Rustic Barndominium Tour!!

all right guys welcome back to the channel thank you guys for tuning in today I want to show you guys our home the house that we built it's been about two years ago now we've lived back here um it's not your typical house the house is 3 000 square feet the actual box the building is 30 by 40. two stories and above that there's a loft and then there's a 10 by 12 mudroom laundry room on this back corner so it also has 28 by 10 foot porch on this side and then on the other side it has a 10 foot by 40 foot lean-to off that side so I just wanted to kind of show you guys what we have it's a little different I call it a rustic barndominium there's a lot of things out there a lot of barndominiums metal sided buildings I decided to do wood on this so it's another [Music] if your metals a dollar fifty a square foot the wood siding is going to be about twice that so just kind of give you a ballpark of what the wood costs compared to the metal the back of our building faces South and I did put metal on that that way that harsh Sun didn't destroy a bunch of wood on the back and nobody was going to see it anyway so I'll show you guys the back we'll do a walk through the outside and then we'll go inside and I'll show you guys the inside all right first we'll head over on this side of the house where the porch is um our well is right out here around this windmill I just had a water line trenched if you don't follow the channel we have a cabin that we're working on down there and we throw pumpkin patch and we have a garden over here but uh there's a lot going on around here but here is the well all those pumpkins are we sell our pumpkins in the fall that's the last of them that's why there's a bunch of pumpkins out here but this side here faces West has a little bit of sun on it right now um we have our fire pit down here these rocks we dug out whenever we were digging the foundation for the house the house is on a slab thought I had to dig some of it out the back room on the back is 10 foot by 12 foot and all those beams on the porch they're eight by Eights we'll kind of walk around at a distance and then I will get closer and show you more in detail it's the back of the home like I said it has the metal on it I didn't want too much wood on the back and the maintenance was going to be high usually there's not a lot of Sun hitting the building but right now is evening and it's fall so the sun's just at a spot where there's not a lot of trees blocking it but it's not a real harsh hot sun in the summertime the sun doesn't hit it because of the way the sun's hits the trees but walk up here [Music] this is the porch we have stained concrete foreign [Music] baton siding [Music] we've got the beams and the tongue and groove ceiling [Music] it's a really nice place to sit and relax [Music] the inside of the porch that's a 12-foot wall to the ceiling and then out here it's about eight and a half feet then coming around to this side I'll show you the front we have a eight foot tall by 18 foot wide garage door it's a little bit oversized but not too big the ceilings inside are 10 feet tall and I have cultured stone on both sides and then Live Edge siding the vertical the horizontal sidings Live Edge and the vertical siding is the board and Baton siding [Music] so it's a full two story and a loft then over here this is the end of the lean two I call it which looked the same as that it was open but I kind of use it as a workshop so I built this end wall in it just to kind of keep people from being able to see all my junk and over here's my firewood shed lawnmower four-wheelers just shed to keep stuff out of the winter out of the weather and then this here is going to I went ahead and put galvanized metal for siding in here [Music] I keep got my toolbox and my workbench and different things we can do different projects has the same ceiling and beams as the other side and then obviously we live in our garage so [Music] everything that normal people would put in their garage right now it's all out here underneath the lean too on shelves [Music] here's the junks Paula everybody has a junk pile of mine's over there are barns out there for our horses and a couple calves and this is a new project we're working on it's a puppy pin we're about to have a litter of miniature golden doodles so they'll be ready right before Christmas so if anybody has an interest in golden doodles a mini golden doodle let us know I'll make a video on that anyway this is it it's the outside we've got a concrete driveway we hardly ever Park on it the kids play on it mostly we usually park out here in the gravel driveway and there are no houses super close our driveway is pretty long up that direction there's a subdivision up there we're all kind of on the back of the subdivision and have it to ourselves back here it's a real pretty place so anyway this is the outside if anybody has any questions I could make a more detailed video of how we built it I'll probably slide in a few pictures at the end of uh the stages of building it we've taken pictures we didn't we don't have any video footage but I'll slide some pictures in so people can see but all right I'll take you guys inside and we'll see the inside of the house [Music] all right welcome to the inside of the downstairs it's 30 foot wide by 40 foot long this over here is kind of my space the office or I do a lot of my computer work um try to keep organized over here our dining area is here we just have a big open room so we just kind of have it sectioned off by the furniture how you see the living room's over here and this is where the kids do their music Kimberly works with them they all play Lila and four kids there's four violins there and this is what we consider our front door so it's where we come in [Music] back in the back we have the kitchen I have an island with a bar for the kids to sit at we have this uh Hoosier cabinet that Kimberly's dad had built for her when she was younger and she stores a lot of her flour and stuff in that [Music] the cabinets are just box cabinets from Lowe's uh we painted them and put them all together ourselves and we have this hood that we've built [Music] open shelving for some of the dishes [Music] cups and then obviously we use the cabinet space for pots and pans and silverware and towels these countertops come from Menards they're not actually countertops I turn them into countertops and I can make a video on that if anybody's interested on how to these countertops all together cost I think around 240 or 250 dollars I've got 12 feet of counter space this way a little five foot section down there and then we have this island it's 30 inches by seven feet long and this one's I think 18 inches or 16 inches by seven feet long [Music] we'll be heat and cool our house with these mini splits mainly cool our house because in the winter time we use this wood stove wood stove Heats our whole house as long as we're home that's what we heat with if we leave or are gone for a little while then our Mini Splits obviously we keep the thermostat I think sit on like 68 and they'll kick on while we're gone and the fire dies but for the most part [Music] we just heat with wood this is the pantry our Kimberly keeps a lot of her different things for cooking the stairwell under the stairs for going upstairs then over in this corner we have our laundry room so the laundry room mud room area is here it's this indoor off the porch and this is kind of a utility room we have our water heater in here our pressure tank for our well we keep a freezer we have a shelf in here for canning supplies and then our breaker boxes back in that corner so yep [Music] and then we have one bathroom downstairs it's located right here foreign for guests has a 48 inch vanity and [Music] toilet just a bathroom for our downstairs all the bedrooms and the rest of the bathrooms are upstairs so I'm going to take you guys up the stairs and I'll show you where my wife does school with the children and our Loft and then I'll kind of show you down the hallway two the bedrooms [Music] all right as you come up you have 18 steps this way and then there's 12 steps that go up to a loft I have a loft up there and we just kind of use it for storage right now the kids play up there but this here is the school room it could serve as a living room I've got it plumbed on that wall over there for putting a kitchenette in if we ever wanted to put a little kitchenette up here in another living room and use the downstairs for a shop this could still be a house [Music] kid each one of our children have a spot they sit here's Kimberly's desk three desks over here and a table [Music] so there's 15 foot ceilings in here and then that Loft the only thing I haven't finished in the house that I can think of is I put those spindles on up there and I need to put the spindles on the railing that comes down those stairs that's not finished and then down this hallway [Music] there's two bedrooms on the right master and one of our kids bedrooms and then there's a bathroom and a bedroom on that side so there's a total of three bedrooms and two bathrooms up here and then this barn door is the school supplies closet for the school room so that's as much as I'm going to show up here not going to show the bedrooms and you can kind of get a feel for how they're done this they're the same paint color sheetrock up here wood trim barn doors and then but there are private spaces so foreign right in the middle of the upstairs is seven feet high so it's our six and a half but it it's good space for the kids to have [Music] I was just gonna insert a few of these photos from when we [Music] built the house I had a few on my old phone so I saved them in here and this is when they were drilling the well but it's kind of fun to look back and see the progress and the steps that it took to build so I'll show you a few pictures [Music] love having our friends over and different people and it's a good place to open the garage door and let everybody come in and we just appreciate the people that do come and share this space with us
