Ryan Gosling's Kids Coached Him Through Big 'Barbie' Scene

saw the movie last night so much fun so smart um let's talk about some of the more superficial stuffers before I love it thank you yes yes you're welcome the hair the makeup Etc the first moment you look in that mirror and your Barbie your kid what was the thought that came to mind well in Bobby land we don't actually have reflective surfaces so when we look in the mirror it's just to see through the circle but I do I do remember the first time I was fully kitted out as Bobby and I did have that kind of giddy moment of low looks so pretty wow wow I've been talking a lot about like the vibe in Barbie land and stuff and I was like it's kind of like every day is your wedding day or like your day you go to prom whatever day where you felt just amazing because you had your hair done and your makeup done you had the outfit that you'd planned for ages and you just like got something really exciting coming up that night yeah totally that feeling is every day in Barbie land yeah and that's how you felt get out of my head okay yeah you just were like wow it's like my wedding day every day every day but he's a kid it's maybe a little different I don't want to speak on behalf I was like it's Barbie no I got it in my tiny shorts and I think my first thought was I don't think I have to shave my legs I'm pretty I think I'm good and then I got to set regret it was like I think we're gonna yeah they're gonna need to do that we were all having all the Kens were having that conversation I think it was really fine man I can't see it I don't think it is in HD it is like 60 mil I love the moral support between the kids oh it was real it's beautiful there's so many incredible costumes so much Nostalgia right for the people who genuinely grew up loving their Barbies there were so many fun references or like inside jokes if you will um when you think about all of those was there a favorite look a favorite costume anything that kind of took you back to your if you had them Barbie days I I didn't have a ton of Bobby's growing up but I did have the Dream House the fold out dream house I got that one Christmas and it was the greatest thing ever and when we started the movie you know when Greta first came on board and we spoke about you know what what are we gonna do I said I just there's just two things she was like what do you want there to be in the movie and I was like I just have two requests and she was like okay sure and I was like a slide that goes from her bedroom down to the pool and and then made Bobby and look you can make both those things happen in the movie I'll be the happiest girl in the world she's like really that's it that like Annie and I was like No just those two things no writers nothing just those two things and rest assured they're both there we go yeah I love that for you you mentioned shaving the legs you brought Big Ken energy big kennergy I guess I should say we just use that together um what was the process like for you I mean the bleach blonde tips it was given 90s boy band I was here for it what'd you think I just went back to my 12 year old self and I was like I'm gonna need your help for this and he was like you abandoned me a long time ago Dude and I was like I'm sorry about that but let's let's bring it together for Barbie shall we work it out later and that you do that you did well Bravo Now what I did love was it obviously it also tackles some really important topics too right I mean you get death you get disillusionment you get the patriarchy you get women in power I want to talk about the theme of disillusionment though because Barbie goes through some of that obviously I won't give too much away has there ever been a time in your life young old now does it matter when you expected one thing and it was something entirely different from what you expected that's an interesting question I I distinctly remember the first time that I realized adults lie and I suddenly thought this life is way more complicated than I thought yeah like oh they don't know what they're doing and they're making it up as they go along and oh Jimmy and you were younger like yeah I was I was a kid realizing that and I was like I caught an adult like caught them in their lives sort of thing and I just sat there and I was like well life just got a whole lot scarier right adults don't actually know what they're doing either that's that's terrifying that is but that's kind of Life yeah it's it's kind of terrifying and we not we don't all know what we're doing but we're trying and that's beautiful absolutely well said so true Ryan was there ever a moment like that and you're like adults line yeah definitely adults okay still yeah there's a thing there's a pad in here yeah get out of my head what is up YouTube something is Barbie swimming no chemistry here no no no no no no mines have melted at this point just one yeah there's the Bobby cohesive what was the the first impression on set you guys hit the ground rolling what was that Vibe like between the two of you how'd you build the chemistry if you had to I mean if I may go first what was the first thing my first thought was because when we were doing rehearsals yeah you were kind of more like pulled back with how you were playing everything and I remember thinking my head I was like oh okay he's gonna play it a little more reserved I should calibrate my performance so that like you know I was doing the same thing I was like well she's gonna play it back shut up no anymore yeah I'm not gonna go crazy anyways and then we got on set on day one and Ryan went so like 150 percent and I was just like I was like buckle up we're going on a ride she's going big I'm going big and it was really fun I love it I love it was that the plan Ryan you're like I'm just gonna hit the ground running day one she's gonna step it up I don't know what happened honestly it's all a blur Greta and Margo just did some kind of like you know they conjured this out of me somehow yeah I blame them that's your fault and I'm very grateful thank you and obviously we've got the iconic Foot Right that Arch but what I want to know stay on my feet by the way there's been some queries online and I just want to clarify yeah my feet shut it down these are your feet and my feet thank you thank you Ken such a gent they taught you well in Barbie land there's a couple other Ken's in the room that didn't do anything yeah we'll talk about this lady all right back to Ken School those are your feet they're on my feet cover it up yeah covered it with makeup okay yeah I was like not that hard to paint to just keep it in no I'll be with the tattoo no I know all my tattoos not that I have many but they're all on my left foot um and I keep it that way because I don't want to spend more time in the makeup trailer in the mornings really in fact I'm trying to get some of them removed because I was like it's an extra 10 minutes and you need um if you don't I'm not waking up in Barbie land every day you don't look that good that 10 minutes matters I mean it matters right and now I gotta ask the kids have they watched their little young for this but will they eventually watch are you getting cool points they know you're in the film yeah they they do know him in the film they've been so supportive and you know they I I like crib so many things from them they were that they do and put it in the film and yeah there's also like you know if you saw the film is like a part at the end that I had to like rehearsal at for oh and I was doing it at home and so they knew it better than I did and they came to set when I did it and they were off camera like they're incredible coaches I'll tell them okay I'll be waiting for the album to drop by the way I'm very impressed both of you thank you so much thank you
