okay this is going to be a video on how to change the glass cooktop on your stove if you've accidentally cracked it like i did then this video is for you this is a kitchenaid double oven glass cooktop stove uh this process is gonna be similar regardless of the models manufacturer uh and i'll show you how to take this off and replace it super easy but first let me go over how i accidentally broke this so that you don't do the same thing so i have this giant stock pot and the bottom of it must not be perfectly flat because i had it sitting here several gallons of water some chicken uh some vegetables i was making chicken stock and i pushed the basket strainer down into the pot to submerge all of the vegetables and the herbs under the water when i did that combined with the weight of the pot it popped the glass and sent a big crack going that way and a big crack going that way so we're going to replace this cooktop i'll show you how to do it super easy so the first thing i want to do is disconnect the power you could do that down at the breaker panel uh i'm just going to pull it out and unplug it so i don't have to go downstairs clip the breaker come back up okay the power off then we can open it up and get started so fedex just dropped this box off i mean it opened it yet hopefully it has the right cooktop inside okay looks just like the one that's on there now let's get started so changing these cooktops is going to be pretty similar on most models again this is a kitchenaid it's a double oven with a glass cooktop and regardless of who makes yours the cooktop attaches in a very similar manner and for this particular model there's four screws there's one at each end and two in the middle and i'm just going to use this milwaukee to pull those screws out and then we should be able to just slide this top off and slide the new one on okay with the four screws removed you should be able to pick this up and slide it out and take it off easy as that okay so it looks like when the glass broke it broke this piece of the heating element i don't think it's gonna be an issue you could replace this while you're in here and i'll post the link of where i got my new cooktop and where you can order new heating elements if you need to uh in the video description but it looks like there's a little bit of broken glass right there so we're going to want to get a vacuum and section that out and then i'll probably get a towel and clean off this oil spill or whatever that is while i'm in here and then we'll put the new top on i'm not gonna worry about this crack personally you might see a new video in the future where i regretted not worrying about it but it looks like functionally it's gonna be fine um we'll just see how it goes okay so i've got all that cleaned up got the glass removed we're ready to put the new top on so the new top was shipped fairly dirty it looks like somebody cleaned it with a squeegee and left some streaks not super worried about it it looks like it just rubs off with my finger i should be able to clean it pretty good uh and there's a piece of plastic right here that we're going to want to remove so when you get your new top in check it for plastic and make sure you get all that removed before you install it so something else i just noticed on this top is there's no holes for the two two center bolts uh they only have holes at each end i'm okay with that that's all it needs it's kind of overkill to have four screws holding this on and several cooktops released by just removing one screw at each end not four so even though it's an aftermarket top it is missing those two holes and just position it on there and put those two screws in okay we'll pull that out a little bit so we'll plug it back in okay let's turn it on and see if it works just using a little cooktop cleaner to get whatever those smudge marks were off and then once i get this wiped off we'll turn it on okay let's turn all these on i could feel heat that one's on that one's on these other two take a little longer that one's on that one's on should be back in business this isn't uh an original kitchenaid part it does have someone else's name on it but they did get the markings the same as the kitchenaid the even heat ultra the keep warm and the little oh that one says melt the little markings for the three burners small medium and large so overall it looks good and it works super easy to change let me know if you have any questions in the comments
