Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator Review, Is It as Chill as it Looks?

if you are in the market for a new fridge you've most likely come across a Samsung fridge for one of two reasons one is they look pretty cool and has some really neat features or two they have a lot of problems well we've actually been Samsung fridge owners for the last eight years and we've owned a total of three fridges during that time for various reasons and so today we're going to talk about The Good the Bad and the Ugly of Samsung fridges and whether it's going to be the right thing for you and if they've changed at all over the years so let's get started first off we're going to talk about this fridge that we have right here this is the Samsung bespoke 29 cubic feet four-door French door smart refrigerator with beverage center in white glass at a standard depth now I'm going to talk about a bunch of those different things today but first let's talk about how this has no handles everyone loves the look of this fridge how clean it looks but where are the handles how do you open it up well under the doors here or above the bottom doors there there's little handles that you can just grab onto and you can open the fridge now as you can see I'm a little bit taller than the fridge I can also just grab up here is there a handle oh yeah it's in a little bit further but there is a handle up here on the top as well so that's easy to open those and then down here we have the two different ones that I can just grab the top and open now I have noticed since we don't have handles you grab it does get a little dirtier right here but one of my favorite things about this is the glass it's super easy to clean just get some glass cleaner and you can clean it compared to the other stainless steel versions that we've had in the past they get Nicks and other things like that and they would just never go away but with this glass you don't have that problem and cleaning is so easy now a few of the models we owned one of them had the touch screen on the front I of course like that having control of all my smart home but my wife didn't like having that so we decided to compromise on this one and we went without the touch screen and no water dispenser just because it has such a clean look so let's go ahead take a look inside now I did say this is the four-door with standard depth so the standard depth gives you about five more cubic feet than the counter depth and I'll go into depth and a little bit more on that so here when we open the door over here on this side you can see we have plenty of storage over there we have plenty of storage over here we can fit full-size milk on the side and then we have plenty of room for everything in there not too organized right now but it fits everything we need here we have two full-size drawers that we can fit plenty of food in we really like this little row here and then you have a really big row where you can adjust the height of this bottom one so you can make it go higher or lower or maybe you wanted two short sections you could bring this one down so a few customizations there and then right here if you do have some beverages that are a little taller and won't fit over on the side you can simply push this in and then you can stack a beverage right here so if you had something taller you know glass bottles or whatever it may be they would be able to fit here no problem and then you can simply slide that back so that's kind of the main section there over on the door you have three different sections so you can move those up and down a little bit and then over here this one is the one with the beverage center so we'll get to that in a second but here you can like set your drinks and then here we're just putting some condiments and other things like that then you have a small section there pretty cool one thing you'll notice is this model does not have a freezer or ice maker up here in the top so talk about that more but now once we close it where is the water well it's hidden behind this so down here at the bottom there's a secret handle I just have to pull and it opens that part and now you have the beverage center so let me show you that again if we open this way that's the fridge and then if I press the secret handle down in the middle it then opens to the beverage center well what does the beverage center give you right here you have your water pitcher this is 48 ounces of filtered water which is automatically filled up once you use it so put that back in here or if you just want to Simply fill up your water you can get the water right from there it's hidden it's away but still super easy to access now up here you can easily grab those drinks if you put drinks in there and then up here you can grab the other things so we haven't been using it too much for the drinks but as you can see we do have some in there now so that is what you get with the beverage center I know other models just have the water dispenser but we like having all of that right there so let's say I just finished my 48 ounce nalgian bottle I can easily grab the filtered cold water and fill up very quickly well try not to spill there so now I fill that up it's much faster oh it's telling me I have it open too much I fill it up put it back in shut the door and then it will automatically fill all the way up if you only use a little bit it will also fill all the way up it takes about one minute and I just heard it kick on that it is filling that up all right we just heard that turn off so now the next person comes wants some water oh look they have a fresh filled water that they can use now a few things this is not dishwasher safe so do not put it in the dishwasher and then this leads me to the only problem we've actually had with this fridge is in here there is a little press button that this hits when you put it in there and that lets it know there is a pitcher in there and it needs to fill it up well we've had some problems where it doesn't fill up so I've had to go in and push that button a few times and then it will fill up but actually I just 3D printed a little um you know like maybe a two millimeters and put it on there did a little sticky thing on there and now it presses it all the way in so that it triggers that some water pitcher is in there and it fills it up and we haven't had any problems since that so they just need to modify that a little bit and that will work great and just so you can see what the the rate of this is so it works but it's definitely faster just to use the water pitcher so there you go that is the beverage center again you go like this that's the full fridge and then I can separate this very easily and it still works when the door's open pretty cool so that is the main part of the fridge let's jump down here to the two bottom drawers so here we have the snack drawer so you can see there are three different components it's got these little separators that can be moved in three different sections but there's only two separators and so we use this we got some cheese some Meats some jellos and yogurts and other things in here so you can actually adjust how crisp this is so what temperature the snack drawer is but this has been great the kids can easily grab a snack it's a great height for them and you could get this with only one drawer on the bottom that's one bigger freezer or I think it's one taller fridge but we kind of like having the snack drawer here in the middle it's worked really well for us there you can see the handle right here you can grab it anywhere along the lines now if you do have somebody in the snack drawer and somebody tries to open this you could run in the problem where you're pinching fingers so recommended only to use this or the main fridge at a time so now let's head into the freezer again you can grab anywhere but right here in the middle it has a little handle that helps push the freezer out where it activates this so it's easier to open but here we can pull out the freezer over on the right side here we have a little drawer that we can add different items and then on the left side here we have the actual ice so this thing automatically covers there and then here it comes with a little scoop to scoop out the ice you can see somebody got some in the wrong spot and then when you want your ice just open this up so here you have two sizes of ice so automatically creates this larger size and then here it creates a smaller size now I wouldn't say it's pebbled ice but it is helpful in getting smaller ice into your drink so um we haven't ever ran out of this we have a few people in the home that love using ice and so far it has been plenty when you do plug in the refrigerator it does take a few days to get all the ice fully there but it just keeps filling up and we use what we need and that has worked out really great you can remove this whole thing if you want to clean it out and very easy to access and we think it works great having the ice maker there now if we keep going we have one more level in the freezer down here here we have two more trays where we can enter everything I had it open too long so then down here on the bottom we have two more freezer trays that we can use to put all of our food in now we do have a separate freezer for more storage but this is plenty for what we need on a weekly basis and that is the freezer now heading back up into the right side of the fridge you do have a few things here it's telling you the fridge temperature you can see the flex zone and then there you can see the freezer degrees here you have a notification if you need to change the filter I do need to change that it's been about six months so we'll go ahead and do that here it shows what the ice maker is doing so it says cubed ice on and Ice bites so what they're called they are on and then here we have the auto fill pitcher is on and then we have the door alarm on now this is all controlled through the SmartThings app you connect the fridge through SmartThings and then you can control all of those settings so here in the kitchen I have the refrigerator and you can see it showed that the door was closed here I can set the fridge temperature I have an option to power cool so if I just cut up the watermelon I want to cool it down I usually turn that on here I have the freezer temperature I can go to negative eight to five degrees again I have a power freeze option here is where I can turn on the cubed ice and turn on or off the ice bites here the flex zone so that is the snack drawer here in the middle currently set to Delhi but you have the option to set it as a wine or you can do beverage you could do meat or you could do a soft freeze this temperature is ideal for storing fresh meat poultry and fish as the neutral moisture in Foods is contained preserving taste and freshness so that's really cool that you can do that but we're just going to keep it here for the deli and then down here you do have some related services on things that you can use with the fridge and then here at the top under the three dot menu you can edit the device name which you would be able to adjust the name or the room it's in you can even change the icon if you want to here you can go into settings and you can adjust the Wi-Fi or you could turn on Sabbath mode this mode disables the lights control panel and other features so I think that's cool that you have that or you can turn off the autofill picture so if you don't want that on you do have the option or you do need to make sure you come in here and turn it on once you get the fridge for that to work and then we have the energy management here so this month we've used a total of 23 654 Watt hours last month we used 46 800 watt hours and then here you can adjust to do Peak demand you have a few extra settings there which is cool and then here you have defrost delay so quite a few settings there in SmartThings let's go ahead and install a new water filter now you can pick these up from Samsung you can get the genuine water filter or there are some third-party ones that we've used in the past that do work just fine here it comes with an authentication tag which has the tag on the filter placed over the back of the magnet provided in the Box green stripes should appear so there we got some green stripes so we know this is authentic so to change the water filter you have the slot right here so you just pull this up now you will need to unlock this so we're just going to pull it to the left and then all the way down there we go now with the new one we're just going to pull off the cap and you're going to slide it in with this horizontal you're going to push in and turn and there we go it should sit flush and then our filter has changed and now we need to dispense about two cups of water from the dispenser foreign and so the filter should be replaced about every six months pretty low maintenance so as you can tell I'm pretty big fan of this fridge now one thing I want to talk about is standard depth versus counter depth now in the previous home and model of fridge we got the counter depth because I thought oh it would be so great if we could have the fridge all the way back right next to the counter and so it's not sticking out so far I was okay with losing that extra cubic feet inside the fridge well I didn't know that I didn't measure properly so over here you can see we have a ton of fridge sticking out if you want actual measurements and our fridge is as far back as it can go here we still have about nine and a half inches sticking out next to the counter so that's not great well over here on this side we have a wall and it's only sticking out five and a half inches from that wall so what's the big difference well over here with the wall that makes this a place where you don't want to have counter depth if you do have a fridge where on both sides of the fridge or counter like this that's only 26 inches deep then I would consider doing counter depth but the problem with the Samsung fridges is the doors when they open if you don't have enough space they'll hit the wall and then you just have to pull out the fridge so here when I open this up you'll see it comes back to here and then if I keep opening it takes up more space so let me show you on the other side so there we are about five and a half inches and then as I open the fridge here there's barely there's barely an inch left so if I would have gone with the counter depth here I would have had to pull the counter depth all the way out this far so that I could open the door because this would in the was in the way and I would have just had a big gap at the back of the fridge and then all of that would have been wasted so highly recommend going with the standard depth unless you really really want to have a super slim fridge with counters on both sides if you have a wall like this do not get the counter depth as you're going to be losing a bunch and we love having that five extra cubic feet of space inside the fridge we have a family of six it is able to have everything we need in there and a little bit more but the counter depth was getting a little too small when we had that so that's the difference and what you need to know about that it's all because of these doors that you need to worry about that so what's the conclusion do you get this or not so before we answer that let's talk about some of the problems we've had with Samsung fridges and others have had as well so on the first model we had the ice maker in the fridge section so it's up here well that had a problem where it froze over and it got all iced up and then it wouldn't create ice anymore and then the very back of that fridge had some kind of ice leak or something and so the whole bottom of the fridge had water so we had it repaired I think two times they came out replaced some sensors and just something wasn't working right with that fridge after replacing things we ended up just saying all right let's try to get a new one because we were out of warranty so with the second one it worked great after two years I think we did have the ice maker stop working no icing over or anything like that it just stopped producing ice we're under warranty we bought an extended warranty got that replaced and everything were good the touch panel ended up going bad on that one and it got that warrantied out and it worked fine so much better the second time around so now with this this fridge we've had it for a little more than six months not quite that year mark yet but with having the ice maker in the freezer I think things are going to work a lot better we've had no issues with the ice maker or the water dispenser so I think Samsung finally has figured out how to do that properly so I'm confident that this is going to last a lot longer if it's not we'll definitely let you know down in the comments below but one thing that I didn't talk about is at the first fridge we had we didn't know that our water pressure was broken in our home it was too high and because of that high water pressure I'm thinking it caused some of the problems where it was putting too fast into the ice maker and causing too much water to be in there and that can send a chain reaction to the rest of the fridge causing things to get over iced and fill up too fast and freeze and broken so I'm not going to say that's the reason but I'm thinking that was the problem we found that our pressure reducing valve in our home was busted and we don't know how long it had been broken for but it was the first six years we lived in the other house and so once we fixed that with the other fridge we didn't have any problems so maybe that could be a problem that other people have had that they haven't talked about so with this fridge definitely confident that things are working a lot better we love having the nice clean white glass on the front we've even used this as a white board you can get a whiteboard marker and right on here we write different Mills down and other things like that and we just love how super easy it is to clean overall so what do you think of the fridge I actually like this one others that we've had had a lot of issues and the stainless steel always would scratch really bad but the ice machine works really well on this one I love that I have two different kinds of ice and I love the white it's really pretty you don't really see ever any scratches you don't really see any fingerprints or anything so I actually like this one so with my wife's approval of course the fridge is going to stay around until something happens but I think it's going to last a long time so we've been very happy with this purchase now right now Samsung is doing some kind of promotion so it might be a good deal there but we actually bought this at the Home Depot I think you can get a little bit better deal there so I'll leave a link
