hi my name's Lee and I repair and service turntables CDJs and mixes in this video I'm going to basically remove some damaged photos remove the ground earth mod inside the turntable and just fit new and grounded so please bear with me this will be the first time that I recorded something like this hopefully it'll be okay I can always do another one because I have another one to do so let's get on with it so first thing we're going to do is just remove the platter put that to one side so that it's safe and remove the cartridge so basically whenever you do an anything like this I'll just get my tidy when they be doing any work on turntables you want to be really careful of the toenails because turn arm is the most important part basically if that wasn't moved properly you'll get skips and jumps if you want to see that it works for occasion to set the weight to the back put the anti skeet in zero and we see that the turn arm move into the center which is the natural movement and then putting it an escape of three puts it back out that makes it puts pressure on one side of the groove when you're scratching so normal use wants to be on zero if that's not moving quite like that then there's however this is too tight let's just quickly tell it try out this tiny thing that I need so basically if that is too tight or it's damaged in any way the bearings in the pivot on that will stop the turn-on from moving freely and you'll basically see that it stops certain points or just doesn't move at all so that's quite an important thing so what we want to do when we repairing a turntable we want to protect that at all times so I use some two pieces of foam one of them at hand cut in the center and then another piece just basically sits on top and then we want to take it over so we can now work on the deck without any risk of damaging the tonearm or the turn on bearings so let's take off the feet put to one side and then [Music] [Music] that's it that's all the screws removed so once you're taking the screws out lift the top up bless that at the back so the next thing is going to take off this cable retention so when people fit big chunky cables it's not only sacrifice by not having these which doesn't hold the cable in properly so eventually they just get more and more damaged over time those two screws on the top rack and then slap need in the little gap on the side so just pop that off will not contact then there are two screws hold Danny place any case no it can come off here we go so like I said this particular one has a ground model let's see if I can get that in a shop so we can see here this is the left and the right but the ground that is going out is just been wired on to what they thought is the ground of the photo lead but that's not actually the ground of the Fornelli the signal that comes from a cartridge so if we can get that in so this here those four wires are not common it's a plus and a minus and that's why you have a separate ground so when you're doing a ground mod on these turntables you're actually introducing noise into the - signal that comes from the cartridge and also you're going to get one in ten times a ground loop wherever you plug this turntable in that you will never ever be able to get rid of because they remove the ground from this turntable so we're going to get rid of that and we going to just fit a normal earth wire onto it so let's just slip this off and just cut these for the moment I can take that off they see the signal the signal comes down to turn off and come out on to these wives just here and then it's on the air to the board from the board to the rc8 let's just turn on the soldering iron right okay so first we're just going to remove those wires just use a little bit of solder if you heat it up just gets older flag that's right just rub off to be good so you have a new piece of wise to this and then in that a little bit off to one side and then you've got this new phone oh now I like to use molded photo means because they just take a lot more abuse and they'll a lot harder to break and a most common thing is people put the solid ones on and they just pull off so I found that these last a long time have been using them for a few years now me anytime I have problems with their is when people use them generally so let's just slip this shielding back take their shielding to the left and the right be sure to get all of it so there's no strain strength so now we see we've got the left on the right show that that even and how that one take the end off now are we ready to tin so just a little bit of solar or work turn the exercise here we go okay so let's folder these new cables on so first we're going to put the ground underneath I'm going to put it onto that tab Smok e on the end so it's flat before let's just get the solder slide and go nice and shiny connection there someone sees that and then we connect this new refineries and it's normally left on that side right on that side in this case the red goes to our and then white goes to L and then which is solder the braided sides inside of it okay and then we need a tie wrap to hold this in place push it underneath the board so that it's not on the top you can restrict the plate from going back on tight sit that off okay so now we're just going to feed the new phone owner through the plate so that the ridges are facing you there we go and we want the two small screws okay so now we want to do our table retention so goes that way and put the two wires at the back of it string it up so another reason why I chose these photos this we cook it fits perfectly into the back to say that push it in clicks down on the two clamps on the side there we go so that's just so now let's just cut this so that they're all the same length the end and then I'm going to put a formal speed on using this ratchet from the blue setting we just put that in just like that on the first clips it's holding place push that through hug it out okay so now we can get rid of get old why no other way keep the new cables through the home from the bottom put this to the back so before we start screwing it back together it's always a good idea to test it just put the feedback on flip it online but keeps panja the flap it back on slip that cartridge plug it into the power I have a technics amplifier the so now input and I just made a little breakout see me going to the back of the amplifier all the time ok fire on have a single sided record which I use for testing the balance of the turn off for the moment let's just make sure we get signal out of the left and right good okay [Music] there we go this is one it's not finished let's quickly try to the cleans off and we're done so that's basically fitting new photos onto a technic turntable removing ground mud and a quick explanation of how the kernel works so basically that that's it and thanks for watching I hopefully this came out better than I think it did so we'll see maybe it's all in the editing but thanks and see you again
