Rain Bird's RWS series root watering systems are the superior choice for
irrigating trees and shrubs. The RWS allows water, air and nutrients
to reach root systems directly, taking compacted soil out of the equation. This means three important benefits that
you need to consider for your next project. First, the RWS protects the investment made
in trees and shrubs. Deep and broad roots yield transplantation survivability, stability
and high winds and fast and healthy growth. Second, the RWS saves water because it
uses subsurface low emitting bubblers that minimize evaporation, runoff and erosion. And third, it installs it grade and
protects your hardscapes from root damage. Available in three sizes, this full-featured line
has a solution for all your root watering needs. Right away, you notice the 14,000
openings in the perforated RWS tube. These help deliver water oxygen and
nutrients directly to the root system. The RWs and RWs Mini feature a locking grate that
protects your irrigation hardware from vandalism. For fast and easy connection to lateral lines, most RWS models come with a
factory installed swing pipe. The factory pre-configured mini and supplemental
models come with a spiral barb elbow. For flexibility, most models come
pre-configured with bubblers and check valves. The RWS and RWSM are compatible with
low volume drip line and emitters. For sandy and silty soil conditions,
our optional sand sock for the RW s and RW s mini helps to prevent clogging
even in the harshest sand environments. There's also a version for non potable water. Let's take a closer look at how the
RWS systems work. Once turned on, water fills the lateral pipe, the full-circle bubbler disperses the
water filling the root watering system thousands of openings deliver water directly where
the tree needs it deep within its root system. Once the watering cycle is complete,
an optional pre-installed check valve protects the system against backflow.
By distributing water horizontally to the trees root network, the RWS promotes deep robust
root growth resulting in healthy, beautiful trees and because the roots grow downward, they're
protected from lawn maintenance equipment. When installing the RWS, you may choose
to install it on a separate zone because it has different water requirements than
other irrigation components such as sprays. Also if you're only using the RWS to help
establish a young or transplanted tree, you may want to turn the RWS
off completely in the future. For trees and shrubs on drip lines, the RWS has
a special clip to connect quarter-inch drip line To help reinforce the RWS
against the squeeze of roots, you can fill the canisters with pea gravel.
This also encourages even water distribution. Not only does the RWS distribute water to the root
network, it provides excellent aeration as well. The roots have constant access to fresh air and
oxygen. Available in three sizes (standard mini and supplemental) Rain Bird root watering series
offers solutions for all your root watering needs. The standard 36 inch RWS
model is best for larger trees The smaller RWS mini with its
18 inch tube is designed for large shrub and smaller tree applications. For shrubs and row plantings, the 10 inch RW s supplemental model is
the optimum choice for root watering. When installing the RWS or RWS Mini, make sure the
units are evenly spaced around the root system. For existing trees or mature tree transplants, position the units near or just inside
the outer edge of the tree canopy. To determine how many units you'll
need, take into consideration the size of the tree or large shrub, the
soil and its watering requirements. Rainbird recommends a minimum of two to
three units for each tree or large shrub. When transplanting trees, the hole
should be larger than the root ball large enough to accommodate
two to three RWS units. The hole edges and the adjacent soil should
be loosened to help the roots expand the RWS unit should be placed outside the root ball
in order to create a target for the roots. During the trees initial years,
above ground watering could supplement the RWS underground watering.
As the tree matures, above ground watering could be moved further from the trunk
away from the root ball like a donut. Depending on the environment and climate, once trees are mature root watering
and rain may be all that is required. In fact in some climates, rain may be
all that is needed. Position the units vertically with their top at ground level
The RWS requires a hole depth of 36 inches and for the RWS mini, you'll
need a hole 18 inches in depth. Rainbird RWS supplemental unit is
designed for shrub root watering. As with the larger models, RWS should be
evenly spaced around the shrubs root system. Rainbird recommends using
one to two units per shrub. Some installations can require more than
2r w s units depending on your shrub size, type, and watering requirements.
When using the RW s supplemental in a row application it's best to
evenly spaced the units as shown. RWS systems are preassembled and ready
to install, providing an immediate and complete solution for landscape architects,
specifiers, distributors, and contractors. Rain Bird RWS series root watering
systems can be an ideal complement to any existing drip system with its
integrated quarter-inch drip line clip. When you combine efficient RWS
series root watering systems with other award-winning Rain Bird irrigation products, landscape professionals and clients
