Many historians argue that BC-AD dating should have replaced with BR-AR (before Riverdance / After Riverdance) after the airing of this performance..
I made my First Holy Communion on that same day and the only memory I have of the day is watching Riverdance that night during the Eurovision intermission.
Although we often romanticise historic moments, Riverdance actually was something special at the time. For a country that had struggled for so many centuries and lagged far behind the rest of Europe, it was one of the earliest glimmers of a confident Ireland emerging both figuratively and literally on a world stage.
I went and saw Riverdance live in the 90s, it was awesome. Also remember that a lot of people didn't like Flatley's replacement for whatever reason.

My grandma had a tape of Riverdance when I was a kid. That's actually what got me into Irish dancing. Was a competitive dancer for nearly a decade before I had to quit due to medical issues. God I miss it, it was so much fun.
Watching this video is oddly entertaining and I even feel being educated by reading the subtitles.
I was kind of disappointed by the crowd not giving a standing ovation right away, but I’m still satisfied.

As an American, I want to encourage all other Americans to watch Eurovision at some point. It's truly entertaining. I had the exquisite pleasure of witnessing it while visiting Scotland a few years back. It's really really enjoyable to watch something so popular outside of America.
Thanks for sharing! I remember my older sisters and their friends were obsessed with River Dance and Lord of the dance. I kind of agree with Chandler... Michael Flatly's legs seem to have a mind of their own.
