>> Announcer: THIS IS NBC4 NEWS AT 11:00. >>> NOW AT 11:00, REBECCA GROSSMAN SET TO BE SENTENCED TOMORROW AFTER SHE WAS FOUND GUILTY OF HITTING AND KILLING TWO BOYS IN WESTLAKE VILLAGE. HER SENTENCING COMES MORE THAN FOUR YEARS AFTER MARK AND JACOB ISKANDER DIED. >> NBC4'S KARMA DICKERSON JOINS U LIVE FROM OUR NEWSROOM WITH MORE ON WHAT WE CAN EXPECT IN COURT TOMORROW. KARMA. >> PROSECUTORS WANT GROSSMAN TO SPEND DECADES BEHIND BARS. HER ATTORNEY, HOWEVER, SAYS SHE SHOULD BE ALLOWED PROBATION. WE SPOKE WITH A LEGAL EXPERT TOMORROW ABOUT HOW THINGS MIGHT UNFOLD. NOW, FIRST WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A LOOK BACK AT WHAT BROUGHT US TO THIS POINT. THESE TWO BOYS ARE MARK AND JACOB ISKANDER. THEY WERE JUST 11 AND 8 WHEN THEY WERE CROSSING THE STREET AND MOWED DOWN BY A CAR. THAT WAS SEPTEMBER 29th OF 2020. JURORS FOUND REBECCA GROSSMAN WAS THE ONE BEHIND THE WHEEL AND PROSECUTORS MADE THE CASE GROSSMAN HAD BEEN DRINKING THAT NIGHT, FLED THE SCENE, WAS RECKLESSLY CHASING THE CAR OF HER BOYFRIEND, FORMER DODGERS PITCHER SCOTT ERICKSON, AND THAT SHE TRIED TO BLAME THE CRASH ON ERICKSON. IN FEBRUARY, A JURY CONVICTED GROSSMAN OF TWO COUNTDOWNS OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER, TWO COUNTS OF VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER, AND ONE COUNT OF HIT-AND-RUN. LAST WEEK A JUDGE REJECTED HER REQUEST FOR A NEW TRIAL. SHE HAS BEEN IN JAIL SINCE HER FEBRUARY CONVICTION, AND TOMORROW THE PROSECUTION IS SEEKING THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 34 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON, SAYING SHE HAS NOT SHOWN REMORSE. HER ATTORNEY, HOWEVER, IS SEEKING LENIENCY. BUT AS LEGAL EXPERT ROYAL OAKES POINTS OUT, THE DEFENSE IS LIMITED ON HOW THEY CAN MAKE THEIR CASE. >> GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THIS CASE, IT WOULDN'T BE A SURPRISE IF THE JUDGE GIVES MS. GROSSMAN OF A SENTENCE SOMETHING APPROACHING THE MAXIMUM OF 34 YEARS. THE FACTS WERE SO EGREGIOUS, GOING 81 MILES PER HOUR IN A 45-MILE-PER-HOUR ZONE AND THEN TRYING TO LEAVE. THE FACT THAT REBECCA GROSSMAN CAN'T BRING HERSELF TO SAY "I DID IT" BECAUSE THAT WOULD UNDERMINE HER APPEAL MEANS SHE CAN'T SHOW THE REMORSE THE JUDGE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AND THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY IS SAYING SHE'S REFUSING TO GIVE. THE PROBLEM FOR THE PROSECUTION IS THE JUDGE KNOWS THAT SHE'S IN A BIND. SHE'S APPEALING, SO SHE CAN'T VERY WELL EXPRESS REMORSE. >> GROSSMAN, THE CO-FOUNDER OF THE GROSSMAN BURN INSTITUTE, DOES NOT HAVE A CRIMINAL HISTORY. HER ATTORNEY ARGUES SHE IS A KNOWN PHILANTHROPIST, AND THE CRASH THAT KILLED THE ISKANDER BOYS WAS NOT MURDER BUT A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. GROSSMAN'S SENTENCING IS TOMORROW MORNING IN V
