hey everybody alpy alpy trains today we have a special episode of Andre runs why is it special well it's special for a number of reasons one this was one of my very favorite locomotives Howard ever had running on his layout Howard's had this alagan it's a monster the CNO 2666 h8 it's the heaviest steam locomotive ever built I believe it was even heavier than the big boy it is a key locomotive Andre is going to tell you about and Howard came downstairs earlier and picked 30 beautiful Freight cars to go with this and the cars as you know are either scratch built or highquality craftsman wood kits that Howard had built over the years and he assembled 30 beautiful cars to run on this train and we're going to take her around the layout and if you watch videos Alan Keller featured this locomotive in his videos farest Nace featured this locomotive in his DVD videos now it's my turn let me show you one other place this locomotive happened to pop up in well it popped up in Howard Zayn's big book my life with model trains and this is the book we sell for $69.95 if you're interested shoot me an email and it's shown up in the book in numerous places this happens to be the local motive here's another shot here she is in the morning Haze coming out what a beautiful piece all right I'm going to turn it over to Andre and he's going to tell us a little history about this locomotive Andre how you doing hey good seeing you again AL how are you good and tell us about this locomotive wow this does have a story this this could be the signature piece of my collection uh I must have caught Howard at a very weak moment because uh there's no reason that I was given the opportunity to buy this but uh back in ' 86 uh key imported through Sam hungs up they did two runs they did an early version and a late version both Factory painted they did do a third version in ' 86 but that wasn't Factory painted um Howard did all the weathering on this and you know this is where he he's just an artist and you look at it and it just every Square centimeter of this model is just right looks right and it's weather just the way it's supposed to be um they probably imported uh over the decades they probably imported uh over a thousand ah uh h8 yes 2666 they call this the big boy of the East uh that would be an argument that you'll never be able to uh find an answer to but based on weight and based on size this is as big a locomotive as ran in the East Coast uh so what we did um is we said you know what let's put a conest together that's got some meat to it and uh I don't know if you can see it but it goes around the corner and it goes way back to the back over there it goes way the hell back about another 25 ft or so so we're catch it as she goes around most of these cars that you're going to see here though that we're featuring The locomotive we're going to be featuring these cars uh Howard sat down with us and pulled out about 20 of them and uh these are his favorites whether they're scratch built or kit built uh all of these go back decades and uh if you look at them they're just all just right some of these are resins some of these most of these are wood um a lot of these were kits from ambroid uh the stock cars I know very little about stock cars but I learned a lot from Howard uh these are some of the finest looking stock cars uh that you can get and again I tell people if you have not tried to build a W kit you really owe it to yourself to uh get one of those kits that are about 30 40 years old and ambroid made these back in the 70s and 80s um I've done some I I did two cabusas I got to do one of these if you can find them that's the trick and other other kits like sunshine made Sunshine is probably a a name that Old-Timers know and remember very well they they're very prolific the Reapers beautiful reefers well let's get this thing on its way man let get this thing going let's see what she's doing here all right we're in the town of Old Bridge let's make sure we're all plugged in uh you know what I think I need to enter a code you're going to have to excuse me for just a second all right she's number 1620 we keep it real here folks enter let's give it a long blow of the [Music] horn all right going pull out of the yard here bear in mind she's got quite a load and it's just really no problem it's no problem this thing has pulled over 100 cars on this layout before well Jan Willard did a Refresh on this locomotive Howard picked it up U right as it was brand new in ' 86 and uh started running it but about 6 years ago Jan took another look at it and if I didn't know better I think he put a new motor in there I knew he he put new uh decoders in and uh she's uh she's fresh as can be there goes some of the sunshine cars God these stock cars on absolutely beautiful that's all wood stunning those are basically stick by stick these are you can see inside them some more Sunshine uh 50ft reefers reefers yeah these I think this was their signature model now this coming up here this Green Bay and Western is one of Howard's favorites just they just look right look look at the weathering on the New York Central uh reefer and you got a couple of gondolas some nnw cold cars yeah these are just uh beautiful all right here we go the train uh pulling out these beautiful Freight cars and uh folks I just want want you to see every one of these cars they're absolutely beautiful oh yeah there goes our Caboose let's go check let's go catch up with the Train the mammoth h8 as it runs through Appalachia greatness can
