hey guys son first class bites here if you're watching this video you're likely in the process of joining the army national guard or have recently joined and you've been advised that you will start your military training off at somewhere known as the rsp or recruit sustainment program that is indeed a fact all guard soldiers will report to the rsp at least once prior to shipping to basic combat training or one-stop unit training all states have numerous rsp sites and you should train at the rsp location nearest to your home of record due to covid some states like hawaii are doing rsp drills virtually in this video i will give you an in-depth understanding of what the rsp is and what to expect before you ship to basic combat training you will attend the recruit sustainment program these weekends will be your introduction to bct and will get you started and keep you on track mentally physically emotionally and administratively while you prepare for your career in the guard rsp drills give you an opportunity to start getting comfortable with the terminology and protocols that are part of guard service and you will be getting paid for your time spent at the rsp guys this program could not be more helpful most of you are completely new to the military and have no idea what to expect when you go to basic combat training imagine going to basic combat training right now in your current state straight from civilian world and encountering drill sergeants how will you respond to that it can be overwhelming to even think about that's why in the national guard we've created the recruit sustaining program to prepare you for the next step in your career you won't believe what one weekend alone will do you will have such a better understanding of what you face ahead at bct there are five phases to the rsp before we go over them let me tell you what to bring you want to wear clothes to exercise in and then bring a change of clothes to change into after you exercise or do physical fitness you also want to bring your id social security card bank or debit card and whatever else your recruiter told you to bring phase one of the five phases red phase your first weekend at rsp is red phase in this intensive training you will learn basics you need to know right away like rsp introduction which is like a briefing about the rsp army structure history of the army and its components chain of command which is the line of authority which orders are passed rank and insignia learn what each rank is what insignias are and what they mean customs and courtesies these are behaviors to extend to other soldiers general orders which are basically rules and guidelines to follow reporting procedures drill and ceremony physical fitness these three will be extremely important to learn prior to bct ako and mypay set up this is setting up your military email and learning about leave earnings statements as you learn the army structure chain of command and rank insignia you will quickly learn how to follow the rules and extend the proper courtesies to fellow guard members and you will get ahead of the game if you learn them early now depending upon how soon you ship to bct you may be issued your operational camouflage pattern or ocp uniform we do not expect you to be in great physical condition at your first drill each month the rsp staff will expect your physical fitness level to go up though so make sure you exercise in between drills i have a video coming soon on prepping for basic training and you'll be able to use this for the rsp drill as well after red phase you have white phase depending on the number of months between when you enlisted and when you ship to bct the length of your white phase in the rsp will vary during this phase you will learn more about the guard and more of what you will need to know to succeed at bct in addition to physical training instruction in this phase will include proper wear of the military uniform you don't just put this uniform on there's a specific way to wear it and items you should have whenever you're in it army values soldiers creed and warrior ethos the three of these are vital to learn prior to bct i can't recommend enough having these three things memorized prior to bct in white phase you will also employ camouflage covering concealment tactics weapons familiarization and there's many other things that will happen in white phase depending upon how long you are in white phase during the white phase you will continue to focus on physical training and cover soldier skills that will prepare you for bct you can also compete for promotion to pv2 under the stripe for skills program the stripes for skills program consists of a series of tests that quiz a soldier on his or her knowledge of basic army fundamentals in the video description i will list a general idea of what you should expect to be tested on during the strike for skills program test blue phase at your final drill before shipping to bct in addition to physical preparation you will cover all the final details that have to be taken care of before you leave but you can get a jump start on these items by learning what to expect before during and after bct such as inspections what to expect during uniform wall locker or equipment inspections what every trainee wants to know about bct a briefing on what to expect at bct and you should be given the opportunity to ask any questions about bct so you will be able to ask the cadre questions about bct and they should have gold phase soldiers come in who just got back from bct talk to you and give you advice and allow you to ask them questions this is kind of like studying before a test i encourage you to ask them any and all questions you could possibly think of i'm sure they will give you some good advice but if there's anything that you're personally worried about ask them i spent so much time at the rsp and gold phase soldiers are always super motivated to help those soldiers that are prepping for basic combat training and then some final preparations for bct green phase green phase courses are designed for recruits in the split training option program generally these are soldiers who join the army national guard during their junior year in high school after you graduate from bct and during your senior year of high school you will gain advanced leadership and career opportunities and a chance to stay current on skills like urban area operations convoy operations navigation techniques disassemble assemble and perform a function check on various weapons green face soldiers will normally be called upon for bigger tasks as they've already completed basic combat training and proven themselves to some degree i know for me personally i would always call upon green-faced soldiers when i needed a task completed because i knew that they had some experience and i could count on them to get the mission complete gold phase once you have completed both bct and advanced individual training ait you will return to rsp for one final drill known as battle handoff before joining your regular unit and beginning work in your mos you will meet with representatives from your unit and learn where and when your next drill will be before you leave you will learn about the unit sponsorship program and get a final talk about holding yourself to the high standards of fitness and behavior you have learned at the rsp and at initial active duty training in gold phase you will turn in bonus paperwork if applicable other topics during gold phase are bonus and your financial readiness you'll receive an education benefits briefing you'll complete your battle handoff most likely when you're completing your battle handoff you will also say some words of wisdom to those that are following your footsteps or those in the other phases prior to gold phase and then there will be a final army structure or chain of command discussion once you have enlisted into the army national guard your recruiter will give you a drill schedule your recruiter will advise you on the date time and location of your first rsp drill date and will be able to provide you with information specific to your state rsp program also i want you to ask your recruiter how you can get promoted using the stripes for buddies program i've worked for the rsp for almost 10 years at multiple sites in multiple states if you have any questions about the rsp shoot me a comment below guys the rsp is an incredible program you're just gonna learn so many different things like getting in a formation you're gonna get to be in a military environment you're gonna learn things like parade rest position of attention there's so many little things that you're going to learn at the rsp that are going to help you at bct and just build up your confidence prior to leaving for bct one thing i want to mention though is when you leave rsp drill if you are in a uniform you need to be careful how you function if you stop at a gas station or you stop at a store and you're in that uniform you are representing the united states army and you better take that seriously if somebody sees you in that uniform and you're doing something silly and they're a former service member if they're a veteran or if they're currently in they're going to put you in check for a veteran soldier like myself if i seen you at a gas station and you're coming from the rsp drill i'm going to be able to identify you very quickly as a new soldier and i'm going to put you in check because if there's one thing that i won't allow is i won't allow somebody to disrespect the uniform so just be careful how you operate you're representing the army when you're in that uniform if you have to stop at the gas station or stop at the store that's completely understandable but be a professional when you're in that uniform i appreciate you guys watching this video become part of the bites army and subscribe or be a hater and don't thanks for watching i'm out
