Review: THE SICILY SLEEPER - ITALY'S MOST BEAUTIFUL TRAIN RIDE!

no today i'll be taking the sicily sleeper train which goes all the way from milan to sicily and the unique thing about this train is it actually goes on a ferry it's the last remaining train in largest railway station in europe by volume it was officially opened and replaced by the old one in 1931. it took roughly 20 years to build this gigantic palace and it's still considered as one of the most beautiful stations in europe every day about 300 000 passengers pass through the station using about 500 trains and today i was one of them i mean look at that that's absolutely stunning so one thing you will notice here at the central station is the huge military presence outside and inside the train station and i used to have a history teacher back in germany growing up and he said we sicily so and here we are welcome inside my little home for the next 21 hours this is the sicily sleeper and i had to run because i thought we'd leave at 9 00 p.m but we leave 10 past eight so i'm sprinting that's why my hat is is a bit red um and i'm totally exhausted but it looks very lovely it's my first impression here a single mattress but it's pretty nice pretty spacious better than any business class seat i've experienced a big mirror right here and i also have a sink and here i can put like my toothpicks and toiletries and all that kind of stuff um there is a ladder here probably i can put like my luggage up there and later more storage space power outlet very important for like a 20 21 hour ride and then there's a reading light here um some bedding as well and yeah it's it's cozy it's it's spacious it's actually really really lovely there's also bin and then of course i have a beautiful view here as well the sun is about to set i'm sure gonna have a lovely sleep tonight after that sprint oh my goodness i was quite i was quite tough i felt like i'm gonna miss the train that would've been that would have been awful an absolute disaster but yeah also here i have a little cup holder here so i also hope we get some more water because i was literally sprinting to the hotel i left my luggage at the hotel in order like to go and shoot a little bit already and now i'm totally dehydrated oh my god i'm not in form anymore i used to run marathons every year i know and now like i i barely barely able to sprint 100 meters so if you're a personal coach and you want something it may be i was like oh what smells so weird in this cabin now i realized i was walking around in my stinky socks all day so they got like really smelly oh yeah they just checked the tickets this train by the way was only 90 euros which i think is a good deal for a cabin like this absolutely loving it so uh get your passport ready in case he knocks the door he also removed the ladder and now there's not going to be any checks so i can lock the door for safety always be safe lock the door well now can i i can do whatever i want i can like take my clothes off i can run around naked i can do handstands i can do the helicopter whatever i want or whatever you're into of course i'm just gonna chill sleep and probably maybe watch a movie or edit i'll probably be editing so you guys can watch a video [Music] oh my god and this is why i love so much about train travel when you have like a nice flat bed or your own cabin you can just lie here you can like listen to the sound of like the train hitting the track that's just amazing this is what traveling is all about and that's what i needed so badly after five months in lockdown [Music] [Music] so [Music] there's no water what's this guys a beautiful good morning here from the south of italy olive trees everywhere a sea view mountain view scenery is just stunning i didn't sleep that much to be honest it was quite it was pretty bumpy i think that's something you gotta learn i mean i took so many night trains back in the days when i traveled to ukraine or when i traveled russia so i'm no stranger to traveling by time probably maybe i was too excited i don't know what it was um yeah there's no water also like the water is not working at the tap so i had to waste my last resources i had here say two three tips that's what i have left the highlight of the day is we're going on a ferry with the entire train can you believe it gonna be amazing [Music] [Music] it's like really really beautiful driving along the coast um pretty scenic now let's go and check out the train i was going to say that like for the last 20 minutes but there's so many tunnels on this on the third here there we are in another tunnel because earlier there was a coffee machine here and yeah all the toilets are closed because they're broken for whatever reason oh yeah it's like throwing me around here that's beautiful i mean there's already some fairies over there that don't think i don't think we're there yet i don't think we are at the place where the fairy i don't know i think messina could be i think the action starts very soon [Music] let's see what's going to happen well we'll figure out very soon and there is a vending machine over there and i have no water anymore i'd like to go actually there and get some water but i'm also afraid that the train is going to leave about me that's enough would be can you imagine that all my stuff in here and i'll be standing out there with nothing but my camera and a bottle of water and a train leaves [Music] [Music] so now just being loaded on the ferry swallowing us so i think this guy right there he's in charge on yeah it's been taking a while now but here we go see i'm going inside the ferry oh my god this is so exciting there we are inside the ferry it's really hot in here like because the air conditioning is off while they been loading us into this boat and yeah i really hope we can leave though the train i have no idea because i actually want to get get a nice view from up there it's really hot i need something refreshing so this is the train loaded onto the ferry and uh let's see can i make my i'm gonna make my way up here onto the main deck so yeah what you see right there is the train on the ferry and now we're setting off to sicily so as you can see it's actually just a short hop from mainland italy to sicily it probably just takes like 15-20 minutes and then the same procedure loading the train off and continue for another three hours to palamo [Music] so there's also a little cafe here on uh the ferry which is very refreshing because there was no restaurant on the train so we're gonna get a coffee and there's a working air conditioning here as well [Music] two euro for cappuccino it's not too bad yeah how do i feel it's been quite a trip you know like the the thing that annoys me the most is that there's no running water and i fee i feel really disgusting i feel sweaty and and a little uncomfortable um but yeah this is actually quite nice right now it's a little break from from the from the train journey because the the air conditioning isn't as strong on the on the train inside the cabin i also left my back in the cabin likes all my clothes and stuff not feeling 100 good about it but because i heard paul got his got his back stolen but fortunately there was only like laundry in there yeah but it's a fun it's a fun adventure i mean the views i mean look at this [Music] the views are the views are incredible yeah we're not having running water yeah well see there's a lot of people in this world who don't actually have access to like branding water or clean water for instance as well i always appreciate things when you don't have them hey yeah and now there's a guy a topless guy right there racing us yeah he's probably like 65 she's probably like 28 a typical italian couple and yeah there you go now you know he's going to show off now he's accelerating look at this now he's giving everything yay i'm sure he feels great about himself now he won the race against a fairy all right guys i'm gonna finish my coffee and then i'm gonna get it back i'm gonna get back on the cabin and probably it's probably gonna take another hour to like unload the train from the ferry yeah this is like particularly annoying because during that time the air conditioning is not functioning wow let me also try and get some water from somewhere [Music] i'm back in my sauna still four hours to go all right i'll call you back later [Music] but now it's been 20 hours on this train i think i'm at the point where i had enough though the views here are amazing it's very lovely but like looking at the sea for like 10 hours is also like wearing off at some point it's beautiful i remember this trip reminds me how beautiful italy actually is yes one more hour to go then it's time to say ciao to this uh wonderful cabin but let me show you the other seats on this train as well so let's go [Music] so this is what like the shared sleepers look like so during the day you can sit here and then you can turn this into a bat as well as those two ones here as well a little cheaper and it feels like the air conditioning here is much more nicer but yeah it's not too bad not too bad [Music] so we are almost there and i remember 2011 i took a sleeper train from saint petersburg to bulgograd in russia and it was 36 hours and back then i told myself no i'm not gonna do that ever again well yeah here we are done it i'm so proud of myself now you're gonna go and find my airbnb right in the heart of the city i was told and then i'll probably have a shower oh my god we're here ahead of saturn hello just found my airbnb there's no lifts in those old italian houses [Applause] [Music] here we are at my beautiful airbnb so i have like an eight day stick a staycation where like pick up on work and feel like home eventually even cook probably like editing the video up there and this should be it that was my very adventurous 21 hour uh journey on the sicily sleeper train was very fun especially with the ferry a very cozy just gets very hot in the cabin that was the only thing yeah and then the toilet wasn't working and we were out of water um but we were in time we were even ahead of time and it was a lovely experience we do with somebody else it's probably even more fun um but yeah like 21 hours is like at the at the maximum you can uh you can do i guess but that was it that was something else but yeah let me know in
