We're here at Rio del Lago 100 in Folsom, California,
and race is about to start. Anyway, it's going to be an exciting day,
a lot of runners. So yeah, we'll see how this goes. Thank you for being here. Thanks for being here. No problem. [Volunteer] How are we doing, do you need anything?
[Wes] I'd like some water, please? [Volunteer] Nice and easy, right? Steady. [Wes] Yes, that's the plan.
[Volunteer] All right. [Wes] The plan was not good running this fast. Thanks very much, volunteers. Appreciate you. Well, we're at 12-something miles into Rio del Lago, and the first, about eleven, were on paved bike paths. Now we're finally done some single tracks. It's kind of nice
to be running on the trails. So far this morning is going great. The weather's fantastic. Temperature couldn't be better. And oh, That was my watch just beeped-- 13 miles. This is cool. All right, well,
I just left the Beals Point aid station Let's see, about mile 21.5. I got about 4.5 miles
to the next aid station. Everything feels all right,
even if I am going fast. We'll just keep going
as long as we can keep the pace up run comfortably. So it's a beautiful morning,
that's for sure. one thing about this course is that it's really well marked. There's flour on the ground with arrows, markers hanging from trees. Really easy
to follow this course, for sure. So apparently this was a beach and due to the drought in the low lake, there's really not much of a beach now. The lake's quite a ways down. All right. All right. I think we have just a couple more miles to go until the Horseshoe Bar aid station I'm at mile
30.7 right now, so we're getting close. [Volunteer] Water? I will want some. I will want some. I'm at mile 32, I just left the Horseshoe Bar aid station. I got about a little less than three miles to the next one I think I'm slowing down. Starting to feel tired. I'm trying to remember to keep my attitude up. Nice work! My stomach's not feeling
very good all of a sudden. All right, well, I'm at the mile 35.4. I just left the Rattlesnake Bar station a little bit ago I was trying to walk
and eat my way out of there, and my stomach all of a sudden
started to feel pretty rotten. Alright we're at mile 41 and we're on the climb cardiac hill. It's pretty steep. I think I'm feeling
a little bit more energy after the low spot earlier. My spirits are a bit higher. So just get to the top of this climb and the next aid station, Making good progress. All right, well, it's raining lightly on us now. Feels good.
To be honest. The temperatures today have been fantastic anyway. It's only been in the upper fifties, I think. So it's been great. This rain feels nice. Oh, all right, well, I'm leaving the Overlook aid station feeling awful. I mean, I guess that's
probably an exaggeration. I just don't feel great. I thought I was going to vomit,
but it didn't. So that's either good or bad. I'm sucking on a ginger chew, to see if that helps. And know. Now we're moving down to the no hands
bridge aid station about four miles away. The rain is still going
a little bit harder, so I put this jacket on. All right,
we just left no hands bridge. I got some broth. Mm hmm. And now we do this loop in the back
part of the course. It's going to take us up to the Auburn Lake Trails Cool fire station
and then back down to here and then we make our way back
the way we came. Well, my watch just beeped and I'm at 50 miles. So that's good. Oh, man, 100 milers are hard. Oh, God. You're all right bro? Yeah. oh. Well, maybe I'll feel better now. I don't think I've ever done
that in a race. Awful. I feel awful. OK. Let's keep moving. All right, well, I'm leaving ALT. Auburn Lake Trails. after sitting down and getting soup and ginger ale. Hopefully, I'll start to feel better. Just got to keep moving. It's getting dark, as you can see. So I got headlamp, that's come on
And my waist lamp So we're now heading to the cool fire station,
about almost ten miles away, almost ten miles away. Okeydoke. And the sun goes down. Now we run through the night. Broth, right? [Volunteer] You masochist son of a bitch.
(Laughter) Hey, have a great race dude. Congrats on your finish. All right, I have left the no hands bridge aid station,
and now I'm climbing up to the Overlook aid station. We are now on the out and back. Everything from here, back to Beals
Point and the finish is all trails. We've done today. everything's just back. It's going to be nice to be done. Oh, my watch just beeped for 89 miles, just left the horseshoe station and they said it's
12 miles of the finish. So 7 miles to Granite Beach and I guess 5 to the finish. Whew! And right behind is Wes Plate, # 295 Go Wes! All right. Yeah. Okay. Rio Del Lago is done under 24 hours,
which amazes me. That was hard. You look at the profile of this course
and you think it might be easy. It lies to you. It's a tough one. It's good, though. It's really beautiful. So thank you NorCalUltras, And thank you, universe. This was a fun one. Great times with great people. Thanks for watching.
