all right guys welcome welcome back my name is sabrina if you're new here and today i've already showed you guys my entire apartment at this point but i haven't dived too deep into exactly what i've done hopefully with the permission of your landlord um these are things you can do just to make your place feel a little bit more homey before you watch anything else in the video literally before you watch anything else in the video and comment down below about i can't do that ask your landlord if your landlord sends us a go then do it and if he doesn't then don't some people might wonder why it's why you would even need to like decorate or enhance some of the things that you're doing in an apartment like you're just renting and for some people they don't care and that's fine then this video is not for you but for people who actually care about their space and even want their renting situation to feel more of a homey situation i believe this video is going to be very useful for you all right let's get into it so the first thing i want to talk about if you're new here then catch up first thing i want to talk about is lighting i'll link a video up here in the corner and i've literally discussed every type of lighting that you need in your house to make your house feel cozy be sure to watch that video but when you're living in an apartment most of the things that they supply you with aren't of like the best of the best quality you know it's pretty much standard across the board especially if you live in a huge complex everyone's getting the same thing but not everyone's personality is the same easy things to do is just to add lighting yourself floor lighting really enhances the space if you'll notice i have switched out my pendant lights over my kitchen i've also added a pendant light over near my couch so my apartment does allow me to add lighting which is why i took it a step further and change the lighting that they provided for me because it just didn't fit with my style so i will show you before and after pictures of what it looks like these were the lights that i used to have in my apartment above my kitchen island and i switched them out to these particular lights here they're not my favorite um i just like the color scheme a little bit better i felt like they fit the white and gold tone that i was going for in the living room you don't want to spend like the best of the best and the most of the most money just on an apartment you just want to enhance what you already have so you don't need to break the bank in these things so these lights that i got i got them from target and they were super affordable lighting can get expensive so i suggest buying something that fits your style but also fits your budget if this isn't your forever home and if you don't plan to rent this apartment for 10 plus years there's no need to uh spend so much so much money on things that you're gonna have to eventually change because that's that's the key everything that you change you're going to have to put back i've also changed out the pendant lights in my bathroom and i'll show you again another before picture of what the lights were like before they just didn't fit my style i just needed more of a modern look in my bathroom so i switched out those pendant lights i got those pendant lights from amazon you can find panda lights that are very affordable at amazon target ikea i love ikea check ikea they have the most beautiful pando especially if you have like a boho style scandinavian like me modern mid-century but check out those places for affordable lighting also in addition to either just adding lighting in the space whether it's on the floor or in the ceiling you can add them under your kitchen cabinets literally my apartment already came with the light strip under the cabinet so i didn't have to do that but i can tell you that this makes such a huge difference alleviates me having to turn on the big kitchen light which i rarely ever do adding some strip lighting you can literally buy strip lighting from five below amazon target walmart stick it under your cabinet it doesn't have to be anything fancy it doesn't have to be a phillips hue or anything like that but it really does change a space like that under lighting cabinet really switches things up i also want to mention like switching out ceiling fans i'm not a big fan of ceiling fans i do all i think they do is collect dust and circulate dust if your apartment comes with a ceiling fan switch that out stick it under your bed stick it in a closet somewhere and switch it out there are so many beautiful chandeliers and lighting options that you can use to replace that ugly ceiling fan be sure to save anything that you take down in a safe place so whenever it is that you move out whether it's a year or five years so that you can put them back when you leave you have to put this stuff back unless you'll probably lose your security deposit or you'll be charged for them having to replace it themselves and if you are afraid to change the lights to yourself which i understand um i have an electrical engineer degree and i that's what i do switching out lighting fixtures is pretty easy for me if you don't feel that comfortable i always suggest hiring a contractor some people are very inexpensive they only charge by the hour and switching out something like a lighting fixture really should only take 30 minutes to an hour at most so the next thing that i went and changed out in my apartment are my knobs now i did not change the knobs on my kitchen cabinets simply because um i didn't hate them i don't love them but i didn't hate them so i didn't switch them out there but in my bathroom they were this silver chrome and i i don't silver does not go well with my palette i'm more of a gold girl so i switched out all of the handles in the bathroom which was good because it's actually less cabinetry so it's less handles that i had to replace i bought my handles from amazon they are all matte black switching on your knobs is very easy all you need is this couple screws make sure you measure from hole to hole and that will tell you the length that you need to use to to go buy additional knobs again ikea amazon home depot are really nice options affordable options to replace some of your knobs as well as etsy in addition to switching out your knobs i had to go all out so in the bathroom i switched out all of my hardware towel racks toilet paper racks hooks from my towel everything was cohesive everything was more my style switching out all of that to matte black really changed the entire feel of the bathroom i mean i already had like a more modern bathroom my apartment is fairly new but switching out those few things really made it feel more like my own style and in addition to that and moving on this can be sort of a controversial thing but i feel like it's very similar to switching out your lighting fixtures if you don't know how to do it hire someone to do it but i switched out my faucet from my sink as well sometimes faucets they get especially in renter and renting situations that give you the most basic faucet and again it was silver i did not like it so i bought a matte black faucet and i bought this super affordably as well like you don't really have to spend a lot of money i bought the faucet from amazon and i'll be sure to link that down below i did have to do quite a bit of research on my own because i'm not a plumber so um i wouldn't suggest you guys do this if you're not a plumber if you don't really know what you're doing or maybe find somebody that can help you but also check with your landlord first okay check with your landlord another update or upgrade that i made to my space is my accent wall okay when i first moved into my apartment i loved every single white wall in here i just wanted everything clean and crisp and bright my style evolved and i felt like i just needed something to kind of break up the white and just add a little bit more oomph in the space a little bit more design a little bit more pizzazz in the space so i painted my wall which is something i never thought i would do matte black okay this is a matte black paint by benjamin moore regal select it was an expensive paint and this kind of goes against um a lot of the things that i said you know try not to over spend on these things that you're gonna eventually replace or put back the original pieces i wanted a paint that was going to be easy to go on that i didn't need to apply too many coats i think the one can of paint was around 70 70 ish dollar so it was expensive but when i tell you one coat and i was like oh this looks good and then two coats i was like okay like i don't even know if i needed the additional coat but that one coat was amazing it is washable if anything gets on it i could just take a rag and wipe it right off so i really think this transformed my space so you don't always have to paint also your walls you can add removable wallpaper anything that will peel and stick and be able to be removed when you leave if you're looking for more of a loft or industrial look maybe like a brick wall removable wallpaper would look really really nice doing that really transforms the space also just be sure with your landlord that you can either paint or put up wallpaper with with the promise of either taking the wallpaper down and patching up any holes which most of the time these new wallpapers don't really leave or painting back a space if you decided to paint it my apartment gave me free rein they told me i can even pull up the carpet if i wanted to but i don't want to go that far and here's a bonus tip this is not something that i have done because like i said my apartment is still fairly new but if you have a kitchen and you have a ugly backsplash cover it up okay there are so many options for removable backsplashes that are affordable as well i'll be sure to link some below but here are some inspiration and some pictures of removable backsplashes they literally transform a kitchen if you have really outdated backsplashes it can make your kitchen feel dark and dreary finding a nice removable vinyl that can stick up on the wall and that will stay there through grease and humidity and water and everything that a kitchen environment goes through is a good option so i suggest that i love my subway tiles and i think they're classic and they're never really going to go out of style so those are the options that i have certain things to you know enhance your space that is all i have for you guys if you have any other suggestions on things that you switched out or that you've done in your apartment be sure to leave it below i want to make sure that everyone is helped out here so share all your tips also be sure to like the video if you found this helpful and check out this video over here it's about the lighting that i mentioned and it has a lot of good tips and that you might want to take to help enhance your apartment as well and i'll catch you guys in my next one peace
