hey guys it's doc and today I'm just gonna do a real quick video simple way to replace a sprinkler head so hold on [Music] hey guys I figured I'd just do a quick video last week I replaced several sprinkler heads I'm gonna go ahead and replace this one and next week I'm got a guy coming out that's gonna move a bunch of sprinkler heads we actually go with a trenching tool let me just show you a quick way just whether it's a hunter or whether it's a Rain Bird I actually have both sprinkler heads out here so let me show you a quick way just to do it all I've done here so far so you can see it is I'm just going around and I'm just tracing a square all the way around this sprinkler now my sprinkler head is right here and I can't get to it so what I'm gonna do is just heat can just keep cutting keep cutting and then go in and sort of lift go in let's sort of lift and I'm trying to do is just pull out a nice square so I get access to this head then I'm gonna take this square out just like this put it over here so now I've opened up access to this sprinkler head and I all I want to do is just barely moving up dirt paddy and you can see I'm putting it in a tray over here so I don't mess up everything I don't want to take out too much dirt otherwise my sod will be uneven when I put it back in just open up that sprinkler head now one of the key points of this is do not do this hopefully for at least 24 hours after you run your sprinkler system you don't want this wet you don't want this soaking wet so give it a day or two before you do this hopefully otherwise you have a big mud puddle because you can do this you can do this quick way easy way if it's not soaking wet so now I'm just going to get any excess dirt around here out because I want this to be pretty firm so I'm going to firm this area up so now what I'm going to do once I get this area I don't want even loose dirt around here so now what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna unscrew this head very carefully and make sure there's not a lot of dirt here [Music] damn I got planes and everything else flying around today I'm just gonna unscrew this bin your agent now this is a hunter and I'm gonna replace it with a with a rain bird so let's see if I can do this okay so let's try and explain this real quick there's a little arrow here you turn it to the left all the way to the left now that's the stopping point the stopping point cannot be changed when you turn this is on a Rain Bird when you turn it to the right that point can be changed through the adjustment makes us so you turn it all the way to the left and then you line this up where you want it to go this way to your left and that's the way you put it in then once your water starts running or you can just turn it like that now you can change this through this little plus and minus hole here with the Rain Bird tool which is this little tool right here that's what a Rain Bird tool looks like so I just stick that in there and I go plus if I want to turn more - if I want to turn left and these are real fine tune adjustments now for the distance of the spray this is you stick this in here and that's your distance so how far do you want it to shoot this little hole is just so you can pull you can stick it in turn it and you can pull the head out that's all that's for okay watch your fingers because you'll get snapped so that's pretty much it for the Rain Bird it just is pretty simple just remember Rain Bird you start at the left hunter does the opposite starts at the right so it's and that's the way it goes that's you Justin I don't think I made that clear I was babbling in the video about this and I wanted to take a second and just get up close and personal with this thing and that's how the adjustment is made on these things and there's your thread on the inside just you know it just screws on so let me get that one more time so go to your left the left is the left is the stop point and then your right turn is the part you can adjust on a Rain Bird on a hunter stop is the right and the turn is the left so you can see I've just opened this up just enough to get this and I've got all my dirt compacted I don't want dirt falling back down that hole this trick doesn't always work so you can see now gently pull this out see any loose dirt I'm gonna sort of push down and I've got a beautiful hole sitting there with my threads exposed so now I'm gonna very gently just stick this back down in and I'm gonna rethread that again I know I've got it to the left stop and there's my left hand tighten only now I've got it to the left and I want to make sure that my left point here where this arrows placing I got it a little too far past it so that's about where so that's about where I want it to go on the Left I want to be shooting right about there and that looks about right and so now I can fill this back in and put a little loose dirt in here take my saw block my sod block right back over it and then work it right back into it so now you can see it's pretty much even so if I just need to go back and fill it a little bit I can go make sure my head is opened up make sure there's enough room for the head to pop out there we go now we're all set hopefully you can see that that was a 5 minute 5 minute project I cut out the square around it lift out that whole entire piece put it in the tray over here replace must break our head and this is this is a funner tgp I think it is a hundred PGP thread system and they're gonna match the rain burden hunters they're gonna match obviously the thread system she's ready alright there are two tools this is a Rain Bird tool and this is a hunter tool so what I'm gonna do is again it's stopping the pattern is stopping over here on the left so that's my stop point and now this is the adjust point so I'm gonna watch and see where that goes adjust or I can just turn it and that's where it's gonna stop and I want it to go just a little bit more so if I wanted to go a little bit more I'm gonna stick with my little tool inside there and just give it a tiny turn to the plus and it will actually turn more I want to go - - and it's a very fine adjustment I'm gonna turn it all the way to the right turn it back all the way to the left here and I want to turn a little bit more so I'm gonna give it just a tiny bit I want to go a little bit more so I'm gonna give it a tiny little bit with the left or right today good war I'm getting the back on my back so now I'm going to adjust the spray distance and that's done right through here and it's a lot of turning once you see the pattern chain we'll see about all right so you can see this you can see it the distance now that I've got to change the distance through the front hole and you got to be careful cuz you got a watch on a windy day it's deceiving and that's about where I want to be I'm getting away I only want to cover about three-quarters of the way cuz I have sprinkler heads down over here I may have to lengthen some of that spray up but it's deceiving if here today is a windy day and so what's happening is is you know I water first thing in the morning when there's no wind so you just got to be careful with that length adjust but I'm gonna probably lengthen see how short that one is I think I might lengthen that one up a bit so again guys five minute sprinkler head replacement real simple just take out your square pull out the saw it try and get it nice and smooth bring it up and just replace that hit it's that simple pretty easy doc how you [Music]
