[Music] in the 65 years since it first opened its doors watkins clinton international has hosted and challenged many of motorsports best today the drivers of fanatec gt world challenge america powered by aws have their chance to join that prestigious lineage as sro america's premier racing series roars into upstate new york hello everyone my name is ryan marine calvin fish is alongside it is a pleasure to have your company here from one of north america's iconic road racing venues watkins glen and just to see what kind of challenge this place presents let's go on board with right motorsports driver john haywood with our porsche track preview hi my name is jan halen welcome to the porsche track preview here at watkins glen coming on to the front straightaway crossing start finish getting ready to break downhill into turn one deep on the brakes hitting that apex and then watch for track limits here on the exit of turn one getting ready to turn into the famous assets here at watkins glen really fun part of the track in this porsche gt3r going up the hill no lift here on to the back straightaway and then getting ready to break into the bus stop deep on the brakes here close to the 150 signboard and then hard over the curbs here into the bus stop and then back to power into the carousel carousel one of the faster corners on the track hard in small tap on the brake and then quickly back to power so much downforce here from the car really fun deep on the brakes here into turn six lots of camber here from the track back to power using up all that exit and then same for turn seven lots of camber here from the track so you can really drive it in deep and then accelerating up the hill ready to get onto this little back stretch into turn eight turn eight one of the best places to overtake uh if you're in a hot battle breaking down the hill again apexing the corner and then watch for track limits here on the exit and then breaking up the hill for turn nine turn nine being the slowest corner on the track and you'll see not much room for error here on the exit right next to that wall and then into turn 10 which is the fastest corner on the track over a hundred mile an hour using all that exit curb pushing the car back over to the left ready for turn 11 last corner small tap on the brake and then exiting right next to that wall onto the front straightaway and that was a lap at watkins glen that's one lap these drivers are about to do 90 minutes of racing here at watkins glen the starting grid on the screen for this the next round of the fanatec gt world challenge america powered by aws it will be andrea calderelli for capex racing starting on pole john hayward who gave us that tour starts alongside top qualifier out of the pro-am ranks miquel grenier gets the start for windward racing alongside matt mcmurray then in row three michael cooper from dxdt racing and his buddy robbie foley in the turner motorsport bmw giovanni venturini mired down the starting order in seventh for k-packs he'll have ryan dial from dxdt alongside row nine consists of giacomo altoid for the tr3 racing and jacob abel who along with taylor hagler were winners yesterday for racers edge motorsports in the pro-am class conrad grootwald on the am class pull the number 61 for af corsa madison snow starts 12th for zay loose motorsports drew stavely and vesco kozerov for ian lacy racing and reardon racing respectively making up the final row of the grid already the field's starting to come into alignment calvin yesterday's race had a lot of good battles up and down the field we're in store for more of the same i think so and i think certainly for yann hales who starts alongside andrea calderelli in that lamborghini for capex starting from the pole he wants to make a quick start he got very frustrated yesterday and getting stuck in traffic here comes the field through turn 11 on the final of the two formation laps waiting for the green flag starter tom hansing awaiting the field he's got the green flag in hand it waves andrea caldarelli leads the field to green and it's three wide three rows deep in the field here comes giovanni vinterini charging up the inside of the green k-packs car three wide there with matt mcmurray in the middle outs away around the outside michael grenier great start there for windward racing number 33 car getting that mercedes inside of yann halen just don't talk about him wanting to start he didn't get a good one someone who did that was robbie foley from the third row of the grid look at him making moves here they're both going to the inside as they defend down into the inner loop and he's in the slope stream they're trying to follow the right he's got to push it through grenier is dropping like a stone that's the windward racing mercedes a winner earlier this year at vir he's dropped to the back of this field number 33 car in strife early pole sitter andrea calderelli has been able to pull away from outside pole sitter john heywood this is the car in strife mikhail grenier the canadian i wonder if he cut down the tires really tight there as they went through turn one so he's certainly idling around the racetrack right now there's robbie fowley coming off a p2 finish here yesterday with michael dinan which has left them up in the second in the points putting the pressure on here the number 96 liquid molly bmw for turner already up three positions from his sixth place starting position that bmw yesterday was rapid on starts and restarts more of the same today certainly looks that way nice start for michael cooper as well he's a native of new york state he didn't race here until 2018 as we now see the windward racing car taking the shortcut from turn five over to turn nine but he's stranded there so i think he may have a bigger issue than maybe just a cut down tire like giacomo altoy also at a good start for tr3 that's the white lamborghini coming through the shot right there up a couple of positions as he made the move around the outside the long way around in turn number one look at that camera angle showcasing the speed here at watkins glen this is a high speed high grip high commitment race track and it is certainly displayed there on the exit the final corner another guy who had a good start was true stavely he's up to seventh and ian lacy racing's car the aston martin up six positions there matt mcmurray dropped considerably down the order he's now ninth in the compass racing acura that's a little bit further back here we go though cooper under attack giacomo altoway he was on the defense all race long yesterday now he's the aggressor he certainly is and look at this second of the capex entry they struggle with handling here yesterday they're mined in the pack once again they can't seem to find the speed and the handling in that car right now calderelli by 1.3 seconds over john haywood here in the early stages at watkins glen international [Music] number six car the sister car to the pole sitting car and leading car out of the k-packs racing stable just up ahead of this battle here drew stable who got that great jump now coming under attack it's the veteran ryan dial trying to plot his way by been a frustrating couple of rounds for ryan d allen the dxdt machine because they had handling issues at road america they came for a test here following that race weekend identified there was a setup issue but he had a qualifying run yesterday put in pa feed grad 500th of a second he'd have been b4 on the grid that's how tight it was drew stapley and he and lacy racing coming off their best weekend to date since taking the step up to fanatek gt world challenge america powered by aws that was two weeks ago at road america where he showed just how good he can be right now keeping dial at bay and trying to run down the other capex racing car giovanni venturini lamborghini factory driver that machine it's another lamborghini factory driver though out in front andrea calderelli by over a second over john hayward bobby foley running back in second then it's michael cooper as the field flows into the inner loop rapid start to this race but now it slows full course yellow displayed here at watkins glen international and the stranded number three windward racing car of miquel grenier appears to be the one that brought it out still stuck there in the cut out between turn five and turn nine and they'll have to intervene with the safety car here to get that car out of harm's way yakima el tua had made a move there on michael cooper but it was under yellow so he just gave that position back so there'll be no penalty for that one there's the debris i think this is what it may be for ryan because uh the windward racing machine i'd have to say that's in a safe zone there i mean it's hard to get over to that side of the road so maybe they're seeing something that's been reported on the racetrack maybe some debris some certainly able to cut down a tie very rapidly here [Music] yeah that uh could very well be the case if nothing else though this gives them a chance if it is even just for the debris to try and get that car out of that position maybe back to the pit lane this is the race leading car the pole sitter andrea calderelli john haywood at second and robbie foley in third made up three spots on that initial start calvin and we talked about it earlier this car has been great on starts and restarts they're about to get another one they are as now the uh service crew goes to work and trying to get this mobile again this windward racing amg mercedes a brilliant start he timed it perfectly waited for calderelli to go and then jump down the inside follow him down into turn one and basically wrestling that p2 position away from yan halen but somewhere between there and the s's something wouldn't miss with this race car that's really been on form of late got the update just now that it's a brake disc issue for the windward car and is stranded there on the racetrack has not completed a lap or under yellow at watkins glen andrea calderelli out in front [Music] today's coverage is brought to you in partnership with fnatic aws and crowdstrike [Music] that was a frantic start to this race calvin a lot of shuffling of positions there the first couple of laps and now everyone gets to collect themselves a little bit what do we learn through uh two high-speed tours of this track well we've certainly uh lost one of the most competitive cars here this weekend that windward racing amg mercedes has been very rapid and uh that's a shame because they had really moved up nicely bristol ward had moved up to within three points of the six uh drivers of venturini and corey lewis in the driver championship so that's gonna get hurt here with the car stranded that thing get it back they may have the opportunity to get a fix and get the car back out there you have to do 70 percent of the race distance here today to score points so that'll be their first target the other thing that we're noticing earlier is that six car aventarini the green lamborghini in the shot right now does not have the pace of the sister car once again so their struggles continue we saw that some yesterday and speaking of yesterday let's look at the highlights from race one that took place on saturday at watkins glenn this was the initial start it was that same capex car on pole sister car to the inside they were one two at least at the beginning but here comes the turner car much like we saw here drop back is a little bit early on but just a few corners into the first lap and michael dinan was already making moves to the inside down into turn one but then michael diane gets that horsepower up to play early and threads the needle there slotting himself in between the k-packs lamborghini and the mercedes didn't take long for dinan to threaten and challenge and overtake corey lewis in the green lamborghini taylor hagler was a star in that first stint she went flying through the field it was her co-driver though jacob abel who had to withstand the pressure late in the pro-am class win battle meanwhile up front it was all capex racing it was calderoli there even had time for a little off-course excursion but this was a battle at rage for about the last 30-40 minutes of this race jan halen one of the fastest drivers here this weekend got pushed back down the order a little bit but giacomo altoid just did not want to give it up the fight continued in pro wham you saw this a loose car slow on the track madison snow driving it at the time a gearbox issue ended their day prematurely no such poor fortune once again for capex and that pairing of pepper and caldorelli picking up yet another win meanwhile this fight came down to the final corner of the final lap but then even the drag race to the checkered flag yeah elbows were at big time in the lamborghini just squeaks the nose ahead at the line halen was frustrated impressive stuff though from the youngster giacomo out to a just 20 years old able to fend off the seasoned veteran john halen for the bulk of the first of his stint the second stint in the race one minute an hour and 20 minutes left here early going still in race two of the weekend at watkins glenn continuing under the safety car now and watkins go in but not for much longer andrea calderelli hits the loud pedal and accelerates away out of turn 11. john haywood though able to maintain that gap and keep an eye on the bmw as haywin pokes to the inside he looks at the inside look at michael cooper side by side without toy going down into turn one that was close they were stable there may have been contact between the lamborghini aventarini there and drew stavely body work flew i'm not sure if it's astun or lamborghini but her body work will have to wait and see got to jump by cooper that's the fourth position overall in second in pro-am a little scuffle there between venturini and stevens allowed to get a run going down the back stretch fully putting the pressure on haylin takes that inside lane so he can't go anywhere with it halen might have learned a thing or two about defense at this track from alto a and that battle we chronicled throughout the race yesterday he's able to fend off that hard charging bmw for the moment still keeping in touch with calderelli out in front but this has been the car on the move out away charging through this field he's up to fourth yeah he is and ryan dial is going with him started eighth we talked about earlier if he had five hundredths of a second in qualifying that removed him from p4 that was how tight the grid was here yesterday in qualifying now today started ninth so up five positions already cooper's made up a couple of spots as well here's capex racing the six car giovanni venturini under attack dial as mentioned he's got one place he wants to go and that's the front yes i got mixed up with the two dxdt machines cooper there is in the battle with altoid dial trying to make some moves here bentorini very much on the defense just can't get the car underneath him and feel comfortable with the coming together between stavely and fintorini earlier that allowed dealt to get by and now diel is on the offensive you can see the rear view mirror dangling in the wind off of that aston martin of stavely so that i think is a casualty of the contact right there at the beginning of this restart could certainly be a factor these cars have rear-view facing cameras but certainly if you get someone down to the inside let's take another look at this restart side by side here there's where the contact is between venturini and stavely you see bodywork flying from the lamborghini and that allows reindeer to get the running game at the same time he's starting to fall into the clutches of matt mcmurray on the initial start running out in front of the erasers edge acura that's how they finished but it was 1-2 with the front of pro-am yesterday racer's edge though in front of compass right now though those two cars much further down the order running sixth and seventh with mcmurray and abel behind the wheel of those respective cars not had the best start to this race he qualified on the front row lined up fourth with the flag here today down in ninth now and now in a fierce battle there with jacob abel the guy that he had to uh try and chase down yesterday for the class win now right behind him good news to see the zelus car back up and running had some issues with the gearbox during the race yesterday problems is on the call earlier today in the gt america race that they used the same chassis for and it will be madison snow giving way to jason harvard a little bit later on in the show there's this fight now putting the pressure on vintorini and as has been the case all weekend the pace of this six car from k-pacs just has not been able to match the sister car meanwhile mcmurray up the inside gets that position back from stavely yeah i think you want to make that happen in a hurry stably tries to come back at him on the run between turn nine and ten mcmurray recognized he wants to be in the top dog in terms of the accurate camp here this weekend probably frustrated that he said that spent about 30 minutes behind jacob abel yesterday couldn't make the move for the win it's that distinction at the moment best running of the accuracy but they're both further down in the order and i think we both would have expected going back to how much pace they displayed throughout the race yesterday big run here exit turn one that is flat up up these high speed s's through the back stretch you're gonna peak at about 160 miles an hour plus before you hit the binders hit the brakes for the inner loop about 100 minimum speed trying to thread the needle starting right here giovanni venturini italian lamborghini factory driver paired up with corey lewis the american certainly lamborghini blessed has done a lot of racing for the raging bull over the last couple of seasons and all kinds of different championships from endurance racing to single make super trofeo racing and he's the one member of this team that has basically raced at all the tracks on the calendar this year for three of the four out of capex it's a learning experience unless they've gone and tested ahead of time yeah and i think certainly the k-pacs team has tried to test at the majority of the races they haven't tested at sebring they're going to do the first day test day they're in preparation for the next rounds of the championship but certainly having corey lewis on board to kind of guide these vacuum divers to a new circus has been very helpful but that drive appearing at the number six very frustrating season to see the sister car have been so much success so many wins leading the championship comfortably yet they simply being admired in the pack they even put jordan pepper on board the six car at the test here a couple of weeks ago and he said yes and confirmed that there is something to miss with the handling on that car they've been through with the fine-tooth comb they've got lamborghini engineers here this weekend they can not discover what is wrong with that machine has to be so frustrating to know that there is something amiss but to be able to identify exactly what it is jacob abel here he and taylor hagler won in pro-am yesterday it's a ride-sharing deal throughout the season between abel and dakota dickerson who walked with taylor hadler at road america two weeks ago in one of the two races there but hagler's in for the full season and they've been great in recent weeks within the pro-am class that's helped taylor propel herself up the point standing she now is second in those standings she is and just really gaining in confidence at a brilliant opening stint as we see her there in set on the screen right now just chilling right now a long time before she's going to see any action here today but kind of settled in yesterday took a couple of laps to find her feet and then boy did she just go to the front in a hurry this impressive stuff we couldn't keep the cameras off of her and she made major progress through the field nearly raced her way up to the lead and then ultimately that was taken care of both in the pits and with jacob abel behind the wheel speaking of pit stops gt world challenge america features full service pit stops within a prescribed pit window right around the halfway mark of this race for driver change tire change and fuel and that has a huge effect how you execute in the pit lane can determine the outcome of one of these events andrea canderelli still leading but calvin john hayward is keeping him honest he certainly is and by doing that he just laid down the fastest laptop race at 145.13 just marginally quicker than calderelli but you can see called rally is not able to escape so jan halen would love to keep the heat on he's leading the pro-am classes of pro car out front right now up and over that curve pretty heavily as we watch jordan pepper's teammate and thomas planned the strategist there for capex watching on and last slap from hayward he once again set the fastest lap of the race this time the 145 flat had just about a tenth in hand over calderelli that's it that separates those two they're within one second of one another similar story for foley who's got alto a giving chase and it's an interesting mix here because we've got a pro car leading a pro-am car first and second pro car third pro am fourth but while we have these different classes they're all the same spec gt3 cars and with the pros in these cars here for the pro and lineups you can see the teams in the pro-am field they can execute with the best of them and the drivers are top-notch too yeah you got all of the studs in right now so on the pro-am lineups for race two which is today then we see fred pordad watching on his teammate jan helen giving chase to caldorelli you got the pro starting so that pit stop window opens between 40 and 50 minutes into this race but expect the majority of these cars to try and extend their run deeper into that window where the faster car driver in the car for as long as possible andrea calderelli by just about a second over john halen then it's robbie foley completing the podium as they run at watkins glenn [Music] today's coverage is brought to you in partnership with pirelli rebellion and total [Music] nice close look at the right motorsports porsche 911 gt3r belgian driver john halen who has extensive experience in everything from indy cars to sports car racing putting that to good work right now chasing down one of the fastest gt3 drivers alive at the moment andrea calderelli and making some inroads over the last couple of laps in fact the last two laps from haywin were within one 100th of a second of each other that's consistency and it's fast it is fast but calderol is exactly uh not a slouch either right so uh he's got pace but he can see that he's being kept honest here by that right racing porsche and immediately behind him and you got to feel for yen hail and he wants to try and gap out away as much as he can because then it's going to be in the hands of fred porthead going up against martin fuentes a multiple sro world challenger competitor and champion to fight after that prime victory potentially here this afternoon it wasn't the result they were looking for yesterday first finish off of the podium all season long for poor dad and halen but even still with the consistency they've put together over the course of the season talking about taylor hagler making inroads she is but it's a pretty big gulf to try and bridge as far as running down right motorsports in the point standings yeah we only have three rounds remaining at the checkered flag here this afternoon so two rounds at sebring does the single round part of the eight hour rttc eight our indianapolis so we're getting down to the wire here but certainly hagler and the race's age team are not going to give up that chase and so championship caliber team we've seen that in action over the past couple of seasons and a variety of different classes certainly trying to hit them into shelby black stock showed the quality of that team last year and this year it's a bit of a different philosophy bringing young drivers into gt3 racing for the first time as ryan dial heads to pit lane the report from the team is suspected splitter damage on that car do you see anything there cal i don't see it but if it has pulled down one of the stays maybe at high speed it's kind of bouncing up and down and purposing as we call it the air dynamics that could be a nightmare for ryan dial he comes to the pits and it's been that kind of a weekend unfortunately for the 63 car sister car has done well michael cooper and aaron vogel finished on the podium yesterday crew taking a look at the splitter it does seem a little bit loose yeah you should literally have to stand on that thing to get it to move that much so something has been weakened here so as the crew goes to work on that car the lead has swollen now up to one second andrea calderelli over john haywood then robbie foley and giacomo altoway [Music] andrea calderelli and capex racing continuing to lead john haywood giving chase gave up about two and a half tenths of a second on that last lap because calderelli responded with a fast lap in fact the fastest lap of the race thus far meanwhile in the pits ryan diego with some issues early it's uh splitter damage on that car and the crew tried to enact some repairs but he's going down the lap now yeah last lap across the line here new fast lap was for calderelli so he's extending that gap a little bit but not letting him get away running second overall and has that pro-am championship lead and the class lead right now in the race today he's just trying to set up his teammate trying to get that white lamborghini hurricane as much as he can his teammate fred poured out exactly right wow well the overall victory would be wonderful quite frankly when running his way to jordan pepper you expect the pace of that car to not diminish at all meanwhile in the pro-am class when don haywin gives the car over to fred poor dad we've seen fred's a good peddler but not sure he's quite got the pace of jordan and so it's all about positioning herself relative to the cars in class this car is part of the pro class bobby foley driving now michael dinan will take over but the car behind is the one that haywin needs to concern himself with trying to build that gap to make sure poor dad has the advantage over fuentes in the second half of this race a little puff of smoke there from robbie foley as he exited the carousel probably just got a little bit wide there's a curb there they've just brushed the bottom of the underside of the race car on the aerodynamics there so i don't see any issue since that time so full fuel load it's burning off slightly here as we get into this first into the it's race heavy obviously [Music] a lot of fuel on board to take them into the pit window that will burn off over the course of the run but of course by design so will the pirelli p zeros and somewhere in the middle of the stint likely is the sweet spot where you got the grip in the tires and the weight is starting to come down and we could see some fast lap times and gotta gotta say this has been awesome watching calderelli and haywood they've just been exchanging crowdstrike fastest laps of the race one after the other he has a huge lap there by jan halen a new fast lap 144 point caldwell he's just inside the 145 flat range so jen halen has pace but what he saw yesterday when he got in close proximity with alto a battle went all the way down to the wire literally he just started to lose the efficiency on the aerodynamics of the porsche and was very frustrated by that so i think he's got a catch called rally and uh pounce rather than just sit there in his wake race vision powered by aws corner speeds at the bus stop also known as the inner loop just went through there a moment ago 103.7 miles per hour for the porsche of hayward the lamborghini of caldorelli and the mercedes of michael cooper speaking of mercedes got the update on ryan dial the damage to that car they've sent him out of the pits i think he did a lap and came back in the report was that it was not something that could be fixed giving the report that it still did not feel very good and so now the question is do you just try and turn out the laps and get some points especially when you consider that david askew then is going to have to deal with that for the entirety of his stint when he climbs yeah and there's a rule in place as we look at michael dinan here watching the progress of his teammate robbie foley uh 70 is the amount of race distance you have to cover compared to the leader here to score points so they don't have a lot of time at play with they need to make a quick decision here for ryan yell and that 63 machinery to get back to the garage back to the paddock area see if you can do a fix or keep plodding around championship points now the hopes of dxdt racing rest on the pro-am car michael cooper and aaron vogel they're third in pro-am right now that's where they finished yesterday as well former class winners earlier in the season big win for that pairing back in vir [Music] three distinct tiers here in terms of lap times here today you got the two leaders running laps in the high 44 second range as coldwelli just takes the new fast lap away from halen by a couple of hundredths of a second then you've got fully in altoid running pace about half a second beyond that and then a further half second back as the rest of the gang including this man michael cooper currently running in fifth driving that mercedes amg gt3 evo and mercedes one of the brands associated with the global gt world challenge championship it's a points championship for manufacturers in three different sro series around the globe fanatec gt world challenge powered by aws america europe and australia these are the brands all involved in the championship so far and it's been a good year for lamborghini it's been a good year for mercedes amg as well as you will see here in a moment these are the brands participating in this point structure scoring points across multiple classes in all the different series those are the points as they stand as we close in on the final third of the season globally mercedes amg out in front of lamborghini at this stage in the year and this will help lamborghini's cause as capex racing continues to run up front courtesy of the factory driver andrea calderelli just over one hour remaining [Music] minutes down and that means we are closing in on about uh 10 minutes away 15 minutes away from the opening of the pit window and then we'll start to see some of the strategy play out we expect for the pro am lineups with the pros in the car right now that is the case by regulation they start the race for race two of the weekend that they'll go as deep as possible before turning it over to their less experienced co-drivers but the pro class with less of a gap between the two drivers has a lot more flexibility in what they can elect to do on the strategy this is a bit further down the order right here madison snow running in 10th overall seventh in pro-am and he's got the lone am car in the field today conrad gruenwald giving chase now we jump a little bit further up that's where we find jacob able right now who has made his way around drew stabler here on this lab cow yeah just showing great patience and poise here does not have a ton of gt3 experience jacob abel but yesterday he fended off matt mcmurray even though he's at a tender age of 23 a youngster has a ton of experience compared to jacob so it was a monster drive by jacob yesterday scoring the victory in the pro-am class along with taylor hagler of course and uh just really showing great discipline and um you know just not getting too feisty too racy realizes a long race compared to what he's used to with the uh road to indy and some of the single-seater racing that he's doing much more on a sprint format basis so this is a big learning curve for him to get adjusted to be inside a cockpit with the roof over your head and the longer duration of the races but he's adjusting very quickly and very nicely he's running the full indy pro 2000 schedule this year is jacob abel sits sixth in those points at the stage of the season and yesterday that was the first ever gt3 win for the graduate of the hpd gt3 academy big win for him second win of the season as well for his co-driver taylor hackler who was a winner the last time out at road america as well one hour remaining as we watch the fight towards the back of the top ten here at watkins glen international raceway jacob able around drew stavely that was the fight for seventh jacob abel there in the racer's edge car just made the pass of drew stavely that was actually for eighth in the overall running order for fifth in pro-am and i'm excited to see what taylor hadler can do when she gets in this race car when the pit window opens up she was awesome yesterday carving through the field she literally did that carved them up because uh as i said earlier she kind of took a while to get settled in but once that car came to her she just got so much confidence behind the wheel and just push that car forward as we now get another full course yellow so this is going to raise that big lead that calderelli and halen have built up over the rest of the pack right now so this is going to be frustrating because you mentioned earlier we're getting pretty close within literally nine minutes now of that pit stop window opening which will happen with uh 50 minutes to go in this race it's 10 minutes you have to work with a bit of debris there so maybe that's what they want to clean up that's from that contact down in term one with venturini a little bit earlier in this race on the restart what this also does then is it basically starts to race afresh just before the pit window it brings all of the cars together specifically the pro-am cars so it'll be up to the ams then to race amongst themselves to the finish and they'll all be clustered together this is where the debris came from like that little side fence there you see in the right uh the left right quarter panel there just kind of pulled that off and also dismantled drew stavisly's right side view mirror as well at the same time it should be a brief intervention then to fetch that debris just got word from reading racing vesco kozroff is struggling with the handling on the 91 machine so they're coming off a brilliant victory earlier today for his teammate jeff burton we really thought that would set them up nicely in terms of the setup information they would get for the race here today now we'll see how that plays out when jeff burton gets behind the wheel in just a little bit closing in on the pit window here in race two coverage is brought to you in partnership with acura ferrari and lamborghini [Music] another thing this safety car will do is bring robbie foley back up into the picture we've seen it a couple of times throughout the weekend many more times throughout the season restarts are a great chance for that bmw to flex its muscle and it helps the way that this track is laid out that first sector of the track once you get through turn one it's basically full throttle in a gt3 car until you get to the inner loop and he has he and michael dine and his co-driver made full use of that yesterday yeah we nicknamed them pac-man yesterday for the way they're gobbling up the competition is they climb the hill there it's not extreme it's not like out of order but certainly they have a bit of an edge there and that's how they achieve their lifetime in different ways completely different factors and certainly the bmw i mean this m6 is a little bit long in the tooth to be honest with you you've got the new m4 that is going to debut on us so a little bit later this season so uh it's very exciting times for bmw it's been a long time coming with the new m4 platform for their gt3 machinery um but certainly there is life in this car right now it's showing a lot of speed recently we've got great engineering on board now with jay o'connell from multimatic joining turner motorsports for these events so steering this car literally in the right direction very much so and again it was just remarkable to see what short work michael dinan made of his competition on these restarts [Music] much like all you can eat tacos when will turner shows up it's just not going to last very long is it a great analogy those boys like to party and celebrate and tacos is the way they deal with some big wins over the years we'll have one in the second race at road america there is will on the left team owner michael diamond the young up-and-comer college student at the university of pennsylvania still very new to motorsports i think we have to remind ourselves of that he had the big breakout year last year ran the full season of gt4 the year before that and i had a couple of starts the year before that but this is the first year in gt3 and i kind of wondered how big of a jump would that prove to be and tell you what he has looked ready for it all season he has he looked really racy he's used to winning he went 17 times last year across the two gt4 championships and two titles but uh he's not intimidated he's getting more and more comfortable he loves the team he loves the group got great co-driver and mentor and robbie foley they're going places capex also preparing for their driver changes looks like they might be imminent corey lewis getting his gloves on in that shot jordan pepper had the balaclava on but not yet the helmet shouldn't be too long once the safety car is lifted we should start thinking about pit stops closing in on halfway in race two of the weekend safety car should be just about done in fact lights are off so that signals we're going to have the restart it will be just ahead of the pit window opening calvin and then we get to see the strategy unfold yes effectively you're gonna have like a two lap sprint here before that opening occurs and typically we're seeing teams coming in in times past you do the overcut you try and stay out get that hot lap in on relatively hot tires despite the tire degradation and just really try and counter someone who comes in early and goes out on coal tires and struggles to get tire temperature up but since we introduced tyre warmers that's gone away and the other factor here this weekend is this is a high grip race track we're not seeing a lot of tied we saw those fast laps being traded continuously deep into this first stint here between the leaders so the pace is still there so that factors into the strategy call as well unfortunately we're down two mercedes at this point miquel berenie being shown us out after the brake disc issue on the opening lap ryan dial they took that car behind the wall the report was they would try to repair it but it's now being shown as out as well with still 53 minutes of racing left to go safety car accelerates away and andrea caldarelli will try it again headed towards the restart zone which is right at the apex of this turn turn 11 and caldarelli punches it he does he's got a pretty good run here as well he's close to foley as we get back to racing he got the jump on michael cooper on the last restart but i don't think it's gonna happen this time not with the horsepower of that bmw foley able to keep him at bay running third for turner out away fourth in the white land right he did the purple mercedes of michael cooper let's see if that bmw can show its horsepower climbing the hill through the s's and the run to the inner loop i don't think he's in striking distance we'll have to wait and see calderelli handle that weak start to perfection build enough of a gap he's not under threat same can't be said for cooper who has to fend off a challenge from giovanni venturini and matt mcmurray is right there in the picture too yeah he was looking to work for a way through there he had a run on venturini to the inner loop but he'd just fended him off there and jacob abel is right behind him once again a very close proximity on the racetrack everybody bunched up together once again following the safety car intervention pit lane will not be open this time around but it should the next time we'll see who breaks off the fight to come to pitt lane first and terrain though has his hands and mirrors full of the compass racing acura nsx gt3 evo matt mcmurray the youngster behind the wheel entering able to clear him to some degree with the pressure on cooper instead the variety of lines that this racetrack will give you because it's such high grip you can run different lines here on the approaches to some of the corners you can dive on down into the apex you can run a little bit wide and run the higher line through some of these bank corners just makes for great racing here we saw it throughout the race yesterday great battles all throughout the field especially in the first stands when we have the lesser experience drivers in the car we're about to have that here not this slap but the next lap the pit window will be open you must be in the pit lane to begin service somewhere between the 50 and 40 minute mark of this race or else attract the penalty as we said with the pro drivers starting this one they're gonna try and run into this stick so probably keep these cars out there a little bit longer even driver lineup that allows you a little bit more flexibility in your strategy here come he's got the run does he get to the frank adventuring this is going to be tight holding our breath as they go through the inner loop so close ventrini went out wide so we could swing in there with a little bit more entry speed just allowing matt mcmurray enough room to get up and over the curb and avoid contact with respect from those two that's a high stakes part of this race track and a little bit of contact can have big time consequences yeah you get tipped there you're going for a big big ride everyone's settling back in they realize this basically 10 minutes or less less to uh use these tires up with so they're going to be going hard right now pit window is open as you see on the screen for the pro-am class cars don't expect to see them in tour until towards the end of that window but i'm sure what we'll see out of the three remaining pro-class cars and this one here in the middle this green lamborghini is one of them [Music] will split this strategy here get venturini in get some fresh tires on that car see if they can get a bit more pace with corey lewis behind the wheel here he comes exactly as you called it looks like everybody else has stayed out so far capex though electing to split their two cars on two different sides of that strategy coin giovanni venturini after a spirited stint will give way to the american from nazareth pennsylvania corey lewis the one advantage you can have by pitting right now if there should be any kind of issue out on the racetrack any incident when we go yellow and the leaders are slowed that will gain you a little bit of time by pitting right now 71 seconds is the minimum pit lane delta you have to spend at least for yes at least that long in the pit lane from in out including the service 31 seconds of that is taken up just driving down the pit lane and you have the rest of it to do the driver change the refueling and the tire change and so sometimes you'll see the cars sitting still that means the service is done in the right amount of time and now they're just trying to time the exit to make sure they don't run afoul of that minimum pit lane delta capex usually one of those that nails this and you see the car sitting and waiting that tends to be a sign that indeed everything went according to plan they had a rough one yesterday remember their driver change was a little off they lost about 10 seconds that cost him a very critical track position today they are right on it 70.8 so you get a one-second joker as we call it could be underneath that minimum by up to one second once on a race weekend and uh capex team certainly didn't use it yesterday it was 10 seconds outside with that car to use that to full effect though today and we'll see if this decision now which also puts corey lewis out a little bit in clean air will be able to vault them forward turner now responding they're going to go ahead and call robbie forway to the pits and that's really a testimony to the faith they have in michael dynamite his pace the leader is in as well caldorelli could take apex election to split their two cars by the single lap i'm the leader to be out there and clean here a little bit longer lay down those fast lap times that he's been achieving with monotony here today it's been metronomic watching the lap times from calderelli john halen matching him seemingly lap after lap just within a tenth of a second of each other exchanging that fastest lap of the race but that's broken off for now as calderelli same can be said for turner and into the car hops the youngster designed it now being fastened into his seat by his coach and friend robbie foley these pirelli tyres coming straight out of the ovens at the time warming blankets to uh get them as close to operating temperatures you can possibly get it so the driver exiting pit lane is pretty much up to speed within a few corners beautiful blue skies here but the ambient temperatures are low still in the 60s here today at watkins glen looks like these two will leave in the same order at which they entered the pit lane how about the times calvin you can see it just two tenths outside the minimum for the turner motorsports car and about half a second inside but they have that joker to play with the leader so maximizing everything right now about a seven tenths of a second delta between the two and unique among road racing series north america tire warmers are permitted in gt world challenge america so that lets you push very hard right out of the gate and the normal disadvantage you might see after a pit stop for michael dinan relative to vintorini who now has one lap warmer tires it's uh it's not as big of a factor let's say to the same extent as ian lacy racing calls in drew stavely stably they're very slow getting to the pit box so you saw that karsarov had got a run on him got around despite some issues with that car so a nice run here for road and racing kind of rebounding some for some earlier issues here but out front jen halen continues to stay out as you would expect he may do another couple of laps here before he hits pit lane just trying to maximize his stint length there with his pace he's in clean air for the first time for the whole weekend in race conditions let's see what he can lay down how much rubber how much grip does he have left in his pirelli p zero as he gets towards the end what will be a 50 minute stint possibly might have been helped in that regard by that yellow that probably a couple yellows probably helped him save some of that tire and now he can push push push until the pit window closes he's got to sneak in right before there but as long as you're in the pit lane prior to the window closing he will not run afoul of the rules quick update on the ryan dial david askew carr the team has completed repairs on the splitter and they will send ryan dial back out david askew will also get in that car pretty soon as well they're way down the order but just trying to get to 70 race distance if it helped possible to try and score some points towards the championship also use this as a bit of a test session i'm sure to make sure that the car is fixed before they head out for the next test or certainly next race weekend at sebring the race is coming out it's thick and fast ryan right now every two weeks until we close the season so see bringing a couple of weeks then a week off and then we head to the indianapolis motor speedway where instead of a pair of 90-minute races it's one eight-hour race with season points paid at the three-hour mark but an extra driver drafted in and it sounds like a great grid of gt3 cars filled out by some gt-4 invitationals ready to go dxdt racing having one car with strife the other car running in podium contention that's this one michael cooper has done a nice job and he's about to turn it over to aaron vogel who finished on the podium along with michael yesterday yeah really pumped up that group about the podium finishers that seem to come in their way now just got report on the number 12 car we saw stably slow the pit lane some kind of manifold pressure issue with that car they're going to try and address it good timing in terms of needing to come in the pits anyway but it will surely be a long long pit stop to get that fixed meanwhile john haywood continues to circulate out in front giacomo altoid matt mcmurray jacob able madison snow conrad grunwald also still on the racetrack owing us a pit stop top six as they run have yet to pit just trying to bank some fast laps here i foul he pushed this i think there's enough time on the board again probably squeak another one out and still get in the pit lane with uh more than 40 minutes left on the clock how hard do they want to push this for right motor sports roll in the dice if anything happens on that last lap then you can run into trouble so let's see if he dives for pit lane or stays out looks like he's gonna go for another one i think that's what they feel like gives him the best chance there is the risk for instance if you were to spin you end up going past the 40-minute mark before you don't come in well tough luck you're gonna have to do a drive-through penalty but i think they've got a lot of faith in yon hayward he's been around the block a few times not only is he fast but he's got the experience to bring to the table and they bring him in in a lot of their long-distance racing they are perfectly happy putting the ball in his hands yeah and i think they have such a healthy championship lead there's no need to go conservative right now let's go to the race wins trying to extend this gap at the front you can see altoid staying out there as well so they're doing a similar thing he'll be turning it over to martin fuentes he's even got less time on the board to play with because he's a bit further back from yan halen right now ian lacy team working on that manifold pressure issue to the right of the screen compass racing working on the driver change michael dimeo who has been a revelation this season he will take over the controls for matt mcmurray after that opening stint see what he can do his time behind the wheel final lap though of the weekend here at watkins glen for john halen who very nearly put that car on the overall pole for this race just barely pipped at the last moment how about this new fastest lap of the race for yan halen on that last tour how about those pirelli p-0s this deep interest in 50 minutes on that set of ties and he runs the fastest lap of the race fantastic stuff racer's edge also keeping jacob abel out as long as possible but eyes now on the overall leader at least at this portion of the pit sequence plenty of time to play with here not really risking running a foul of that on this lap but obviously must come in this time john halen woes it up before he hits the timing line he's in the pit lane with plenty of time to spare and now right motorsports will go to work to change the tires and refuel then it's fred poor dad's job to bring it home really hard on that pit entry there you got to hit the pit entry you're allowed to run a little bit wide look like he did that as you're coming through that final corner to get to the pit lane itself so maximizing every hit thing here trying to execute to the top level fred poor dad stands by the pit wall ready to go two have been working together for a number of years john hayward does a lot of coaching for wright's single make porsche racing that's where fred comes from and they worked together so last year when fred won the am championship driving with max roots had that thing clinched nice and early so they ran a pro-am race weekend at circuit of the americas and jan haywan was the co-driver there a preview of things to come as it turned out then the three ran together at the indy eight hour here is the rangers edge crew and a cool story here the air jack being operated by the team's pr rep aaron charlton not just the prf but part of the overall crew is over the wall crew as well they dropped that car off the jacks and waiting to send it now they do again halen to fed poor dad 71.01 right on the number 71.8 for giacomo alto a to martin fuentes these teams are on the numbers right now jacob able to taylor hagler 70.45 that's the one second jugo don't think they used it yesterday should be in good shape great job great execution by all of these teams to be there window playing with that joker a little bit that's great pit work right there and look at this it's put the right car out in front fred poor dad leading overall with the south african ace jordan pepper trying to find a way by he's got to go for it there's whistles around the outside and fred grassley brings it up to speed not going to be a contest there in terms of the grip levels even though they come out the tire blankets they're not as warm and up to uh speed and in their sweet spot as much as a car that's been out on the racetrack for a lap or two so jordan pepper wisely just fighting his time here's another switch of possessions look at this altoge to martin fuentes by doing the overcut there he's got them the track position however michael diamond is in the groove fuentes is going to feel the heat right here but just like that battle between pepper and poor dad it's not a class fight it's pro in pro am same story here pro am car the lamborghini out in front pro car with dinan that's the bmw behind martin fuentes he's just got a look forward he's got to look for that right racing number 20 and try and chase him down [Music] and we got another swap of position that is vogel taking over for cooper around corey lewis corey lewis going to try and get that spot back because the pro cars are mixed up with the pro-am ranks pit stops complete eric watkins glenn with 37 and a half minutes remaining [Music] well as usual the pit stops have shuffled up the running order considerably aaron vogel with pressure coming up the inside pro-class car from capex racing able to make that spot up that would be corey lewis coming through to take the sixth overall position and that now puts lewis just that much closer runs fourth overall but second in pro vogel suddenly finds herself though under a great deal of pressure michael demayo is on yes he's got a big run he gets to the inside he's going to take that position away so nice job by michael demaio here getting in the groove quickly and taking advantage as aaron vogel gets up to speed here in her stand timing and scoring still showing that mcmurray behind the wheel but the driver change was complete so it is demayo in this car the number 77 for compass racing just made the pass there on vogel that moves uh dimeo up into seventh overall and now puts him in fourth and pro-am turns him loose to try and chase down the next car in the pro-am running order which would be taylor hagler in the racers edge car yesterday didn't we the 93 versus the 77 so could be some fireworks here for that podium michael could see taylor she's just a corner ahead right now so relatively close on the road but she's into the groove early doing a nice job here this weekend her confidence continues to build that's the gap racer's edge back to compass with the capex racing car splitting the two of them i feel like we might have a repeat of what we saw at the end of the race yesterday with compass trying to find a way by racer's edge in a battle of the accurate teams 35 minutes still on the clock jordan pepper and kpax have retaken the overall lead over fred poor dad [Music] so with 35 minutes left it's pepper from poor dad from dinan and martin fuentes runs in fourth so dinan was able to make [Music] let's see uh look at a replay here this was the move up the inside once again corey lewis on aaron vogel not for class position but for overall position aaron's doing a really nice job and however she just had to let these guys go they are in the groove they are having to uh have a bit more speed there at the critical place on the racetrack so in the space of half a lap she's lost a couple of spots but now she settles in trying to look for another podium run here this afternoon rory lewis taking over for giovanni venturini the two of them have one win on the season that was at circuit of the americas the strange circumstances there where they were chasing their sister car and jordan pepper thought he might have tyre losing pressure late in that race and rather than risk an accident that might take out both of the cars pulled to the side and let this one come through and has been unfortunately the lone bright spot in that intra-team battle we see a battle for second overall fred poor dad has that along with the pro-am class lead michael dinan chasing him down pretty rapidly here two and a half second gap last time across the line and now this time he is right with him poor dad in the porsche out of the pro-am class stein in the pro class driving the bmw slipping to the inside but it's not going to be a straightforward move or that gives him room but dinan didn't seem that willing to commit not wanting to put that car at risk when he's got a nice solid run second now overall and also second in class as we'll turner and robbie foley watch on yeah they'll be happy with that i'm sure they'd love to be a little bit closer to that number three car but uh another strong weekend for them coming off the win at road america runner-up finished yesterday in the same position here today so certainly not closing in on the championship leaders but certainly spreading themselves from the chasing pack so they're gapping themselves to the six-car driver pairing and also russell ward on the 33's obviously had a tough day and will not score points here today that's really disappointing i wanted to see what he and miquel grenier could do mikhail was so impressive back at vir where the two of them won one of the two races together easily could have won the boat just a small saffoo with pit service cost him dearly in the first race only several months ago now back in june [Music] is just quickly racking up the experience and it helps they've absorbed htp into the fold all the engineering strength that that entails lewis has chased down on the road third in class but more importantly you've got to look at that rear view facing camera and see michael dimeo on the march right now does he have the pace in the second of the accuracy out there right now in this little battle to uh get around taylor hagler and uh in the compass team coming to the lead accurate position it's been an interesting year for compass and mcmurray started the year driving alongside rodrigo sales and rodrigo has a huge program this year with a lot of racing going on in europe and scale back his program here stateside that's opened the door for michael dimeo and his pace coupled with i think it's safe to say a bit cleaner execution from the compass team in the last several rounds has seen an uptick in their performance they haven't wheel gun and wheelnut issues for a while which was really frustrating to them but they seem to have got on top of that sweet spot with this car uh they're really happy with the association and the support that they're getting from hbd it's a great fit i mean their workshop is just uh just down the road from where the hpv headquarters are over in california so they're all working well together and they see a bright future together as well had some support this weekend uh marion farmbach who's here working with the 93 scott he's also over there helping michael demaio and his teammate from last year in a gt3 championship run matt mcmurray gonna sort through some data so uh they're trying to provide as much support they can to all of their customer racing teams i'll say this i'm very impressed with taylor hagler she is keeping a very experienced lamborghini pilot corey lewis at bay lewis has the pace it would appear to be faster in clean air but there hasn't been an opening it's been impossible to make a move because angler has been inch perfect right there she takes that wider we'll talk about the different lines that you can approach some of these corners here at watkins glen she tends to turn a little bit wider with a bigger radius where some of the guys and drivers kind of dive into in kind of head to that apex as she runs a little bit wide there's put her out of sync for this final corner watch for both of these cars to get a run on her on the exit turn 11. and that's a just a slight little miscue that it might take but that said she gathered it up nicely and got a pretty good jump out of the final turn and it's actually lewis who looks to be on the back foot a little bit yeah it didn't seem like corey was able to time that correctly as we see uh matt mcmurray here watching the progress of his teammate michael demaio that was very um about you know what happens to the support he's giving him the guidance he's given him he said i'm getting a lot of support here this weekend while these cars fight it out bad news for drew stapley that car behind the wall likely out of the race and jeff burton has brought the reardon card to the pit lane as well so attrition starting to hit this field with less than 30 minutes remaining [Music] today's coverage is brought to you in partnership with acura ferrari and lamborghini [Music] just got confirmation from the riordan team the 91 is going behind the wall and it looks like the move was made corey lewis did finally find a way around taylor hackler and that opens up this fight between hackler and devel four-class position this is the final step on the pro-am podium calvin plenty of motivation for demo and he throws it into the inside yeah he may have watched taylor hagler there when corey lewis was kind of nibbling on the tail there how she just kind of leaves that door open a little bit on the entry to turn nine good point make it stick good respect between the two drivers here she's no easy picking she wants to fight hard here however it looks like michael may have a little bit more pace at this stage of the game he's in the slipstream now down the pit straight away starting to close in stalking his michael dimeo looking to the inside not close enough hacker late on the brakes and gets it bowed down and plenty of time now does dimeo get back to the power quick enough to get a run through the s's ryan eversley is also here working with these drivers on the 93 squad so he'll be on the radio now there's that chance there with that light wider line for dimeo to take that lunge again if you're coaching or do you tell her to change the line from what she's done all weekend long to help prevent that opportunity from arising again maybe somewhere between the two extremes would be the way to go just to make it not as inviting let's put it that way but you're right it's hard to change the racing line what you've been doing without compromising a lot of lap time until you get used to running that line is martin fuentes up ahead of this battle that's what corey lewis is chasing down now for fourth overall fuentes himself is three seconds behind fred poor dad first and second in pro-am here's third and fourth two acura nsx gt3 evos taylor hagler has a much bigger gap this time around let's see if she can keep it going back into that turn nine that's where demayo made the move the last time this time he likes to just follow her line through the corner and i'll take a run to the inside but really early on the power there using all of the road plus a little bit more final podium spot in pro-am up for grabs taylor hackler has it michael demaio wants it with 26 minutes remaining taylor hackler holding off the challenges from michael dimeo young american facing off against uh slightly older but not that much more so canadian let's take a look at a replay here because it was this move that put corey lewis ahead of hagler and put her into the firing line for the compass car yeah a little bit further into the lab just uh three corners later michael dimeo gets to the inside this is coming up into turn nine as they come off taylor just gets on the power a little bit earlier and allows him to maintain that position but certainly feeling the pressure right now just saw a message from race control the number 96 car that's turner motorsport a drive-through penalty handed down for a hit stop infraction is the second placed car overall second in pro they only had a 12-second gap back to the next pro car so they're going to lose that plus some 31 seconds is the time loss being on pit lane at 50 kilometers an hour we'll drop them considerably down the order and certainly out of contention for pro-class win barring any kind of misfortune for jordan pepper and the number three k-packs car during the break we got notification 91 car has gone behind the wall further clarification we believe that jeff burt may have clipped that exit [Music] that's what they're trying to uh repair quickly here but maybe too much damage if that is the case i'm amazed we haven't said that more this weekend that's the only time i think we've said for sure that it's happened it's like the montreal chicane for the formula what they call it the wall of shame or something well the the thought is that there have been so many champions that have hit that wall that it's actually something of a badge of honor to hit that wall of champions [Music] winner here at this track fuentes there up and over the curbing track onto this overall position this is not for a battling class i'll tell you what fred poor dad is doing a really nice job hanging on to that lead he leads fuentes by 3.7 seconds but pretty equal lap times here so it's not like martine is just erasing that gap quickly so he's got a dig deep half he's going to get this car this tr3 lamborghini up into that class win position hagler has dropped behind demayo now that happened here on this lap they were effectively side by side at the start finish line according to timing the scoring just one-tenth of a second between the two of them and now we see that lewis has gotten around fuentes and will take off in hot pursuit of fred poor dad that penalty to the turner bmw has now elevated the six car from capex up into second so as we've seen a number of times this year cal but even when things aren't going quite their way even when they've got this gremlin with the car that they cannot identify capex as a team has the execution to the point where they're able to a moment one two finishes even if the ultimate pace of this car here isn't quite up to par and it's not like it's an absolute disaster but when you're looking at guys with the caliber of corey lewis and giovanni venturini running lap times about a second off of the sister car that's a big delta i mean they should be within a tenth or two not that far back that's what tipped us off to start thinking hey there might be something amiss with the chassis it should not be that big of a gap between the drivers of their caliber certainly their resumes both race and giovanni speak for themselves 22 minutes 44 seconds and counting left in this race and look at that after making that pass demo has come storming through now we take a look at this replay this evidently should show us what the pit lane infraction might be see the tyre warmers on the tyre on the wall i think there's a minimum distance that those tyre blankets or ovens have to be away from the pit wall and where the service area is so i'm not sure if one of the mechanics was new and not fresh with that information but certainly that is a devastating blow to their stellar run here this weekend runner-up finish yesterday as we mentioned coming off a big win at road america and uh that's that's going to be disappointing for the whole group that might sound arbitrary on the surface but i suspect having that kind of heat near fuel would be a safety risk is that at the root of net regulation it could be it's just a lot more equipment i mean ultimately if you allow that to happen you're going to have a bunch more equipment laying around when there's a lot of servicing going on so i think it's a good rule to have that you have all of that warming equipment and stuff out of harm's way we see fred pordad continue to hold on to this class lead position lewis is closing in but he's not dragging fuentes along with him so this is good news for right motor sports in terms of bouncing back from their first run off the podium here yesterday to maybe grabbing a win here today halen was dynamite in this car in his opening stint loving the fact he finally had clean air she made reference to it during his stead calvin there just hasn't been much of that in race conditions here this weekend for john hayward because he spoke that's a big wiggle there for corey lewis at the exit of one but back to yon i mean he spent that whole stint yesterday trying to find a way around giacomo altoy and he never could quite find the solution to that problem he couldn't and um you know i think you got fred megan today he's found some nice clean air he's been able to run good clean lap times been very consistent i'm sure the team are talking him through giving him the gap back to fuentes which is what their target is today in terms of keeping him away from the tail of that porsche and on that last lap fred lana 148.5 versus 2148.6 so not much to choose between them but he's maintaining that gap and maintaining that lead most importantly it's an interesting dynamic between poor dad and fuentes and that's the battle that will develop here or will it i might have spoken too soon it might end up being poor dad and demayo the way that he's coming like a rocket ship catching up with martine but the point i was going to make is fuentes has much more gt3 experience than fred does but much less in the car he's in now he has not done much in lamborghini only one weekend the gt3 car for a lamborghini prior to this weekend where his core dad has a whole season and a half now under his belt racing the gt3 porsche de mayo is the man to look at right now he's got monster pace about a second quicker than both poured out and fuentes and he has enough time to get there see how poor dad handles this cory lewis catching up for second overall with just under 20 minutes left here at watkins glen [Music] today's coverage is brought to you in partnership with optima motul and skip barber [Music] [Music] corey lewis right behind and the number six car for capex racing flashing those headlights i think fred knows you're there corey well i think it's obligatory at this in this day and age well i think for the team that got made a decision here what do you want to advise fred poor dad to do give it up easily fight it you start fighting compromising your lap time that's gonna allow both fuentes and de mayo to catch you even quicker than they may possibly do so i pay to just ease off the gas give up maybe half a second let corey lewis take that position away from you and then really focus forward once again it's usually more of a case when we're talking about multiple classes with different specs of car but you do hear drivers say there's an art to being past oh for sure you want to do it in the right place otherwise you can lose a second or two very easily and this is decision time fred doesn't want to give it up to him fred's really strong at the breaking team you see a lot of people oh little wobble there he had to give it up then he is way out of the gas haven't had that little problem now he's got to regroup quickly here comes fuentes and demayo well that's the problem with fighting it because that little bobble cost him a ton of time you could see it visually right there martin fuentes now smelling blood in the water and i think demayo with 17 minutes left can start entertaining some thoughts about maybe even winning this race in class yeah you can but i tell you what marty puente is you give him a snippet of the win he's won races in bunches over the years so this might get him invigorated he'll dig a little bit deeper find a little bit more pace aboard that lamborghini but here comes michael demaio that compass racing machine is up he is flying if you know our team's personality the fact that he would even need motivation to be invigorated is a hard thing to even fathom he's a bundle of energy at all times he's got his target out in front but he's got pressure coming from behind mcmurray ducking to the inside now to the outside trying to sweep around fuentes acura versus lamborghini demayo they're taking the acura to the outside to the flank and made that move beautifully timed it to perfection had the confidence in the car to run around the outside he is now going to chase down the leader fred poured out just unbelievable this is only his third weekend racing a gt3 car sure he's a champion in this series in the past but that was in touring cars and it's been a little while he's been out of the racing game doesn't look like he skipped a beat though barring that one little spin at vir in his first race back other than that dimeo has been perfect i asked michael this weekend i said what else do you do outside of racing he said like train and i focus and i'm on the sim and i said so you don't work elsewhere except for his teammate to tell him he does have another job but his focus is on racing he's trying to grab this opportunity with both hands he feels his talent and his ability and his career has kind of slipped through the racing net a little bit giving a second win a second life here at compass racing he wants to take advantage of it now give carl thompson and jill beck credit when they needed to fill that seat they went through the rolodex and they've had a number of really good drivers race for them over the years able to call him up and plug him right in it has been plug and play michael dimeo now running second in pro-am and starting to put pressure on the class raider leader fred poor dad has his hands full michael demaio made that pass around martin fuentes to move into second in pro-am and in so doing now he finds himself right on the diffuser of the class leader fred bordad [Music] made on fuentes just one lap ago get the slipstream up this back stretch maybe getting a position a little bit further back and that porsche is not hanging around as good straightaway speed fred dies for the apex up and over the curb this is how it all happened first of all corey lewis had to clear poor dad and that bobble was costly because it erased this massive lead that poor dad had and uh then coming up the hill the next lap and was around the outside into the inner loop demayo around fuentes you can book it for p2 i don't know i don't know well they're looking pretty excited here amongst the compass racing group because demayo was right there now it's going to really dig deep gotta focus forward but watch that rear view camera at the same time see where michael demaio is going to attempt to move will he try and surprise him here into the brake zone to turn eight don't count out fuentes because while these two are exchanging body blows that slowed them both down and kept martine in the picture taylor hagler starting to enter the frame as well battle right now yes leading pro-am 14 minutes left don't go anywhere dimeo needs to pounce he can't afford to get stalled out here otherwise he's going to be looking backwards and forwards at the same time poor dad wide through turn 10 demo takes it around the outside and 2p1 michael demaio now poor dad is going to have to fend off the challenge both for martine fuentes and taylor hagler here comes taylor up the inside of martin she grabs p3 he timed that beautifully saw the scuffle up in front of her just well big speed through turn 11 and gets outside martin fuentes and takes the position away michael dimeo has checked out and part of the reason straight line speed overall top speeds brought to you by race vision powered by aws top two on that chart both accurate ears and one of them right here taylor hagler now driving the 93 that jacob abel set that bark in she'll need that top speed to find a way past poor dad flashing the lights i love it so young in her career but using all of the trade treat tricks and uh trade secrets here to try and distract the driver up in front martin fuentes now trying to regroup himself as well he's thinking about a class win and suddenly he finds himself down in fourth position taylor hagler for a long time her passion was horses works at an equestrian center this is horsepower here on display as a young driver looked up to catherine leg for an inspiration and catherine has had a lot of success driving an acura nsx over the years taylor hagler following in those footsteps and looking right at home stalking fred bordat is now the fight for second third and fourth as michael demaio has shuffled away from these three cars silvie has pulled out there slipping again it looks like the handling may be going away on him a little bit they're just being distracted with the cars around him jacob we're looking on there john marachi trying to see what taylor hagler can come up with here he's had a bunch of podiums here this year including a big win at road america big win yesterday with jacob able on the left one of the driver coaches for the gt3 academy embedded this weekend with racer's edge gets a big run huge run by fuentes he's able to maintain it i think he had to check up a little bit there getting too close at the entrance to the s's and now the momentum shifts away from fuentes into hagler she's in the slipstream that car is fast in a straight line is she close enough to challenge four day 311 flow here between these three pro-am competitors fighting out for the final podium positions should point out that while this fight continues nothing has changed at the overall front of the field jordan pepper by nearly 30 seconds over corey lewis then you get to demayo just up ahead of these three cars now poor dad hagler fuentes second third and fourth in pro-am and his fourth fifth and sixth overall behind this battle we have michael diamond on the recovery mode haven't paid that penalty coming down pit lane for the pit lane infraction there with the tyre blankets there he is you just see him in the background looming haggler just trying to settle in here the answer to this puzzle of getting around fred pordad without letting fuentes through at the same time see that wide entry point that he does there regularly for the entry point for turn nine [Music] fuentes isn't done yet either maybe putting some of his experience to work saving some tires saving the equipment for a late race charge just 10 minutes remaining at watkins glen after this only three races remaining in the championship and in pro-am it is the points leader right here in second in class and second in points third in class in this race taylor hackler right behind so if taylor has any aspirations of somehow overhauling fred poor daddy [Music] needs to be made certainly an additional incentive there to get the pass done meanwhile up front in the prime class see michael dimeo disappearing into the distance he had the pace he caught the group quickly showed some patience a couple of laps to figure out and now he's just taken off he's been running some great laps just about seven tenths of a second off of actually seven tenths of a second faster than pepper on that last lap i think pepper might have been humbled or was conserving somewhat but four tenths off of corey lewis so impressive pace from demayo now that he's out in front of this trio it's only the jordan pepper with a massive lead he'll just try and manage that in case there is full course yellow and a safety car intervention you want something to fight with at the end the battle remains hot and heavy second third and fourth in pro-am for now advantage goes to fred poor dad [Music] not much time left i'm sure taylor heckler has been going to school here trying to find the weakness in fred poor dad's game is there anything you've noticed calvin any in the armored she might be able to exploit now i think now and again we see a little bobble from fred like maybe he's fighting the car just that little bit but in terms of his line he doesn't really leave the door open he's strong into the brake zones what he doesn't do he doesn't overslow the car he rolls speed in so we've seen numerous times over the race weekends and also here this weekend this year that people make an attempt but he just rolls the speed in he's not afraid to go door handle to door handle so he's a tough competitor well the cat that's about to be thrown amongst the pigeons in this uh pro-am fight is michael dinan on the comeback drive in the turner car after serving the drive-through penalty fuentes has dropped off this battle poordak going defensive here hagler not close enough to go around the outside but i think dinan will catch this group and likely will have to try or is likely to try to go through it before it's all said and done and how he goes about it when it happens where it happens could have a major impact on this duel right here could certainly open up the door for uh taylor there if he uh does get to the inside of fred going down in one of these corners obviously he got a disposer first fuentes then taylor herself before he can get that done but his opportunity still was seven minutes on the board angler about as close as she's been in recent laps using that straight line speed pokes the nose to the inside not sure if it's real not sure if it's just trying to fill up the mirrors of fred poor dad she's doing everything she knows how to do to get that second spot away from the porsche driver is she fishy she will not follow other drivers even though they take that shallower entry to that turn she's kind of sticking to her guns there she may have worked with it in later over the course of the weekend in terms of identifying for her which is the fastest way around this racetrack but certainly there can be some miscommunication who drives their close behind thinking the door is wide open with that line that she takes second third and fourth in pro-am all in a line haggler taking a peek to the inside poor dad fincer off again with just six and a half minutes left a lot still up for grabs here in the final laps [Music] fred pordad runs second in pro and taylor hagler continuing to give chain smart team fuentes not far behind but here comes the turner bmw not in this class battle but about to get mixed up in it he's to the inside of fuentes here headed towards the inner loop should dispose of martine there yes he does now the real question is where does he tackle both taylor hagler and most importantly fred bordad does he open up the door when he tries to attack fred pordad for that overall position and allow taylor haggler an opportunity here to get this position away which would be for second in the pro-am class taylor has given fred no room to breathe for the last 25 minutes she's been all over him like a fat pigeon on a chip and he's not budged yet taylor hagler right behind but now she's got michael dinan to deal with here through the boot that pigeon on the chip normally cracks right certainly fred hasn't cracked to the pressure so let's see what happens as we're getting down to the wire laid on the brakes there into the heel with the boots watch this because michael dinan may not be expecting taylor to hang out white here on the entry what does he do with that follows it through she looks like she was a bit shallow at that time actually as i say that we've seen in the past others viewed that as an invitation but she didn't leave the door cracked quite as wide open didn't she [Music] just uh really consistent not being phased at all by the pressure and the situations that she's thrown in this year so great transition make the big step up this is going to be the key for michael diamond as taylor looks to the inside mike just needs to set this up get the big run through this dip here get that little bowl there at the apex for turn one and then you fly up through these s's and the cars in front of you just punch in a big hole in the air for you to really take advantage of and get that run pepper leading this race overall has backed off the pace considerably and the lead that was once nearly 30 seconds he's down under 20 over his teammate corey lewis not sure if there's any cause for concern there with just four minutes and 20 seconds left this is second and third in pro-am with the third place car in pro just behind and the fourth place pro-am car sweeping into the shot too diana would like to get this pass made if he can i was surprised there that robbie wasn't able to make hay there up through the esses to get that run he was just too far back so i'm not sure if his ties are going away a little bit late in the stint and not able to hold it wide open up through the essence i wouldn't imagine so but either way i thought that was going to be an easy one for him so he's got to be patient here for taylor she's got a really kind of focus forward she's got to try and get around fred pordad here in the last couple of laps but at the same time monitor what robbie foley's doing behind any real championship aspirations depend on making that pass you really can't afford to lose any more ground for taylor it's a long shot at best right in terms of her making enough points up with the rounds remaining but you never know it just takes a bad day a technical problem on the race car for the right motorsports team and they get a zero point score somewhere and suddenly you wish you'd got that position here today this is the south african jordan pepper who leads the last lap though was a one fifty three two compare that to lewis a one forty six nine photo finish maybe i don't know but uh i think he's just managing it um unless there's something seriously amiss or he's feeling something there you see his teammate in the backdrop here working his way around the repaired car of david askew they had that splitter damage early so they are well down the order right now just 32 laps complete compared to 45 for the leaders pro am leader michael dimeo going through the screen and behind them michael dinan has made the pass on taylor hagler so now he is right there in between the porsche and the chasing acura in the fight for second in that class i think we got about a lap and a half to go here looking at the clock so uh taylor needs to hustle she needs to be right with michael dynas should he open up the door and fred pulled out he looks to the inside there he sticks in she's got to go go go see if she can try and get on the power rule and get a run here she comes taylor hagler coming she saw the opportunity martin fuentes not far behind he's diving to the inside his tagler left the door open martin fuentes needs no second invitation they're side by side rubbing on each other through the toe of the boot making the run down to the heel that was awesome she recognized that just opened up her hands enough to give them both enough room martine now to the inside can she roll the cushion no veteran savvy from the former series champion multi-time champion martin fuentes able to get that pass he takes the final spot on the pro-am podium back here with just over 90 seconds left fantastic driving between the two of them so easy to lock horns there we've seen big incidents here this weekend even with cars locking together coming off that corner as they battle side by side so nice driving now does martine have anything for fred poor dad final lap the white flag has already flown for the overall leader jordan pepper his lead has plummeted down to just nine seconds over corey lewis that should still be safe at this rate only giving up five seconds a lap with one lap left so simple math says he's got bloody in hand at that rate so we focus here second place in pro-am fred porthead in the porsche martina fuentes runs third and the lamborghini and taylor hagler not done yet in the racers edge acura no she's not used to finishing off the podium she's been on quite the run so he's going to try and put the pressure on trying to regroup here has a big run can't do anything with it has the tuck back in will there be an opportunity with just half a lap to go poor dad very strong through the inner loop able to build the gap but it has come back down just like that the ebbs and flows of this race it's been fantastic to watch over the last 30 minutes it really has and hats off to fred porter had been under tremendous pressure here in this stint this afternoon but hanging tough didn't have anything for dimeo he's taking off on him for the win potentially here in class but hanging here tight see if he can get that runner-up position few corners to go but fuentes is right there with him now the coincidence is these rolls were reversed between these two cars just yesterday it was out today in the lamborghini defending from haywin in the porsche swap that around with the driver's swap here halen holds off fuentes for now hagler can't find a way by fuentes goes looking towards the inside as jordan pepper wins again with andrea caldarelli for capex racing fuentes in trouble he's now under attack from hagler he's gonna make her go the long way around in turn number ten holds her up for the moment that sets fred poor dad loose michael dimeo crosses the line he'll win in pro-am second place to poor dad now it's a drag race for third and it goes to martin fuentes wow what a battle what a race there may have been a touch there up in turn nine big wiggle by fuentes coming up almost gave to hagler the position back as the compass crew really celebrates there carl thompson worked really hard this weekend they were frustrated yesterday with that runner-up finish they go one better here today oh my goodness they saved the best for last what a frantic final couple of laps michael dimeo a well-earned win his second of the season in the pro-am ranks along with matt mcmurray and up front another capex racing 1-2 and it was close at the line one point nine seconds between the two not sure if they were posing for a photo if there was a genuine problem maybe who knows and maybe he was feeling some we talked about that racicota where he felt an issue with the handling thought it was maybe a tie going down and elected to uh just bail out of it and that day i gave up the track position and the win this porsche had some great pace today john halen showed that off early and often in his stint the crowd strike fastest lap to right motor sports and it's belgian driver ultimately another podium finish for haywin and poor dad a second after finishing off the podium for the very first time all season long just yesterday they'll extend their championship lead a little bit so that all counts as we're getting down to just three races to go doubleheader at sebring and just one race at indy and only firming up that championship lead was the fuentes pass on hagler hagler is the closest pursuer of the right pairing in pro amp points and she finished now two spots behind so that puts her even further back and puts us that much closer to crowning our pro-am champion as you take a look at the provisional results k-packs k-pac's compass one two three as far as the overall order goes and compass racing winning in pro-am should mention af corsa another win in the am class today running unopposed after problems yesterday for the m-class tr-3 lamborghini and again keeping their nose clean conrad gruenwald showed good pace in his stint and jc sata did the rest 10th overall yeah they swept the year right so it's a pretty amazing run that they're on and uh they seem to find some speed in that ferrari as well yeah of course a team they've been running really strong lap times conrad's doing a great job jc sata great qualifying position to start the race yesterday yeah it started i think eighth overall really remarkable great job by him and uh great job again by k packs to go one two we see a one-two finish but it wasn't as simple as that there's a lot of things that happened in between venturini you know when he jumped out of the car i'm not sure he's going to be expecting this result i'm not sure he will either we will hear from them though shortly jordan again he's looking at tires he was definitely slowing down for a reason there not just uh allow managing that gap he was feeling something and we've got robbie montanol helping us out post race interviews here today and hopefully robbie can get to the bottom of that particular mystery as the k-packs duo make sure they've got the right hats on they should know what they're doing by now this is yet another win for this car is that nine on the season let's hear from him with robbie montanola definitely thanks guys we're here with jordan and andrea jordan uh you you seem to slow down there towards the end uh was there anything happening with the car yeah i don't know something didn't feel right and we had a big enough lead so we just said take no risk manage the gap and yeah i think one more lap i probably wouldn't have won but yeah anyway so it's a great team effort uh double pole double win so a big shout out to all the boys lamborghini capex everyone awesome job by everyone and of course andrea for for doing the bit at the beginning yes andrea how do you guys take this momentum to sebring and clinch this championship yeah i mean definitely it was important to you know to go away here with the as much point possible so at the end of the day you know as jordan said it was it was a good team effort a double pole double win you know we have to keep our heads down and uh try to go to sebring and you know it's going to be a lot of point you know still available but uh uh we just need to focus on our thing thank you guys thanks sebring is one of the few tracks in north america andre no so um see what happens and that's a good point i can't wait to see what sebring has in store a classic track as there are so many of those here in north america and it seems like they're all on the schedule highlights of today's race this is the initial start it was calderelli who started that k-pack's car and he jumped out to a nice league but it was brought further back randy a great start there then suddenly going up through the s's he feels something to miss with that win when racing machine has to bail out of the throttle there's some contact between the sister k-packs car and true state for the unlacey racing aston martin now is giovanni venturini driving corey lewis had taken it over by this point in michael dimeo an incisive move up to the inside of taylor hagler for the class lead well she thwarted this effort but he got a little bit later in the race it's just great racing between the two acuras and really tight racing here this was an opportunistic move for martin fuentes to take the final spot on the pro-am podium at one point taylor was thinking about p2 and suddenly she finds herself down fd4 with just a couple of laps to run really good racing throughout the field but coming home despite the problems with yet another win jordan pepper andrea calderelli by 1.9 seconds over the sister car of corey lewis and giovanni venturini and michael dimeo holds on to win in pro-am and the number 77 car for compass racing alongside matt mcmurray and what a nice run of form they've been on they really have it's great to see michael dimeo get this second chance with his career take it with both hands two wins now in the limited schedule that he's run great performance by that whole group so that does it for us here at watkins going in the championship head south to sebring next time up we'll see you there [Music] well the race weekend has wrapped up at what a weekend it was here at watkins glen before we put a bow on it let's hear from the rest of our class winners with robbie definitely michael heck of a last stint there tell us walk us through how you got that move done to get up to first uh well we we came out of the pit stop a little bit behind but uh great job to the crew though everyone did amazing today and we needed some redemption from yesterday so that was great but i came out a little bit further back than i wanted to and i had to work around some other cars to get to where we wanted to be chasing down p1 and i just took a couple laps to see where our acura nsx was better than the porsche 911 and i just saw a gap and i went for it and i was just great everyone that i went by today it was just really respectful good driving so you know hats off to everyone for running a clean race all day awesome and matt i know it's always tough not being behind the wheel so what were you what was going through your mind as michael made his way through the pack up to first i was watching and thinking about the race yesterday where it was uh it was difficult to pass when you're close in pace and i could see when he caught up to hagler for a minute he was having a little bit of trouble getting a good exit out but he figured it out after a couple laps and made a good move and then moved on from there and built a nice big lead by the end of the race awesome congrats guys thank you thanks congratulations to them carl thompson jill beck everybody at compass they put a lot of work in they're a busy team long time uh canadian based team but made the move to california and did it at the right time just before everything shut down they were going to open up an auxiliary base out in near the la area and they had it ready to go basically when they really needed to be in the states and they've told me that's that's been a big help to them and they continue to grow it seems like big programs year after year yeah and i think they're loving their association with hpd they're loving the performance of the race car on the track and they're really getting their arms around it now so uh another great day for them and another strong run as well with good pace as you mentioned calvin for a of course robbie is with conrad and jc yeah definitely these guys have been on fire all year long in the amp category jc what's your favorite part of driving this ferrari gt3 car this season uh it's been a great learning experience it's uh it's a new car for me i've never driven one until this season so every race has been a learning upgrade and and i've seen a lot of improvements especially yesterday in the race it was pretty cool and so i'm looking forward to more of that and of course we have a phenomenal team where they of course and uh and a wonderful teammate here that that keeps talking to me in my ear all the time so between all that i think we'll see a great improvement by the end of the year and uh and have a fun season next year awesome and conrad you're one of the teams that have tested at sebring what are fans going to expect from this series coming there in a few weeks uh c brings an awesome track it's uh it's bumpy it's it's hold on it's fast uh so we're looking forward to it we've done four days of testing out there and hopefully it helps us out so i'm looking forward to see you bring in a couple weeks awesome congrats again guys jc conrad your am winners today for race two thank you thanks guys for ferrari ferrari indeed been a good run of forum for ferrari and gt racing as of late wins at class at le mans win overall at spa and uh continuing to dominate in in am here even when they do have the competition it's this team this driver pairing that is consistently trouble-free yeah you can only win right despite a relatively thin field in am they continue to win and uh that testing will be huge because sebring is its own animal so for some of these teams or drivers who may be going there for the very first time it'll be an eye-opener it'll be a teeth chatterer as you go over the bumps they're very different to what we experience here at walken's flame which is super smooth so doing four days of testing wow that is a big leg up on the competition no doubt about it so two grueling races at sebring i think any race of any distance at sebring is by its nature grueling because of of that track and and all the bumps the the surface that's been there since it was uh a bomber base a bomber training base back in the world war ii era and then we head to indianapolis for a race that will be grueling for different reasons a full eight hours the first three of which will pay points to wrap up this championship yeah massive field we're anticipating maybe 40 plus cars gt3 cars and gt4 mix between our championship and the global championship so it's going to be fun a lot of wild cars there in terms of drivers that you may have never heard of but by the end of the eight hours you'll certainly recognize how quick they are well you know jordan pepper almost had his north american coming out party at that race it didn't last all that long unfortunately he got hit by a gt4 car but i remember him on slicks in the rain in a bentley just flying despite the the difficult conditions and uh that i think to many was an introduction he had been great at bathurst in the past we've seen him if you'd followed gt racing you probably knew the name but that was if not a reminder that an introduction to his talent and it gave him the opportunity here obviously k-pacs were involved with the bentley operation before jordan was a bentley factory driver but when capex said we need to select our own driver they're supported by k by lamborghini on the um on the factory side they wanted jordan power but that was the guy who they hand selected to say he is our new guy he is the mantle that's gonna hold the torch here uh for capex racing moving forward and he has delivered he's a great passer he's very sensitive to the race car too he knew he had a problem with that race car a little dig deep find out what was wrong he didn't throw all away he recognized that just got to slow it down and get it to the checkered flag so big management there yeah just like we saw from him at coda earlier in the year we told that story same thing and he knew at that time no sense risking both cars let's let the other one through in that case today he had a big enough gap and he knew exactly what his gap was because it came down from 30 seconds to just over one that's all you need and he said one more lap i wouldn't have held him off so he was having to slow down that much and uh his last lap time was seven seconds slower than corey lewis so he had big dramas going on yes he did as the podiums commence here in victory lane at watkins glen you think about the people who have stood here for the podiums that preceded this one at this racetrack thinking about the different series that have raced here and some of the best of the best have sprayed that champagne winning at this race track and the thing that's been cool all year long is hearing from especially the capex drivers the ones that haven't done much racing in the states before getting their impressions of these north american tracks and just how much fun they're having with this new challenge yeah so many of them have been running on what we call old school racetrack i mean their high commitment but high consequences so that's what a real race car driver loves they don't want it to be easy they want the challenge this provides a high speed fast smooth you know just uh you make a mistake you could have a big one but that's what a race car driver wants and when you come out on top on a day like this it certainly means so much more and look at the smiles on the faces all around both am and pro-am sharing the podium together and a big day for points for john haywood and fred poor dad and their lead is borderline unassailable at this point and they've won a couple of races i know they'd like to have won more but it's been that sheer consistency it's almost like death by paper cut right they just keep coming at you these little little blows and it's enough to where you get down well amazingly yesterday was the first time they've been off the podium all year but they bounced back today with another strong run so you're right they're going to be tough to be if they continue to show up and just score points they they should be in great shape for a championship run and for fred poor dad it'll be second consecutive title coming off the ham win last year with max roo wish we got to see more out of windward today that uh car had the issue on the first lap we were told it was a brake disc issue we never saw that car again and so they left us with just three in the pro class for a while it looked like dinan and foley would play spoiler once again and split the two capex cars but miss q and pit lane cost them they end up third instead of second and they might have won this thing come to think of it yeah because they were ahead of lewis on the road and if peppered had that same issue and they hadn't had the penalty this would have been turner's race well jordan pepper may have been in a different situation where he couldn't afford to slow it down as much as he did and if he did have something dramatic going on could there have been a failure but either way yes that's a great point ryan uh by taking that penalty push them well down the order and took them out of the opportunity to maybe catch the three-car for the win i never thought about that until started going through the different permutations there and i did until that's uh that's going to be a better pill to swallow if dine and foley haven't already come to that conclusion i'm sure they will at some point and you'd never like to let them slip away they're so hard to get any win in motorsports and now this one but for a very minor miscue could have been a lot different they look pretty happy though maybe they haven't thought of it yet maybe when they have a sip and a beer tonight they'll think of it and be even more drowning of the sorrows do them all a favor and don't tell them all right don't let them know there's a lot of happy faces though there in the podium area great to have fans at the racetrack a lot of them walking around the paddock grid was pretty full for the fan walk prior to the race i know the series is doing everything it can to open its doors to to fans and give them that up close and personal experience and it sounds like there's a very good chance that something similar to what we saw up at elkhart lake with that driver parade from the track to the town it might be in store in downtown speedway i'm not sure it'll be the full grid but i think some of the eight hour cars might be there i think it's maybe tentatively thursday or friday and a great way to get up close and personal with some of the stars and cars of sro america and sro globally as that is part of the gt intercontinental gt challenge powered by pirelli that wraps up our race coverage here from watkins glenn thank you so much for joining us for kyle and robbie and amanda down in the pit lane calvin here in the booth i'm ryan marine so long for now [Music] [Music] so [Music] you
