hey Scott Howard thanks for being with me man appreciate it good morning good to see you long time no see yeah I think what was the ink you see probably that's probably right and that's funny I mean it's that times rolling around again I was just doing emails this morning to get everything settled in book to be bucket in QC this year so that's right around the corner so my goodness I can't believe it's been a year so tell the folks that are watching that don't know I mean they're like you read in QC and you're going back again this year what what are you doing at Inc you see you're not with legacy 5 anymore but you have a good reason to be there right yeah well when when when I left the road went to work for a company called danly sound labs we're a we're a loudspeaker manufacturer in danly actually is who had supplied speakers and amps for a little xe5 for the last I don't know maybe eight or eight or 10 years or so it's been a while so it was just a it was a natural fit when when I came up the road I had gotten to kind of learn the product through years of using it and had learned the guys at the company just a great company to work for great guys Christian based company had just got to be real close with those guys so when I came off the road that was one of the some of the first people that I talked to and anyway just all worked out that I could go to work for them so now my my job is kind of spreading the spreading the brand of danly brand we're a great product but just not a lot of people out there knows who we are what we do and so that's kind of been that's been my task is just to kind of introduce us to folks and let people get in front of speakers in here so that that's the reason I'll be it in DC again this year I'll have a little bluesy set up there and we'll have some product try to do maybe do some demos we may even have I talked to Clark earlier about maybe setting up setting up sound for some of the smaller stages or some of the satellite stuff not really sure exactly what we'll do but we'll be there and it was great last year to be there just to see a lot of folks that I mean honestly I didn't know if I'd even get to see again people from around the country that used to get see on a regular basis as we were traveling it was good to be able to touch base with them and say hi and kind of let them know where I was and what I was doing so yeah I'm looking forward to going back it's uh it's a different it's it's a different feel there anymore kind of you feel like you're kind of on the other side of the fence in a way but it's great to get to hang out with you guys and all my buds in the business so yeah I'm looking forward to it and that's you know that's something that you know folks seeing you walking around there last year you had just been four months or so after you left the group they were like do we see Scott Howard here what what is is he is he singing with y'all again like carrot like I tell people I said I'm just I just can't like carrying a spare tire I'll just be hanging around there in case okay so I breaks a leg I can that's it Phyllis fine so is that is that the thing that you think you know you will you mentioned seeing people that you didn't think you'd get to see again you think that's the biggest thing you miss about being on the road and singing your concerts yeah you know I tell people all the time I miss I miss everybody because and I think people realize it that there's folks out there that a lot of people say to fans but I mean honestly it's almost like family because you you know you've seen them every year for 20 years ever how long honestly there's a lot of people out there that would come see us thing that I saw more often than I do see a lot of my family members so it's like it's like extended family around the country that you just don't get to see anymore so yeah I do miss that and I've got a handful of folks that that I kind of keep up with you know they'll shoot me a text or email or call me every once a while from wherever around country you know this kind of took this place I just got off up the phone a minute ago with a guy up in Virginia that we kind of struck up a friendship just from singing at his church up there so he was he had some fishing pictures he was he was showing me a while ago so yeah I do miss that part so again that's a that's a great thing about going to going over to Pigeon Forge to ink you see because a lot of those folks are there yeah and while you were with the group you were you know the baritone singer but you also could sing some bass I mean you have a nice low rich tone to your voice is if you ever came back out on the road to sing if that were to ever happen you think you would come as the bass singer capacity or go back to the baritone oh my goodness I don't know I had never really thought about that you know when I first started singing the little group back home I sang the bass part that was but it was you know just like so many groups I did it because there wasn't anybody else there to do it you know that we really wasn't my bag but I do enjoy doing that's a lot of fun I mean you well know the bass parts fun part man the baritone is the is the odd part it's kind of the is the fill in notes in between everybody else so it's it sounds awful by itself so yeah it's it probably would be more fun to sing bass so yeah that may be so that may be something to consider well I'm sure at this point you know it's only been about a year that you've been gone so yeah I would think that you you're probably not eating to get back out there but I just wanted to ask that if you ever did get that itch to kind of go back out if you felt like you'd fall into the bass line because I remember time after time walking in for sound check at the venue and you'd beat up there you're doing some kind of checking the lows the mids and the highs on your microphone to get a good EQ but you always had that good bottom in on your range so I was like I wonder if he would come back as a bass singer if you I probably have to because that's probably the only notes that are left in my right is the buffets and that's when I was another thing I was gonna ask you as you know as a singer for I mean I don't know how many years you've been singing 40 years or what I mean I know you started well before legacy 5 singing but now that you've not been singing you know on a regular basis every weekend or most weekends throughout the year multiple times a week in concert you feel like your voice has changed absolutely or you've dropped some range or or how do you feel that that has changed your voice musically yeah I don't know range wise but it's definitely you know the muscles are the muscles are not up to where they should be it's so here's a funny little story Sunday I think it was Sunday might be after church Sunday anyway we had some friends of ours invited our people in our Sunday school class over to their house just to kind of hang out they've got a pool and for the kids to come swim so we were the over there hanging out well the husband is a really really good singer well he had his little karaoke machine set up inside and of course all the kids were just loving it man they were going in there and singing all the you know songs that I didn't even know what they were so Brooks kept all he's like come on his sing come in you can sing harmony with me and man I got in there and started singing stones that I knew but oh my gosh it was like everything I said why is everything so high he's like this really in the high oh yeah it is to me so yeah I found out pretty quick there man the old pipes had gotten a little bit rusty so yeah I feel like so back to what you were asking I think my range is probably probably about the same but it's just I'm just out of shape because I haven't been singing like a like I should and I would notice that even when even on the road you know if you're off a couple of weeks you know it doesn't take long for that stuff to get out of shape and you get lazy vocally I guess and that's that's one thing that I know that many the artists that have are still traveling in singing that have we've been off for three months or so now yeah that's one thing that we've all gonna have to start working again vocally because as we start doing hopefully as we start to and concerts again and hopefully things will pick up and we'll be getting back out on the road on a regular basis in the near future you know we're gonna have to start exercising those vocal cords again yeah you've not been using them like you had before so that's unreal and the streaming stuff I mean that's that's pretty to be up just a great outlet for for folks not only just kind of keep the keep the vocal cords moving but it's it's let the the people be able to experience the music and enjoy it so that's what all that's been a huge thing I see more and more people are doing a lot of streaming streaming stuff I see where the Isaac's are even doing a thing where they're recording in the studio and have the have the camera set up in there so you can actually go online and watch their recording process wow yeah that is cool yeah there's so many things you can do with with Internet and Technology really it just boils down to time money and energy that's it to do those things they had the money to get everything you need to present a quality presentation do you have the time to do it and can you get everybody together and do you have the energy to exert into that and some of it is creativity too and I'm not the most creative person on trying to come up with stuff like that but there are some people out there that are what is a message that you want to give to the folks that are watching that you haven't seen since you left the group or whatever I mean do you would just want you want to say something to them about your thankfulness for the 20 great years and or anything like that you know man it was it was a great time up I'm just I'm thankful for the time that I got to be there you know I mean going way back Rodger and I had been buddies for four years before the group ever started and that was something he and I had always talked about you know man wouldn't be awesome building have a group sitting together sometimes I mean we we talked about it and dreamed about it and honestly I really never expected that to happen because you know Roger was with the cathedrals and and I just didn't see him moving from that or leaving that and really you know wasn't looking that far down the road to after those guys retired so anyway it was a huge blessing just to get the opportunity to do it and have seven years ere saying seven years while Roger was still around so so we got to kind of fulfill that that bucket list but again man just all the people that that I've met down through the years you know it's so mean again it's so many that are just it's not just fans it's and I would say it's not just friends in a lot of cases it's just it's closer than friendship it's it's almost like family so those those people supported me and you and us all of us for years and years and years just so thankful for that and grateful for that and and still you know like I was saying there's still people that that keep in touch with me that want to know what you know what I'm doing how's the family doing the kids growing so it's just it was a great run and I think most people know that it there was no there was no issues with me leaving I just felt like I'd gotten to a two at the end of a chapter in my life felt like I was supposed to be doing something else really wasn't sure exactly what it was at the time but danly sound labs opened that door to me and honestly I feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be there and doing what God wants me to do so it's it's it's a great it's been a great run for me I love the time I was there and it's been a great transition over into the world that I'm living in now have not told Scott back when when I was getting ready to leave I said you know I honestly believe that God is moving me to a place that he wants me to be and I just feel like that he's not gonna do that and not bless the group and move the group in a direction that he wants them to move so I think it's been I think it's been a good thing for for both of us for the group and for for me you know I just I just feel like God has has worked this thing out and it's uh it's moved in the direction that he wanted it to move and we never we don't never know why not the why the timing of things works like it like it does but I'm thankful that it's all worked out good and you guys are doing great so I'm I'm proud for you well and I agree with you I think things have have gone very well the transition couldn't have been any smoother in my opinion right and I knew you know just hearing you talk for four years you've had a relationship with the guys that Dan Lee and I just when you said you were going there I'm like it's gonna be a good fit you get along good with the guys there and you know that stuff in and out so if you all watching need any type of help sound gear for your church installation or whatever you need to contact Scott Howard and get with the Dan Lee sound gear or there's a shameless plug right there and and you mentioned the family and I did want to ask you this before we close out this part of the interview you mentioned the family you actually had a lot happen oh yeah family in the last year or two and so give the folks an update oh no on the family what all's been going on okay I'll start our oldest is Maori Maori got married this past year she's in Austin Texas and we're actually expecting our first grandbaby in August so so that's all coming up so that's a that's an exciting exciting thing for us where Kelly was busy getting plane tickets and all reserved for us to go down there when the baby's born here I mean just a few weeks honestly so that's Mallory grant is our is our next oldest he's 21 now grant joined the airforce he's he's in the process of he's going into the special outside of the of the Air Force so there's a there's a training period actually before he even goes into basic training so he's in the middle of that right now they've got a group of guys that that work out and train every week in preparation for that so he's getting ready to ship out probably in August to start a start of Air Force career Jenna that was our baby or first along is in college now she's uh she's here she's here to home with us she worked for works at Kroger so she's been one of those essential workers it's she's worked through this whole thing which it's it's been really good for her I mean Kroger has been they have taken care of her I mean literally a playing for most of her college they've done they've just done a great job taking care of her so she's she's in college right now and then jaylen our youngest that we adopted this past year is 7 he's going into second grade so again we were in here this morning just Kelly it just sent me a link of what the what the school system is saying schools gonna look like in the fall possibly which it's gonna be different that's still all very fluid so so we're kind of exploring some options there we may we may do something different than public school just not really sure yet but I mean everything is everything's great we're healthy and living in our little cocoon here for the time being ready for things to kind of open back up so we can get out and act normal again well man I appreciate you sharing a little bit about what's been happening the last year and about your family and and even just you know saying thank you to the folks and and talking to them I appreciated your time
