hey everyone and welcome to story time my name is Jake and today we are gonna be looking at the subreddit Asajj Pro revenge where people tell us that best stories and when they got revenge on someone I as a former store manager deliberately hide a thief as my replacement I was recently let go from my job as a store manager the company I worked for was abusive to both me and my staff some examples there are a lot more would be the owners slash upper management coming to the store and chasing the staff around while snapping their fingers and saying you're not working hard enough go go go the owners slash upper management coming to the store and telling me how fat ex-employee is the owners slash upper management spreading rumors about the stuff and I the owners slash upper management screaming at us over the phone loud enough that the customers could hear it a month or so before I was let go I had to pay dispute wherein I explained bluntly but professionally how they need to pay me because it's the right thing to do they had promised extra pay above my salary for working hours I shouldn't have had to do because of something they did and then purposely did not pay me that money eventually they paid me but they really didn't like that I stood up for myself and the started their plan to get rid of me one of them even stopped speaking to me altogether after this I was strangely given permission to hire a staff for the store I needed one so I happily posted an ad online and started interviewing people it took a month but I finally found what I liked and called their references which came back average but good enough as sales representative I knew saw the resume on my desk and told me I should call X business which was not on the resume I did it turned out this person had been fired for theft of money and product in the same industry of which I'm hiring for I decided not to hire the thief a few days after deciding against the thief I was forwarded a resume from the owner that had stopped speaking to me it was instructing me to interview the thief I decided against but how did this owner get the thief's resume in their inbox the ad was mine and forwarded only to my email and only I had the password to the account I followed the link back to an ad that I didn't write and post it from a different account this ad was for a store manager a poor attempt of being sneaky I could have quit right then but I had a better idea the owners are notoriously spiteful but I know they are also lazy and don't do their due diligence they think they are having me hire my own replacement without me knowing so I hired the thief as my employee while the owners having already seen that thief's resume sees them as a good fit for store manager I vouch for the thief's references knowing they'd never call them themselves three weeks later I was let go when I arrived at my store the owner seemed confused by the big smile on my face when they told me I was genuinely happy to be finished there it was the worst employment experience of my life but it was a job of necessity I was able to collect employment insurance thankfully the thief took over managing the store thanks to the new store hours the thief works five days a week with no staff open to close unsupervised that thief is gonna have a great time there no one around to stop him no one around to check if he's doing anything or whatever this guy's just gonna be taking things for months make my kid cry well guess I'll make sure you pay the douche bag or property tax so I was out to dinner with a buddy of mine last night we were talking about crappy neighbors and it reminded me of this story from about four years ago a little background when we moved to our house about 12 years ago I would name as next-door what awesome they came over with cookies and pie they introduced us to the other folks on the street etc unfortunately the husband got a job transfer and they had to move about a year after we got there before they left he and I had a conversation talking about property taxes here in Texas which are very high because we have no state income tax he told me that he never reported that he built up all to the County Assessor's Office because it would have triggered a reassessment and his home value and this property taxes would have skyrocketed he said he even grew his trees out a certain direction to cover the pool from satellite photos I thought that was interesting but kept that info to myself so new neighbors move in they seem okay not super friendly but cordial we will call them the Smiths for the sake of this story their oldest boy was the same grade as my middle girl so she would sometimes play outside in their front yard from time to time no biggie well just before Christmas 2015 my daughter who is 9 this is important comes running into our house crying sobbing I asked her what's up she said mr. Smith told me I am a bad kid and I can't go over there anymore I was like what I got a bit more info out of her while trying to calm her down basically he yelled at her for something she did told her she was a bad kid and wasn't welcome anymore I'm thinking okay there's more to the story no reasonable adult would talk to a nine-year-old girl like that so I went outside next door to chat with him assuming this was a misunderstanding I walk up to him and kindly ask him what happened he responded screw off I'm tired of your little douchebags coming over here doing whatever they want you keep your kids off my lawn I'll keep mine off yours I was taken aback I tried to ask him what my kid did to upset him so much he yells at me to get off my lawn before I called the cops and he starts acting threatening so I leave I won't start a fight but I sure as hell will finish one but either way I don't really want to get into a fistfight with my next-door neighbor so I'm like fine screw this I went back to my house instructed my kids to never step foot on their Lord or talk to their kids again and moved on with life even though he apparently couldn't he was bad-mouthing me to other neighbors on the street glaring at me when I would pull into my driveway if he was outside etc keep in mind I never found out what my daughter did to upset him but as a reasonable adult if someone's kid does something wrong you talk to the parent you don't scream at the nine-year-old kid until they cry if he had told me what had happened I would have gladly spoken with my daughter to rectify the behavior and had her apologize and make it right for anything she actually did so a few months later I am reviewing my property tax statement for 2016 on our County's website you can see your bill as well as the bill and assessments for your neighbors out of curiosity I check to see if they ever reassessed the neighbor's house for the pool imagine my surprise the county still doesn't seem to know they have a pool so their tax bill is like four thousand dollars and some change for 2016 similar to what is being every year since they moved in hmm it would be a shame if their bill went up because a reassessment was triggered to to a significant renovation or upgrade / the Assessors website so the next day I called from a random extension at an empty desk in my office spoke to someone at the assessor's office and anonymously told them the house at 1 2 3 4 X 3 had a pool that was built back in 2002 that was never assessed went back on the website a few weeks later to see if anything changed turns out the reassessment required a physical visit apparently Sydney bir added onto the back of his house too without telling the county didn't know this because I hadn't stepped foot in the backyard since the Smiths moved in and apparently was hidden by the tree branches plus I heard from another neighbor on the street that he was also assessed back taxes for the value of the pool going back to 2008 when they moved in VAT 2016 tax bill show up to almost eleven thousand dollars and has been close to seven thousand dollars a year ever since this is a grown man shouting a nine year old child and then shouting at the dad when he kindly asks what happened like he's not an adult he's the child here call me lazy and question what I do at work all day enjoy the extra workload buddy I work at a small company that primarily works in e-commerce as a sort of jack-of-all-trades one of those roles includes me overseeing a lot of advertising budgets through a bunch of different mediums while I manage these passively on a daily basis I dive into each of these platforms intensively on a month-to-month basis to see where my job can be a little more effective that data along with sales also informs another aspect of my job which is breaking down unit sales to give my boss a clearer picture of where he places reorders since were a company with only a handful of people and most have their own specialized roles we work as a team in an environment that mostly leaves you mostly responsible for your own time if something likes behind it is super obvious as to who is at fault in my work with advertising and analytics the situation is a little more opaque as there are ups and downs during weeks and some of this is fulfilled through other parties think FBA on Amazon my coworker who works in logistics is without a doubt a solid-gold douche he often drinks when he begins a shift think a 40 or a tallboy or two and it occasionally causes orders to be misplaced wrong or sent to the wrong address as a tree sometimes the warehouse will smell faintly of stale beer on top of this he's entitled and confrontational because he's the only one that does a real man's job ie not primarily computer based and doesn't like the fact that I have a flexible schedule wherein I can arrive / leave when I please just so long as the work is done because of this confluence of factors we'll go through phases where I don't interact with him much at all over stretches of time that can go through months he's kept around because it's not easy to find someone who's familiar with specific logistic platforms and can take over the job on day one and if it happened it would require me switching my job duties almost entirely to shipping to keep up with the demand still with the work required and in combination with the fact that a good chunk of this is third-party fulfilled he got to enjoy a decent amount of downtime and there were days when an hour-long phone call or a two-hour lunch all coming in for a half day wasn't that uncommon earlier in the year we had a semi trailer full of product come in that I helped him unload along with the rest of the team extra hands were welcome but not entirely necessary but I came in on a day where I wasn't in a great mood during the unloading he chided me for being slow and told me to pick up the paste put your back into it row after years of snide comments like this and just being generally fed up with him I wasn't having it today sorry dude I haven't had my morning beers to give me that extra pep in my step what did you say you want to go bro go away keep your comments to yourself or you can unload the trailer alone you're a disrespectful douche what do you even do here all day locked up in your office lazy loser lazy oh boy at this point my boss told us both to shut up and get back to work I threw on my headphones and quietly did the rest of the unload without incident but as I mulled over the exchange I decided that this light on me was going to be repaid in full a few days later I felt that it was time for a response and decided to move up my reviewing processes for advertising as part of these duties I can move a lot of money around and in fact after a long review I decided that we were just spending a little too much on third party fulfilment maybe I can even scrape a few hundred extra dollars in sales and savings if I move a few more orders in-house a new module I was working on that would drive sales to our website instead of focusing on other channels let's double the budget and finish that up a few weeks ahead of schedule and because I decided to let curiosity get the best of me let's move a few hundred dollars from an adequate but middling campaign that used third-party fulfillment and move that towards a different platform that would require us fulfilling the packages in-house I told my boss that I was going to be experimenting with the advertising budgets a little more than usual to see if I could get some extra business and want him sufficiently that it might result in losses or additional money burned to get the data that I needed I have a stellar track record so he was of course fine with that over the next few weeks this money was slowly moved over to ramp up the experiment at first it resulted in a net of about eight extra orders a day of a typical day of 70 or 80 a small profit margin was realized as while a few of these were new orders some were simply moving the orders from third party fulfillment to in-house fast forward to the present months later and the changes that I've made have been fully realized there is now on average an additional forty to sixty orders that my coworker now has to manually fulfill by himself due to the shift in advertising budgets on top of that it has resulted in a not insignificant amount of money in both savings and profit due to the orders being fulfilled in-house my boss is pleased and has signaled that arrays is possibly forthcoming since the raise is currently unrealized I'm enjoying my revenge in the meantime wholeheartedly that downtime I previously mentioned that he enjoyed that's all gone now one of the few metrics he has to deal with is getting orders out on time or it will affect his pain as a result beer time has all but disappeared because there just simply isn't enough time in the day and he now averages a 30-minute lunch break instead of the hour he was accustomed to half days are now a thing of the past he complains fairly regularly to my other co-worker that the work just doesn't stop far be it from me to gloat I haven't said anything I'll let the extra work gloat for me don't call me lazy this is actually amazing because it's a revenge on that douchebag co-worker who definitely deserved it and it's also a great success for this guy and the company well it works out best for everyone well maybe not the guy hey everyone I hope you all had a really good
