hi i'm troy with wines pines and canines right behind me is a rockwood geopro 19 fbs it's one of the most popular couples campers on the road today we've owned it about a year and a half there's a lot we like about this camper there's a few things we don't really care for today we're going to go over it we're going to tell you all about it let's get started okay we are inside the 19 fbs now so we're going to show you some of the things that we like we don't like and uh the changes that we've made in here so let's do a quick video tour okay so this is coming in had the fridge microwave uh the bathroom have the couch cabinets overhead at the bed to the back tv and cabinet and the kitchen area this is where we've made a lot of our changes and we have the bathroom which once again there's actually quite a few changes in here as well we've been camping about three years pretty aggressively we got into this like everybody else we went on youtube saw these wonderful devices we literally bought every thing we could find but truth of the matter is after three years a lot of these things we just don't use a lot of these things that we're using now we're using because they actually work for us and they may not work for everyone particularly this is not a commercial for dewalt by any stretch but i use dewalt because this particular 4 amp hour battery will push this little fan that we use at night if it's just cool enough that you want to operate without air conditioning and you want to have a nice airy feeling we use this fan this battery will run this fan almost all night this leaf blower takes the same type battery and i can use it to blow the leaves off this the leaves off the slide out before we leave in the morning i can use it to blow the leaves off the concrete pad at our full hookup sites really nice it makes it easy this particular light goes right in and i use this if i've got to operate at night maybe i've got to change the tire maybe i have to set up in the dark this light's very versatile and i use it for that this particular ryobi inflator we just had around the house and these cold these rv tires generally run at 50 pounds this guy will inflate all the tires in my truck in a pinch and the rv off one or two of these 18 volt batteries okay some of the biggest changes that we have made in this camper are this kitchen area a lot changed for such square small square footage first thing did a little countertop extension so this here bought two brackets off of amazon fairly straightforward we screwed them in we did put some wood behind here just to have something substantial for the screws to uh go into i had a tray at the house so that's what i used here i've thought about doing another type of countertop but so far this is working out pretty well and the fact that we can put dishes here um as we're getting ready i don't have to worry about anything sliding off here you can still get in and out of the door and the fridge can still open and get into so that is the first big thing i did the next thing are the little baskets that are hanging some people are using command strips we actually put these in with screws they are about maybe three quarters of an inch and we usually put some loctite or some silicone around the screw and on the back of these before we attach it we have probably traveled close to 8 000 miles in this camper and these have yet to move or come off the wall we do not travel with things in a no other than what you see here um a lot of paper towel holder off of amazon it's magnetic super strong do take it down for travel but works really well here and then the biggest change we made to the kitchen was this was in the first month i think was getting rid of that tiny little sink that was in there the new models that just came out have a sink similar to this but the older models i think this camper first came out in 17 or 18 so up until uh the 2021 you're gonna have the smaller sink so this was purchased off of amazon i'm not sure if this sink is still available but one of the things i do want to give a shout out to is the facebook page that we belong to called the rockwood and flagstaff owners and then the flagstaff and rockwood owners there's two they are fantastic so much help on those facebook sites they are for um geopro and epro owners and if you ever have a question or a problem modification there was always somebody on there to help big shout out suggest you join if you're thinking of buying one of these or you already have one so the sink wasn't too bad it did fit into the original hole it's just that the original sink was about this big and then it had like a blank plate where the faucet was in so this kind of slid into that hole did have to make some minor adjustments to the abs plastic if you're comfortable with plumbing and comfortable working with it you really shouldn't have a problem one thing though was did have to cut out the back of this drawer a little bit to allow the plumbing to come through because it did have to drop down because this is i believe 10 inches deep as opposed to i think the old sink was five or six inches deep um so another thing that we did on these drawers this is one of the things that we don't like either um the guides they were fine on our short trips but we got back from a 6 000 mile trip out west and both of these drawers the guys just fell off there was nothing really holding them into these drawers the bottoms were so thin so we cut some half inch plywood put them in the bottom and drilled the guides back into that and haven't had a problem since we did build this little organizer in here as well that fits this that came with the camper exactly i have enough room exactly to put the thing so nothing moves during travel so really like this part and then the bottom i just usually use light stuff household things towels trash bags things like that in here um above it's pretty much we use plastic don't use a lot of glass so in here i just get containers and organize it based on what i use that makes it a lot easier one thing with the stove so again screws they used very short little screws they were going into this which is very thin it's not solid wood so they were constantly falling out we were constantly falling finding screws on the floor so we did beef it up with some bigger screws uh reached in here under here and tried to get in some wood that we could screw in as well so that's one of the things just kind of look out for um i did add this bar actually this came from home depot just to hang a towel on and we do not have the stove option we have a convection microwave so under here there is a ton of storage do have the instant pot and just another random things pots pans one thing i do bring with us on longer trips is i have a ninja airfryer convection oven and um it is it is great it fits exactly on the little shelf outside allows us to cook brown things pizza stuff like that under here just use this for this this broom is great it's a camko and it fully extends out you can just twist and fall and so this works really well for us it just slides in here we also have a little vacuum i believe i'm charging it at the house at the moment that fits under here as well one of the things we really like about the rockwood geopro 19fps is the amount of storage that we have side to side in the very front of the camper where i'm looking from right now is directly underneath the bed and we keep a lot of stuff in here i have a full-size truck that allows me storage but it's really nice to have this much storage inside the front of your camper on a 20-foot trailer that's quite a benefit okay these steps love hate relationship with them troy loves them they're super sturdy me got a few issues so let's talk about it number one is when you are lifting this up if you are not super careful and keep this door fully open you will hit the edge right here and ding up your door the other thing is you need to make sure that when you go to shut your door that these legs are down otherwise you're going to ding your door again and the last thing is if you have to move the trailer we had to move it a short distance we weren't packed to go anywhere so i wasn't thinking the fridge was not fully shut it swung open and nicked the side on here so steps very sturdy great item but you just have to be aware of the few things that can ding up your inside okay we are now in the bedroom area um so here is the little closet underneath the tv now a lot of people have put shelves in here again on that rockwood facebook page there are a ton of ideas of different storage items we actually like the fact that we can bring some hanging clothes um everybody camps differently we do like to go sometimes out to a nice outdoor dinner because of the dog or to wineries things like that so i'm usually bringing a few things that need to hang other people that's not how they camp so they don't really need the hanging storage and they've gone to all shelves whatever works for you um so i do like this here i found um on i believe amazon um it just holds every all the little stuff and um doesn't get in way of the clothes hanging these here were again an idea from the rockwood facebook page um i found these at walmart they just kind of sit in here a little velcro on the back and they give lots of places i can put pasta canned goods things like that when we're traveling somebody obviously sees something they want um so next is the bedroom the actual bed area oh one thing we did here too is i put this little shelf in here works really well for all those campground maps or any paperwork that you need to bring we just slide it right in here so we always know where it is our particular camper has a vent van over the stove area the vent fan is designed to obviously evacuate hot air out of your camper one of the things people forget about sometimes right up in here these little tabs you've got to release them to open up the vent if not the machine is working but you're not doing anything with it so it's important and also at night if you're trying to keep it reasonably warm in the camera you might want to shut these something i have forgotten myself and i'm just passing it on to you these are not just for show these little three dollar walmart pool noodles are really integral to making sure that you don't come out of your camper at night and you guessed it they protect you they're cheap they're inexpensive if you lose them you're not feeling bad about it on this camper we also have a propane quick connect we use this quick connect and the hoses that we've since sourced out on our black stone grille and our little fire pit that we use at our campsite so this is queen but what we did was made it into a king now we did uh the first time i'm going to show you the how we did it for our first trips we've since kind of tweaked it a little bit and if you want even more advanced once again that rockwood facebook page there's some other people that have taken this to an even bigger level than we did um so what there is is there is a piece of plywood under here it's got little finger holes in it and just kind of pull it out and on here we just put the couch cushions and the bed cushions and it just kind of extends out we've had no problem in the 8 000 miles that we've been in this camper um with pillows falling down have yet to kick them off but that's like i said on the facebook page some people have done it to where it kind of has a guard to where the pillows can't fall off we actually our last trip we did not use this method we used our new footstools and i'll get to that in a second okay so on to the living room area so when we bought this the couch the first few times we sat on it seemed fairly comfortable the more that we lived in this camper the more kind of uncomfortable the couch got so we did three things to make it work for us and these are jackknife sofas so usually this part of the couch it's not as deep as a couch you would find at your house so when we sat on it we were finding with the cushions behind us and the couch we were automatically kind of tilted forward just was not comfortable for a long time watching um tv so what we did was somebody's gonna go for a ride is underneath here we unscrewed the little bar and we put in some washers under this and now it raised it uh about three quarters of an inch but now what happens is you tilt back into the cushions so now when we sit on it we're automatically leaning back however the cushions were still super super puffy so these two on the end what i did was underneath here there is a zipper and inside is a little bag of the stuffing so i pulled this out cut a little hole pulled out quite a bit of the stuffing and just duct taped it back put it back in zipped it up and now when we sit in it you can tell this one if you look really closely you know what you're looking for you can tell this one is a little less full than the middle one same for that one but now when you sit on it you feel like you are coming backwards so the third thing we did to make it more comfortable was build these custom foot stools so a lot of people and we had one for a while too you can get those collapsible storage ottomans on amazon which are really great um the only thing is they're only about 15 inches high 16 maybe and i wanted something that would be the height of the couch so when you sat on it once again kind of tilts you back makes you feel a little bit more like a couch at home so these here were built out of half inch plywood just some trim pieces but what we really like is the fact lots of storage uh inside got a wine box sits in there just fine then when you go to eat you can use these we can put them between us put the food on it you can also take them put them on your lap eat with no problem these take the place of the big table that was behind here that we just weren't really fond of you were always having to pull it out put it back in it was in the way just didn't like it so we love this option um so a few other things that we have done in here too with the bed we have done this little side table which was made just from some plywood pieces the little black basket acts as a handle to pull it open and there's inside storage and then we cut a little bit like three inch hole maybe two and a half inch hole at the top there and dropped in a little cup insert and that way you can have a glass of water or a bottle at night all right on our particular camper we found that the stabilizers that came with this unit really weren't the highest quality they just didn't work very well even with it fully integrated once you set up your camp we had a lot of movement in the camper so much so that we decided to upgrade we chose these easy lift models off amazon i believe like everything else they're twice as good easily as the ones that came with the camper all right about once a year you should always check on this um this is the water heater for our unit it's located underneath the bed in the 19 fps rockwood geopro we put these little guards on here to keep wasps from getting in i think we lost one in wyoming unfortunately but these are really helpful to keep wasps and hornets from setting up nests inside this cavity it's really easy to get into you just drop this cover down this is the outside of your water heater first things first you got to release the pressure on this valve right here because this is still a pressurized system i think i've already done this so i'm pretty certain a lot of water is not going to come out but there should be a minor release of pressure let's see you let that go for a minute and you're going to let all the pressure off your tank because what you're going to find out what we're after is the zinc anode rod that's installed at the bottom of your heater it's designed to corrode and what it's designed to do is take the corrosion that would be occurring inside your water heater transfers that electrolysis process to the zinc anode rod ever so often you replace the rod you save your water heater this particular one i believe is uh inch in an eighth six point socket we're going to crack this guy loose i'm going to pull it out real quick and i'm going to show you in one year's time how much corrosion has happened in our camper now when i pull this out a lot of water is in the in the tank it's going to come with it okay so i'm probably going to have to jump out of the way just in a quick second you might want to all right here we go oh right now that's one year of corrosion inside that zinc anode that's occurred but you haven't received any corrosion inside your water heater in a year's time that's the trade-off all right we are now located at the grain black tank discharge location on the rear of our trailer this particular metal is feeble and weak and a lot of people have discussed having problems with this little clip breaking consequently there'd be no real support for this part of our camper and if it breaks off you've got a problem so what i've done and this wasn't my idea we found this on facebook pages and youtube videos people have taken a muffler bracket that you would find in a commercial vehicle perhaps take a u-joint i mean a u-bolt i'm sorry fit it around 9 16 bolts to the frame and all of a sudden you've got this system fully supported okay so i want to talk a little bit about how we kind of put these together and what all products i used these were just pillow covers same as these here that i bought off of amazon inside is i think an 18 by 18 foam insert that i just cut down and then i wrapped some batting around it and basically they just sit in here but they match really well so i'm very happy with them and they're comfy the coloring actually this is paint we took a little piece hold on we took a little piece off of the back of this uh down here took it down to sherman williams had them color match the paint and so that's what we painted to that um i haven't decided whether i like the white body or whether i should go all brown so if you have an opinion leave it down below in the comments and let me know and i'll decide from there so somebody here it wants to show you the other great thing that we did with these one of the things we were finding is that we were always stumbling over the water bowl and knocking it over there's not a lot of floor space so troy came up with this it's on little glides comes out and you have the water bowl somebody knows to go ahead and hit this when he wants water and that is what he's doing now because it is not full so let me go ahead and fill that up with him and i will be right back [Music] okay so this is the what we've been using now for the bed on our last trip which actually works out a little bit better um you can actually open this door now if you have to get in here because that's where we keep our coffee in the mornings um so basically i pull these push these up to the end of the bed put a couple of pillows on it and then we use a couple of extra bed pillows to go on the top here and has worked fine it may not work for everybody but works well for us again there's just so many ways you can make this work but we would never go back to the queen it was it's one thing a queen bed at home but up against that wall it was just very difficult so we love the king and this is the setup we use the last thing about the couch and this is one of the other things we don't really like it's back to those little screws is this piece under here i kept finding little screws everywhere couldn't figure out what it was and what it was were the way this was attached underneath here they were just falling out so what we did is actually we got some hinges put the hinges on the back here we put a little piece of wood can't really tell from here but a little piece of wood to the back of this panel and attach the hinge now we can hinge it and you have not a lot of storage under here but enough enough that you can we usually put like extra shoes or waters things like that once we get settled another thing that troy did too is he went ahead and spray foamed around this wheel well because we were finding so much cold air coming in from here hi we love this camper we've traveled i think a thousand miles we've been out west we've been all over there's a lot of good things about this camper this is the one thing about this camper that i think is a tragic flaw and should have been picked up in engineering and a lot of people i suspect are gonna find out they're gonna have a similar situation you might notice that here and here we've removed the grab bar off this camper the reason for that is number one we don't need it number two it has a problem when it's fully installed like this and you can you lift this bar and it slides over or it slides this way depending on what you want to do if it happens to be slid this way you have a problem because if you extend your awning and not realize that this guy is sitting here it can get caught up in this bar and if it's not if you don't catch it in time there are people that have reported that their entire awning has ripped off their camper once you break this gel coat in this azdel siding you have a problem that you're really not going to recover from very well it's not going to be fixed easily so for the moment you make sure that it doesn't happen we've removed it completely when we go to sell the camper when that day comes i'll i wouldn't already bought a new one this guy here from linda hand i think we've purchased it on amazon we'll install a brand new one because you can see what happened to this it takes just a second and really i've never seen a camper designed like this it took one at one experience and me realizing what was fixing to happen before we solved this problem by removing it okay so we haven't done a lot to the bathroom but we've done a few things to try to make it a little bit better for us um we have these hooks for the towels they're just um command hooks uh worked really well we put those up right after we got it so a year and a half it's gone through winter or summer haven't come down another basket that we have here i just use it basically for towels they are put in again with screws shorter screws with the silicone then we also changed out the shower faucet this is an oxygenics fury works really well we really really like it compared to the original one that was here super simple to install except for the screws they didn't line up exactly so we just put the other screw back in put some a little bit of white silicone around it to um so no water could get down there the shower miser which is this little thing right here we haven't actually used that yet um we don't do a lot of boondocking so we don't really need to use it uh what it's for is to recirculate the water while you're waiting for the shower to get warmer so if you're using it on full hookups it ends up actually filling up your fresh water tank and can overflow it so i recommend only using that if you're boonduck the other big thing we did is get rid of the white shower curtain i wasn't uh super fond of it it always seemed to just look dirty and it just felt crowded in the shower so i found this on amazon at amazon it's 65 inches long so it just hangs inside the shower and then the one outside is 72 inches long so it does kind of graze the floor but it was a little prettier now the hooks up top i call these things little trucks uh basically these are the ikea kevartel system uh they don't sell it anymore but i believe you can still get these little things on ebay i had some at the house actually so i needed i think about five and um a full shower curtain what then hangs up here so you can see that and up above you can see i've just put a little bit of reflectix with the little refrigerator or cabinet bars and i do that so the light doesn't come in when it's in storage to keep everything from yellowing um down below really haven't done too much there's a basket there that's actually not attached i just bring it down when we travel basically i just like the look of it one thing i do want to talk about though and this goes back to any modification that you're doing in your camper always take your own measurements don't trust somebody else's and the reason is if you look here i've got about two and a half inches between the cabinet and the shower other people have four to five inches enough to actually slide an organizer in there so don't trust somebody's else's measurements because i don't think it's exact from camper to camper and then the last thing we do in the bathroom which i really like is this cabinet here once again off of amazon these are just a little fabric baskets and they work really well for just storing bathroom items in and most of the time i leave it in the shower and then when we travel it actually fits exactly in front of this cabinet here and i just put a towel around it to keep it from banging up against the wall and it works really well like right here when i'm getting ready in the shower just gives me a little bit extra of room okay and over here we actually changed out this thermometer uh back from the little black one that was here that was a sliding you couldn't ever really tell what the true temperature was it um just kind of gave you a range drove me crazy so this one here tells us what temperature it is inside here right now which right now is 65 and then we can set this for the furnace to come on at whatever temperature we want so it's just much easier much nicer this does not control the ac um the old one didn't either this only controls the heat but works really well it was a easy upgrade took troy maybe 5-10 minutes and about 35 i think um then we also changed out one of these so far this is actually on a dimmer pretty much uh replaced easily covered the whole what was here before it does now get brighter dims you can turn it on off and it still works with the main panel so this just is much nicer troy hates the bright lights and even though you can isolate and turn on and off individual ones he just likes one that he can dim at night uh then we also added these little hooks which are really nice for keys dog leashes whatever you know coming in and out okay the last thing i want to talk about is the inverter so this model um comes with a thousand watt inverter which runs off the solar panel and the inverter it is down here the on off switch now if you're on shore power you always want to make sure this is off if you are boondocking and you need to use the outlets you want to turn it on which the low grain light would come on if you do not need to use the outlets we don't recommend turning the inverter on even if you're boondocking because it will draw down your solar now this is a thousand watt inverter so you need to be careful of whatever you plug into the outlets or is less than a thousand watts or you're going to trip the inverter and if you trip the inverter you're going to want to come into in this model into behind this panel and you can see we cut a little hole because we didn't want to have to take this panel on and off and it's got a little red arrow just reach in there and you hit that switch and it resets the inverter every model has a different place for the inverter so you just want to figure out where yours is uh now when we're not uh boondocking we don't need the inverter what we do is we're at the campground we're on shore power and the inverter is off we can run over a thousand watts but you still have to be careful we have five appliances that are about 1 500 watts that would be a coffee pot electric heater the instant pot the airfryer and a hair dryer so i can run all five of those individually but if i try to run two at a time you're going to trip this inverter so even if you're on shore power the inverter is off and all of a sudden you're finding your electric outlets aren't working check the inverter see if it needs to be reset um it could also be a gfi plug which we have one in the bathroom and you may have tripped the breaker at the panels that's another place to look but you need to be careful on the number of appliances you're actually running inside your camper and sometimes it's just trial and error i am not an electrician these are just things i have learned from doing too much so just something to be aware of so um that's pretty much all for right now we are doing some other modifications maybe in the future and so we'll circle back with another video if so but let's head outside and we'll go ahead and wrap up hey how long have we had this camper about a year and a half wow 8 000 miles we've gone we've been out to yellowstone we've been to tee time we've been down through missouri we've seen a lot of america and we've gone a lot of trips in north carolina south carolina virginia and tennessee absolutely so you know one of the things i like about this trailer it has some misgivings okay it's not a mammoth trailer it's not huge it doesn't have a master bedroom it doesn't have three slides one thing is that one thing that it does very well is that you can hitch up to it easy and you can pull it down the highway easy you've got a weight distribution hitch it doesn't sway it doesn't move considering it only has a single axle it actually backs up fairly easily you just have to go easy and slow there's a lot of things i like about it it's a trailer some screws have gone flying but the major components work pretty well yeah i mean i i don't think we've had that much trouble with it like i said we've had it for about a year and a half now everything's worked inside we use the wi-fi ranger every time we go to a campground we have um use the antenna the tv the fridge my only complaint about the fridge is actually gets a little too cold so i'm kind of looking to see if there's something on my end that i need to do to adjust that we've tried the convection microwave that cooks fine yup the solar panel we don't do a lot of boondocking but we do do harvest hosts and we've had no trouble with it you know holding up through the night uh typically we you know try not to use too many lights and but we run the lights we run the tv we'll charge our phones um obviously you're not running the ac or the microwave off of your solar panel but everybody everything else pretty much i haven't had any trouble with and i think the one time that we went completely off grid we ran the lights the television and everything in our battery only went down to what seventy seventy percent or so yeah yeah so um most of my living occurs outside the trailer we always camp in nice places we enjoy what we do so we set up outside that's where we do most of our cooking and i love a campfire so and with that regard this camper works well for us we've had larger campers we've had more expensive campers this is a streamed streamlined easy to own easy to operate option exactly the camper we had before was a class c and we're going to actually do a video at some point comparing kind of our experience and plasty versus our experience in a travel trailer uh one of the big things is we love having our truck uh with us we didn't have that with the classy and we just if we want to go off-roading or we want to go someplace that we are not comfortable taking a rental car we can do that in our truck um and it is i mean it's it's 20 feet and that includes the front part i think the inside is really about 17 feet it's not a massive camper i mean you yeah i wouldn't classify the bathroom as well spacious luxurious generous exactly um but it's a couple's camper if i mean if you have a kid or a couple kids i really look at their bunk house um models because you want some place that the kids kind of call their own here they'd be sleeping on the sofa there's and there's no space that is the child so this is really like i said a couple's camper we have made it work for us we have done the modifications we're happy with it and at the moment we're not really looking to upgrade um down the road um well no matter we're always looking for something else no matter what we own no matter what we buy we're going to modify it yes that's it foregone concludes we do love messing with it we do love to tinker one of the things that makes this trailer and i forgot to mention it earlier are these tires uh they've got an aggressive tread they're not especially noisy by the way when you pull it but one of the things that does make it easy for is i can come in and out of a rest area a pilot of buckies for instance whatever it is i can get in and i can get out my trailer sits nice and high that's helpful to me when you're dealing with pavement discrepancies and trying to get fuel and also i can get this trailer in just about any gas station in america it's easy you just have to go slow you have to plan your attack you have to look at the gas station and decide wow look at those cars look at those people do i want to do this the answer may be no but if it's open to almost every single gas station i can get this guy in get it done and move on and i can do it pretty well pretty fast so in summary the things that we don't like about this camper the things that we wish rockwood would maybe take a look at is one thing is like that handlebar uh that troy talked about luckily when we did it he noticed it like right off and it only cut the foam a little bit um but that that that is definitely a design if you have questions about what i described in that handrail situation you know the reason i bring it up is because i don't want anybody to make this mistake and you know you put a lot of effort and a lot of money into buying these things that you enjoy i want it to be a positive experience for everybody that does it this one here could turn a nice experience and a first-time owner of a camper into a real negative experience i don't want to see that for anybody exactly and this is a lightweight camper i mean this thing weighs about 30 100 pounds and to keep it lightweight the materials inside i mean they're not going to be solid plywood and there's just i wish that they could maybe um do things a little differently with the screws they could find a middle ground exactly where you didn't have to come back and kind of modify but anybody that is going to buy a camper one thing you need to be is somewhat handy you do not want to be dragging this thing down to a dealer because a blind fell off or drawer guide fell off you will you will just be super frustrated with the experience so for the most part we have been happy with it there's a few things that we talked about that we wish you know rockwood would kind of look at but overall um been very happy with this camper and um i think uh we're gonna see about another uh definitely 8 000 miles in our future so um tune in to our next videos uh we do um have some videos about our trip down to greenville we spent three days in the mountains and we're going to be doing
