hi i'm die clough with sister chicks quilting welcome to my channel i'd like to introduce you to someone this is my little chick and her name is sister i think that's appropriate oh she's a little calm now a minute ago she jumped out of her box and was running around on the floor but um you'll see her occasionally i'll uh i'll give weekly updates about sister and uh you guys can follow her along if you like so let's talk sewing machines because that's really the heart of any quilter's business isn't it i quilt with a juki and you know i've got a juki serger back there ladies i am just a jukey girl what can i say i've actually had a juki surger since i was married in 1976 and it finally just gave up the ghost the repairman said stop stop bringing it back i said okay so he sold me a new one but uh i um this is the dx7 series i just can't tell you um how wonderful this machine is i've sewn on seven different machines and i'm they shall remain nameless but this is the most powerful and the most gentle it is so exciting to see how it just grabs the fabric and pulls it right through the feed dog like just so gently and just takes care of it and it does the best stitches and speaking of stitches can you believe all of these stitches i think there's over 200 that's more than i will ever use you know i do long arm quilting and so i have a binding service and a lot of clients like their quilts bound and this handles them beautifully and that's what's important it comes with a nice big table let's see take it off with one hand there but this is a really nice extension table i just say let's close the book and go with the jukey there's another way and it just happens to be so convenient that my jukie dealer is right here in my own hometown and is my gamel dealer my gamel statler dealer so it's pretty awesome i still have the old wooden closet doors i haven't painted them yet but i'm going to and when i finally get them painted we'll have a party and a hip hip hooray for getting them painted white for now let me show you what's behind the wooden doors lots of fabric storage i have in these bins my fat quarters some of them are sorted by the fact that they're polka dots most of them are sorted by color and i've just got them marked they're hard to see hard to get at and i'm eventually going to have them in fabric bins on my shelves which i'll show you next but for now this is what i have and uh over here i have strips so i've got bins of two and a half inch scrap strips that one you can't see um my i've got a witch's hat there i can't get rid of my witch's hat i don't know why and uh anyway for instance i've got low volume strips i have color strips in my fabric bin drawers i have notions quilt kits quilt kits quilt kits quilt kits well let me show you a quilt kit so this is one that i'm actually going to be making a video about we're going to make a zipper quilt that is going to be something in the future to look forward to and this is the binding isn't that just the cutest binding in the world who doesn't love a narwhal and yes narwhals are real if you didn't know okay well this is almost my favorite it's not my favorite but i'm so excited about it let me show it to you um i have this board that's about nine feet long and i've covered it with batting and fabric and oh what's that hanging from it hmm anyway um the product is called homa sote it's a board you can get a home depot and it's like a push pin board now i'm using straight pins because that's what i have and it's they go in just fine but you know t-pins would be better but my husband just screwed it into the studs with these washer screws and it's pretty um invisible you don't really see it but this is what it's going to do it's going to hold here let me show you i just pin my quilt up so this is my design wall quilt i'm so excited i've never had a design wall i've had a design bed but never a design wall i got this really cute fabric for the border because i wanted to be bright and cheerful when i saw the chickens i had to do it just had to do it and so i quilted it in chicken wire can you see the quilting on there i don't know if you can or not but what i used for the product is the warm company warm and bright i think that's what it's called but i can teach you how to do it if you'd like to know it's two layers of fabric it's kind of a boring picture i know so i have 108 cloth behind it just white and then i have this in front so i can put anything that i want on my design wall and i made this one about 75 by 75 it's pretty big it's portable i can take it with me and i don't always have to have it up i can show quilts or other things so pretty excited about this this is the thing i'm most excited about in my entire sewing room it gives me so much storage and you know what it's like crafting and sewing you just need places for supplies but um this is a calyx from ikea and it has four uh bins on each row or four sections and we bought the drawer inserts they were it's 24 for um two drawers and i don't know i kind of like a drawer i wanted to get really cute storage bins for the bottom and i they were all sold out it was so crazy there i couldn't believe it but this is what i ended up getting it's what they had and these are very heavy duty pvc plastic and they're solid on all the sides i just love them i'm so glad i got them now this of course as you can see is my selvages because i do save selvages i want to make a selvage quilt this is a lot of pin cushion junk and some other things but this bin is where i keep all of my serger thread storage which is you know i'm just not a girl to put thread out i feel like it just needs to be protected besides that i have such a small place i couldn't i don't have a place to put it out but this is my husband's genius idea because i told him i needed to make it tall i need to make it tall for me so he made he and my brother made a foot out of melamine product that looks almost just like it and they raised the calyx up at least four inches so here is i don't know if you can see this or not but me standing next to it and so you can see it's the perfect counter height and it's got this awesome top on it now this just isn't any wood or press board under here on this ironing table it is actually wood that is waterproof uh it was kind of expensive but we bought one inch thickness to because it was less money and we put two together to make the ironing table top this thick but this is what i want to show you it's 20 inches deep and the calyx is nowhere near 20 inches can you see that it hangs over a good six inches on one side and two on the other side so i have this dimension from here to here is like 21 and a quarter inches i'm so happy with this space i just love it i do a lot of ironing on my wool pressing mat if you don't have a wool pressing that you should be getting one because it is a game changer in the quilting world i'm telling you this is another game changer that i am just so excited about it's a little panasonic steam iron and it's cordless so it sits on this base and this comes off like so it has a point on both ends and it steams the steam is wonderful on it and heats it heats up very nicely but oh i just am so thrilled over having a cordless iron oh my gosh so this little station here is my all-time favorite piece in the in my sewing room one other thing i forgot to mention there's storage behind it so sometimes you just want a cutting mat more than a little cutting mat you can put it on this table but look at this i've got my great big cutting mat stored back here and if i want to take my wool pressing mat off i just slip it down on the other side in the sewing business we have a lot of things right and shelves are paramount and i got these again they're ikea shelves but i just have such a handy husband and brother and they screwed them together they leveled them together and they're mounted to the wall these are like built-ins they are so solid i've got bolts of fabric stored down below but i think my favorite storage on all of this well all of it's my favorite but my favorite fabric on here is my little shrine to allison glass i just love her so much and notice i have my fabric looks like it's wrapped on little cards i'll show you how to do that later on these are just folded fat quarters and some more allison glass i do actually sew with allison glass and i do have some projects for this for a quilt i can't wait to share it with you but not right now um and another chick this is my little chick watering can i think i thought it was cute i have never had this much space in my life to sew with so i'm super duper super duper excited about this space but trust me i'm sure i can fill it up these top four shelves are the four shelves that i'm going to have my fat quarter fabric baskets on and i will sew them by color and when i do them i'll make a video showing you how to do that and then over behind the door i have my ruler storage um i did pick this up at ikea it's pvc and as i recall it was like ten dollars um the hooks you get a bag of five hooks for a couple of bucks i don't have enough ruler storage so next time we drive by the ikea we're going to get another one and put it below and then i'll also get a second one and mount it in my garage but it's really a great idea to keep my rulers up off of a tabletop or whatever and a great use of this space behind my door which will eventually get painted like my closet doors show you where the magic happens you know in a long arm quilter and people ship their quilts to me from all over the country and i have a small house so i work in my garage well let me take you in and show you um i don't have a lot of space to hang things up but i do have my banner which i take to quilt shows this is my gamel statler and i just want to show you she's on a 12 foot table i just took this quilt off so i carry cuddle backing which is some people call minky and i carry batting i have hobbs brand batting it's some of it's under my machine there's two rolls i have wool i have 100 cotton i have black and this is kind of a little workstation that i have set up all of my job orders in vendor invoices thread orders things like that are all kept in these files this is my bobbin winding station with all of my bobbins and my shipping station um so this is the computer for olive um these are the quilts that i have um currently that i need to go through and quilts so much fun to load a quilt and then transform it from a flimsy hanging on a hanger to something like this thanks for coming on the tour of my shop and my quilting studio today sister and i really appreciate it if you like what you see please subscribe below and tell your friends about my channel next week i'm going to be making a darling gingham quilt using this fabric from ruby star society darlings line it's uh got these cute little strawberries on it it's gonna be a great quilt gingham buffalo plaid and i'll have a pattern linked on my website see you next week
