I mean we're getting a lot of fire in 2023 we're getting new Jujutsu kaisen we're getting new we're getting uh hell's Paradise we're getting more Demon Slayer Dr Stone like we're getting uh so many more things bleach like I could go on and on forever but I don't know man 2022 was pretty good we're definitely not getting no more uh bait and Abyss this year than us good it's in Shadow it's not one of those shows this is everything oh hey whoa hey hey what excuse me excuse me boundary of anime modern Classics that stamps their mark on the scene and will stick with us for years to come Eminence in Shadow it's not one of those shows this is how dare you I am offended garnt I thought that this isakai was your thing come on man this is a modern classic no okay maybe not a modern classic this leaves its Mark you know it's it is probably you know it's something it's something I feel like Eminence and Shadow what it does is something similar to konosuba where it is just parodying the entire genre of isekai you know it makes fun of this this Edge Lord guy it makes it or like you know the concept of it like an edgelord main characters if you will and it's literally one of the funniest anime that we got from last year top five funniest anime from last year I don't want to say top like one it's there's some pretty funny stuff this is every 14 year old teenage angsty fantasy turn up to 11. it's edgy it's horny it might well just be the new king of trashy isakai and it's by far the most goddamn fun I've had in the genre for years re-zero okay shouldn't fun be in an actual like uh measurement for how good something is how fun it is people love Marvel movies people see them as as like really really good there's a large amount of the time where it's not because the story is amazing and that's like a large large large amount of the time where it's not because the story is amazing it's because it's fun that should be taken into account this is a fun series and it's funny and it's horny and there's tons of action like it listen oh I think it deserves a little bit more credit I don't know why I just the thought of new king of bad isakai is like come on dude can it be like the new Prince of parody isakai slime mushoka tensei all brilliant shows we've gotten in the past few years that absorb you into that is okay I'm gonna a controversial controversial y'all ain't gonna like this but um is slime really like on the level of re-zero and mushoku tensei and is slime really that much just judging off the first season alone we're only going first season we only got 20 episodes of I mean it's a shadow right so judging off the first season alone is slime really that much better than Eminence and Shadow think about it I'm saying think about it if we're judging off of first Seasons alone like we show contense re-zero right behind it intricate world and have shown us how truly great isekai can be if these three shows are the three star Michelin meals of isakai this is Eminence and Shadow really really that's crazy dude really that's so wild to me that slime is in this he's putting slime in the same conversation with re zero and mushoku tensei which I put Head and Shoulders Above the Rest like mushoka tensei re-zero up here slime's in the second category of stuff I don't know man this is me yeah but how did Eminence and Shadow get into Embrace giggle do you fantasize about getting hit by a truck is this another case of me having isakai brain rocks no okay I haven't forgotten what good anime is I still remember my best of 2022 anime list [ __ ] he Exorcist kind of cool for the elements of the main character like his whole exorcism thing like summoning ayakashi Yokai like that type of stuff like that's cool I like that everything else in the series not so great every attractive isakai that airs every season and before you go yo that's cap this is my face when I'm saying it look at this serious face do you see how deathly serious I am taking this I would never mislead you on something like this [Music] this is a show that won't go down this is my classic of anime it doesn't have a lot in common with the isakai grapes like Michelle kotensei Eminence and Shadow is edgy self-surfing you see what happens in it and it's like whilst the Michelle contensei is more like the plot goes like this Sid kagano is a man obsessed with but unfortunately he gets hit by a truck and dies reborn in a fantasy world he continues I give up the big issue I've had when trying to talk about the show to anyone is that as soon as I open my mouth to explain anything that happens I instantly lose anyone listening because everything that comes out of my mouth sounds [ __ ] stupid because it is yeah it's ridiculous but it's not purpose it is ridiculous on purpose man like it's literally like think of anything that is is is parody it's parody what's up the most dumb convoluted fanfiction.net tumblrass plot developments he can think up on the spot and it turns out to be true the man has no investment in the people around him and what's going on he's just role-playing his perfect isekai power fantasy story and everyone in the world is forced to dance to his tune on one side he shattered so incarnation of Vengeance entity of the night Slayer Batman the man okay what because of the night Slayer of [ __ ] the man [ __ ] without losing his virginity because he never loses Shadows personality over listening to My Chemical Romance once this is what people who shop to Hot Topic saw in their mind's eye shadow is the type of guy who would say you know what they call it the Dead Sea why because I killed it but on the flip side he's playing old Sid kagano a guy devoted to being an invisible background character who won't stand out won't attract attention chasing his dream to be the ultimate real-life NPC which hey guys I'm in New York City just hanging out honestly it's not hard to do nowadays the thing is he will refuse not hard to do yeah no you could be an NPC anybody can really I've seen some NPC Behavior recently out on the streets kidnapped and tortured his school is the target of a terrorist attack there are classmates getting murdered around he's always at the center of it exactly his mind is or our boys it's NPC time how can I give myself the most pathetic death possible as Shadow he will literally commit to robbing a grand piano only to transport it to an underground yes dude there's literally one of the best moments of the show the fact that he literally steals this [ __ ] massive piano and it's a really big deal for every like they're like why the [ __ ] did somebody steal the piano and he literally did it just so he could play like essentially what would be his theme Moonlight Sonata that's like his theme so he could play it dramatically and then and have his moment dude if that's not parody I don't know what it is dude I don't know what is I don't know what it is down for the Ultimate Edge Lord look the mad is more dedicated first note of My Chemical Romance is Welcome to the Black Parade very good okay I see what you did there I see what you did there good call back to the My Chemical Romance mention okay and Jake Paul is to playing an [ __ ] he could give Daniel Day Lewis a run for his money in his commitment to method acting oh yeah okay so this is like a parody of isakai kinda comedy yes it is well okay maybe kinda is actually more accurate it is it is it is a just because the elements are so over the top like you can't take it seriously you can't oh so maybe it's not necessarily parody so much as it's just purely a comedy series right subjective okay that's a phrase people use when they're about to say they don't find something funny Eminence Shadow has some decent jokes here and there though it can be hit or miss sometimes it'll do this thing where it will spell out this overused Trope and pass it off as a joke which is something I've always despised but sometimes it can play around with our expectations in amusing ways we've always wanted to see the main character accidentally goes in the hot spring sees the girl she goes gets angry blah blah blah all right here's what happens with Sid barge is into hot spring it's the girl's hot spring doesn't acknowledge the girl Lexus IS pee pee refuses to elaborate further oh don't forget though this is a show that is not afraid to play around with tropes we're familiar with and subvert our expectations to varying degrees of success but what I found more impressive and a hell of a lot more amusing is how hard it commits to its own [ __ ] act it makes fun of itself while doubling down tripling down quadrupling the [ __ ] down on all the cheesy cringe ass moments we roll our eyes at in your typical trashy power fantasy hey there's a weight drop in everything dude it's just entirely self-aware if you find yourself not taking the show too seriously then end up being completely invested in all the dumb [ __ ] that ends up happening yeah love and hate are two halves of the same coin but Eminence and Shadow proves that I like that you have the same coin you got the coin moment that's good that's good man that's good anything is true with cringe and cool because what happens when you take all those cringe scenes that would only appeal to an edgy 13 year old distill it rev up the stupidity to 100 does it somehow become cool again this is what Eminence and Shadow are yes and I think there's one scene that encapsulates everything that shows about so if you don't want to be spoiled for episode 5 just skip ahead see it I am Atomic I love it dude I love it if you can't see that as parody this man's literally like oh I could die at any moment what what happened if a bomb dropped who thinks that like I know I could die at any moment whose thought process is like I need to be stronger than a nuke him that's it it's just him that's it nobody's uh nobody's out here thinking of how they could be stronger than a nuke man dedicated himself to being Batman without all the fancy gadgets he had trained enough to take down any Thug he encountered so what no matter how much a mortal can train there are still limits to what you can achieve what if he went up against a firing squad what if someone dropped a nuclear bomb on you no matter how much you develop your muscles hone your mind perfected your skills if someone comes along with it but wait what if what if someone Dropped a Bomb on you and it didn't kill you what if there was a way to stop that the bomb you'd be instantly vaporized or so he thought so you thoughts [Music] he had yet to attend yes sir years of training he arrived at but a single Solution that's right if I don't if I hit if I don't want to die to a bomb I've got a beer bomb you gotta be a bomb to beat a bomb he's been vaporized by a nuclear explosion I must simply become the nuke be the bomb to beat the bomb well I love I love the distort the the effects that they put on the vocals whenever they play that oh peek I love that [ __ ] so good so good it's so good how could I know don't laugh what the [ __ ] did I just watch don't laugh no it's good it's good it's good no it's good it's good it's good right it's good stop it's good that's different the second time hey no dude I don't know it wasn't in Times New Roman dude that was it that was in uh uh whatever's the coolest [ __ ] font you've ever seen in your life it is it was that fun in fact it was probably a culmination of multiple fonts definitely italicized bold not bold actually you know how fonts have like regular they have like thin regular bold and black like the extra bold it's in that for sure italicized cursive and also uh I don't know man it's just every every culmination of cool font that's how he said it it's a tank this doesn't try to differ it's so good the typical pal fantasy EC color this fully commits to being the power fantasy isekai then goes 10 steps further beyond what is necessary he is stupidly op he's never in any real danger he'll say cringe lines and pass them off as the coolest thing ever said you think other Easter card protagonists specialize in having their own Harem well not only does every influential figure happen to be a cute girl who of course ends up falling for him but he's got down but he also doesn't give a [ __ ] about him he doesn't care he's not like in love with him he's not getting flustered not for one moment that's not what he does unless he's playing the character of Sid that acts like he's flustered I'm built an entire Shadow organization with zero boys allowed Alpha Beta Gamma Delta Epsilon Ada Zeta Sigma the man's created his Sigma hundreds not a thousands hundreds of super powered wifus that end up amassing so much wealth and power that they end up influencing the world stage yes sir quite complete accident yes sir having to see everyone in the world take Sid's [ __ ] role-playing 100 seriously that's so true everybody's just got to deal with it they're like he does this [ __ ] all as a joke he's like oh I want to be a mob character but I also want to be the Eminence in Shadow so I'm playing these two different roles and everybody else in the world is like there's this organization the shadow guarded they're so powerful they're doing this and that and that and this and and he's just he's just having fun he's just living his best life pushing Fantasyland with Nations vying for power secret organizations manipulating the global politics characters are in a life or death struggle to defend the Homeland they so love and then Along Comes This dude countries pour their resources into figuring out what exactly is Shadow Garden who's in it what's they want what are their goals and motivations how does their presence affect the world and meanwhile Sid's just there like yes dude this was also a really [ __ ] great moment where he's like he's like okay I'm gonna have this meeting later I gotta set this [ __ ] up to be perfect perfect it's got to be the best I've gotta I've gotta make it look like I am fit for the role of shadow so stupid everyone is playing Game of Thrones there's like a little throne and he's got all these paintings sipping his wine when they show up oh so good can you just make [ __ ] up as he goes along breaks down the rule of the game ignores the big shiny things that are shouting this is the plot but he's incapable of rolling anything but not 20. and so everything he ends up doing is real consequences to the world around him a lot of people oh okay things are gonna get into the we're gonna get into the real the real stuff here a little bit I've compared this to overlords but I think this is actually closer to isekai one punch man and I'm gonna be honest one punch man is that a good way to say it not quite um not quite because saitama is saitama through and through he's always gonna be dumb he's always going to be he's I mean he's just gonna be saitama you know whereas Sid will at least act differently whenever he's trying to play a certain role but I also would not compare it to Overlord I don't I don't think so because Overlord you know eins is like I don't really think he's playing a role so much as he's different because I ons has like a real plan I don't think Sid really has a real plan you know irons has like goals like he's like oh I gotta do this I gotta I gotta find the other players and you know like he's he has an objective he's getting towards right he's sending everybody out there the different floor Guardians to do whatever so he has a real goal you know what in fact bro if we're talking about it when he's talking about the three best right re-zero Michelle contensei and slime do you think maybe we could put Overlord there instead of slime I don't know hey man I'm not trying to I'm just saying I'm just saying what I'm saying I don't know man I don't know I just I don't know how he sees slime as like one of the big three of isakai I didn't even know there was a big three there was just a big two see I put slime on the same tier as like Overlord they're in that second tier they're in the they're in the a tier s tier simply re-zero ushoku tensei a tier is where I see things like slime and Overlord another series that I won't talk about right now because I could probably turn that into a video now that I think about it another reason I'm making this video is because I'm praying that this doesn't stop at just two seasons yeah yeah I'm excited to get more of the East car greats but for the love of God give me five more double Big Mac Meals of this please yes it was a series that should not work but somehow it does this is what happens when every single person working on an anime absolutely understands the assignments it's a series which gives absolutely zero [ __ ] in being cringy edgy or childish Sid is a man who laughed so hard it became reality but the more you watch the more you get sold in his [ __ ] it throws at you every Trope every cliche ever like it's the first time you've ever seen an anime this is what happens when you reach the peak of trashy entertaining isakai and I don't know what more I can do to reach even greater Heights I don't want to be the last boss Eminence in Shadow okay now it's perfect yeah I did it it's you have to have that you have to have that in the anime where they say the name of the show the classic classic thing to have all right man that's good good video honestly honestly um aside from the fact two things one not enough love given to Eminence and Shadow you know just labeling it as the king of bad isekai I don't think it's bad I think it's bad I think that it knows what it is and it just leans into it you know this is certainly not a bad I don't I just don't see it as bad I can't I cannot for the life of me see it as bad it is so entertaining and what I said fun has to be a measurement right entertainment fun has to be a measurement when we're talking about how good something is it needs to be we can't just ignore the concept of how fun something is how entertaining it is that's got to be some real [ __ ] value there there's plenty of Bad series that are just entertaining and nothing else this I would say is more than just entertaining because even though we don't get a ton of it in the first season I feel like there is still this plot where there's a guy who's making all this [ __ ] up he's put in these moments where he's got to come up with something comes up with something off the top of his head turns out it's true there's still that plot having to deal with this evil organization that is controlling everything that is manipulating everything behind the scenes which Loki kind of Shadow Gardens is doing the same thing right they're manipulating things behind the scenes so you still have that having to deal with that element of things and eventually Shadow's gotta find that out Shadow's gotta realize oh wait hold on so you're telling me there is this this organ wait I I thought I was just making this [ __ ] up right that's gotta happen eventually and also it's the other characters in the story that like I'm sure Alpha's got like a much greater story to tell right we already saw the whole Beatrix connection that's gotta be a thing and she's got the bloodline from you know the whole dealing with the with the the fat bald priest guy I forgot the name of the hero that that was in that moment but whatever that person you know uh the bloodline of her and then beyond her we've got Rose's story and how her kingdom is dealt with you know like what the [ __ ] happens to her and then we've got Iris and Alexia and what's going on in their Kingdom their father Loki kind of suss bro there are definitely some elements in this that haven't been fully fleshed out a lot of the first season is just showing us how ridiculous Sid is and I love it for that but I feel like there is a lot more to it there is so much more that we can get into that I feel moves this out of that bad isakai category that's that's being labeled or maybe I just like bad isakai Maybe maybe that's all it is regardless really awesome to see gigguk make a video about Eminence and Shadow that means more eyeballs on the series I always want to see a series that I like getting more attention because that means more people getting into it that means more potential for it to have more seasons I mean we already got a second season confirmed but if more people are interested in this and they watch the second season second season does even better than the first season maybe we get a third I love that [ __ ] so awesome that we got a video from gig about Eminence and Shadow uh with that said I would love to know what you all thought about digox video of eminence and Shadow how do you feel about what I said about slime being in a tear underneath ushoku tensei and re-zero how would you structure like if we were doing a pyramid like a a pyramid scheme no uh a pyramid if you will about like the best isakai and at the top we have whatever series at the bottom
