hi I'm Dave flat Oh fat Nancy's tackle shop here in Pulaski New York Samak Apple the world and we're gonna tell you the hot spots on the river from the top to the bottom the number one question we get asked is where can we fish so we're gonna point out where you should be fishing first spot we're gonna start at is altamar New York the fly-fishing only catch and release open September 15th closes May 15th great fishing in that timeframe for Kings and steelhead well your hottest baits to use in the fall or STS pad and flies comet flies and wooly buggers once the steelhead show up we go to stone flies and fish egg patterns next spot we want to tell you about is a schoolhouse pool guys will fish this pool at the head of it early on in the run because the water is colder and Kings like that oxygen moves in water as the water does cool down the Kings will drop into the deeper portion of the pool where they will spawn and once they start to spawn on the gravel below you will start seeing the steelhead come up and guys will start fishing them the best bait here is guys will throw flies and egg sacks the Northside is gonna be your best access point if you do fish this outside you have to be a guest at the tailwater lodge next spot we're gonna tell you about its Ellis called real easy fishing deep water where the Kings like to hold and that high Sun here in the month of September when they enter the river the best baits here is bottom bouncing comet flies egg sacs and STS patterns off the bottom we're gonna tell you about the Trussell pool access from the north or south side good fishing all year round the Kings love it here deep water right on through to the steelhead love Holden here great oil and water all around yeah they call this at Russell as you'll see here there is an old railroad bridge that well it used to be here at one time the best spots in this hole here you'll find are on the sell side between the pillars all the way down to the bottom of the run the rapids and then if you come in from the north side it's gonna be you want to cast to the south side it's a trench that goes down through that's where your fish we're gonna hold there's some really nice riffles at the head of the pool that holds salmon when they are in here and when it comes time for your steelhead they're gonna be below the pillars in the middle of the deep water we'll get guys there in the summer that even catch smallmouth through these riffles here in the trussell hole next I want to tell you about the Pineville bridge very big parking lot for access the best fishing on the Pineville is on the south side below the bridge nice deep water that the Kings do not hold in they kind of just bypass through there but we will get the steelhead that pass through here great spot for flow fishing next hot spots the Sportsman's pool off of Route 13 on the south side big parking lot and great pull the fish the hopefuls good holds a lot of fish because it's one of the deeper holes on the river the salmon love it here right when they come in the river because the water is colder due to the deeper water and your steelhead like to hold out here through the winter months great pool the full fishing next spot is the two-way bridge usually fish below the bridge one of my favorite spots to fish steelhead not many salmon in there but a great pool below the bridge to flow fish and to definitely swing flies tell you a little bit about the ballpark another great great spot for salmon with all the riffles they love to hold in these waters early on in the season actually in the colder weather guys will just pick a lot of salmon don't do this stretch not so much steelhead more of a pass-by ball for them up to the next Holden water real easy access big parking lot best bait down through this section is guys we use rubber eggs for the salmon or Estes flies next we're going to tell you about the town pool right in the middle of the village of PLAs guy great holding water for salmon and steelhead just a great place to watch if you want to learn what's going on on the fishery guys will fish both sides of the river bouncing bottom with flies or single legs next spot is the staircase a real good salmon spot it's more of a catch him on the way through no holding water best bait here single legs tell you about the black hole deepest hole here on the river great holding water for Kings will do very well early on on King's here you can float fish gained at the tail out and catch steelhead all October on here and egg sacks and beads next to us gonna river we're gonna tell you about there's a Douglas and salmon run which is three and a half miles of controlled access you must buy an access pass to fish here we're gonna tell you some of our favorite spots through the stretch first spot on the dsr we're going to tell you about this a little black hole great hole in water for Kings and even better for steelhead later on the year best bait here's egg sacs STS wise and wooly buggers the next spot here on the dsr we're going to tell you about is the glide the glide is a very productive hole for king salmon and steelhead throughout the year best baits here is egg sacs float fishing for steelhead later in the year is more productive the tail out of this pool is very good for swing and fly next pot of the Douglas and salmon run is counties run very deep got real nice ripples to hold king salmon guys do very well here putting flies down next spots the jostle on the dogus and salmon run one of the better holding waters for the salmon and steelhead on the run where guys will catch the salmon in the headwater riffles and the tail out of the pool when it comes time to catch a steelhead here you'll catch them in the middle best baits here for the salmon are egg sacs wooly buggers and STS flies where guys will float fish this pool later on the year for the steelhead using egg sacs and jigs next spot on the Douglas and salmon run is the metals probably one of the easiest access is from shore you don't have to get in the water the rate spot for fly fishing catching Kings and the steelhead on egg patterns wooly buggers and nest has flies last place on the Douglaston same aroma and tell you about is called the mud not super deep just kind of long flat where guys knew very well swinging flies for salmon and steelhead here wooly buggers STS flies and egg sucking leeches are probably the best flies in this section it is at the bottom of the property so it is a long walk to get to the Salmon River estuary in Port Ontario New York is a great fishery for bass pike during the summer months and guys when the king salmon hold in this water before they come will fish it all the way down to the shore of Lake Ontario the estuary is a good place to look if there's a good amount of salmon Holden in the estuary you want to be on that lower half of the river the next morning just want to give you guys a quick rundown of easy setup we will use here in the Salmon River for salmon fishing what you're gonna have is from your mainline you are gonna have a snap swivel or a barrel swivel from your swivel to your hook you're allowed no more than 48 inches maximum I'm leader I like to leave a little dropper line for my split shot so if I do get hung up I can pull it my split shots fall off I don't lose everything on the leader end you can either tie the single hook and add egg sacks single eggs or guys will tie a fly on there see a lot of guys throughout the salmon season using comet flies and STS flies blue egg sack is the best here because of the river bottom it actually turns an olive color in the water last guy on the Salmon River is about the only place you'll hear guys saying blue egg sacs the number one Bay thank you for watching our River map of hot spots when you were in class guy be sure to stop and check us out we're located at 3750 State Route 13 Pulaski New York we are directly off exit 36 you
