Ripping Through "I'm a Star" from Disney's Wish

so after I made my autopsy of a bad line video about Disney's song I'm a star several people asked me about discussing more lines from that song and I also realized that there don't seem to be any videos analyzing this song as a whole the closest is a video by brainless Mastermind but that's a compilation video of multiple songs so I finally decided to oblige my commenters and go through every line in this travesty of a song so we can rip them all apart together let's [Music] go this is actually a pretty decent opening line there is a thematic issue here but we'll come back to it [Music] later two lines in and we already have a problem on our hands the word eloquent this word is defined as fluent or persuasive in speaking or writing given that its primary definition involves words it's rather odd to say that someone dances eloquently I suppose this could work if you're implying that the flowers are conveying some sort of message with their dance but this just seems an odd way of expressing that since it's not something we would normally say they would have been better off using the word elegant in instead since it intuitively makes more sense turns was probably not the best word here maybe forms I'm just nitpicking [Music] here in general it's best to avoid extremely long words in poetry as it has the tendency to make the lyrics Sound clunky and awkward but this is still okay [Music] okay this is actually pretty solid the first verse of this song actually holds up pretty well but don't worry the pain is [Music] coming um who uses question marks in this context I get what it's saying and you could maybe argue this is poetic license but it just sounds weird and like the sort of thing a seven-year-old might [Music] write okay sure in your scars sounds rather odd we would normally say at your scars but whatever you're AAR [Music] meaning well that's great you going to explain oh boy I'll be honest I don't generally mind modern words like yeah or okay in an ancient setting if the story has a very light tone like a kids movie or a ya novel or something but shareholder basically counts as business jargon and definitely does not belong here whoever voiced the turtle deserves a Grammy for pulling that off but what is up with this line nebula are actually referred to as star nurseries and we're supposedly Stars so are we nurseries in a nursery we're our own Nursery that's bizarre and what supernovas who are what created the nebula after all supernovas come from dying stars are you saying life comes from Death a very intriguing concept but it goes nowhere here the wise out of mystery I only feel more mystified not less and why do we keep sticking odd words at the end of lines it just sounds weird [Music] weird I thought we were stars we're being exposed to ourselves and exposure seems like too scientific a term to fit with a pop [Music] song it seems they're trying to channel Mufasa's morning lesson here when we die our bodies become the grass and the antelope eat the grass and so we are all connected in the great circle of life I have to say though that the order of phrases in this line is off it makes it sound like the leaves are eating or rather absorbing sunlight after we eat them don't the leaves absorb the sun before we eat them do leaves in our stomach still absorb sunlight from still continuing The Lion King reference I see I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away Pumba with you everything's guess but this line in no way follows from the previous one we eat leaves that absorb sunlight so our farts are stars too the song just keeps getting weirder and [Music] weirder no [Music] kidding understand what what are they telling me nothing so your dust is my dust fantastic I think the main problem with this song is that I can't tell how much of it is literal and how much I'm supposed to take as [Music] metaphor another example of the Thematic issue with the song that I'll get to [Music] later I actually quite like this line but there's a problem here we'll come back to I have already made a whole video about the atrocity that is this line and I refuse to subject myself to it again I'll link the video in the description moving on I've listened to this song multiple times and it still has not sunk in because there's nothing [Music] here okay we have finally reached the point where the song is actually going in circles because of how illogical it is what in the world is this supposed to mean you quite literally cannot be your own origin story you cannot bring yourself into existence to be honest it's so stupid I'm not even sure how to deal with this whole situation anymore recall that I said that there was a problem with the work of art line earlier a work of art suggests an artist because art doesn't make itself so who's the artist here a painting can't paint itself even if you throw random splashes of paint on a canvas you're still the one choosing to throw it and where to throw it I think this line was trying to say we each decide Our Own Story which would be an interesting premise to discuss but this line is too poorly worded to convey that idea properly [Music] well you're definitely explaining it poorly but somehow I don't think the little star plushy is going to help given that he's mute the only thing you revealed is how out of touch Disney execs [Music] are if we are all each other's counterparts doesn't that mean magnifico is to doesn't every villain also have this so-called star power as well just something to think [Music] about do I even need to explain the problem here we've just butchered basic verb conjugation for the sake of the rhyme scheme what gets me about this line though is it would have been incredibly easy to fix you could just say here we are and problem solved but they actually actually could have kept the line completely the same if they had just had a young child character say it when little kids mess up grammar it can come across as cute but when adults do it it just sounds stupid maybe the message here is even the dumbest person can make their dreams come true but that just seems rather insulting [Music] wait that's it that can't be it hello we're not done here remember when I said that the very first line had a thematic problem well here it is the question that the first line asks never gets answered after all the song points out numerous times that it's all around and not too far everyone's a star including you right so why do we look up at the sky then why does Asen need Stars help if she's a star herself it's just as much a Myster at the end of the song as it was at the beginning well that's a wrap thanks for watching God bless
