all right so the way Albuquerque works is we're a two-tiered system uh we will respond to the emergency of course but Albuquerque ambulance has a contract to transport so they also show up to the majority of the calls and they transport to the hospital we are transport capable any major call a stabbing shooting a high impact MBA anything that is going to be a load and growth situation we will transport okay and so that happens often we'll do that you know like I said a stabbing shooting something like that if our ambulance service is uh busy or if they're not able to respond quickly if they're not in the area we'll load the patient up we'll scoop and run welcome to Africa Albuquerque fire rescue station 13. this is our home uh it's a multiple at this station uh we run an engine a ladder a squad a Hazmat Squad and a rescue truck at this station we're all Hazmat texts so any major Hazmat event this station will respond to on the east side of the city but we run 48 hour shifts we're on 488 off for 96. this station in general is one of the busiest stations uh in the city last year the station ran just over 13 000 calls engine 13 ran uh believe we were just under 5 000 calls this district is unique in the sense that we have a little bit of everything in this District so that's what makes it fun to work here we have uh commercial we have Thai rice we have residential we have the I-40 Corridor which makes for lots of car accidents car fires on the freeway we also have an Arroyo system that runs through Albuquerque that is unique there's typically people that camp out in the Arroyos are living there that type of thing so in monsoon season comes they'll get swept away and we're hopefully here to to scoop them up we're going to do some Royal training here in about an hour so our guys here are kind of just going through our gear real quick let's take a walk around okay so we'll walk through here again our Hazmat Squad we got our guys here checking our gear ladder so all the trucks have our Swift water gear on it so each individual will have a specific job when we have those types of rescues all right this is a Fun Station to be at it keeps you young keeps you on your toes so here is where was our setup Point as you can see we have three different areas Each truck is assigned we go through this through training we do several trainings throughout the year to get this so we're proficient at this right now we'll just send a lookout which was normally the squad captain we usually go to around where that bridge area is located that way we can have clear side of you if a victim is spotted it gives these guys enough time to get ready so we're gonna send one of our guys up there for training purposes to act as a victim do you want to just go about the middle between those two lines to give these guys a chance my hobbies Joel's Road are you guys ready rescue division Morningside division to command we have a victim spotted he is wearing navy blue shirt with navy blue shorts heading down the Arroyo at this time [Applause] Morningside division command we have this victim rescue this is a like a quick setup for a royal rescue we have a belay set up with an anchor um for myself so that I don't I won't fall in and then just a quick uh repel setup kind of or uh but lay setup I'm sorry for one of The Rescuers so ideally like you saw we want the patient to be able to be swung in with our throw bags and we go in the edge of the Arroyo and pull them out now as Lieutenant brezeline said the way we set up with the Throwbacks we want to use it as a pendulum and get them rotate to the sides where The Rescuers get on them so we encourage our rescues not to jump in the water that way they even become a victim themselves but at times we can see these Waters rise up very fast from half a foot close to five feet and these Waters can reach speeds up to 35 miles per hour so in those cases we can always say knocking in the water but unfortunately sometimes you end up in the water so with this team here working together we're able to swing the victim once rescued onto the shore onto the Savi de Arroyo after that we have different systems we use to get them up the Arroyo now being the fact during Monsters season it's very slick on these sides of the royal so we have a backboard that we have connected top so the throwers once they're done slide that backward down we can get on that backboard and up safely I've heard you have debris that you have to deal with oh absolutely and that's another thing that causes with these with the survivability of these victims that end up in these are the Royals is they have to deal with breathe I mean you can anything from shopping carts to as Lieutenant he'll explain more vehicles that are working in these as you see we just had one drive up and something easy as that can be tipped over and blowing the rest of the water and this time lapse showing just how quickly the north diversion Channel filled up today swelling from bone dry to 12 feet of water in just 30 minutes Albuquerque fire rescue responded to two people who got swept away in an Arroyo near Eubank and I-40 around 3 this afternoon that's station 13 at this Morningside division has the record for most saves and rescues this gentleman here has five to his belt by himself all of them that's a team obviously yeah yeah but in a perfect scenario we would have three stations set up as you can see here unfortunately it doesn't always work that way with calls and stuff if we're out and call there may just be one if we're lucky but in perks know we'll have three set up if not whoever can get here first will sit up first at this station here and work our way down there this is day two of a 48 hour shift so um I think for a lot of the audience watching they're probably thinking a 48 is a tough shift on an engine that runs about 5 000 calls a year it can be long uh it's it's hit and miss I feel like probably just anywhere some shifts were busy and some shifts were quiet and when we're busy it can make for a pretty long shift I go home pretty tired um but I know what we're gonna get here it's it's almost expected to be busy and so last night knock on wood we had a good night we slept all night and so we typically will pay for that on day two but uh a 48-hour shift can can be pretty long when you're running that many many calls so I was talking earlier this is uh the station's a little bit older it's nothing fancy guys but it's ours so we we live here we take pride in it and this is where we have fun and kind of just let loose a little bit nothing too special we got our guys right here Julian that's our chandelier he's been at the station 19 years uh he's he's the guy that we we kind of look to for things he's been here for a long time yeah so we'll just start down here we got our Captain's Quarters here just a normal bunk bathroom he gets his own bathroom up front here is just kind of our computer area it's same same business as any other type of station this is where you'll find the new guys doing there studying and that kind of thing and just staying busy up here our board this is just at the beginning of each shift lets everybody know what truck they're on even though we know because of our assignments but we still put it up there kind of just tradition really saw these pictures here we used to have a guy that would respond to the fires his name was Joe Stone and he would take pictures of the fire so kind of cool here's a fire buff old guy he just had a scanner and he would just show up to the call Sir so we'll go through here this is our our bunks thank you it's just a horseshoe super fancy and nice but uh pipe man and drivers they all have their their bunks and then the officers engine ladder rescue officer right here we have our own room and then our bathrooms are that way I'm sure you probably don't need to see the bathroom sorry sorry good AC back here that's a must we keep it nice and cool when it's 90 some degrees outside oh yeah but this is our rescue guys this is Matt Breeze wine Landon the driver this is our kitchen this is our area where we all get to be together and break bread this is the fun times for us where we all get to tell stories and just laugh at each other and whatever else living room she's got some new couches we're happy about that weight room nothing wild pretty old school rough in here but we all like to get in here and we work out as a crew it's something special for us it kind of builds a bond really for us to all be in here and and stay healthy and work out together we'll work out here and outside also all right [Music] hey past that you can come to myself is rude no mercy mentality your gratitude I'm a Saint Louis Legend with an attitude straight up and down six o'clock homie latitude let the draw bridge down cause I'm coming out walking over the mode no code just the weapons out yo it's hard to be as nice as I am I only got to where I'm at with a goal in a plan witty and unpredictable ain't no telling what Imma do when the situation looking critical set my stage [Applause] [Music] f 330 [Music] engine 13 Delta three fall unconscious foreign [Music] traffic incidents injuries [Music] Northeast and Louisiana Boulevard Northeast engine 138 to help not dangerous body area at 2120 Louisiana Boulevard Northeast [Music] all right so what happened here is we got called out for an assault it ended up just being an individual that was maced uh he initially stated that he did want to go to the hospital after an amount of time he decided he changed his mind and now PD is going to take him to go get his belongings that's it so we're gonna get out of here [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] traffic obviously on the freeway right now it's Rush Hour this is a busy time for us on the interstate what I would prefer to do is call out uh extra rigs so then that way we can have uh scene safety for all of us the ladder holds a presence and people have a tendency to pay attention to that truck more so than a rescue or even the engine and so for me I'm always going to attach the ladder to these types of accidents the idea is so we have these trucks out here to block traffic to slow everybody down push everybody over so then that way it does create a safe scene for us and that's the main thing is so that way we can work safely not worry about people speeding by coming into our scene with traffic and so it's just about going home at the end of the shift it looks like it's going to be a non-injury accident three to four cars involved everybody looks like they're gonna walk away station 13. is the best ciao in the kitchen this is just smoked chicken breasts with like some uh what kind of seasoning was it like some Cajun seasoning like a little bit of spice and then just the veggies but this is peanut butter a little soy sauce little sesame oil a little Sriracha a little bit of honey okay so it's like sweet spicy peanuts goodness peanuts we have peanut peanut goodness YouTube might catch you on that one red flag [Applause] uh [Applause] [Music] I gotta FaceTime from my son he's a eight-year-old little little dude he's my guy and so I just wanted to talk to him real quick he told me that he saved a turtle crossing the street and it's just he's he's my guy so uh chance that I get to answer a FaceTime or phone call or text from him I'm gonna do that but uh you know being away from him and holidays and weekends and whatever else missing sport events it's hard it can be challenging but we all knew what we were getting into and it's a part of it and he understands it now and he uh I think he has a sense of pride in that also elevator malfunctioning 20 years one person stuck in the elevators are you hurt okay we're gonna get you out of there okay foreign [Music] thank you all right guys is deployed right now so we just want to say uh what's up to him let him know that we're thinking about him we miss him here and we want to get him home as soon as possible and just let him know that he's missed so everybody send a shout out to Bubba we miss you miss you brother be safe man [Music] [Music]
