doing a review on it I expressed in my last video how excited I was to see it but one thing I also left out of that review though did state another review it's how long this movie took to make and how badly many fans wanted to see it this movies been in limbo for over a decade and fans were petitioning like mad during that time to get Nickelodeon to make this movie so that cliffhanger from the journal could finally be resolved and the show could actually feel like it got a good send-off but not only that this movie success could also lead to the show being rebooted for a sixth season which would focus around Arlen his classmates in sixth grade so nan does this movie need to be a proper send-off it might also need to be good enough to result in the revival of the series so I guess the biggest question is is this movie that good well let's take a look at it so the movie starts off with a nice nostalgic callback to the journal but with a little hint of parents they fused in with it and I gotta say seeing this after all this time is one of the best feelings in the worlds [Music] the key to finally finding my missing parents oh god what was that did did I just squee I swear I've never squeezed before that's that's kind of embarrassing anyway like in the journal it opens with arnold dreaming about finding his parents only for them to end up leaving again but this one definitely has a more unsettling feel to it which I think it's because Arnold that's a lot more distraught by them leaving again Arnold wakes up and tells grandpa voiced again by dan Castellaneta about his dream and the movie welcomes all these great boardinghouse characters back in a well pretty interesting way oh it's better than a nightmare I keep having live in a rundown old boardinghouse renting my rooms to a bunch of weirdos Gramps what's for breakfast imagine that it's a living nightmare well best thing first grandpa is still grandpa it doesn't feel like a thing has changed with him which is great because grandpa is in my opinion the funniest Nickelodeon character ever so I wouldn't want him to change but one slight complaint I have is that the boardinghouse characters are acting a little overly a soulish don't get me wrong each of them certainly had their moments but I never viewed any of them except for maybe Oscar as such big-ass was that they would throw plates at grandpa just because they're hungry but honestly like I said that's a very very minor complaint and these characters aren't focused on that much in this movie so it's easy to overlook their behavior and it's not too far off to where it's a major distraction or anything Arnold goes to meet up with jail a bats there's a bat living there now he's there really taking that nobody notices Lucy joke from the loud house from you hi seong-jin she's moved in with Arnold and no one's noticed actually that would be a pretty interesting crossover though then again those animation differences would be very distracting Arnold and Gerald start walking to school and Gerald Stacy's excited for it because it's the last day of the year and they run into Helga whose dad Big Bob is still in the beeper business yeah how's that going in general Bob nobody wants beepers anymore ever heard of cell phones well no surprise there and for the record it's such a great feeling seeing all these characters again even though they've been slightly updated their designs still have that great Hey Arnold feel to them but more importantly this scene lets us see most of the new voice cast now all the characters that were voiced by adults all remain the same I can't think of one character who has a different voice actor and if any of them are voiced by different adults then good god I could not even tell but the harder part is finding a new cast of kid actors to replace the old kid actors but here the casting seems to be pretty spot-on the kid they got to play Arnold to me seems like one of the better voice actors they've had for now and now Arnold's had like six different voice actors so that's kind of saying something and fun facts one of those voice actors went on to play Wolfgang so technically that means Wolfgang is a grown-up Arnold's hey ladies if you're still wondering why there's no nice guys left anymore it's because they all stopped being nice guys the second they get into middle school also the kid playing gerald sounds pretty great too he's got a very gerald like charmed air though it does kind of sound like Gerald went through a what's the word D Hubert advised it kind of sounds like his balls went back up this is not a game for the weak or impatient today's the last day of school therefore about my calculations it's the best day and the rest of the PS 118 students all seem to have very fitting voices to them - I can't think of a single voice that felt out of place or like it didn't match the character so it's an overall excellent voice cast anyway mr. Simmons reveals that there's a humanitarian contest going on and the class can win a trip to San Lorenzo the place where Arnold's parents disappeared so Arnold and general volunteer to work on the project for the class so they can get that field trip but their attempt unfortunately goes wrong and Arnold walks away feeling deflated when he runs into Helga nobody confides how he's feeling about his parents to her she tries in her own way to comfort him before Abner ruins the moment so Alva decides to help on a win the contest all right now good how you gonna do that I'm actually really excited to see this [Music] what on God's green earth so Helda has a secret room dedicated to Arnold where she's taped literally everything he's done throughout the series that's um well I think that's confirmation that we'll be seeing a lot of miss bliss in the near future at least I hope so Phoebe to help her out with the makeshift Arnold signal that she shines in the sky okay um clever Omar you know but bows that line how they said earlier in channel Bob nobody wants beepers anymore ever heard of cell phones yeah well view clearly happens I mean wasn't a cell phone be a little bit more inconspicuous than that's they also enlist Gerald to help who like Phoebe is pretty chill about the fact that Helga has all this footage of Arnold's and they decided to put all this footage together to show how much of a true humanitarian Arnold is and all the good he's done and jokes aside this is actually a really nice loving recap of the whole series as everyone gets involved with telling their story about how great Arnold is Dino spumoni coach Wittenberg Duke kid and help me escape the cage of my old rooftop habitat ah he's alive thank God literally everyone possible is here except for maybe lockjaw which is probably for the best I mean I don't think you'd want footage of dad at it in hey I think he's starting to trust us oh that's right I don't even save that dumb turtle oh yard how could God footage of that - yeah I don't think you'd want that in the video hello good that was a crime I mean hello security guard was eaten by a shark during that I just I don't think you want to add something like that in for a humanitarian contest stated for a PETA contest they'll make him their new king for that so the video ends up winning which means the whole class gets to go to San Lorenzo hello Arnold is being interviewed for the news it's revealed that something sinister is waiting for him it's the Sombra yeah that's not a spoiler it's kind of obviously Sombra was gonna be the main villain of this movie I mean he was pretty brushed over in the journal yet still inches to be so evil that it'd be a shame if they didn't use him as the bad guy well actually the Sombra does mean the shadow so I guess it would have made sense if they just you know left him in the shadows grandpa tells Arnold he's got to fill out his passport identification and has to use his full name meaning we finally get to find out Arnold's last name oh well that makes a lot of sense actually anyway grandpa makes Arnold promise not to look for his parents because he doesn't want Arnold disappearing like they did and the whole class gets ready to leave for San Lorenzo and say goodbye to their loved ones and Olga ends up tagging along with them much to help us dismay while Big Bob tells over to be careful and totally blows off Helga and then he has hope it took a bag full of beepers to San Lorenzo with her to try and sell and honestly Big Bob and Miriam's behavior in this movie was also pretty hard to stomach I mean yeah they usually care more about Olga that's usually how it goes but there's actually a scene in this movie where Miriam forgets Helga's name and Big Bob has to remind her of it which feels a bit too overly uncaring for Miriam she's usually the one who acts more attentive to Helga and definitely acts more caring towards her than Big Bob does but luckily like the boardinghouse characters they're not in this movie for long so it's easier to overlook anyway grand fans of smuggling Abner onto the plane for Arnold and when they land Arnold and Gerald along with Abner go to find Eduardo Cardinals parents best friends but they finds his place has been ransacked and Abner finds a picture of Eduardo with Arnold's parents has had Eduardo head ripped off but Arnold in general don't notice this and decide to leave and the movie then cuts the shot to San Lorenzo which for the record is filled with quite a few Easter eggs in fact the movie has a lottery stir eggs and the San Lorenzo parade you got the jolly Ollie man mr. win a monkey man and wait is that Jeff from American Dad to him hey Lorne is really leaving these crossover ideas as open as possible huh also when Arnold and Joan are discussing their projects you can see Chloe from jail versus Jaime oh talking to that one rich kid who likes to say terribly yeah there's so many it's actually really amazing you can actually make a game out of all these Easter eggs the class goes to a boat that supposed to take them on a tour of the rainforest and the boat is seemingly captained by none other than Eduardo Eduardo could it be yeah well clearly it's not Eduardo as it wouldn't really make sense to trash his house and then show him perfectly fine two minutes later so it's kind of obvious that this is la sombra but I don't think this movie is trying to trick you if you've seen the journal not only is it kind of easy to guess that this is what Sombra but it's also easy to guess that he wants to use Arnold to get back the secret treasure his parents stole back from him the movie also shows some pretty comedic moments with the classmates some of which like Eugene having an allergic reaction for example play other roles as the movie progresses and Arnold starts talking with Eduardo and yes I'm gonna call him Eduardo for now so doesn't get confusing about his parents and about them stealing back the secret treasure called the Corazon from the Sombra and Eduardo tells Arnold that he'll help him look for his parents which Arnold agrees to despite his promise to Grandpa an imminent plan to look for the green eyes as their best source to find his parents and even gives Arnold a necklace that belonged to the green eyes and the necklace actually glows when Arnold comes into possession of it which even at guardo says he's never seen before and it wardo makes Arnold promise not to tell anyone about their conversation Gerald realizes Arnold is hiding something from him and instantly gets angry with him well he'll gut decides to finally tell Arnold how she feels about him which Arnold doesn't respond well to at all causing Helga to finally snap Jesus Christ woman since Arnold doesn't return her feelings Helga rips up her picture of him and throws it along with her locket into the river which brainie notices and decides to retrieve for her damn brainy you were just as crazy as hell Garen - and it's not just brainy Abner also jumps overboard after Arnold ignores his warning of Eduardo well about ends up attacking their boat and Eduardo and his crew fight off the crew of the other boats and they escape by going down very dangerous waters that Arnold still doesn't know that Eduardo Isla Sombra in disguise he believes the crew that attacked them was la sombra which means the song broad now knows that Arnold is in San Lorenzo and the boat ends up crashing resulting in them having to hike to the camp he set up for them which actually leads to some pretty humorous hiking moments with the PS 118 characters when they arrived at the camp though the Sombra finally reveals himself and imprisons them and he also reveals that the contest was set up by him so he could learn Arnold to San Lorenzo and he also tells the whole class about his and Arnold's discussion causing all of them to hate him Arnold Sadie so you weren't actually helping this jamoke I know it why didn't you just tell me you've gone Benedict Arnold yeah this is probably my biggest issue with this movie these characters should have known Arnold would never willingly put them in danger not the fact that they believe he was being selfish and wasn't thinking of them actually goes against that whole video they put together for him they all should know him very well and honestly this whole turn feels kinda pointless because they all seem to forgive him instantly without him actually doing anything to get their forgiveness so yeah this whole thing was very pointless to me and it feels like it only serves to pad in the time out of its and since he's already revealed himself I guess I'll talked about how I feel about la sombra now I freaking love this guy I think he's a great villain first of all he's a legitimate evil mastermind some of the things he thinks up are really sinister but he's also hilarious he has some of the funniest lines in this movie does this dump get Wi-Fi yes but I'm not giving you the password you monster how did you guess go change it to the other password he's a really entertaining bad guy and I'm glad they didn't make him nothing but a stark generic villain like the movie he was also worth the wait in my opinion Helga hears Arnold crying over his parents in the next telling them that all he wanted was to see them again and she instantly feels bad about ditching him in her locket but brainy reveals that he was able to retrieve the locket for her Elka talks to Gerald and Phoebe about helping Arnold find the green-eyed people and they set up a plan to distract the guards to free Arnold's and the plan is actually pretty interesting and entertaining to watch as it utilizes all the classmates most definable characteristics in a very clever and very creative way see you on the other side oh so many fan fictions just came true right there Arnold figures out that the necklace the Sombra gave him is able to unlock secrets that were hidden in the map in Arnold's dad's journal and they used these secrets to avoid booby traps that were set up by the green eyes before finally stumbling upon the green eyes secret village and while back at the camp but slumber reveals he put a tracker in Arnold and actually wanted them to escape but they could lead him to the green eyes hidden city and he could find the corazon and during this Phoebe sends out an SOS to Big Bob and miriam and Abner ends up appearing at the boarding house to get Grandma and Grandpa to help arnold out and yeah I don't even know what to make of this to be honest I mean they show a laughter got there and all but it's still very confusing also I don't recall aventure being this smart I mean I always remembered him being very doglike so this whole thing just feels very over-the-top for me but on the plus side it does show us what looks like a cartoon version of Craig Bartlett so that's pretty cool the Sombra sets out to find Arnold with the small crew and each of them come across the green ice booby traps and yeah I basically have to talk about this now I talked about how dark hey Arnold can get at times I mean ghost bride is easily hey Arnold's darkest episode as it focuses around a bride who killed her ex-fiance mr. before killing herself so Hey Arnold isn't afraid to go a little overboard and they do so here as the sambar gets his entire crew killed just to get through these booby traps what you first Jesus Christ you nut job though I can't help a question this one scene right here good luck coming back the way we came experiment okay you all were looking right at him you didn't see him squeeze around the corner like that you know what you all did yourselves in consider this a lesson to why when dealing with killer booby traps you should always pay attention but now comes one scene I've been waiting for for a very long time the reveal of the green eyes it's them it's the green eyes huh they're smaller than I expected and a lot more childlike in fact they look more like The Lost Boys from Peter Pan wow that was kind of a weak payoff actually there's a reason they're all children which I will get to later and the child leader of the green eye shows Arnold some Stone Temple paintings depicting Arnold's parents running out of the cure for the sleeping sickness and how it would be Arnold who for the record is called the child of the volcano oh nice even worked in Arnold's badass bird story there would be the one to cure every one of the sleeping sickness using the Corazon but la sombra appears resilient II put a tracker in the green eyes artifact see I told you he was an evil mastermind but Samba tries to steal the Corazon but the green eyed children and Arnold steal it back soulless ambra takes Arnold hostage by threatening to slit his throat damn this movie is not pulling any punches is it the summer takes Arnold over a rocky bridge as Helga and Gerald give chase but they end up picking the exact wrong time to do so as the bridge ends up giving out and leaves them hanging so the Sun Brett's house Arnold's hoping the Corazon and he'll allow Arnold to save his friends so Arnold does so we're filling the golden heart inside the Corazon but apparently the Corazon also senses the sombras wickedness because it shoots him with the poison dart and the Sombra falls off the cliff [Applause] I want to unsee that good god this movies third act is just one big body bag filler isn't it Otto tries to save his friends but he ends up losing his balance and starts hanging from the bridge with Helga and Gerald and he and Helga share a pretty well-done intimate look before the three are fortunately saved this time by the Rio Eduardo Eduardo your parents trusted friend with a moustache I've heard that before why should we trust him you are welcome to climb back down Eduardo reveals he's been following Arnold for some time since he arrived in San Lorenzo and it was actually him who was attacking the slumbrous bow in order to save Arnold and his classmates and oh boy Eduardo I must say your timing couldn't have been better I mean for you to show up at the very last second to save everyone and also for Arnold to be totally incapable of saving his friends I mean these three of dodge debts so much in one day that even the final destination Grim Reaper would be saying it by now and turns out it's not just these three who were constantly dodging death the Sombra despite the fact that he should have been falling for at least two minutes somehow gets a hold of Eduardo zero and he's able to pull himself up despite no one holding on to the rope or at the Rope being tied down and being poisoned on top of that and he still has enough fight to try and get that Corazon just this guy actually a God how did you guess okay in all seriousness this is a show where a fully grown man is able to be lifted off the ground by pigeons and not only that they're able to fly him all the way to France so honestly this doesn't seem too far-fetched for the show anyway the somber ends up knocking the corazon off the cliff all the zooming Arnold chances to cure the sleeping sickness and as the song buzz is about to throw Arnold off the cliff the poison finally does him in and he falls off the cliff again he died the way he lived full of poison [Applause] now one question remains how the hell do they get back to the temple um I prefer the stone bridge myself well alright then okay that's a bad cop-outs but overall I do really like that scene too but I do have a minor complaint with it and that's that I feel it went on just a bit too long this whole scene could have been shortened up very easily I felt they could have shortened it up by at least two or three minutes and they could have put those remaining minutes towards the last few minutes of the movie because trust me no fan would have been opposed to the last twenty minutes of this movie getting a little extra time added to them they get back to the temple where eduardo communicates with the leader and they revealed that they know where Arnold's parents are turns out they as well as all the other three nice kids parents we're all affected by the sleeping sickness yeah I guess it doesn't have any effect on children and Arnold's parents have been asleep for the last nine years and they're still not dead yet he'll Milo's his hair hasn't even grown in all that time yet they're still getting gray hair in all right now fairness this tribes technology is pretty boss I mean they design rocks that glow and give in to a chosen one and treasures that can apparently sense wickedness so for all I know maybe that temple there in has some kind of mystic abilities keeping them alive that would also explain how these kids have been able to raise themselves assuming their parents have been asleep for about as long as Arnold's has but still some explanation for this would be nice this is what I mean when I say the extra time spent on the last scene could have been put to great use for this part of the movie anyway hell that puts together that Arnold needed to put the golden heart into this key like hole in the middle of the temple in order to cure everyone and I don't realize is that's because his parents designed a machine with the Cure in it in order to cure everyone at once but without the hearts they can't cure everyone but how good reveals that there is still a way to activate the machine with her locket of Arnold and that's an ingenious implication that locket has been around since the start of the series and has even gotten an episode centered around it and now the movie is implying that this locket is actually the key to saving Arnold's parents little things like that is one of the biggest reasons I love the writing of the show and the locket ends up working and cheers everyone and what is honestly one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen from a Nickelodeon movie that is just awesome that's such a well executed scene and it's followed by another well executed scene where Arnold is finally reunited with his parents [Music] Arnold I love that reunion I think it was handled with the dignity it deserved yeah Alan made it feels a bit brief at all but it's clearly not trying to tell you how happy they are to be reunited it's trying to show you and it does that flawlessly the pretty night celebrate Arnold saving everyone and Arnold decides to talk to Hal guy about his own feelings for her saying he's always had that thought that held the could like him which actually was hinted once before in the episode married where Helga actually almost confesses her love for Arnold in his dream and the movie ingeniously implies that now alga practically from the start of the series was the one destined to reunite Arnold with his parents and that also shows that held and Arnold's really were destined to be together which is actually kind of chilling when you realize all of that and the moments every single Hey Arnold Finn has been waiting for finally happens Arnold and Helga finally kiss [Music] okay let me rephrase that Arnold finally kisses Helga first [Music] and that's the end of the movie Arnold's parents are finally back Joe and Phoebe are now dating as I assume are Arnold and Helga and the movie ends with one final well-executed scene we'll be waiting right here [Music] and that was hey on with the jungle movie and to answer the question I asked at the beginning is it really that good well honestly yeah it is in fact it might be the greatest thing from this whole series yeah it's got its flaws don't get me wrong there are a few things that felt kind of unnecessary and there is a scene or two that goes on a bit too long when other scenes could have benefited a bit more from those wasted minutes but the thing is none of those flaws are really major at least not in the way they could have been this movie's purpose is to give hey Ahnold the ending it deserved and that was exactly what it did it gave us a great adventure it gave us some nice dark moments it revealed how minor things we never put much thought into ended up being major components throughout the series and highlighted the pros of this show perfectly it gave us one of the best Nickelodeon villains at Birth and it gave us tons of deep moments like the moments that made us respect the show as we got older well I don't expect this movie to hit a homerun with everyone who's watched it I do expect it to be considered a potential send-off to the show that every Hey Arnold fan would be happy with and I say potential send-off because as I stated earlier there is a chance this show could be rebooted and given a 6 season based off the success of this movie and I'd be totally ok with seeing a season of this show dealing with Arnold and Helga as a couple and Arnold and his parents catching up on the past decade but if that season doesn't come to fruition then I'm still perfectly fine with this being the true ending - hey Arnold and I couldn't think of a better thing to have reviewed before getting into my favorite types of reviews Christmas reviews thanks to this movie I'm feeling ecstatic and I'm in one of the best moves I've ever been in so thank you all for watching and I'll see you in my first Christmas special of 2017
