in the light so we'll have a good old rummage through this patch and see what we can find i think it's going to be a good day for sea glass fights [Music] oh dropped him oh oh well we've lost that one but there's plenty more so tiny there we go there's one it's another piece of green see how this works [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] here's our little beachcomber helper it's been a really really helpful dog looking for these little pieces of glass on the beach so pete has just come back with his little haul from well he's been gone five minutes and he's found this is definitely a piece of cornish wear because the blue line is ridged so there we have it a definite piece of cornish wear as well as some nice chunky pieces of sea glass probably about 10 minutes in my little bag is looking quite good i'm going to move my towel across a little bit i can i mean i can just see glass everywhere it's just literally everywhere you look um i'm not showing you finding me every single piece because i think it'd be rather boring but um i'll move on to my new spot and we'll see what it's like there here's a nice big piece of white sea glass and there is a handful of some other interesting finds just found a nice piece of clear it's well smokey but it's got a pattern on it it's got ridges so we'll have a closer look at that in the roundup here comes a nice bit of pottery i've moved a little closer to the seashore and actually i'm finding bigger pieces of glass and um actually getting some brown as well so i've literally just sat down and picked up these just literally just in this one space i'm sat in can you see sea glass i can see sea glass shout out if you see it right i'm gonna pick up some of this and i'll come back to you now i don't know if you can see this i think i found an old piece of pottery it's black on both sides and then orange in the middle [Music] oh excited just found a piece of blue it's only teeny but it's definitely blue i was just going to reach for this piece of clear glass oops and then i noticed a teeny bit blue and white china bargain and look what pete's just spotted no not a dog a lovely piece of blue not your normal bright dark cobalt blue either nice that's a rather interesting piece of trip we're just um hiding behind dottie look at his face it looks sort of like an animal perhaps a horse crossed with a crocodile or a snake leave it up your own imagination but i think it looks like an animal we've been here on charmouth beach a couple of hours now and my hall is looking good as you can see there's even a little bit of blue in there looking forward to having a sit down later on back in the caravan and having a look through all our finds [Music] [Music] this looks like the scene of a recent cliff wall along the jurassic coast this is typically where the fossils come from we see a bunch of people out here with hammers and uh people digging in the slot over here pete took the dogs for a walk along the beach as the dogs were getting a little bit bored they're heading back now so i think i'm gonna pack up from this spot and we'll take a walk back towards the car and if we find anything exciting along the way then we'll bring you back otherwise we'll see you in the roundup so on the way back to the car there's the exit of the beach there we've stopped off exactly where we started and actually this has the highest yield of glass um they may be smaller pieces but it's just absolutely everywhere there there's a piece there there's a piece there's two pieces here [Music] so just absolutely everywhere [Music] now some of you probably wouldn't bother with these smaller pieces but my glass collection is absolutely diddy and i would like to collect little bottles full of the different colored pieces of glass so green bottles blue bottles clear and cloudy bottles brand bottles before i start crafting or doing anything else with my bits of sea glass so i'm literally kind of grabbing everything i see oh a piece of blue oh man where's that piece of blue gone there's a blue gun gotta find a piece of blue and i know you know all shouting at the screen guard is there is to your left is to your right it's in front of you we can't see it it was so diddy oh i didn't know what to do i don't know whether to carefully pick or just oh well let's just give it a oh well some of you is some you lose i think that blue piece is a goner but there's so much more we might come across it again right so i'm gonna finish off having a few pickings around here and then i don't think we're gonna do a roundup today because we've enjoyed it so much today i think we might head off to another beach tomorrow so i'll do one big round up after we've finished tomorrow so for now see you tomorrow from another location somewhere along the jurassic coast take care it's difficult to judge but this piece of rock was more than 12 inches long that's 30 centimeter for your metric folk that sea was way too cold for this we've just driven through weymouth and we're on our way to the car park at cheselle beach we counted seven cruise ships at anchor in the bay we're really happy that this car park took contactless payment here we are at chisel beach [Music] unfortunately not many beach coming findings were on this piece of beach but the scenery is spectacular please enjoy it [Music] join us for a minute or two or we fly the drone around this beautiful bit of coastline the roundup will be coming shortly [Music] [Music] [Music] now we're back in the comfort of the caravan let's have a look at the spoils of the day lots of green and white going on here i can just see a little bit of blue poking out there at the corner [Music] do [Music] as you can see we've collected various shades of glass we've got some brown here lots of dark green there's the piece of brown just on the right edge there which has some ridges in it some lovely aqua glass most of it's sick glass got the frosted look these two orange pieces i don't know what orange glass would have come from if anyone has any ideas let me know and also these brown pieces of glass they're definitely glass because we shine light through them again we don't know what they are i think these two pieces of glass are milk glass they're opaque and some paler green glass lovely to see all the different shades lots of white glass again it some of it's sick so it's frosted and a lovely collection of pottery here now we have a piece of cornish wear and a piece of turquoise almost this is some pretty blue floral and i don't know what this is but it's kind of turquoise with a brown pattern on it if anybody's seen it before let me know this was a lime pale lime green intermittent pattern and i think this is a really old piece of pottery um glazed both sides and inclusions this is a piece of flint which we think has been worked almost into the shape of an arrowhead being on the jurassic coast of course we had to find some fossils [Music] and i also picked up a few pretty pebbles and shells that i like the look of as well this piece of glass really stood out to us as very bright see what happens next are you videoing so what's that i think that's either uranium or radium glass we'll have to look it up i think it's radium fluorescent under uv cool well there we go then we hope you enjoyed joining us on our trips to charmath and chezzo and we'll see you next time
