Rolex 16610 vs. Rolex 116610 Submariner Comparison Review - Old Pre Ceramic Vs New Ceramic

everyone today we're comparing a couple great dive watches there's a lot of differences in these watches a lot of similarities hopefully if you're in the market or you're trying to decide between the two this video will kind of help you out and shed some light on some of those features before we get into it be sure to subscribe to the channel we have a lot of good reviews coming up a lot of comparisons and just a lot more great watch content altogether so first we have the Rolex one six six one zero and this watch was introduced in 1988 and it was the final evolution of the aluminum bezel in the Submariner and next we have the Rolex Submariner one one six six one zero this was introduced in 2010 it was completely redesigned a lot of changes and this was the first time we saw a ceramic bezel on a stainless steel Samarin er all right let's start with the older model the one six six one out first off it's in a 40 millimeter case stainless steel this is pretty standard for Rolex pretty standard for the Submariner if you've ever worn a sub earner in the past it's gonna feel the same it's gonna look the same next let's notice it's a time and date watch it has the date window also with the Cyclops that makes the date a little bit easier to read next has the aluminum bezel that's the big thing on this watch the big eye catching difference between this one and the newer one is the difference between the aluminum bezel here and the ceramic bezel on the newer one the aluminum bezel is kind of nice I like the look of it I think it has a nice matte look you can kind of see how the light catches it over here it's not super shiny but it does have that color and a little bit of depth and just kind of a nice soft look which i think is really nice but there's some drawbacks to the aluminum bezel right it gets scratched up easier it gets dent it easier it's just not as durable as a ceramic which is one reason that they updated it but nonetheless this is the one with the aluminum bezel black bezel black dial it's a great look now let's take a look at the current version the Submariner one one six six one zero first off we notice looks like a bigger watch it's not it's the same 40 millimeter case but it is a super case so it looks bigger notice it has bigger lugs bigger crown guards it's a deeper case the bezels a little bit wider it has a maxi dial which we'll get into a second but anyway it looks like a bigger watch it really feels bigger and feels kind of beefy but it's not it's the same 40 millimeter case size which I think it's really nice it feels beefier but it doesn't feel huge or too big on your wrist so I think that's kind of nice we'll talk about the lugs they're a little bit longer throw a little bit wider same thing with the crown guards they're a little bit bigger just bigger feel all the way around you might notice that the dial looks a little bit larger too it's the markers that this one has the maxi dial which the markers all the way around are a little bit bigger so it's a little brighter it's there's more loom in the loom plots and it's a little bit easier to read on your wrist so all of those factors the super case the maxi dial the wider bezel all those lend to the feel of a bigger watch even though it's in the same 40 millimeter case I think it's kind of nice and personally I like the way that the the larger feel and look of the updated version is next thing we noticed is the ceramic bezel this one has the newer ceramic bezel insert versus the older aluminum bezel insert on the previous model you can kind of see over here in the light you see the reflection how the ceramic it really catches the light it's really sharp looking you know it has a good strong reflection and a good strong cut where the light falls off he's just a really sharp looking bezel insert you notice a little more from the across the room it's a little fancier looking a little cleaner looking I just think it has a really nice look all together just kind of elevates the look of this watch all right let's get these two together see some comparisons side-by-side so we can really see some of the differences of these two both have the Mercedes hands both have the time and date with the Cyclops black dial black bezel stainless steel case you know there are a lot of similarities with these watches but there are a lot of differences let's look at the size first off you'll notice with the one one six six one oh looks a lot larger like I said before they're both 40 millimeter cases but this one looks a lot larger whereas larger it presents larger a lot of that has to do with super case design you can kind of see the width of these lugs these are a lot narrower than these there's just a lot more metal and a lot more beef and a lot more heft in the newer version another thing that really lends to the larger look is the maxi dial you see the markers are a lot smaller on this one they look good but there are lots Moeller this one the markers are really big the loom plots are bigger there's a lot more lumen them so the white kind of stands out up against that black dial and there's a lot more of it to stand out let us know what you guys think do you like the Mexi dial do you like the super case maybe you have a smaller wrist and you prefer the older style or maybe you just think it's a little more subdued I don't know leave us a comment and let us know what you think is the maxi dial and the super case actually an improvement or is it just a style thing that you know you think is a little over the top leave us a comment also another big difference in this watch is the bezel insert the newer model has the ceramic bezel insert versus the older model with the aluminum insert and when they're side-by-side you can really see the difference here so look on the left side around the 9 o'clock 10 o'clock where you can see the light reflecting off the bezels this one has the matte look you know you see the light reflecting off but you can still read everything and it has kind of a soft matte reflection on it the ceramic it's really sharp it's clean the light falls off really sharply and it's just really bright and really shiny I like the ceramic I think it has a really clean look in it I think it makes more of a statement on the piece and I think it's a great improvement the new model has the chrome alight loom which has that blue color versus the green color of the older model again I think that there's not much of a performance difference in them I mean this is an older watch so it might not shine as brightly but brand new I think they're pretty close in performance the chroma white might last a little longer but the big difference is the color so that's another preference thing let us know do you like the blue you like the green alright here we can really see the difference in loom the newer model has the blue kind of teal look where the old one is more of a green yellow on the loom I think they both look great I like the blue because it's newer and it's just a little bit different I like to change I think it's interesting it's a nice mix up but anyway you can see the difference side by side if that's factoring into your decision on possibly purchasing one of these watches this is a real good example of what they look like compared to each other alright let's talk about the bracelet and clasp on the older version the one six six one oh it's the Rolex stainless steel waist or bracelet and at first glance it doesn't look like there's a ton of difference between this and the newer model but there are some key differences one of them when you feel it you can just feel right off the bat that it doesn't feel as heavy and a solid as the newer one number one feels really tight really solid really heavy it's just it's just a nicer feeling bracelet if that makes sense let's look at some of the differences so these have some of these have solid some of these have hollow end links it depends on the year and the exact variant you get but they all have hollow Center links which i think is a big difference I think that adds to a lot of the weight and feel of the newer one being heavier and more solid is they have solid Center links throughout and this one has the hollow Center links this one has the folded metal clasp with the safety catch and it has the fold-out divers extension so when you're gonna put on your wetsuit you want the divers extension you open the clasp push it underneath and the divers extension folds out back and now you have your extension it works well it can be a little bit finicky at times and there's not a ton of room for adjustment you know your extension is your extension kind of is what it is it comes out and that's what you get there's not a lot of room for adjustment there but it's there and it works well and it fits nice and it's clean alright let's compare this to the newer model which there's quite a few differences on here we have the current model the one one six six one oh and like I said before it this one just feels heavier it feels more solid a lot of that I think is attributed to the saw solid centre links this one also has solid end links and it's just there's more metal in the bracelet it feels heavier and honestly it feels really great this one's been updated and it got the oyster lock clasp you have the safety open it up and pop it open and it works really well it's really clean it's really sharp the fit and finish is beautiful it holds really nice and it opens really easily I mean it's a great design by Rolex and I think this is a big improvement on the previous model another big improvement on this model is the dive extension which is the glide lock system so moister has improved it you open it up rather than the flip out you pull the bracelet down and you just slide it out and unlike the flip system this one's adjustable if I flip it over you can probably see see the teeth in there so you you pull it down and then you move it out a little bit a lot you can kind of choose so there's that adjustability which i think is really nice so if you have a different size wetsuit a different thickness wetsuit you know you can fine-tune it until you get the perfect fit also it serves as a really nice micro adjustment you had a big dinner or something and you need a little bit more room you have micro adjustments all along the way both of these watches have the Rolex 31 35 caliber same specs 48-hour power reserve there is a slight difference the newer one one six six 100 is updated with the Rolex blue pair chrome hair spring and it's a more durable hair spring it's a little bit more accurate aside from that improvement it's the same movement and same specs between both of the watches all right while we're talking about workings let's touch on the crown so the Crown's on both of these watches are essentially the same they look the same aesthetically the same they both have the trip lock crown the newer one is designed a little bit different Rolex designed it to make it a little bit more beefy even though it doesn't really affect performance but essentially the same crown on both of these watches we talked about the new watch it does come at a premium this one's going to be about $2,000 more than the previous version we have
