okay so in today's retroarch setup guide we are looking at the awesome Citra core within retroarch so in this setup guide I'm going to be showing you how to import your 3DS games into retroarch how to upscale the video settings to around 4K and Beyond also taking a look at some save and load State functions and Advising you which type of file extensions you need for 3DS so there's plenty to learn in this retroarch setup guide so if you want your 3DS collection looking as good is this what you can see right now check this one [Music] out okay then before I start today's retro Arch and 3DS setup guide if you like what you see today make sure you hit notification subscribe and like it really helps my channel a lot plus it gets you up toate retro emulation content as I upload it which is daily so we're using the latest retro Arch from Windows for this setup guide so what we're going to do first is just head into the Retro Arch application itself and I'm using the portable version of this if you're wondering how to use the portable version of retro watch then I did a setup guide on this the other day so first of all we're going to go into the main menu of retroarch and if we go down to online updater we need to download a core now if you're a little bit unsure what a core is they're pretty much many emulators for retro watch which are exclusive to Retro and under core downloader you'll find all the cores that are supported for the PC version of retro watch so what we're actually looking for then is the Nintendo 3DS Citra emulator and here it is so there's actually two of these but I'm going to download the 3DS Citra not the 2018 version so if we download that we'll notice there's now a hashtag on the end of it and that just means that we've now installed or downloaded the core itself and everything else is empty as this is a fresh new copy of retro watch so if we come out of the online updator the next thing I suggest doing is going down to update installed cores and what we're going to do next is actually import a 3DS game so on my desktop I've got a folder named games and I'm going to import this into Retro Arch so I'm going to just go down to import content and then go to manual scan content directory now because my game is on my hard drive my C drive it's there and if you've got another Drive showing up that will literally mean that you've maybe got a USB device Plugged In which I have but as we know C drive is the main Drive of my laptop computer so C drive and then it's going to be down to users and then the name of your computer my name of my computer is Jamie and then I'm going to scroll down the desktop because that's where my 3DS game is located and just here we've got games and that's where my 3DS game is now let me just make you aware that the F extension for this that is best used is the dot 3DS follow extension so what I'm going to do do scan this directory and as we can see content directory now has a location and if I press page up on my keyboard it's going to take us right to the bottom let's go to start scan scan complete and if we go to the bottom now we can now see that folder is now been imported and here is my game and if I go into my game what I'm going to do is just recommend that you set core Association so say you've got several different cores every time you run your game it's going to ask you to run it with a particular core and if you've got lots of cores that's going to be a bit annoying so by going to set core Association you can set a specific core they don't have to put up with selecting a core every time and seeming that 3DS literally has a couple War cores let's just select Citra coret Nintendo 3DS so we're going to go into the game and then it's simply just a case sub running it [Music] Sega now once you've imported your game and you downloaded your core what I am going to suggest doing is just go into main menu online updator and let's just update everything so if we scroll down we're going to update core info files update assets update controller [Music] profiles and we're going to update cheats update databases update overlays and update shaders now once everything's updated and extracted if we go back into the main menu of retroarch we're going to go to configuration file and just go down to save current configuration but obviously before saving it just ensure that everything has been downloaded and extracted so once everything's finished it's stat and just go to save current configuration the reason I suggest saving is that from time to time retro Arch is a little bit forgetful and it won't save okay next up we're going to take a look at video settings to improve video settings and in some cases with some 3DS games we can even Force to upscale games to 4K so we're going to load up the game again so games Sonic Lost [Applause] World okay so once we load up game now it's a good chance to take a look at some video settings so from the quick menu which you can access through retro watch whil you're play the game we're going to go down to core options and from here if you just scroll down we're going to find screen layout positioning so as default this is is showing what you can see on screen now top bottom screen if we go into this we got a few different options so sa for example single screen only if we come out and back into the game so [Music] resume [Music] so as you can see we got a full screen but it's very pixelated when you enlarge it so what we're going to do is go back down the core options again and we can now take a look at the resolution scale factor so it's on one times native right now by default I'm going to put this up to four times and if I come back out and back back into the game [Music] again and as you can see that pixelation is now gone so we're going to go back down to core options again and if we continue down to resolution scale factor I'm going to attempt to bunt this up to seven times and just be aware if you've got a computer which is more like a potato you're probably best off steaking to one times native and in some cases even higher end computers or even higher end gaming computers can probably struggle with going higher up on these so I'm going to just check out seven times and back out and back into the game [Music] again [Music] and as we can see that looks amazing another option to look at here is texture filter type it's on none currently but we can apply a different texture filter to bring out Textures in the game so let's go to scale force and check this one out and back into the game quick menu [Music] resume so as you can see there's a slight difference there but it really is a question of going to core options and just playing around with texture filter types now of course on 3DS there's particular games you might need both screens for so in this case having a single screen only is a little bit useless so remember to go to screen layout positioning and maybe swapping it around very briefly until you get past a part on your game where you need to second screen so side by side for [Music] example woohoo and there you go so next up what we're going to do is look at save states so obviously just like any other system 3DS games are going to save automatically just like it's a real 3DS console but we can actually save and load States here so let's just say for example I what I save the game at this point where I am right now so I'm going to hit save states and under State slot you're going to see around a thousand different state slots so I'm going to choose State slot zero go to S [Music] State and back to quick menu and to load that state it's just simply go into load [Music] state [Applause] so that's it for today's retro watch and 3DS setup guys so this is bit of a continuation video from a couple of days ago when I put a community post up asking if my audience would prefer a launchbox setup guide or a retro art setup guide so that's just Jamie I'll stick with my promise and here's the Retro watch guide for you today so like I say let's start the video if you like what you see today make sure to hit notifications subscribe and
