and announce the news now? Huh? Haley's pregnant Everybody... We don't know how it happened I can't do this... Can anyone hear me? Do you read me? - Over Coming to you live,
from the Public News Studio in New York city A very good evening to you! Tonight, the Anomaly One mission is in it's
third day since the launch of the Earth orbiter. The Anomaly program represents the next crucial step in executing president Kennedy's challenge of placing a man on the moon
by the end of the decade. Commander Oliver Grier approaches
the half way stage to what has become the longest continual space flight to date, already eclipsing
the achievement of Soviet cosmonauts, just a few short weeks ago. Because Anomaly's telescopes are in orbit
outside the distortion of Earth's atmosphere, these far reaching optics enable us
to see things that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. These unknown, undiscovered quantities
suddenly become visible, with unprecedented clarity. Staying with news from outer space, we have with us in the studio this evening a Dr. Gabriel Montrose, the lead astrophysicist
at the Deep Space Tracking Facility in Fort Irwin, California. Earlier today, the professor announced
an upcoming astronomical event, the arrival of what is being called...
the "Bayt Lahm" comet. Welcome, Dr. Montrose. Now, as i understand it,
you have discovered some kind of new comet? And this particular comet
is heading for Earth? Yes, that's correct And when did you and your team
make this discovery? Well, we've known about the Bayt Lahm
comet for over a decade, but we didn't actually see it coming
until about three or four days ago. It's one of the most quickly approaching comets
we've ever seen. Now, do correct me if I'm wrong, professor, but, we have seen comets in the past,
all throughout history in fact. Do we have any calls for concern here?
For alarm? In terms of proximity,
how close are we talking? Well, most foreign objects,
when they enter Earth's atmosphere they usually break up, they sort of "burn off". But with the Bayt Lahm comet,
because of it's current speed and trajectory, we think that this comet will enter Earth's atmosphere somewhere between the next 48 to 72 hours, and then it will exit again,
moments later. Entering and exiting the Earth's atmosphere? That's correct, yeah. Uhm, well Doctor forgive me, but... If this is such a significant event,
why are we only hearing about it just now? Well, in many ways,
I'm just a messenger. We know about the Bayt Lahm comet
because of it's discoverer, Dr. Noel Fitz. And Dr. Fitz actually theorized its approach
probably about a decade ago. And actually, when he came out with his theory, he was completely dismissed
by the astronomy community. Completely dismissed... Well... Dr. Montrose, has any sort of similar event of this
magnitude ever occurred before, in history? Never... Never, no And I don't think that it ever will again This is completely unprecedented You know, which is why we don't...
we don't have an hypothesis for such an event Who will be able to witness this event? Everyone... For one moment it will be completely light Everything... Anomaly One, we're bringing in... [distorted] Do you read? - Over Do... not... be... afraid. Mary... Mary... I made your favorite dinner... Food's still on the table Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know how late it was,
sometimes I just lose track of time Up all night again? Mary... It's happening... This is the most beautiful thing
that we will ever see You've reached the office of Dr. Noel Fitz He's currently unavailable, but please leave your name and number and he'll get back to you as soon as possible 911, what's your emergency? Is there anyone there to assist you? It's me... I'm on our frequency I miss you... I miss you so much I think we got lost Maybe... We've always been lost We've become... Strangers... To ourselves... To each other Most of our lives are spent... searching... We're blinded by the dark... And then we find... we're broken These separated hearts lose their rhythm... To beat together... To beat... as one If you can hear me I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm sorry, Haley Ready to proceed with this? What, what are you gonna do? Dr. Fitz? Yes... Yeah, I've been trying to reach you... Sir, your prediction, Bayt Lahm... It's imminent This station has interrupted
it's regular programming to bring you an
emergency action notification at the request of the United States government. An unprecedented astronomical event is upon us. You are advised to stay indoors. Come on boy, we gotta go now, its time Come on! [moans in pain] Nurse! She's in labour,
she needs to go to maternity immediately! Maternity?
We're sending her up! ...Help me... Let's go! Get that door! Come on! Do not leave your residence, even in the event of injury
to you or your loved ones. Cover any windows and doorways
accessible by visible light. Seek out a good shelter on the ground
where possible. Do not leave this shelter
unless otherwise notified. Mr. Grier, can you hear me? - Over She’s fully dilated... Anomaly One Push with your contractions... Mission Control,
this is Anomaly One Mission Control? Mission Control, I can't hear you Push! Anomaly One Mission Control? Disengage auto navigation Breathe, breathe, breathe... Anomaly One Here we go Anomaly One Commander Grier, do you copy? Anomaly One, Anomaly One... Commander Grier... Can you hear me? - Over Come on, we're almost there... We're almost there... Come on! Push, push, push! Doctor, heart rate's dropping Breathe and push... Breathe... Heart rate's dropping One... People, come on... Two... Three... We're infinite Made for one another I'm here... Made for love We're undone by our own humanity By moments of nearness But we break with distance When we are alone It gets so dark, we almost
wish it was never light And then... In one moment... One precious moment... A light shines in the darkness [Baby cries]
"Anomaly" by Dan Difelice & Salomon Ligthelm
Set against the space-race canvas of the 1960's, Anomaly is inspired by the traditional Christmas Nativity and explores, through a modern-day lens, the events of two-thousand years ago. It is a story about relationships that intertwine around an unprecedented astronomical event, as a couple navigate life's realities at a time of unfathomable significance.
