Rhode Island: 1 Day in Providence - Travel Vlog | What to Do, See, & Eat in Providence, RI

[Music] what are we gonna do we're matt and nat a travel couple based out of nashville tennessee after having our world turned upside down in 2020 we decided to set out on our biggest adventure yet to see all 50 states in a year in our last video we were in massachusetts where we explored boston's deep history on the freedom trail discovered the city's parks and green spaces by bike and indulged in the delicious culinary scene of the north end this week we're in the ocean state [Music] welcome to rhode island this is our very first time here in rhode island and we are so excited to take you along to explore with us we're going to be spending the day here in providence which is the state capitol and we've heard nothing but amazing things about it we're going to get our day started with some coffee and breakfast at one of the most popular coffee shops in town [Applause] we're at dave's coffee which after a bunch of research everyone says if you come to providence rhode island you have to come to dave's not only do you just have to come to dave's you have to try the official rhode island state drink coffee milk which from what i understand is essentially if you grew up making chocolate milk by putting hershey's syrup or chocolate syrup and milk this is kind of the same thing they use coffee syrup inside the milk blend it all up and make coffee milk let's try it out it's very sweet which i do not have a problem with it's kind of a it is coffee but it has almost a toffee character to it i can understand why rhode islanders love this drink so much [Music] [Applause] so matt got a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and i got a coffee cake now i do want to say this is my first ever iced chai i don't mind it it's not very sweet but then i tried this and you guys know i don't like coffee like at all and this is sweeter than this and i would drink this over this i never thought in my life i've ever seen that rhode island all right so we just finished coffee and breakfast here at dave's it was so good we highly recommend it even though we do wish their dine in was open currently but maybe by the time you come it will be now we're gonna go explore downtown providence on our scooters so let's go [Music] a rough ride both survived our scooter experience no injuries always a plus it is so now we're gonna do a free historic walking tour if you guys want the details check out our blog the link is in the description we'll have all of the details there [Music] so much like the freedom trail in boston providence has a trail called the independence trail and it's three miles long and takes you all through the city past historical sites and landmarks [Music] we're at this lovely beer garden that's not opened we're just taking advantage of the tables but now i think a big rainstorm is coming which really stinks yeah it does because most of our activities today we're all gonna be outside so we're gonna have to regroup yeah so we're figuring that out currently we'll let you know as soon as we do okay so we pulled an audible and i think that we're gonna have enough time maybe to head to roger williams park and maybe get on a swan boat that's the perfect time to come so the only place that we could hide out was the carousel yeah and we can't go in we can't go in because we're not riding the carousel yeah and that's the only place of shelter that we could find hopefully it stops raining so it's like a beautiful park we would love to explore so please god let it stop raining amen [Music] it's a little wet out there i went to get shots of the swan boats and all i got was them hauling them across the lake because they're close [Music] you win some you lose some today we lost summer [Music] so since it's a torrential downpour the sweet employees let us inside here so we could use the bathroom and not get soaking wet so if y'all are ever here come to the carousel because their employees are awesome [Music] more ubers hello [Music] we have worked up an appetite it is like 3 p.m haven't had lunch because we've been waiting around all day we waited so long for an uber at the park we thought the park was going to be a you know a fun little outing it was crazy so it was an ordeal starving and we are so excited to try this place [Music] so it's still raining a little bit like to the point where it's like a little annoying and i'm gonna be wet but we just finished lunch here at frisky fries and it was good yeah not amazing but it was we probably rated about like a 6.5 and honestly the reason it even got the 0.5 is because the guys working in there were actually really awesome so awesome super helpful um so yeah we do recommend coming here just hopefully the fries would be a little fresher yeah i got two half servings of miss potato head and alley cat the alley cat was very dry very dry but the missed potato head was really good because of the sour cream and i got the clucking hot fries which are topped with buffalo chicken and blue cheese crumbles and dressing so natalie obviously didn't even try those because she wants to throw up at the thought of the cheese he gets that so he doesn't share honestly the blue cheese and the hot sauce were good the chicken was the weakest part of the dish for me it was just a little dry and could have used a little more low it's raining a lot more now okay guys let's go find something we've got to figure out where we're going now our plants have gone to poop we've got like six more hours here y'all and we have no idea how we're gonna make it entertaining we're literally oh my god it's like pouring now what are we gonna do [Music] there's a big cover this is not fun being stranded in a city oh my god so one of the reasons why we picked providence rhode island is it is a walking city yes it's a very walkable city most everything you're going to want to do is within a 10 to 15 minute walk from each other minus a few little things put short we were very much relying on the fact that we could walk most of the places here and this rain is throwing a damper on that yeah so i guess we're just gonna sit here in this little corner until it stops raining wow this is gonna be a very riveting video sorry guys honestly though first impressions of rhode island love it the architecture is awesome no i really yes it's surprising i i 100 agree with you i was really looking forward to getting to go see the state house which we were about to go do and the bottom dropped out again so we might be sitting here in this little uh covered area for the next four or five hours until our train leaves yay [Music] [Music] people are one thousand 000 and i think we're homeless because we're just we kind of are right now so i think we've come up with a plan we wanted to go to a brewery but they don't even open for like another 30 minutes and that's only one of them the rest of them opened later this week and then on top of that we wanted a brewery that had games or something to entertain us yeah for a while four minute walk and it's still raining really hard so i think we're just gonna try and wait as long as we can and then run there the luxurious life of travel vloggers yes we could uber okay we've already ubered a couple times today but it's like 12 each time we do it so we're budget travelers we spent 30 bucks to uber to a park to get soaking wet and turn around and come back yeah so not wasting any more money if we can [Music] so y'all want to know what true love looks like it looks like me letting natalie borrow my backpack rain cover couple things first one is we should have brought rain jackets okay that was the biggest mistake that we made of this trip number two he's been holding out on me this whole time this is his backpack rain cover okay i got it it fits my hair perfectly it's got this drawstring that goes up it pulls tight around her hair all her hair is up in there i'm good to go now let's go man oh my god i
