Awkshully according to the news cast they are going 54.6M km and the pilot says they are going 1.25c which means it should only take 2 minutes 25 seconds. They reported just over 3 minutes, that would be the speed of light not faster than.
Edit: counterpoint they needed to accelerate, they do demonstrate that vehicle has anti-gravity (photo is laying on the console unsecured until the malfunction) so it is possible they developed a drive that is able to accelerate at a rate far higher than normally tolerable. Without anti-gravity it would take over a year to safely accelerate to 1.25c, at the speed they did in the video, he'd be little more than a red paste on the back of the ship without anti-gravity. I originally assumed the drive was instantaneous because when he was drifting and dematerialised the photo was left floating but I see now his anti-gravity failed with the rest of the ship.
Never cheapen out on actors when making a film, even if you blew your budget on visuals FX.
I've seen this before but it doesn't seem like a re-upload... ?
