hello YouTube and happy November Sharp's 1874 here and now what are we gonna do it's it's November the garden has been put to bed it's cold out not as much shooting time as we would normally have so what are we gonna do well I'll tell you what I did I wouldn't got oh oh not unsalted cashews I wouldn't got some brass whole bunch of brass and I got some Lake City brass for 308 now this is all military ammunition and some people there are some people who are concerned about how do you reload military brass well first let's talk about the differences so here we've got two we've got the ones fired and we've got the regular brass and if you notice right here get that there's a little bit of a you can see there's a little indentation a second ring there it's not on this other one what that is that's that's been from a crimping process so if the military says put the primer in and then hit it again with some pressure to make sure the primer won't come out that becomes a problem for reloaders because it's easy enough to push the primer out but the crimp is still there now a lot of people have tried lots of things and you can get online and you can find it tool made by some of the manufacturers which will actually go in and push that crimp out of the way I I didn't want to buy one of those tools so I found a different way so I'm not recommending this I'm just going to show you what I did and we'll go from there so we need to change places in the shop and be right back all right here's my trusty drill press what I did is I took a block of and I drilled it out for the same diameters right as here on the neck of the 308 cartridge I have this running the slowest speed it will go warning if you use a drill press make sure that you read understand and follow all the safety precautions necessary for that drill press dangerous things can't happen things can go wrong and when I sit alright so after the disclaimer here again I am not recommending this to you I'm just saying here's what I do what I've done is I've set the stop so this comes down only a certain distance and it stops right about there so let's just do a couple what I do is I guess barely kiss it now thing you have to be careful of is if this starts slipping it could grab if you had loose clothing on or if you had a long ponytail you could get it caught up into the spindle of the drill press don't do that so in fact I wouldn't recommend you're doing this unless you really know what you're doing with the drill press all right go back to the table and talk just a little bit more okay over back to the drill press now I'm not recommending to use the drill press method I'm just showing you what I do well I do recommend you do is any time you get some brass you punch me especially if it's 308 when you worry about the headspace you want to make sure you get a gauge so I've got my gauge every one of these that I pushed the primer out I drop into the into the headspace gauge and check it out but it's it's flush there and there's no need to trim because it's just exactly where it's supposed to be so once I have all my brass size appropriately and I'm finding about 10% needed to be resized most of these I could just use the neck sizing die that I have and everything works great but of the ones that I went to the drill press in then I took the deeper in tool mounted in the Chuck barely took the crimp out I just pushed in two primers so you can there we go look at that so we can still see the mark but there was enough of a leading angle that I was able to push the primer in without having to force it so this is the before and this is the after after the primer has been pushed in so I was cold winter nights when you have nothing to do get yourself some brass start reloading and have some fun make a bunch of bullets for next year I'm sharps 1874 and I thought you might like to know
