hey guys what's going on it's don here from novaspirittech and welcome back to the channel and today we are going to be building ourselves a pie weather station so let's get started [Music] now before we begin i do want to thank eric he's actually the original creator of this script to get the weather station working on the raspberry pi as easy as possible i actually found out about this because i saw his reddit posting on reddit obviously and it just amazed me because how easy it was to set up and how easy it was to put together for the raspberry pi and it gives me all the information that i need just to see what's going on with the weather you know including the fact whatever is going on this year it's just i would like to know so i've actually installed this onto a wii maxin 8 inch screen this is a 70 screen that i will leave a link to a video on where you can get the screen but this is not a touch screen and i recommend getting a touchscreen for this type of system so you could actually go in and use your fingers to navigate around so here we have the full system booted up and you can see it's actually in a dark mode you could turn it into light mode and also dark mode if you wanted to and you can move it around and obviously there's no weather participation right here so but you could also see like the daily forecast the weekly forecast and if you like scroll around you could possibly find some weather let me zoom out a little bit and you can see a little weather that's happening right over here zoom out maybe a little bit more and there we go we found some weather so you can actually see or zoom in a little bit to see the weather detailing over here as well as actually hit the play button the play button on the bottom right will actually enable like a live view mode and you'll see what's happening in the next hour so it's like a prediction as you can see it's loading the pictures back and forth and it's basically a loop and as you can see from the top it's like moving downward so you've got an idea that it's coming this way obviously this is not the location i'm at but then again at least you can see what the weather is happening and it's moving on then if you wanted to change some other stuff like your gps location or your standard location or you could pinpoint certain parts that you want to mark you could do that as well in this application but it's a very very simple utility to kind of get an idea of what the weather forecast is and it gives you like all the information that you need so i really like how simple this pro program is and how well it works on the raspberry pi as you can see it doesn't take much to run and there's not much buttons that you could actually mess up your thing with all you really need is your location and it could pinpoint wherever you want to look at so to set it up okay so this is actually the github page that you'll be pulling your data from and as you can see it's only 14 days old and he updated the readme about five days ago but exactly this is what we were seeing before and if you go down you do need to make free accounts with map box and climate cell so you have the api available to run this type of data and also to run the software you don't really need the location iq but yeah those are the main two ones that you need to set it up it's pretty simple all you have to do is download the git and use npm install and then npm start so what i'm going to do here is change over to my downloads folder and there's nothing in here all i have to do is get clone and then paste the git and then hit enter it's going to download all the information into here now we're going to change the directory back over to pi weather station and then we type in npm install this will take about a minute and once you're done with this we are ready to start the application so give me one second i'm just going to let this go and there we have it now it might come up without ever saying that it's a little bit outdated and stuff like that it's okay it's still going to work so npm start and now it's going to run and actually kick on your browser so give it a second you can see it's going to use the port 8080 and you could log into this from another computer if you wanted to and there we have it our pi weather station now you do have to stick in those two api keys that we were just talking about and then everything should run and once that information is inputted here we have it you can actually just move it around if you wanted to first loading it's a little bit slow but once you get all the data and loads you can see it's weekly data you'll see the time that our precipitation you can move it around uh change the light and day mode like i was showing you guys before disabled that little cursor thing you go back to your center location if you wanted to and you could head back into the settings and if you got a touchscreen you can actually hide the mouse in the settings area itself and that's it setting this up was pretty much very simple and it was just a matter of copy and pasting some of the commands downloading the git and that's it now you could also log in from another computer to the raspberry pi so you could actually get it on another computer screen if you needed to so if you know the ip address of your raspberry pi just type in the ip address with port 8080 and it'll show up like you would on the raspberry pi so you could actually get it on another computer now if you do plan on using this on the wiimax it like i did over here i would be putting this onto a raspberry pi 3 and sticking it to the back so i have something to use my raspberry pi 3 with but for this preview i am actually using raspberry pi 4 because it's a little bit quicker i have not used this long term yet so i don't know if it's going to surpass the 1000 requests per day but at least you know the map is 1000 requests and the climate is 1000 requests per day so anyway i thought this was a really really cool program that is worth sharing so i decided to put something together for you guys and here it is if you guys have any cool software like this or you want me to take a look at something please leave it down in the comments below and again i thank eric for making this little tiny software you guys are new to his channel consider subscribing also hitting that bell notification icon so you know when the next video is going to be out and as i say my nerd cave hack till it hurts
