as you guys can see this is the soft stop contractor saw as you can see here saw stop has taken their saw stop technology which stops the blade of course and packaged it into a contractor version salt which means that we have a stand below the motor off the back of the saw but a lot of other features are common amongst all the saw stop line of saws this saw features a one and three-quarter horsepower motor that's wired for 110 so you can plug it in straight in your shop it comes with a poly v ribbed belt to transfer transfer that motors power to the blade uses standard 10-inch table saw blades with a 5/8 inch arbor all very standard and it's a left tilt blade it also comes with a low-profile blade guard as well as a riving knife which is awesome for keeping you safe on non through cuts now if you've never assembled a saw stop product it is unbelievable the instructions and hardware packs that come with these saws it's like nothing else you've ever assembled it's super easy to follow everything is color-coded and numbered in individual style packs it is awesome so let me go ahead and take you through using this contractors table saw as I mentioned this saw comes with a one and three-quarter horsepower motor and is wired for 110 so you can just plug it in the saw stop also features some awesome dust collection there's a four inch point all the way up underneath which is a little hard to get to but does a great job of collecting dust from the top of the salt you can see the dust shroud the black plastic here on both sides of the blade that extend from the front of the blade all the way on both sides all the way through to the back of the blade fully enclosing that blade on both sides all the way across the bottom that channels the dust into that 4 inch port once we've got our saw plugged in and the dust collection hooked up we can turn on the saw with the switch right here on the front each time the salt is turned on it goes through a self-diagnostic and the light blinks red and then when it's just steady green it's ready to go of course to turn this on we simply pull out the on switch now the saw stop safety mechanism of course is going all the time but you can bypass that here with this key on the side to put it in bypass mode simply turn the key for one second and then turn the saw on and finally saw stop includes this little yellow tab simply remove it to disable the salt altogether and now the switch will no longer turn this all on now this saw stopped contractor saw has the optional T glide fence and rails and this T glide fence is awesome it's really smooth action and it's a huge biesemeyer style fence which is great for shop made accessories running along this very large stable fence there's easy ways to adjust this to make sure that defense is of course perpendicular exactly 90 - the table and also parallel to the blade this fence also includes a little magnifying lens here right on the ruler so that you can easily see exactly where you have it set now that I've got my table saw plugged in on my dust collection hooked up I'm ready to make a cut I'm going to go ahead and slide my fence over to where I want it and lock it down here with the lever which keeps that fence nice and tight I'm going to go ahead and raise up the blade to just where I need it and I'm ready to go now if I need to make a beveled cut I can easily do that here on the side by simply turning the hand wheel and it's a left tilting blade so I can set it angles are marked here on the front and then lock it down and I'm ready to make that beveled cut so obviously you see just how easy it is to use this saw just like most contractor table saws let me go ahead and show you how quick and easy it is to change a blade change over to the riving knife and also the safety cartridge that's inside here it's really easy to get in here and change over to the riving knife or change your blade to a data stack or just to a different blade first we'll simply pull on this cover and lift it up and then with no tools just lift up here and remove the zero-clearance insert plate once we can get inside you can see the handle right there behind the blade again with no tools just reach down in there lift up that handle and now the blade guard simply slides right off and then just grab your riving knife throw it in there lock the handle back down and you're ready to go the blade guard is mounted onto a splitter or spreader here it can be detached from this spreader and the splitter here has anti-kickback Paul's at the back and can work with both thin kerf and regular curved blades and of course this spreader helps prevent kickback by keeping the wood away from the blade beyond the back of the blade now this is good for any kind of through cut and about two three quarters of an inch away from the fence when you get closer to the fence smaller cuts or if you want to do a non through cut that's when you can switch over to the riving knife now if we want to change our blades or change over to a dado stack simply grab the included wrenches slip one on the inside here and one over the outside bolt and then you're just going to simply unthread it undo that take off that bolt and washer and the blade comes right off and you can to a different blade or you can change it over to a dado stack now if you want to change over to a dado stack you're going to have to purchase the optional data stack safety cartridge and you're going to have to change out this safety cartridge that's at the back that's for standard ten inch blades simply lift up and remove this key first there's the key just simply turns and pull it out and then you can pull out the safety cartridge simply just pops right off then you grab the dado safety cartridge which is beefier for your 8-inch data stack simply take it down there's a couple of rods that's going to slide onto to get it in place slide it in then grab your key slide it back down in there get it in place and lock it down now you're ready to put in a data stack now every time you change your blade or change over to a data stack you're going to want to adjust the break to make sure that it's the correct distance from your blade included is this handy guide that's going to check the distance between the blade that's installed and this break so you just slide it in between turn your blade and make sure it's at the correct distance and you use this installed wrench right here to move the break forward or back just a little bit to get it the right distance from your blade this cartridge that we just changed is the mechanism that stops the blade if your finger or some other part of your body happens to hit the blade this large piece of metal there's a spring in here that is released sending this large piece of metal into the spinning blade which not only stops the blade but also attracts it below the table besides the zero clearance insert that comes with the saw stop you can purchase your own either from making very narrow cuts or of course making a zero clearance insert for your data stack of course you want to see the saw stop in action no I'm not going to use my finger but I am going to use a hot dog I've got a three quarter sheet of plywood here I'm going to hold on to the hot dog as if it's part of my hand and the blade is just above the sheet of plywood cutting through and we're going to go ahead and run it through Wow that was fast after examining the hotdogs I can't even find where it might have nicked it I've been looking turning the hotdogs over here and I can't even find a nick I was running that through not too quickly about as fast as I might gently push it out peace through the blade and I can't even find a nick on the hot dog let's go ahead and check out what happened to the blade in the cartridge so here is the cartridge that went into the blade both retracting the blade beneath the table and stopping the blade I think this cartridge only hit a couple of teeth I think it hit this tooth I don't see any marks on this tooth here and then of course and embedded in the next three teeth there so then four to five teeth stop the blade retracted it beneath the saw saves my hot dog so there it is the saw stopped contractor saw now this one has the optional 36-inch rail and t glide fence now if you're comparing this contractor saw versus other contractors so obviously this is a much larger investment but you're getting a lot for that money not only the saw stop technology which can be a real saver the fit and finish of this saw is far beyond any other contractor saw from the cast iron to the dust collection system which is awesome the quick change without any tools the one and three-quarter horsepower motor the true elevation on the trunnions which I didn't even get to the inside of this but the fit and finish the adjustments on the inside of this our way beefier than any other contractor saw so you're getting a lot more for your money with the saw stop now I've been using this saw just for the last couple of weeks but I thought I saw stop cabinets all in my shop for the last couple years and I love it compared to the cabinet saw the contractor saw comes with stamped steel wings cast iron optional but these steel stampings are not quite level all the way across so I had to put them a little bit lower than the cast iron here in the center and so of course I just referenced off the cast iron in the center and use the wings more for just support and that works out fine also the fit and finish not quite up to what the cabinet saw is this contractor saw just has plastic handles instead of the cast iron handles but most of the justments are all the same internals pretty much the same between the two dust collection on the cabinet saw a little bit better since you've gotten a fully enclosed saw versus the contractor saw and of course the cabinet saw you can get beefier motors but that gets into using 220 instead of 110 in the shop now SawStop technology is very expensive no doubt about it but for me it's a no-brainer if I'm making an investment into a table saw so I would definitely check out this saw stop contractor saw you
