RACE to Heathrow Airport | Is the ELIZABETH LINE faster than Heathrow Express and taxi?

not cheap 75 pounds which is quite a lot for a single trip to the airport if you've got a family rather than getting four tickets it's a good deal good morning it's race day today and today we're racing from central london here in sunny oxford circus to heathrow so it's the first day of the elizabeth line today so i'm gonna take the elizabeth line i'm taking the heathrow express that should be kind of quick and ben how are you going i'm gonna take a taxi well we're gonna see who's quickest but we need to get off so i think we go in three two one let's go [Music] here we go okay so the time is 7 42. i should be at paddington in under 10 minutes and then it's just about getting on the heathrow express train as soon as i possibly can and hopefully getting there first [Music] the cows are coming down but they can't stop and none of them have their lights on this is why i take uber no time to enjoy their scot run it's nice though [Music] fingers crossed this one will stop for me because i'm wasting a lot of time it's been at least five minutes of trying to get a cab and really did not think it would take this long okay so this is what we're gonna have to do with this is tottenham court road here bond street not yet open we get to paddington walk and from paddington we can take the train down to terminals two and three at heathrow [Music] all right we might be on here yep okay so i've got one to stop right i have a cab stopped i'll just check he can take me to heathrow hello could you take me to heathrow terminal 2. thank you so much [Music] okay seeing a sign here this is all gonna be in the speed i'm just gonna have to sprint at all costs at all times okay we're through the barriers um do i know where i'm going not really but that beautiful purple sign that just kind of everywhere all going the wrong way here we go [Music] [Music] okay well look at that into a lovely big bright expansive paddington station plenty of time i'm gonna walk over to the heathrow express area now um let's see how long it is until my trade departs i believe there is a train in just under 15 minutes so i'm going to try and get that one so you can actually save a bit of money by paying for the heathrow express in advance if you know when you're going to be flying but for convenience today i'm just going to tap in and get on my way there's a train and it leaves in five minutes four minutes i just want to set my eyes on that platform and then i'll can relax a bit because i don't know where these platforms are [Music] okay slight bit of confusion over the platform and because when you look at the board and it says heathrow it can be elizabeth line or the heater express or the normal train service but i managed to work out which was which anyway platform 11. here it is uh the train leaves in actually about six or seven minutes i'm gonna have a chance to get on board and have a proper look around it looks pretty empty on there but apart from the fact i'm sweating so far so good [Music] i'm glad i didn't draw the short straw and have to take either the heather express or the new elizabeth line today for two reasons it is bucketing down outside so i'm nice and dry in my black cab and also i've got quite a lot of luggage i'm off to stockholm today so going up and down all those stairs in peak hour with luggage is not much fun this is definitely a more luxurious way to get to the airport so obviously the benefit of taking black cab um over other forms of transport you've got so much space here got this beautiful big car all to myself loads of room to move around stretch out plenty of room for my luggage don't have to share it with anyone else certainly more comfortable and convenient and easy than jumping on a tube or the heathrow express with lots of other people okay so here is my heathrow express service looking fairly empty you know this is all very relaxing very calm i've got 10 minutes before the train departs and it should get me in to heathrow terminal 2 at 8 25 which is just 15 minutes from paddington to the terminal which is pretty damn speedy and i think it's gonna be speedier than anyone else which is the most important thing today so i think it's time to get aboard [Music] okay so as you can see the trains just started moving we are on roof city through terminal 2 should only be about 15 minutes from here so it's going to be a pretty speedy journey and what i know that you know people express is a bit pricier than the elizabeth line or the piccadilly life for example you do get that added level of comfort you can see i've got you know two big seats here there's even a charging port to charge your road if you want to and it just feels like you know that luxury experience so suddenly my journey's become incredibly relaxing because i'm on the train we've got about five minutes before it sets off it's air-conditioned it's cool there's nobody here there's a variety of lovely seating options and this train is going to whisk me straight from paddington to heathrow terminal 2 but a much cheaper price than heathrow express now while the heathrow express is a little bit quicker the frequency can be a bit more if you get the timing right maybe i've got a chance against liam because if he hasn't made the train that just went now on the heathrow express he's gonna have to wait another potentially 15 or more minutes to get the next train so i could be another shot [Music] so making really good time out did take me a little bit of time to hail the cab um but now i mean we are moving quickly less traffic than i thought there would be so far another benefit of taking a car to heathrow is that i am racing liam and nikki to the departures area of terminal 2 which is right up the top they're going to be arriving underground and i have to take the lift up mini flights to get up to the top whereas i'm going to be dropped right outside so i'm gonna give the boys a call now i'm well on my way so now i'm in with a fighting chance no delays so far and i want to see how they're getting on hello lads how's it going it's going going very well here i'm steaming steaming through the country at a very good pace i'm feeling good about my chances right now making very good time and um i'm optimistic that i'm gonna be the winner um i am steaming through west london getting closer and closer to heathrow i got a train pretty quickly the change was alright i was pouring with sweat but i think i think i'm i think i'm on track i think i could be all right here it's going to be a mad sprint to the finish but i think i've got this well seeing the departures okay we've just got to heat grow terminals two and three that was so quick i almost didn't realize that we'd arrived to be a mad dash now i have arrived at heathrow airport thank you so much we help right the race to the finish line i'm gonna run as quickly as i can here we go here we go [Music] okay so we've just tapped out 25 pounds from paddington and peter express not the cheapest but is it going to be the quickest let's see can't see anybody yet all right we're arriving just ducking weaving throughout all these people if i've got any chance of beating them i'm gonna have to run so run i'm gonna do about a minute away now got to the last barrier that i need to get through now i just need to make this final sprint to the finish okay we're on the right level have we done enough though i'm sprinting sprinting now to the entrance i can't see anyone i think i've made it i think i'm here first can't see lee my nikki is anyone here oh no oh no look who it is right outside terminal 2. i thought that i was i was cruising but at least i haven't come last that's amazing looking around now i can see the finish line i can't see a ben or a liam or car or can i i tried my best which means not only did i not win i fully fully lost nice of you to join us hi hello well done who won come on man yeah but you're poor now though okay so i've just caught my breath i'm with the boys i was the loser um but let's take a look at a summary of this experience cost mine was definitely the cheapest at 12.50 cap fares on tfl from anywhere in london you're not going to pay a lot of money for the elizabeth line comfort it was so nice air conditioned smooth easy ride i actually loved it fresh new trains new stations and finally there's speed i forgot that one because that's the one that is terrible at i lost so that says everything you need to know um so the heathrow express in terms of cost it was 25 pounds for a one-way peak fare you can get that cheaper if you're booking advance it's definitely worth doing that comfort you cannot really improve you have loads of moves to stretch out in there are charging points for your laptop your phone really really spacious and then speed it was the second fastest today i reckon if i just got the service maybe a minute before i could have beaten ben by some way so pretty close so i was surprised that i actually won i thought liam would i had a really really easy run once i got my cab took a good five minutes to actually hail one down which was the hardest part of the day but then it was less than 40 minutes hardly any traffic straight through drop me right outside here not cheap 75 pounds which is quite a lot for a single trip to the airport if you've got a family rather than getting four tickets it's a good deal but definitely comfortable and luxurious way to travel to heathrow okay by thumbs up or thumbs down would you take your mode of transport again one two three oh
