welcome back to the channel youtube fans we're going to be doing a little bit of raking today and then i'm going to show you how to hook up a square baler how to do basic maintenance on it things like that and then we'll probably have some bailing to finish up this video i'm going to show you a tractor that the channel hasn't seen yet but it's attractive that's pretty special to me this is a tractor that means a lot to me this was my grandpa's ford 601 work master i've got two gas tractors and one diesel this is the other gas tractor and then my dad's 4000 is a gas too no more than what i do gas tractors don't really seem to affect fuel cost any now if it was a big time farming operation yeah you're definitely better off with diesel tractors um this is a three-point hitch new holland roller bar rake i literally just bought this thing yesterday um i had a 55 model pull behind rake like this one but the problem is when i get to the end of the row it just seemed like it was just so hard to clean up and make it look neat so i'm hoping like when i can get to the end of the row i can just pick it up and then come back and finish everything at the end so um what we're going to do we're going to set this thing on the ground and we're going to see if we can get it adjusted one cool thing about these uh older ford tractors they have a little slide here that you can set the desired set down height you want and you never have to worry about where you set it at again so we're gonna set it about right here one twist or down so now what i'll do whenever i pick it up i don't ever have to worry about setting it down to the wrong spot because it catches on that let's make sure we're not dragging the ground anywhere everything looks like it's uh good for takeoff let's see what it'll do so far i'm really impressed with it one thing a little bit different about this one that i've noticed with the corners this rake tracks directly behind you so you kind of can't really swing corners because then it'll make the road really really sharp for your vape so i'll kind of show you what i'm doing up here now this is kind of going to be a goofy spot anyways so i want to kind of not really cut it that sharp and i'll just take my losses because with my baler you can't really turn it the sharpest some of your newer square boilers have got like cv joints and the u-joints uh but this is old school all right guys got her all raked up i figured out with this rake you're probably better off which i guess with any rake you're always better off doing this but i thought i could do it this way i started out making my circles and i'll just come to the end well the problem is is that it started leaving scraps whenever i got out here to turn around so uh i just started going back and forth and now what i'm doing is i'm just cleaning up my scraps here you'll kind of see what i'm talking about see my rows end right there and all i'm doing is just making one big row out of these scraps left right here and then it should come together with this voila different people have different opinions and different things about doing uh raking and stuff like that if you have a big capacity square baler you can about double them up but it seems like that mine always does better if i just do single windrows now of course some of these here on the end they're a little bit bigger but what i'll have to do is uh i'll just have to drop a gear and just go slow so what i'm going to do now is i'm going to go eat some lunch uh drink me maybe a watermelon mountain dew that sounds good and uh we'll hook up our baler we'll grease it and i'll see y'all just a few yeah got the thing in root beer sounded awfully good got my chain lube it's like a synthetic chain lube that came from my dad's work back in the 80s or 90s um works pretty good prevailer chain it kind of it's like a synthetic grease that sticks to it so we'll go down here and we'll put this bubby up and uh go ahead and get the brown out got the duramax still hooked up from yesterday when i went and bought that rake um i'm just gonna leave the trailer on the truck and we'll probably haul some with the truck a little later on in this video well we got my dismal run hooked for the time being um it's a little janky i guess how i've got it hooked up i've got it scotched up here with a piece of wood and i've got it to make sure that my arms are level i mean if you don't scotch this thing up just right it's a pain in the butt to hook back up so we'll see see how that works and no i don't keep all my stuff outside um my disc mower rake stuff like that tedder usually sits outside while i'm mowing hay but once i get done i put everything up but my baler always goes up so maybe one of these days when i get a little bit more money we can build more shed space so if you're going to farm this right here is going to be one of your best friends equipment that's not maintained is equipment that don't last i recommend these pistol grips especially whenever you're working with a square baler a square baler with electric goose gun is a no-no because if you put too much grease in your knotters your knotters will not work properly so all you need to do with these you just like half a half pump um i've put about 800 bales on this since i've greased it anywhere from 500 to 1000 go ahead and grease it if you're using it regularly but if you're not using it regularly just degrease it every time you use it now these are your knotters and before we get started actually bailing i'm going to blow all this off with a leaf blower because dirty knotters won't work either but i'm gonna here's always a good tip anytime you're greasing something say for instance the grease zerk right here which like i said i already know where they're at because i've known i know the machine just take your finger and wipe the majority of the chaff and dust and stuff off of it before you start trying to pump grease into it because if you don't you're just pumping grease into um into the actual assembly what happens is you've got a set of needles down here and these needles have got your twine and all of a sudden whenever the bell it it kind of counts itself off this thing right here as it spins it raises up this arm and whenever it gets to your desired bell length this arm drops and when it drops it throws these needles up and the knotters grab the twine ties the knot all within like half a second it's amazing at how it works um i don't know if i can set my phone back here some way and actually video it or not but we may try to do that so i'm gonna go ahead and get this grease there's a few things here we'll pull it outside we'll blow it off we'll all our chains and we'll go ahead and get started another tip you can do get your rag and just go ahead and clean off all your alamites while you're at it instead of just using your finger but you know if i hadn't found the rag i was probably just going to use my finger whenever you uh whenever you farm you just kind of got to make dude so i'm gonna go ahead and clean off all these alamots and i'll show you how much grease needs to really be put in them and like i said if you know your machine that's one thing uh but if you don't really know your machine and you don't know where all your grease zerks are or your alamites you need to make sure you figure all that out before you start actually trying to use them because if you're not careful you will you'll miss a couple all right so we're gonna take our grease gun one or two pumps that's all it takes and i like the pistol grip because you can use you can use one hand to hold the actual um greaser see right there i put too much if you see grease coming out like that you've put too much in your knotter so just go ahead and wipe that off but make sure that you don't get it on anything else so [Music] [Music] um [Music] um [Music] now i know what you're thinking you're probably thinking brandon why do you have a block of wood on your hay baler what you do is you put this block of wood in front of your wheel and you pull that string right there and it allows the whole thing to fold out now it's in transport mode right here but whenever we get to the field we'll take this block of wood out and we'll put it in work mode let's check our twine while we're back here oh yeah we've got plenty for no more than what we're gonna do so [Music] okay let's check our fuel and uh we'll head on over to the field had this baler for probably two years now i guess my uncle had told me about it it was underneath the tarp up in a uh i guess it'd be more like a community a couple counties above me and uh he told me he said it may be worth going and checking on i said well if it's on a tarp or if it's under a tarp it probably isn't but anyways i went and looked at it and when i seen the ford emblem right there i knew it was worth looking at he was selling it for an older guy who had alzheimer's uh he started like taking off the shoes the jack things like that and hiding it and his kids said that they better just sell them so i found the baylor and i've bailed probably about 4 000 miles with it so far and it has just been an awesome machine but they only stay awesome if you take care of them all right now let me show you what we're going to do with this block here my neighbor's cows got out i guess it was yesterday you can see i split a cow patty wide open so we're just gonna kind of prop it under that tar right there [Applause] seat needs some wd-40 on it we're gonna put the tractor in here and we're gonna pull this string and that string pulls a latch and you'll watch it as we get and it just clicks so now we're ready to bail some hay you're at least in the position too i'm gonna hold my chains and everything and i'll show you how we're gonna do that i guess we can go ahead and put our chute down a lot of this stuff is kind of difficult to do one-handed it's definitely intriguing too high let's try that one probably too low now this one's too high that one over there is actually about right so what we're going to do we're going to try to match this one up seems like you can never really get them perfectly matched i'm gonna set this down for just a second oh upside down onions okay and then what we're going to do here this is how you tension your bell down and i'm just going to kind of give it three four one two three four let's do five and what that does that keeps tension on the bale there's one more thing i wanted to show you all too there's a plunger stop under here or plunger break whatever people want to call it it's this thing right here and uh what it does is it kind of moves back and forth if if something happens with your plunger it uh it basically keeps your plunger from from working but always uh i just always shoot a little grease up in there and shoot a little around this way just enough to keep it greased up here's how we're going to oil our chains i've got the pto on just barely idling and there is a chain back in there so we're going to see if we can get it with this lube all right we got that one there's one that runs right here we're gonna hit him with some lube too and there's one big one that runs up here now the thing about square belt especially with your tension could be right could be wrong so what you gotta do you gotta try a little and see where it goes from there all right so i'm satisfied with it strings are tight nice 45 pound bail what i'm going to do i want to set my counter to zero and i think i've got one two three four five six already in the field three four six and i've got one in the chamber so i'm gonna do seven [Music] square brother makes her talk every time you hear that grunt there's a plunger in there that's just packed in hay [Applause] [Music] [Music] we're making progress we're making progress here i just had somebody come and pick up 40 miles i'm going to put the rest on a trailer got a buddy from church that's supposed to be coming this evening to help us [Music] so so we finished up that field over there at the creek what i'm going to do i've got three or four bales that was kind of want to fall apart on me um i had some people that bought some hay and i i guess i just haven't didn't have attention the way i should have so i'm going to re-bail those bells here on like on the ground and i'm going to set my phone up here and try to put it in slow-mo and try to catch how the knotters work so so well she's all back in the barn uh there was one more chain that i forgot to mention on camera over there at the pickup there is also a roller chain that goes on that side i guess that's what i get for getting in a hurry trying to film so there was a glimpse of my haying operation i wanted to get some videos loading but by the time we got everything loaded it was just we were more worried about getting loaded rather than taking videos but thanks for watching the video there'll be maybe some more farming videos coming along now that i have some time off work hope you guys enjoyed please like and subscribe
