RICK AND MORTY: 28 Best Hidden References You Missed In Season 2

the artists and writers for rick and morty like to include hidden jokes and details so today i'm going to go over some of my favorite ones as we already covered things you might have missed in season 1 here are 28 things you might have missed in rick and morty season 2. the testicle monsters of the episode were directly inspired by stephen king's the langoliers the three-hour tv film is specifically referenced in the dvd commentary and the testicle monster's look is taken from the time-consuming monsters of the langoliers during the scene where rick is beating the crap out of the testicle monster with more and more versions of him beating the monster down as time keeps splitting you can usually track the punches that land that is until there's 32 time splits at this point if you look at each individual scene none of the rick's punches actually connect with the testicle monster and the animations are randomly reused from the previous 16 time fracture beatdown scene while the testicle monsters are traveling through time a rat unknowingly jumps into their time bubble and then accidentally jumps out just as they're traveling over a vast ocean rip poor rat r.i.p [Music] you can spot a mr meeseeks in the background here helping a blips and shit's customer conquer an arcade game and speaking of which that player triumphantly beats the game later on with mr meeseeks disappearing gearhead has a stereotypical mechanics pin-up poster in his shop this one shows queen gear who's holding on to one major ball gear not sexy very sexy the visuals of goodbye moon men resemble a couple of prior animations the first being when morty's skin is peeling off which is near identical to similar scene in the blockhead's music video the music scene [Music] the 80s animation malice in wonderland likely also directly inspired goodbye moon men as you can see in the portion where morty's face flips inside out there's little measurements on the wall rick runs up to with lines 4 pixels 5 pixels and 6 pixels given that these would seem to relate to the thickness of the lines it's likely this is a flub and something the animators accidentally left in that no one caught as rick quickly covers it up when he runs to the window in the rundown section of jerry berry where the jerrys whose ricks and mortys abandoned them or died hang out there's actually a hungry for apple sign referencing jerry's failed campaign from season 1 making this truly the dystopian jerry location the references to m nice chameleons don't stop there though the jerry burris waiting room music sounds suspiciously similar to human music from the season 1 episode and now here's human music human music i like it well look at this fella aren't you handsome thank you i'm jerry oh i know you are the song rick summer and morty are singing at the very beginning of the episode was actually taken from a free rick and morty flash game that was on adultswim.com rick and morty's rushed licensed adventure in the game which is in the style of an adventure game you can find summer's mp3 player which has multiple tracks on it including getschwifty and this song titled connection sadly as flash is no longer supported on web browsers c'est la vie game well it's not always the case with background characters who are receiving less animation in general all of the characters who are being animated and are part of the unity collective all blink at the same time giving a nice visual cue that they're all a collective while jerry is digging through rick's garage he picks up a small frozen creature this is the same creature rick later takes out brings to life and subsequently kills prior to almost offing himself rick throws away a number of green glowing rocks with small purple crystals on them these rocks are the very same rick picked up in episode 2 on the planet where morty destroyed fart this led to fan speculation that perhaps this is what tracked in the parasites of the episode dan harmon acknowledged this theory in the dvd commentary of the episode and stated he had no idea about it until he watched youtube breakdowns of the show and it seems that was entirely unintentional that said they embraced the theory and accepted it as a possibility a number of the weapons here are extremely similar to weapons from the halo franchise there's the sp and kr that rick later uses and an ma5 assault rifle which ends up being beth's choice similar to connection both get schwifty and head bent over were first used on rick and morty's rush license adventure stay with me take off your pants and your panties oh those songs are horrible oh god my ears are bleeding make it stop the thief who's being ascended here is a cartoon version of none other than series co-creator justin roiland and speaking of the ascension festival this isn't a hard one to spot i know it's just a little hard to read depending on how large the screen you're watching it on is so the guy who's being uh ascended here is in trouble for being an inappropriate joke teller kind of gross but on the ground next to ice-t are a bunch of fingernail and or toenail clippings and for anyone who thinks they might be chips later on in the episode you can see some chips on the ground here and the clippings over here the church sign that originally said god is great at the beginning of the episode now reads head is great i mean i guess you can't argue with that while most of the movie posters are pretty obvious here like three brothers and french toasts what you might not have noticed is that it's specifically piece of toast in french toast referencing the snl sketch from season 1's rixty minutes it's saturday night live starring a piece of toast three brothers similarly is likely a sequel to two brothers from the same episode some of the other film posters are for squirts house party 8 full house the movie which looks more like a horror movie and of course flaps which looks like a movie about fat folds apparently the redhead with glasses background character who goes to high school with morty has a twin because in this scene we see two of them in one shot here and here right after jerry's perception of beth is scanned a general screen appears on the scanner on the screen you can spot bill cipher from gravity falls this isn't the first time the show has been referenced as justin royland is friends with gravity falls creator alex hirsch the drawing tiny rick made of himself in his angsty piece titled help me morty and summer is actually a drawing of doc from justin royland's short the real animated adventures of doc and marty as i'm sure most of you already know this short and doc and marty are what would later become rick and morty oh boy doc i can't wait to shoot the first scene from my courtroom drama i'm making it for regular mainstream television that's so fast marty during the jam michael vincent trailer there are a number of quadrants that need him on the map shown of the 16 quadrants shown there are actually two quadrant h's after the lady gaining iced coffee disappears and iced coffee pours onto the ground it actually slowly gets cleaned up throughout the episode later on there's the cuidado piso mojado or caution wet floor sign next to the coffee machine finally by the time steely shows up on interdimensional cable the coffee is fully cleaned up with no caution sign to be found one of the aliens watching interdimensional cable in the background behind the hamster in a butt from hamster and butt world enjoys the personal space lectures so much it's doing the same movement along with the lecture eight personal space nine personal space episode 10 the wedding squatchers and season three's first episode the rickshank redemption were originally intended as a two-parter finale to the season instead the second half was pushed to season 3 and dan harmon wrote this episode look who's purging now to replace it as a filler episode in less than a day the home of the ruling class elite on perch planet is quite literally hearst castle located in san simeon calif uh san simeon purge planet at the very beginning of the episode you can now see a hole in the garage with boards over it referencing the previous episode when summer accidentally sent rick's device through the roof as bird person leaves his conversation with beth and crosses to the right he passes right through a guest in the background's drink the fact that it was cut out this way would mean that the background alien was likely one full layer so drink was put on top and cut out around the hands to appear as if it's in the alien's hand i do this pretty much all the time in photoshop for various videos these were all of my favorite hidden details and references from rick and
