Race Highlights | 2023 British Grand Prix

year 16th on the grid Yuki sonoda and then Sergio Perez who missed Q3 for a fifth successive race in the Red Bull Logan Sergeant starts 14 Esteban if you're a racing driver all three of the tire compounds are represented on the start grid and it's George Russell and Sith going for the soft Max verstappen has he got a chance today to try and get past his good Mateen can he hold the Red Bull up I think you know away from that grid slot but you know there's so little between them in terms of now the systems they've got to get away trying to emulate Johnny Herbert here at Silverstone this afternoon and don't discount out Sergio Perez from being right there in the podium places in the latter stages of this race certainly Mercedes and Ferrari thinking that he could come landonara's pointing hard right must be a good 20 30 degrees then tries to come across and cuddle back to the Stafford Oscar piastro tries to die for the inside Lando Norris leads the British [Applause] so much space on the inside No Doubt remembering the horrible crash he had there with Lewis Hamilton Hamilton is down to Ninth Place and George Russell make it Alonso Hamilton gasly and albon is dropped down two places stroll up one okona wants to know that another good start from him up three places now no DRS the two laps after the start of a Grand Prix he know how powerful that rear wing opening over a second clear of Max Mustafa the Red Bull tends to take a while to top three in this rookie season and showing just why McLaren placed their faith in him to take over from Danny Ricardo for this season Max must happen just closing by a few thousandths of a second the Gap it shows just 300 a second slower on reaction time but I have to say that McLaren found a lot more grip a lot more purchase in the traction away from the line and that's not the first time this weekend we've seen a drive a couple of miles an hour more for the rebel because it's so efficient Here Comes verstappen Norris holds him off going into Brooklyn's London Harris is a bright land he knows he'll have to start deploying his battery oh he's gone a little bit wide through leftfield but it does give him a better exit last time McLaren led a British Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton in 2012. last time McLaren finished off the podium in a British Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton in 2010 here in 2023 it's McLaren one bit more grip out of the corners and while Lando Norris has been passed by Max verstappen he's got it right behind these two trying to get it on the ax LeClaire ahead of Russell ahead of science not much to separate them and she's been putting some pretty handy times in behind Norris Norris now must desperately stay within a second of the staff to Martin harvesting once more at the end of the old pitch straight now what magic toeing along both of the McLarens as Hamilton wants more tries to find a gap tries to find some space to get past Fernando Alonso and wants more will end the lap right behind the gearbox of the Aston Martin and you can see the turbulence how it is goes right across Paris there somehow they don't make contact but somehow Paris and Norris at the end of lap seven six ten sent back to Oscar Fiesta pulling a bit weird is fairly variable Max it's an old Airfield here and the wind does up and then picks up the front wing damage and has to change his whole strategy it's going to be uphill from here just looking down the Mercedes when are they going to bring George Russell in a lot of the stretches think that soft tire can only do 10 laps before you need to change it get rid of those soft compound tires Zach Brown and the CEO at McLaren is watching on for the pit wall and he's our special guest this afternoon at the British Grand Prix uh Zach you've led the British Grand Prix uh it was a great start from Lando nice yeah so just having a look at what the issue was with Esteban ocon I'm going to hear from the team very short team radio okay we're expecting some lightish rain in around two or three minutes will last three or four minutes will that be enough after a hugely disappointing Austria where he picked up five penalties during the course of a race and never ran to the point system and ocon out of the British Grand Prix uh by the time we get to lap 10. there's the weather radar I've actually have had a a small step backwards as well because it's a it's a moving Target you're aiming at there you almost gave me the impression around in RC was struggling to remember what lap uh what plan a was in the course of this race it was just searching for that information uh I think what he had the one minute 32s as the few low goes down karoon yeah just keep an eye on Lewis Hamilton guys Mercedes of dolanda the soft tie on Georgia's cars hanging he's up there at about 180 miles an hour in the middle of cops Corner uh we had a nice little wiggle onto the hangar straight you get some slipstream he's got the DRS open he's not exactly cruising up to the gearbox about foreign McLaren Pierre gasly has DRS he is definitely trying to get past Fernando Alonso but the Alpine hasn't got the speed against the Aston Martin down the streets even with DRS and Orlando then two track indiscretions in glass past that Ferrari in a few moments time Ferrari the team with the most wins at the British Grand Prix 15 in total Russell starting to catch Leclair and a race of NOS what about Sergio Perez George Russell's still trying to get past Charlotte Claire yeah he's pretty static there isn't he so uh yeah Perez a very quickly dispatched 18. the alpha Max and staff and he just started lap 18 out of 52. threat of rain in the air bright sunshine in other parts of the track Max verstappen leading the race and we are thinking of Plan B Plan B that was Fluffy yeah and then you're not because if there's a late safety car they will unquashingly want to put some soft tires on towards the air for the end of the race karoon chandock let's head to you they told Landon Norris but 100 Pace guys so keep an eye he might be coming in sometime soon his reply was conversation this afternoon because I don't think Ferrari were his race even before Charlotte Clair pitch yeah but interestingly I mean the Ferrari is way behind him so he would have seen that on a big screen for the a fan screen somewhere that they were coming in the pit Lane did you have those facts depending on what tire you're going on to here the hard compound Tire can struggle a bit with warm-up if you're going on to the mediums I think it's a good undercut racer soft compound it's a good undercut race but the hard not not so much so yeah interestingly need to respond to Ferrari pulling the trigger on the pit stops I'm seeing it's a pit stroll and he can start to move up the field a little bit but you're right that that lap time and another one is just crossed the line now 1328 that might be his best lap of this race but he's four tenths behind last roll on that last uh particular George Russell pits right now he comes out ahead of charl declare not the undercut the overcut for George Russell that's our last science through the first sector just a few hundredths in there respective times as past the the technology uh college and the grandstands towards cops they come one a little bit too close uh karoon Chandon let's head to you London always saying the ties are starting to drop off they are all pushing for that One-Stop trophy yeah inconsistently in contrast there's a lot of conversation between Jose Manuel Lopez um the the concern I think they'll all have is watching Charles Leclair with a brand new set of hard compound tires he's not exactly flying along is he it's just sort of solid really he came out in 12th uh this particular circuit missing Silverstone that's good news for us all and that's good news Michelle Leclair too he's up into 11th place now the Aston Martin didn't hold him up but to be fair a lot stall isn't really fighting uh anyone coming out of it there's a shiny set of hard compound tires waiting for the Ferrari foreign foreign foreign
