in one of my previous videos I ranked every F1 Champion's debut race now we're going to go to the opposite end of their times on the grid and rank their final races a lot will have happened in the intervening time period including you know becoming a champion and as with before there's quite a variety in terms of how these men saw out their time in Formula One as with before we're going to rank the driver's base not just on how they drove but also on how the weekend went as a whole as they can't be blamed for things such as breakdowns accidents that weren't their fault or struggling in awful cars it also goes without saying that Fernando Alonso Lewis Hamilton and Max verstappen were not to be appearing on this list for the obvious reason that unless any of them decide to retire tomorrow their final race has not happened yet so time to rank almost every F1 Champion's final race so the worst final race goes to yoken rint in 1970 rince was starting his second year with lotus having won his first race in 1969 behind the wheel of the Revolutionary 49b initially he took victory at Monaco sandwiched in between two retirements but when the 49c was debuted at zanvort he then won four consecutive races and retired from the lead at his home rate in Austria but went into the 10th round at Monza with a 20-point lead in the championship over Jack brabham more than two whole race wins aerodynamic wings were now being used across the board following notice's introduction of them two years prior but for the ultra high-speed Monza where down forces minimal and top speed is key most teams removed the car's rear wings seat belts were not yet compulsory but many teams still started using them as up until then the majority of fatal accidents had been caused by drivers not having them Lotus installed a robust five-point harness industry standard today but rinse chose to use only four of the Five Points in order to enable him to escape the car quicker in the event of a fire on the fifth lap of Saturday practice heading down towards the paraboliker where the cars could approach 200 miles per hour rinse cars suddenly veered left while breaking and he shot off into the barriers and hit a stanchion head-on in the interest of keeping this video monetized I won't explain the extent of his injuries but by not wearing his seatbelt correctly he was killed on impact Lotus withdrew their remaining drivers Graham Hill Emerson fittipaldi and John Miles the latter of whom then left the team but as was custom at the time the race still went ahead It Was Won by Clay reggaetoni and defending champion and close friend of rinse Jackie Stewart finishing second meant he tied on points of jackrabba in the standings maintaining a rinse 20-point advantage Jackie X won the following round in Canada reducing rinse lead to 17 points with two rounds remaining at Watkins Glen the penultimate round fitter party won and IX finished fourth giving Rin to 14 point lead with only one round and nine points remaining and so a month after his death rinse was crowned formula once first and so far only posthumous drivers champion in 30th is isena during his long stint with McLaren Senna won three titles and established himself as a legend of the sport being treated as royalty in his native Brazil where he followed in the footsteps of Emerson fitzapaldi and Nelson PK and being idolized in Japan through McLaren's partnership with Honda after he won his third title in 1991 Sena Ida moved to main Rivals Williams but was convinced to save McLaren out of loyalty to Honda Williams came out on top in 1992 with their Innovative fw14b replete for various electronic driver AIDS such as traction control launch control active suspension and on-board Telemetry that made them Untouchable in the interest of remaining competitive Senna tried to join them again for 1993 even offering to drop his salary but had this vetoed by his former teammate and rival Alan Prost who had already had a contract in place of them after receiving a large severance pay from Ferrari to sit out 1992 after leaving them acrimoniously before the final round in 1991 and whose contract with Williams had a clause in it that prevented Senna from being his teammate Williams dominated again and sent assaulted on with McLaren now under Ford power but finally managed to join them for 1994 as Prost retired and his anti-center Clause lasted for only one year in 1994 the electronic driver aged this has been the key to William's success over the past two years had been banned and they had built a car that mechanically was basically the same but without these AIDS they had depended on so much Senna was not impressed with the car in testing as it had fundamental handling problems and a very narrow setup window in which he could make it work despite that he took poll at the season opener into Lagos in the rate however he lost the lead to the benison and Michael Schumacher in the pit stops and while chasing him down uncharacteristically spun and stalled the car at the second round of okiyama he got pole again but was passed by Schumacher at the start and then taken out by Mika hackaden and Nicola larini at turn one he was growing suspicious of benison's car and so Sat by the track for the next 10 laps listening out for evidence of now banned traction control of the b194 coming away thinking they might still be using it and the third round of imler senna told former teammate Gerhard Berger that Williams had upgrades coming soon that he was confident would make the car more drivable senna's Protege Reuben spirochello had a big crash in practice and set out the race then in qualifying rookie Ronan ratzenberger crashed at veal nerve and was killed on impact becoming the first Formula One fatality since Elio DeAngelis in 1986 and the first death of the Grand Prix weekend since Ricardo Poletti in 1982. Center had already qualified on pole with Schumacher behind for the third consecutive race and along with the other drivers decided to reform the Grand Prix Drivers Association to advocate for better safety the fia's head doctor Sid Watkins tried to convince Senna to withdraw from the race and for them to both walk away from the sports and retire together but Center insisted on racing at the start of the race another big crash between Pedro Lami and JJ Leto brought out the safety car behind the safety car which was an Opel Vectra Senna was gesticulating to the driver to speed up concerned about Tire temperatures plummeting after the race restarted Schumacher was right on Center's tail and on lap 7 Senna went straight on at tamborello and hit the concrete wall where upon the right front wheel struck his helmet in the suspension arms pierced it and he died within minutes the race eventually carried on with Schumacher winning and sender's death wasn't announced until later that evening the exact causes of the accident are unclear an investigation concluded that the steering column had snapped however Schumacher who witnessed the accident first hand said that beforehand Cena's car had looked nervous and he also had a snap over steer upon losing control which is not indicative of a steering failure Adrian yui who designed the car suggested it was caused by a puncture as the car also appeared to bottom out nevertheless Senna was given a state funeral in his native Brazil which saw Prost as one of the pallbearers and he was laid to rest in the murumbi cemetery in Sao Paulo in 29th is Giuseppe Farina before the formation of the Formula One World Championship Farina was already a household name in Grand Prix Motor Racing having won the Italian Championship three times in the 1930s and then made history by becoming the first Formula One drivers champion in 1950. he won this title with Alfa Romeo but moved to Ferrari in 1952 from 1954 he started taking a step back from racing and his last official Grand Prix entry was at the Italian Grand Prix in 1955 where he drove a Lancia and qualified forth but after a high-speed Tire failure during practice decided to withdraw the following year he decided to enter the Indy 500 which at the time was an official world championship event on the Formula 1 Calendar despite the fact that it did not run Formula One cars and there was virtually no overlap of drivers Farina entered in a ubiquitous Curtis craft 500d chassis with a Ferrari engine sponsored by American manufacturer bardahl entered as a bardal Ferrari Heavy Rain canceled the third of four days of qualifying and with limited running time on the fourth day Farina failed to qualify he intended to try again in 1957 but after his teammate Keith Andrews was killed in a Testing crash in the car he decided against it retired from racing and was killed himself in a road traffic accident in the Savoy Alps on route to the French Grand Prix in 1966. in 28th is Graham Hill won one Championship each with brm and Lotus in the 1960s and drove for brabham in 1971 and 1972 but after this decided to follow his example and set up a team of his own which he called Embassy Hill in their first two seasons he had scored just a single point and they ran a shadow chassis in the first year and a Lola in the second he continued to use the loader in 1975 but twice finished outside the points and then failed to qualify in South Africa he set out the next race and then at Monaco where Hitler debuts informed upon 17 years prior and subsequently won five times he brought a modified Lola that was a fully fledged Hill chassis this however was not any better and he qualified 21st out of 26 cars for an 18 car grid missing out by just four tenths at this point he decided to retire in order to fully concentrate on running the team and gave up his seat to his Protege Tony Bryce however six months later both of them were killed in a plane crash and Embassy Hill came to an end [Music] in 27th is Phil Hill of no relation to Graham Phil Hill won his soul Tyson in 1961 becoming the first of two American Champions having largely snubbed the American Racing scene following his title Triumph he won no further races and bounced between several teams while also turning his attention more towards sports cars and in 1966 he entered the Monaco Grand Prix in a customer Lotus the Belgian Grand Prix in a customer McLaren and later in the year entered the Italian Grand Prix for Dan Gurney's anglo-american races in an eagle t1f here he qualified 21st out of 22 drivers for a 20 car grid more than two seconds slower than teammate Gurney and never returned to Formula One and retired from racing completely in 1967 and died from Parkinson's disease in 2008. in 26th is John's 30s like with Jack grab him and eventually Graham Hill certis also decided to create a team in his own name doing so in 1970 six years after he won his title for the first few races he ran of customer McLaren chassis and then started building his own and scored six points across 1970 and 1971. he retired in 1972 but at the tail end of the season made a return at Monza where he failed to finish and then again at the season finale of Watkins Glen here he qualified 25th out of 32 drivers fourth out of the 530s drivers and some 12 seconds faster than teammate Tim shenken who hadn't set a proper time and so certis decided to vacate his seat for shenken and continue to run the team until they folded in 1978. in 25th is Jackie Stewart in 1973 Stewart secured his third driver's title at the Italian Grand Prix with two rounds remaining the season finale on Watkins Glen was to be his 100th Grand Prix after which he would retire and hand over the Reigns at Tyrrell to his teammate and protege Francois severe though he had kept both of these facts secret from all except team owner Ken Tyrell during qualifying Stewart qualified sixth two sets behind Severin fourth however on his final run severe was killed in an extremely violent crash at turns 3 and 4. Stewart who across his career had been the main voice campaigning for improved safety standards and had already been witnessed to the deaths of drivers such as Lorenzo Bandini Joe schlesser Piers courage yoken rint and Roger Williamson decided to retire immediately and ended his career with 99 race starts and a record-breaking 27 Grand Prix victories in 24th is Denny Holm Holm started his career with brabham and after winning the title in 1967 joined his fellow Countryman Bruce McLaren's team he stayed for the next seven seasons winning five races along the way like many at the time as he aged and his career Advanced he grew wary and concerned about safety following a slew of fatal accidents across his career after he tried in vain to save his friend Peter revson's life in a testing Crush at Kyle Army in March 1974 he made the decision to retire at the end of the year at the season ending United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen he qualified 17th but drops three places at the start and lasted only four laps before the engine died his concerns about safety were further reinforced as only five laps later helmet koinig suffered a fatal accident Holm continued racing after leaving Formula One mostly in touring cars and suffered a fatal heart attack during the Bathurst 1000 in 1992. in 23rd is Jensen button button originally retired at the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix having spent Seven Seasons with McLaren after joining them as defending champion in 2010. after former teammate Fernando Alonso elected to race in the Indy 500 in 2017 instead of the Monaco Grand Prix button was brought back for one last hurray having stayed on as a reserve and simulator driver along with teammate's stoffel Van Dorne button made it into Q3 and qualified ninth though he had incurred a 15-place grid penalty for replacing the mguh and the turbocharger which sent him to the back of the grid and he eventually started from the pit Lane Monaco is notoriously difficult to overtake at which was made worse by this being the first year of the wide body hybrids which also created lots of turbulent air behind them Boston spent the entire race in last place staring at the diffuser of Pascal Veer line he eventually gave everyone else a good look at their Line's diffuser when at Portia on lap 58 he dived down the inside and they locked Wheels which flipped their line up on his side propped against the barriers button himself retired with suspension damage and was given two penalty points on his super license not that it mattered as he never drove again in 22nd is Damon Hill Damon Hill had one of the most unorthodox career trajectories of any Formula One champion he debuted with the terminally ill brabham in 1992 age 31 while testing for Front Runners Williams who he then joined in 1993 won the title with them in 1996 was then dropped and joined the port in his storm that was arrows then joined Jordan in 1998. he gave the team their first win that year but things were not going well in 1999. the car was competitive but here was making errors and struggling to score points after he crashed at Montreal he announced his retirement at the end of the year and then almost retired immediately after teammate heinzel French and one in France at the season finale at Suzuka he qualified 12th with friends and fourth but early on had a spin and dropped to the back and on lap 21 pulled into the pits citing mental fatigue having completely checked out and no longer wanting to risk his safety in 21st is Emerson fittipaldi fittipaldi became the fourth former Champion to create his own Formula One team when he created fitipaldi Automotive along with older brother Wilson in 1974. he joined as a driver in 1976 and raced there for the next five seasons achieving two podiums but no wins he made the decision to retire at the end of 1980 as the burden of both driving for and managing the team was affecting his personal life at the season ending United States Grand Prix the final one held at Watkins Glen he qualified 19th with teammate Keke rosberg 14th and lasted only 15 laps before the suspension broke he ran fitzapaldi Automotive for another two years and then he joined a 12-year career in IndyCar winning it in 1989. the first driver to break the top 20 is Jacques real nerve was a sensation in his youth winning IndyCar in 1995 joining the front-running Williams in 1996 and narrowly losing the title on his first attempt before successively doing so in 1997. he joined the new bar team in 1999 with the intention of building it from the ground up into a fighting force as Michael Schumacher had done with Ferrari however this dream quickly sank like a lead balloon and aside from two podiums in 2001 there was little to shout about he left in 2003 joined Renault at the end of 2004 but did little to impress them then joined Sauber in 2005 but despite the fact he didn't like them and they didn't like him he stayed with them when they became BMW salary in 2006. from his perspective things were better but BMW were not impressed with his performances despite his scoring points four times at the German Grand Prix he qualified 14th ahead of teammate Nick heifeld in 16th a collision with Ralph Schumacher on the first lap however broke his front wing and dropped into the back and on lap 31 while running in 15th he crashed into the barriers at the suit curve he injured himself in the crash and as the team were looking for an opportunity to replace him with third driver Robert kubitza he decided to walk away rather than be involved as an experienced former champion in a shootout with a rookie in 19th is Nigel Mansell Mansell was a stalwart of the 1980s and twice just missed out on the title with Williams before eventually prevailing in a very convincing fashion in 1992 similar to Damon Hill four years later mantle was also dropped after his title Triumph and he moved to the states and won IndyCar in 1994 however a Williams in crisis brought him back only to drop him again for 1995 where he was tempted over to McLaren during pre-season testing it came to light the Mantle's large frame was ill-fitting for the very cramped car and so for the first two races test driver Mark Blundell raced for him while the cockpit was being enlarged he returned to immola and finished 10th and then at Barcelona he qualified 10th just behind teammate Mika hakanan he jumped to 14th at the start and mid-race started plummeting down the order and on lap 19 he pulled into the pits complaining of poor handling deciding he'd had enough with the substandard car he then walked away from formula one for good in 18th is James Hunt the shunt won a somewhat surprise title with McLaren in 1976 amidst his intense rivalry of Nikki louder after a poor title defense in 1977 and a largely fruitless 1978 he moved to Wolf in 1979. the car however was not competitive and also poorly constructed and in the first six races he saw the checkered flag just once at the Monaco Grand Prix he qualified 10th but dropped to 12 at the start and then lasted only five laps before the gearbox died and then decided to throw in the towel moving into commentary until his death from a heart attack in 1993. in 17th is Kimi raikkonen after winning the title in 2007 the Iceman indifferently drove his way through Ferrari WRC NASCAR Lotus and then Ferrari again before entering the retirement home that is Alfa Romeo in 2019. he announced that the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix which he was forced to miss due to covid the before the season started he had made the decision to retire at the end of the year by which point he had broken the record for most Grand Prix starts at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he qualified a slightly poor 18th half a second behind teammate Antonio jovanazi in 14th who was also retiring though much less willingly on the first lap he got himself up to 16th but after his first Pit Stop he went straight off into the barrys at turn six after the brakes failed and at long last he was left alone anyone remember anything else about that race in 16th is Mario Andretti andresi was the last driver to win a title with lotus and left them at the end of 1980s to join Alfa Romeo after just one year he left the team and formula one complaining of how extreme the ground effect casts were becoming in 1982 however he made a one-off appearance for Williams after Carlos wrote him and abruptly retired and at the end of the year joined Ferrari for two rounds following dizzy aperoni's career-ending crash at Monza he managed to get polar finish third and at the season finale at Caesar's Palace he qualified seventh past KK rosberg at the start and was running in fifth when the suspension failed on lap 27. Ferrari did not retain him for 1983 and he returned to the states for his second stint in IndyCar in 15th is Alan Jones won the title in 1980 and originally retired at the end of 1981 but still made a single appearance of arrows in 1983 and then a handful of races with hasselola at the end of 1985 before joining them full-time in 1986. the car was not competitive and only twice did he score any points suffering many retirements at the season finale in Adelaide he qualified 15th out of 26 drivers ahead of teammate Patrick Tom by in 17th he had a fantastic start and got up to 10th on the first lap and then further Advanced to eighth before the engine blew on lap 17. after this haslola folded and he made no attempts to join any other teams in 14th is Alberto ascari ascari achieved a 65 win rate when formula one was run to Formula 2 regulations in 1952 and 1953 winning the title both times with Ferrari following a dispute over his salary he left them for lancier in 1954. with them he only ran a part-time campaign and failed to finish a single race 1955 began with a crash in Argentina and three months later at the Monaco Grand Prix he qualified second with an identical time to defending Champion Juan Manuel fangio on Pole at the start he drops a fourth but eventually climbed to third behind fangio and Sterling Moss after fangio retired he moved to Second almost a lap down on Moss Moss's engine blew on lap 81 and Askari would have taken the lead but missed his breaking for what is now the nouvelle chicane and went through the hay bales and into the harbor the absence of seat belts met he was able to easily escape and swim to safety but the car sank to the bottom though it was later recovered only four days later 29 years and 10 months to the day after the death of his father Antonio in a crash at montelevi he went to watch Eugenio castellosi test the Ferrari 750 the two of them were pilots at the Monza 1000 kilometers but decided to do a few laps himself and went exiting what is now the ascari chicane lost control and was thrown from the somersaulting car and died a few minutes later in 13th is Jody Schechter schexer won the title with Ferrari in 1979 but in 1980 they plummeted down the grid and Schecter scored only two points and even failed to qualify in Canada deciding to retire after the finale of Watkins Glen along with fellow former Champion Emerson fitzapaldi here he just about made it onto the grid qualifying 23rd for a 25 car grid he had a strong start and jumped up to 17th on the first lap but made little progress after this and was being left increasingly isolated at the back in a race of high attrition and eventually finished three laps down in 11th out of 11 classified finishes in 12th is Jack frabham prabham started a popular Trend in the 60s and 70s of founding his own team and driving for them he however was the only one to achieve any real success in doing so when in 1966 he became the first and so far only driver to win the championship in his own car he initially made the decision to retire at the end of 1969 and sold his shares in the team to co-founder Ron taranok after injuring his first new Testing crash but as they were struggling to find any top-tier drivers to replace him he stayed on for another year at the season finale in Mexico City he qualified fourth he dropped a seventh at the start but climbed through and got up to Third on lap 15. he remained here until the engine blew on lap 53. he then did retire and left the team named after him after they signed Graham Hill in 11th is Nikki louder after winning his first two titles louder originally retired abruptly in mid-1979 as he no longer wanted to quote continue the silliness of driving around in circles but only three years later he returned now with McLaren and won his third title in 1984. 1985 did not go so well and was replete with breakdowns which meant he achieved only a single win and at the Austrian Grand Prix he announced his second retirement at the end of the season the season ended with the inaugural Australian Grand Prix he had a poor qualifying lining up 16th with teammate a newly crowned Champion Alan proston fourth in the race however Lauda stormed through the field taking advantage of his Superior machinery and the high attrition in the 35 degree heat and on lap 56 took the lead from isena only two laps later however his brakes failed at the end of the brabham strait and his career went off into the barriers the first driver to break the top 10 is Keke rosberg rosberg was a surprise title winner in 1982 the year nobody wanted to be champion he had done so with Williams and stayed with them until the end of 1985 and joined McLaren in 1986. his aggressive driving style did not suit a car designed for teammate Alan Frost's smooth driving and when Elio de angelis was killed in a Testing crash he decided to retire at the end of the year at the season-ending Australian Grand Prix which was also Alan Jones's final race his predecessor at Williams rosberg qualified seventh with Prost fourth but had an electrifying start and got up to third on the first lap then passed is instead of a second on lap two then took the lead from Nelson PK on lap 7. he built a commanding lead with the three title contenders PK mantle and Prost behind him however he then suffered a right rear tire failure on lap 63. he then revealed there was no intention of him winning the race as he had agreed to seed position to Prost if needed to help him secure the title which he did by winning in ninth is Sebastian Vettel our esteemed four-time Champion received a send-off worthy of a driver of his stature when he announced his retirement at the end of the season at the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix with tributes pouring in left right and Center as the day approached when the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix came vessel qualified ninth and that evening was joined for his track run by almost the entire Paddock he held ninth in the opening stint but on a One-Stop strategy the team were keeping him out too long and when he finally pitted from fourth he came out in 19th he was able to work his way back up past the two Stoppers but had lost a lot of time and even with a late retirement for Lewis Hamilton eventually finished in 10th just behind former teammate Daniel Ricardo in eighth is Nelson PK PK's third title came in 1987. he jumped from Williams at the right time but joined an only marginally better Lotus for 1988 and then an up-and-coming benaton for 1990. he won the final two races of 1990 and then took the final win of his career in Canada in 1991. in the second half of the Season he was joined by a rookie Michael Schumacher who started matching and occasionally beating him at the season finale in Adelaide PK qualified fourth just ahead of Schumacher but torrential rain came on race day and Schumacher got ahead of him but then spun off on lap 6 and only eight laps later the race was stopped with PK back and forth PK was released from his Benetton contract and had talks with Ferrari and legier about getting a seat for 1992 but instead decided to retire and return to Brazil in seventh is Mika hackington hakanin enjoys an iconic rivalry with Michael Schumacher at the tail end of his career in which he came out on top and took two titles in 1998 and 1999 but narrowly lost it to Schumacher in 2000 for 2001 he pledged to fight back and go for a third however this quickly became untenable and early on he had several crashes and breakdowns and Schumacher stormed ahead which eliminated any chances of this happening at the Italian Grand Prix he announced he would go on a sabbatical for 2002 falling out of love with the sports and not wanting to tempt fate having dodged it in several big crashes across his career he took his final victory at the next round Indianapolis and then at Suzuka where he had won his two titles he qualified Fifth and managed to pass Reuben spiracello and Ralph Schumacher on strategy but was passed by teammate David coolthard late in the race and finished fourth and it would be another six years before he officially retired in sixth is Michael Schumacher Schumacher shocked many when he announced he was returning to the Formula One Grid in 2010 just three years into his retirement there was huge anticipation and speculation over how the seven-time champion would perform now 41 years old three years out of practice in a Midfield Mercedes with slick tires over the next three seasons he failed to meet many people's expectations being resoundingly beaten by much younger teammate Nico rosberg in 2012 he had occasional flashes to his past such as his pole that was not meant to be at Monaco his podium in Valencia and fastest lap in Germany however questions were being raised over his age and mental strength as he was now 43 years old and had high profile collisions if Bruno Center in Barcelona and Jeanette Vernon in Singapore through his indecisiveness Lewis Hamilton took his seat in September for 2013 and in October Schumacher announced he would retire once again at the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix he qualified 14th in anticipation for Reign on Sunday this expected rain did eventually come but only five laps in Schumacher got a puncture and then three laps later had to pit again for intermediate tires dropping him to last after a mid-race safety car by which point the rain had stopped he was able to make good ground and then pitted at the perfect time when the rain came again and climbed to sixth he sportingly let through process a Sebastian vessel on route to his third title and ended his career with Seventh Place his first points in seven races and seven championships keep fighting Michael in fifth is one Manuel fangio artifancio won his fifth driver's title in 1957 with Maserati Maserati then withdrew from formula one but allowed drivers to continue to run their cars as Privateer entries refangio did just this while also beginning to wind down his career he finished fourth at the Argentine Grand Prix then made an attempt to enter the Indy 500 as his Rivals Alberto Askari and Giuseppe Farina had previously done and then decided the French Grand Prix would be his final competitive race here he qualified eighth and was running in fifth in the closing stages however at the last minute race leader Mike Hawthorne allowed fan Geo to unlap himself in order to complete the full race distance and after Peter Collins crashed on the final lap fangio then finished fourth by the time he died in 1995 he still held the record for most drivers championships and was one of the last surviving drivers of his generation with six of the other drivers in that race dying within three years of it including Luigi Musso the following day after crashing into a ditch in the race itself in fourth is Alan Prost left McLaren at the end of 1989 after his arrival revius and Senna reached breaking point and moves a Ferrari but after he and Cena came to blows again at the end of 1990 and the team built a dog of a car in 1991. he was fired with One race remaining for publicly trashing the team and was paid a large Severance fee to prevent him driving for anyone else in 1992. he secured a seat with Williams for 1993 having scared off former team at Nigel Mansell which had also been lined up by Senna though prosta put a clause in his contract that prevented Senna being his teammate Williams had dominated in 1992 and this continued in 1993 and Prost secured his fourth title at the Portuguese Grand Prix and here he announced he would retire at the end of the year as his anti-center Clause would then expire at the season-ending Australian Grand Prix qualified second behind Center and eventually finished nine seconds behind him at the podium ceremony Senna brought Prost up onto the top step signaling a Reconciliation between the two in what was prost's final race and Cena's final win Podium points and classified finish before his death six months later in third is Mike Hawthorne relatively early into his career Hawthorne became a Ferrari factory driver and the semi-retirement of Juan Manuel fangio in 1958 left a void he was able to fill that year he won only a single race finished second four times and got five fastest laps including his main rival Sterling Moss appealing to have his disqualification from second in Portugal overturned which meant he had a comfortable eight-point lead going into the final round in Morocco here he took his fourth pole position of the Season ahead of moss he dropped a third behind moss and Phil Hill on the first lap but on lap 39 got back past Hill and just about held him off to finish second though he was some 1 minute and 25 seconds behind Moss however with the best six results from the 11 races counting his one win and five second places with four fastest laps to Moss's four wins and one second place with three fastest laps was enough for him to secure the title by one point and become Britain's first drivers champion he then immediately announced his retirement at the age of 29 and began writing a series of children's books about motor racing only two of those were completed however before his death in a road traffic accident on the hogsback in Surrey three months later four years earlier he had lost a kidney to infection and was having problems with the other at the time and it is believed that without the accident he may have lived only another three years [Music] in second is Nico rosberg when rosberg and Lewis Hamilton became teammates in 2013 they began an intense rivalry akin to proston Center as Mercedes came to dominate the hybrid era in 2014 and 2015 it was Hamilton however that came out on top in an especially convincing fashion in the latter in 2016 rosberg had the early Advantage with Harrelson's races often being compromised by poor race starts after they took each other out on the first lap in Barcelona Hamilton then started closing the Gap including another Collision in Austria this time on the final lap rosberg then hit back however after the summer break having gone through intense therapy to help him with the mental stress of competing against Hamilton and also stopping cycling and removing paint from his helmet in order to save weights he won four of the next five races which included an extremely costly engine failure for Hamilton however rosberg finished second to Hamilton in the next three races which meant going into the final round of Abu Dhabi he had a 12 point lead over Hamilton meaning all he had to do to be Champion was either beat Hamilton or finish third or higher here rosberg qualified second behind Hamilton and stuck with him in the first stint after their first pit stops rosberg found Max verstappen in between him and Hamilton he managed to pass verstappen in a very high risk move on lap 20 and then started going after Hamilton again
