numbers to us yesterday morning Tommy tries to keep it away from Brian Mitchell but the Mitchell will have a chance for the return across the 40 to the 43 yard line before he was taken down by James coverage by Timur he gets the inside position it's a simple slant pattern he gets the inside position throws his hand in there and breaks up that fast it's just it's it's just perfect coverage timrie injuries to the Washington Redskins Kennard Lang out at defensive end with an ear infection and then Chris Mims who really has bent the best defensive lineman for the Redskins he's out with abdominal muscle pull so this was a defensive line that was already a suspect unit because they were number 29 in the league against the run now they're even for depleted by a so far today and done a nice job against the run Debra second unable to hang on with Jones on the coverage so the Redskins you mentioned the two injuries on the defensive line they only have two backup defensive linemen and one Kelvin Kenny has never played in the NFL yeah that's right so if they have to go into their depth they may be in a little bit of trouble today you noticed on that last play Kenny rich Owens tipping that ball that's one of the focuses of the Redskins defensive line today they'd never been great at getting pressure up the field against a quarterback they know Ty Detmer is only six foot with this lowly they're going to put their hands up a lot today ready Solomon the second year man out of South Carolina State for a gain of 13 again what you're seeing is a passing game that's attacking the middle of the field the short middle of the field passing game is the strength of Ty Detmer his strength is not the deep out his strength is not the nine this is his area of strength you can you can graph it out just like that and then here's the throw right here right in the center of the field by Denver not only being tough and resilient as great accuracy of the shorter pass she's way inside the quickie and this is the strength of the Eagles or this is what we talked about why they need to do they need to get the ball into this man's hands they've had problems with their pass protection so far you notice the passes today short passes play-action now here it is right up the center of the field but nice hole opens up there nice swapping that's where the Eagles offensive line is the strongest with their center Evert their guards Beckles and panels 12 three wide receivers [Music] Simon or he was brought down by my crew che now with the Eagles it's since everything is working the short pass the intermediate passed the run game what the Eagles offense is doing now is they're starting to spread the Redskins defense you see this they've got one two three wide receivers they spread it out and that opens it up in the middle it draws the safeties out towards their coverage and it creates a bigger soft spot in the middle of the Redskins defense Charlie Norton has joined waters in the Eagles major success against the Redskins in his career as a native of the Washington area Fairfax Virginia what a great luxury to have again you talk about using the strengths that you have and the Eagles are very strong at the running back position because they've got Ricky Watters they've also got Charlie garner they're strong and fullback they're strong at one wide receiver position with Erick fryer ray rodents noses that's why he said to Jon Gruden this week he said look I want to run the ball 20 times a game yeah we're gonna do some passing but let's shorten your passing game up let's go to the sefer passes and then once we get the defense spread out there's Jon Gruden right there once we get the defense spread out let's attack them with what we've got best that's a strong run game up the middle with two strong running backs giggles about 1/2 yards short so it will be third down and a one from just outside the Redskins 10-yard line you think third down and one is important to the guys up front the running backs because it's probably going to be a run play it's most important to this guy right here hi-def er because he knows he's got to perform in the red zone he's got to leave that offense into the end zone when they get close that's what he's struggled with last week against Minnesota to tight ends [Applause] waters two big inside and picks up the first down so it will be first and goal for the Eagles Marcus Patton made the tackle [Applause] that's just strong running right there we're gonna see if we can hear what that thing sounded and goal for the Eagles and you can do this as a defense and there you see Smith you can do that as a defense you can allow an offensive improve the whole way down the field at the time where you really check what you're about as a football player in the NFL is right down here on the goal line if the Redskins defense can fold they'll forget all about the long drive tides ever put together and or a pass or a return of more than 25 yards now they got up for holding holding 72 in the offense 10-yard penalty first down Kenny you may wonder why the Eagles are 1 in 3 I mean part of the reason maybe this right here you look at their number 29 in penalties eight point five a game there one and three and then well hey how come the Redskins are three and one look at that the fewest penalties per game of any team in the National Football League penalties setback dry this is not a good situation first and 20 you see the Eagles come out four wives they got to pass the ball interesting territory again of seven Marcus patent made the stop and I like the run and I like to commit to the run and I even on first to 20 but the fact is now the Eagles are they're gonna have to throw the football if they're gonna pick up a first down on this series beacause of that holding penalty you look at the rush yards I mean that's you're winning the battle 74 yards on the ground it's 90 the out of his range his balls are a little less accurate on this one here I believe he throws it behind Salomon you see that he threw it behind him and that's exactly what he did in Minnesota against the Vikings last year once he got out of that deep once he got out of that intermediate throwing his balls started to lag behind the receivers this is where he's at his best in the center and up on the sides third down and 13 pepper dunks it off water look at that [Applause] for instance 35 Wow Wow you want to talk about strength as a runner that's strong he broke two tackles on that plane to make that first down watch this here again do what you do best here's a little screen pass alright let those guys come through now look at water look at the strength here but that's strength you got a guy you look at this ball control graphic caddie you see that Philadelphia not only dominating on the scoreboard but 13 minutes off the clock compared to Washington's three coming into this game the Redskins were at third down conversions of the walk we there / - right I'll check it down for action Redskins out of sync offensively well Troy Vincent Bobby Taylor are doing a nice job covering the Redskins wide receivers they felt they matched up good and they do when your wide receivers are covered indoors Turner's offense that beats you have to go to your fullback your running back and your tight end the Redskins have got to do what the Eagles already are run the ball and get the short passing game going the staff go and clever ducks it off [Applause] and he has the first dog look terrific check it out for both farhat and mitchell it really was who we talked about Ty Detmer when he ran that ball into the endzone for the Eagles and showed his toughness this guy Gus Parata is just as tough and it's tough because a I've seen quarterbacks back in his pocket they get that kind of pressure and they start to protect themselves guys like Denver and Farhat they just hang in and they get the ball off somehow some way that's what farhat does here then Brian Mitchell makes it happen because look it's a bad pass low pass he uses his great catch ability to pick it up off the ground and let his speed and pick up the first today the air once again this get of five yards or he was hitting by linebacker a farmer and this is what they need to do this is what we talked about only moments ago if your wide receivers are having trouble getting open against the defensive backs so far the Redskins wide receivers have had trouble remember we saw even Charles de buri breaking up a pass to Michael Westbrook earlier on you get your passing game down to your running backs you start to chip away towards the inside you shift the focus of the safeties and linebackers back toward
