Recommended PC Power Supplies for nVidia, AMD and Intel GPUs | ATX 3.0 PCIE 5.0 PSUs

hey guys this is Kevin for pixafort.com so in this video we're going to be recommending some power supplies for your PC build whether you're having a an entry-level PC uh or whether you're having a really high-end PC with the really powerful graphics cards and some of the more powerful CPUs the first recommendation is going to be for the MSI um there's two varieties there's one which is 80 plus platinum and another one which is 80 plus gold these came out last year and they are atx3 ready pcie5 ready now they were the first company to come up with atx3 ready power supplies and with these ones you get the two times total power Excursion and the three times uh Graphics power Excursion but these ones have another feature which is the gaming intelligence which we'll talk about a little bit later these power supplies all have the 12 volt high power connector for the new RTX 40 series cards and this will have the power connectors and the data connectors now the four data connectors are important because they allow the power supply to communicate with the GPU and the GPU can ask the power supply look how much power can you supply so if GPU can say I need 600 watts of power the power supply can say look I'm only rated for 450 watts and in that way you avoid one source of potential conflict you can go for the older connectors if you want to and there's this special connector that's just for MSI now the high power 12 volt high power connector will give up to 600 watts this is going to depend on the precise model that you buy so some of them will be 1300 watts and those ones are going to be good for overclocking but you've got to make sure that you're getting the right power supply for your graphics processor the 80 plus Platinum ones are also cybernetics Platinum certified and they're one of the first ones that I've seen that are cybernetics Platinum certified the gaming intelligence connector this is something that differentiates the uh the MSI power supplies they connect to your computer using a special Port you can do all sorts of cool stuff like monitoring the power supply controlling the fan all sorts of cool stuff you're obviously paying a little bit extra for all of this but it's included inside the price it's already included in the price if you want to use them for the different types of connectors the old six or eight pin connector double eight pin triple a pin or the 12 volt high power connector you can do it with the same same power supply you just use different cables and that's going to be the case for all the power supplies that I'm recommending today one of the problems that we had when I first recommended these was that the supply was not enough to meet the demand and that has changed so if you go on Amazon you'll find the the gold ones 750 watts to a thousand Watts they are available you can purchase them Platinum ones are listed in a different location so I will link to the gold ones and I will link to the Platinum ones you may have a slightly different Arrangement on other Amazon websites this is obviously the American website they come with a 10 year warranty which is awesome another company which is coming up with new power supplies is EVGA and they quite recently came out with their first 12 volt high power power supplies these ones have got two varieties 850 watts and a thousand Watts now this in the in the old days 850 Watts used to be sufficient and a thousand Watts used to be for the extremists out there but right now a thousand Watts just doesn't seem quite enough for some of the some of the graphics cards there are some graphics cards where the the requirement is for 1200 watts some of the 490 graphics cards the overclocked ones but uh this is their first offering the uh they're calling they've got the same atx3 pcie5 all of that good stuff but when we take a look at some of their other features they have got the full Suite of protections so that's your overvolt protection over current protection all of that sweet sweet stuff that's the kind of stuff that's lacking in some of the cheap and nasty power supplies and that's why you won't avoid those ones they have a three year warranty which is it kind of stands out a little bit another company which has got some interesting Innovations is Corsair they've recently come out with the RM shift series of power supplies these ones shift the connectors from the front to the side so there isn't actually a 12 volt high power connector here but they have got a cable that allows you to connect two of the ports to a single 12 volt high power connector on the graphics card so with these ones they are designed in a slightly different way and what you're supposed to do is to place them into the case with the connectors all pointing to the side we can perhaps see that a little bit better with a different uh with a different photograph so you install them in the normal orientation with the uh you know power connector at the back but the power connectors for the motherboard will be towards the sides and then you connect the cables for the motherboard in the graphics card from the side so you probably want to have a slightly deeper case than as usual so measure up the case before you purchase these ones if you want to go for the older power supplies from corset these are probably my default recommendations at the moment and with these ones they will cost about 20 dollars less these ones all of them have got very very good very very good specs including practically silent operation that's something you will notice for all of the high-end power supplies the other thing is the efficiency curve with Corsair they have a very good efficiency curve some of their power supply is the more expensive ones happen really really superb efficiency curve like it will go up like this like like a wall and then it stays up all the way with those power supplies they were very very good for the European Union the United Kingdom where energy costs are very high at the moment but whether you go for the newer ones or the older ones with Corsair you're normally getting something very high quality you can also get adapter cables from Corsair these are the type 4 connectors for the older power supplies the newer power supply is the shift power supplies have got what they call type 5 connectors and they will connect two ports to a single 12 volt high power port on the on the graphics card now the cables are in different colors so we've got some white ones here and there's also the red and black we also have black and white and black as well one thing to bear in mind is that they'll have different varieties so these ones are described as Corsair premium 600 watt pciegen pcie 5.0 Gen 5 uh 12 volt high power PSU cable so you can see the marketing guys have been at work there just giving this the the uh the keywords but the important thing for me anyway is that the brand is of Corsair branded one you can get third-party ones and who knows what happens with your warranty if you do use a third-party connector another brand I want to recommend is see Sonic these have got the new vertex power supplies these came out in December and they're the first power supplies that are compatible with the 12 volt uh Power connectors so they have the 12 volt power connectors at the power supply and they have the same connector at the GPU they're the first C Sonic ones to have that and the cost is fairly High they're probably the most expensive ones we looked at so far about 250 45 dollars all the way to about 300 for the uh 1200 watt one but again you can do some serious overclocking with this bad boy the compatibility ATX 3.0 pcie5 fully modular very very good 10 years warranty so with these ones a little bit more expensive but they do have the same paraphernalia for uh for for the new RTX graphics cards as the other uh as the as the other power supplies that we looked at very high quality very good quality components as far as the less expensive ones I did take a look around on Amazon and the the they're not that many very good power supplies under a hundred dollars at the moment one of the things you might want to do is to take a look at Amazon now we've got Amazon Prime day coming up on the 11th and the 12th of July so you might want to take a look to see what's available now and then maybe check again on the 11th and 12th to see if anything has been discounted so Prime day available obviously for Prime customers but you'll find a lot of PC equipment photography equipment and audio equipment will be on very very healthy discounts on the 11th and the 12th but also on the days leading up to the 11th and the 12th so keep an eye on that for the time being foreign [Music]
