Revisiting Age Of Sigmar Lore After 5 Years - Is It Finally Good?

g'day guys and girl 40K law is my bread and butter but I actually started this channel off with Warhammer fantasy and one of my most viewed videos was an age of Sigma one well that video was a bit [ __ ] if I'm honest it had a few uh law issues but the core Point remained age of Sigma launch law was jarring unsure of what it wanted to be and overall just like very very mid however in between novel releases stunning new models and a seemingly more consistent tone and style that has emerged is age of Sigma law finally good has a stop to meet riding Warhammer fantasy's nostalgic lore and become its own thing or does it continue to wallow away in mediocrity only been kept Alive by its goddamn sexy ass model releases before we get started would you rather get punched in the face or age of sigma's law to see what state it's currently in not so much deep diving or retelling the law because I'll just [ __ ] it up again but more analyzing its direction if it's improved from its launch and its overall vibe to try and determine if it's worth exploring age of Sigma lore let's get into it foreign stating that age of Sigma law might finally be good that insinuates that it was once [ __ ] which you know it kind of was but that wasn't entirely its own fault see age of Sigma was games workshop's response to the lackluster sales of Warhammer fantasy models you know instead of just updating model ranges and whatnot they decided to blow up fantasy take some of the characters and then plot them into a new setting the end times as they were called were not great characters behave much different to how they previously had decisions were stupid and it was all around just poorly written and quite insulting to the audience so when age of Sigma launched all that negativity surrounding the end times leaked into age of Sigma which continues to plague the setting I mean you've got multiple successful YouTube channels that are still growing just from 40K law yet the one guy who stuck with age of Sigma law in a virtually uncontested market now has a dead channel that wasn't really alive in the first place but let's say we ignore its connection to Fantasy and pretend the end times didn't exist or wasn't total [ __ ] was age sigma's launch law any good I mean it wasn't terrible as a standalone God's walked the battlefield there were multiple interesting Realms and there was a fuckload of backstory that explained how things came to be almost too much backstory but that's okay however the launch was pretty Bare Bones there was the stormcast eternals who were mocked for being basically fantasy Space Marines sigmarines if you will and whilst we were told that all these new cool elves were hanging around none of their models were art or law had been released yet so they were just like a thing I guess however the one thing that really stood out was how much cleaner and seemingly not Grim dark the setting had become the stormcast eternals were Immortal and basically invulnerable being able to respawn every time they died the sephiron slan could make armies with their minds and most egregious of all slanash the Lord of making everything R-rated had been beaten up chained up and hidden effectively removed from the setting it was very much like what the [ __ ] this was a massive contrast to Fantasy in which men lived in suffering fighting and dying for uncaring Gods it had dozens of interesting parallels to our real life and it was super dark I mean sigbald literally raped and ate people that was his Vibe so that was age of Sigma last time I looked at it overall just super mid when I ran out of fantasy videos to make I chose to go balls deep into the anus of 40K law which was just a great [ __ ] call but how is it today well there are some positive things to report many new armies which means a lot of law have been released we've got the dwarf fire Slayers whose code of honor has been Twisted to value gold above all else we have tekless's first attempt at freeing the Elven Souls from slanesh an attempt which created a morally dubious sub race of elves who have extremely [ __ ] quality sperm this was followed up by the successful creation of the Luminous realm Lords who holy [ __ ] yeah those models are [ __ ] delicious I will one day pick up a realm Lord Army and paint them when I feel more confident painting white the daughters of Kane who despite looking like a bunch of witch elves being led by Medusa actually do help out the forces of good here and there what's even better is that GW decided not to go down the path of making everyone cuddly and G-rated hence they added a grim duck caveat to all the factions the stormcast eternals would lose a part of their Humanity memory and soul every time they died making them a lot like the hollow from Dark Souls their immortality and reincarnation was also no longer guaranteed as nagash and his forces of death invented a way to steal their souls the daughters of Kane's existence is a lie Marathi gets them to worship the dead God Kane but channels their power and worship into herself theoretically if she wasn't such a greedy [ __ ] then they could have revived Kane by now however because she is he remains a fragment of what he once was the adonoth deepkin raid innocent people to steal their souls in order to compensate for their own broken Essence no one is perfect however everyone thinks they are right creating some nice moral gray areas most importantly of all svenesh was brought back into the setting Breaking Free of her prison and bringing the Mortal Realms back into the calm Zone another positive that's come recently has been a lot of focus been put into showing that age of Sigma wasn't all just golden demigods smacking super buff skeletons with lightning hammers there is many many Flesh and Blood people who have staked out a living across the Realms showing us what life is like like a normal mortal and the Grim darkness that entails age of Sigma has also started getting their connection to Fantasy right bringing back a references to fan favorites rather than constantly plonking them in the setting yeah sure we have Tyrion nigash teclusion and a few others from the old world however the more recent returns have been done in a smarter way such as the light of alfarion whose Soul was too fragmented to rebuild into a flesh and blood body however Tecla still went out of his way to bring enough of eltharion back together so that he may destroy the forces of darkness in a new form that and his new model [ __ ] slaps in a similar vein godric is back however Felix isn't leading to this tragic tale of a depressed gotchrick who travels the Realms looking for his brother from another mother there is this distinct theme and Vibe of everyone missing something important to them sure there is is now gods and more magic and amazing things but it all feels kind of hollow everyone is anxious the future is scary and uncertain allies are always stabbing each other in the back and seeking to gain an advantage often causing themselves to instead end up [ __ ] on their own food and setting their cause back also Marathi once try to seduce and [ __ ] nagash and in response he [ __ ] slapped the [ __ ] out of her so that was quite funny despite these positives it doesn't even get close to matching the depth and quality of 40K law at least not yet this is an entirely its own fault though it's been pumping out a shitload of Law and World building but it hasn't had the years it really needs to get deeper than a black man in an eagle's clunge right now it's clear that age of Sigma is still building the foundations introducing interesting Concepts and areas without diving too deep into them it's a quantity over quality situation at the moment in regards to the law which is only a bad thing if they never go back and dig deeper if we compare 40K to age of Sigma lore wise 40K will [ __ ] on age of Sigma every time but it's supposed to you were comparing a juggernaut with like 300 novels of lore plus 9 editions of codexes to a new setting which was ripped into existence by the [ __ ] up abortion of fantasy as setting that up until the last few years didn't seem sure what it wanted to be the writing of age of Sigma is finally starting to appear more self-confident and short of its direction and who knows maybe in a few years it'll overtake 40K pretty [ __ ] unlikely but anything is possible I'll now go over a few short bits of age of Sigma law that I thought were pretty fun Etc or at least someone using the namesake of cetra returned as a stormcast Eternal when Manfred the only bold piece of [ __ ] Western Horus encountered him he shut the bed only Breaking Free of his fear-induced hesitation when he realized that if it was the real Setra he would already have been dead another moment that made me chuckle is a realistic take on the dangers of having the Warhammer equivalent of mignonia and throwing it around too much Sigma Chucks his Warhammer and archaeon a Warhammer that contains a lot of his power Thor style however tit snitches like la AML and puts a portal in the way meaning Sigma just threw a chunk of his power into the cosmic bin meaning he had to bust his [ __ ] balls sending his warriors on a heroic quest to eventually reclaim it all because of his desire to be like Chris Hemsworth the sephiron basically the lizard men who are now infused with the essence of the stars are very powerful and can [ __ ] with chaos and pretty badass entertaining ways one of those ways is their ability to intercept realm portals and the like meaning sometimes a chaos Potter will open the forces of audible prepare to protect themselves only for a mutilated mortally wounded chaos Warrior to stumble out and die in front of them the saffron are kinda like the harlequins in this aspect tackle is [ __ ] up really badly during his first attempt at freeing the Elven Souls from slanesh was a bit of a gag basically he could sense something was wrong with them like their time when slanish had tainted their souls so instead of creating a soul cleansing ritual or giving them free therapy to treat their PTSD he instead come blasted them with a ray of burning light that's seared into their souls causing them to run away as he quickly tried to to genocide them yeah good work teclas you're [ __ ] [ __ ] dad of the Year Award right there although I haven't gone balls deep myself yet pretty much any 40K fan I've heard of that picks up one of the better age of Sigma books ends up falling
