[Music] hey everybody laser bolt here and welcome to another episode today I'm going to show you a easy way to use mixed reality in flight simulator when you're flying in VR on a quest 3 this way right inside the headset you can see your keyboard you can see any kind of Hardware that you got like radio Stacks or flight switches this is real handy because usually in VR you fumble around to try to find your keyboard and you don't know what keys you're hitting and you can't see the switches that you're flipping this puts all of your Hardware right in the cockpit with you and you can reach out and hit keys on the keyboard and flip switches right in the real world to set this up you're going to need to grab two things first in your headset go to the Oculus store and grab a little program called virtual desktop this is an amazing program that you should have already but if you don't get it it does a lot of cool stuff this is basically an alternative to meta's airlink it has way more functionality it's super easy to use use and I use it all the time because I find it's just way more dependable than airlink I've had a lot of problems with that in the past after you have virtual desktop go into your computer and go to steam and look for a little program called reality mixer this is a neat little program that allows you to bring Real World objects into any VR game that you're playing on Steam now let me show you how to set this up all right put on your headset and launch a virtual desktop on the streaming tab make sure VR pass through is enabled now hit configure here here's where you can choose a color to key out that'll become transparent in the game you can make it any color you want but I figured I'd just make it this real unnaturally bright green I move the slider all the way up to 255 and uh we'll use that Now launch reality mixer on Steam it'll automatically put you in the steam VR environment with that familiar Horizon if you've ever played a game on here all right we're in the reality mixer homepage here go over and hit camera setup first since you're using a quest 3 make sure this is toggled on so it knows what you're using over here is where we set the same color that we put in the virtual desktop so it keys out that color green make sure you got zero red zero blue and 255 green go back to the previous page and from here we can set up different cameras which are boxes that you'll place around things in your environment that you'd like to see in VR you can set these to display based on your proximity or whether you're looking directly at it and things like that let's make our first camera general purpose a type so look at here it gives you a little box that you can move around in your environment you can grab it and move it around using the grip buttons and adjust the size of it by using the triggers I've got kind of a t-shape going on with my home cockpit so I'm going to use two boxes the first one I'm going to put down here on the bottom to display my Logitech switch panel then in the the edit box over here there's a couple Pages worth a step to check out most of it we can just ignore but there's a couple settings you're going to want to change on this page you can set your proximity to your device to make it appear in the game since we're sitting right in front of our cockpit we're never going to be too far away but I'll just slide this up to about 3 m or so just to make sure a couple Pages later you'll find sliders for maximum and minimum opacity just put those all the way up to the top on the next page you'll see Edge brightness and Edge width go ahead and put those all the way down to the bottom cuz we want to minimize the border around it as good as we can now we're left with just a thin green border around everything I really wish you could get rid of the Border entirely but there doesn't seem to be a way not yet we are done editing this camera so let's exit the edit mode and create another general purpose a we'll use this to stretch across the panels I've got at the top here the one on the left is the Logitech autopilot panel and the one on the right is the scitec radio stack that's right I bought this so long ago it still has the name of the original company and then go to the edit box and set everything like we did in the first one now let's launch the flight simulator and check it out look how cool this is right you got your instruments right here you can reach out and flip them I like how you can actually see your hand so you know exactly what you're doing it sure makes the startup procedure a lot easier not having to lift the headset up or peek down through the nose hole to see where your stuff is it's just amazing how everything feels so natural I mean when you reach out to do something everything's exactly where you think it is it'd be nice to find a way to get rid of these green lines uh the cockpit would blend right in the pass through camera on the quest 3 is not super high resolution so you might have a little trouble reading the fine print on some of your instruments but you can always lean in close and everything looks good and look here I put a camera box around my snacks so they only appear when I look directly at them neat I am pretty impressed with the reality mixer it was really easy to set up and it looks great I'm going to have to set this up on my racing wheel and uh that should be pretty fun all right guys I had a ton of fun today and if you have any questions or comments just leave them down below and thanks for watching we'll see you next time bye [Music] [Music] now
