good morning everybody happy friday we have an amazing show for everybody today what do we have crystal indeed we do we got some fantastic panels jennifer holdsworth carp rachel beauvart emily shoshinski roger fisk we've also got great guests david sirota and matt taibi we've got some great friday ufo content for you that you can look forward to sagar always on that beach um but sagar where did you want to start this morning so i wanted to take a look at this new york times article about andrew yang let's put this up there on the screen and it really bothered me because the headline was anti-asian attacks place andrew yang in the spotlight how will he use it and as josh barrow points out it is ridiculous how invested the media has gotten in the narrative that andrew yang is bad for asian americans first of all this article is not even written by somebody who is asian american now what is the substance of their attack against andrew yang in terms of these anti-asian attacks down in atlanta well crystal he was not the first candidate in the new york mayoral race to condemn it or because he once wrote because he recently wrote we asian americans need to embrace and show our american-ness in ways that we never have before all and they cannot stand him these woke asians have been attacking him from the very beginning all the way back to the 2020 presidential campaign which we uh remarked on at the time which is that he would describing himself as an asian man who likes math would feed stereotypical tropes now you know what the best way to beat a stereotypical trope is is to become a wildly popular political candidate is to actually garner votes from white black jewish whomever americans and win an actual race showing that asian americans of course can win national political office or raise tens of millions of dollars and start a real movement and that's what he's been able to do this is just a completely manufactured thing where they take these incredibly small minority of asian woke writers online quote them about concerns about from the asian american community and as josh barrow pointed out in that tweet actual asians in new york love andrew yang he's got sixty percent support of like eighty-five there's like a million candidates actual people in in new york asians are like hey i'm all about andrew yang and yang gang and so once again it's completely disconnected from what a actual population thinks and they are attacking him because he's not woke enough basically it's like he can they just hate him and that's really what it comes down to and he drives the asian-american activists crazy in particular because as you can clearly see he's joking he's actually dismantling the stereotypes by talking about the stereotype it's the easiest way in order to defeat it and i can say that as somebody who's indian american and has this job and i'm supposed to be you know like an engineer or a doctor right and like that's you know it's funny i'm happy to joke about it and yet just by being here that's something that breaks a stereotype you don't have to talk about it incessantly or whatever and that's what they want him to do he refuses to play by their script and by doing that has garnered majority asian support and yet they have to attack him well they're just they're like trying to invent a narrative that doesn't exist because if you just look at look if it was a real thing if you had a large contingent of asian american voters who were like i don't like how he handled this and i've got a big issue with it and as a result i'm voting for x other candidate that's a story then you interview those actual people you you know write the story here are the concerns here's what andrew says about it but instead they're inventing an entire narrative that doesn't exist and by the way it's also just like barfing back up the exact same piece that they wrote when he was running for president yeah i know i see him here and they just had to add on the piece of like he wasn't the first to condemn the atlanta killings what is this a race you gotta be the first one in with your tweet maybe you wanted to think about it maybe you wanted to reflect on it maybe right and that's the that's the other thing that is amusing to me about all of this is like if it's a candidate that they like like say kamala harris is one example then her minority status is like used to say of course black voters are gonna love of course black women are gonna support a black woman of color but here it's almost the reverse it's like well because he's asian-american but doesn't have the views we want him to have it's going to be a problem for asian americans when actually it's the polar opposite andrew truly has the support of many majority it appears of asian americans in the city of new york kamala never could claim that based on her identity so their whole frame of how they cover this is incredibly selective incredibly disingenuous yeah and the mainstream media they have knives out for this guy it's like every day i see a new piece that's just trying to find some new angle it drives them crazy that he didn't come up through the new york machine that they don't control him they don't like him he's not part of the club and it drives them crazy that he's succeeding nonetheless i was just seeing a new poll out that has him in first not only on the top line but also after all the ranked choices is you know considered and look again this is not like i have issues with the way that andrew yang ran in the presidency i've had issues with this campaign as well cover those substantive policy issues rather than just trying to gin something out up out of nothing yeah absolutely and look they're not the asian police any of these activists or whomever you don't get to decide what's asian and what's not andrean is an american he can be behave however the hell he wants to and he also happens to have majority agent support so maybe you people are the ones who are out of touch with actually how about that how about that all right more rising for you after this you
